- Axel -
Protect The Boss xxxx♢ xxxxRequiem Cityxxxx ♢ xxxxCompleted xxxx

Well that was unexpected.

The moment the princess went, well, somewhat feral, Axel had to hold himself back from laughing. What a quest indeed. The blonde had expected something boring out of something that literally spells "escort a princess to an arranged marriage", yet if she was to be this fiesty of a woman, then he'll be damned. Upon Bobbi's cue, Axel gave her a little nod, before going after the woman.

Down the hall, off the stairs, Jasmine was not much of a pack, yet somehow her little legs proved more a challenge than he expected. The right thing would to have caught her by the wrist, like any cliche scenes that would have happened in a story otherwise. However, Axel was not down to any of those things. He snatched her by the hair, her ornament tumbling down and upon the carpeted floor.

"Let me go, you- maniac!" she screeched, tossing her hand around. That was until he snapped his fingers. A noise erupted through the room, a frequency unheard by the normal. Yet it would cause dogs and animals of sort to yelp in pain, and surely enough, Jasmine stopped. Her eyes became blank, and as he let her go, she tumbled upon the floor, her hands to her ears, her eyes widened yet unmoving. Her lips moved, muttering incomprehensible words, growing louder and louder. And when she let go of her hands... red stained her fingers.

Axel knelt in front of her, smiling.

"I guess you can't hear me, but I hope you can read my mouth, since-" he shrugged. "You'd have to be used to that sooner or later. Now," he took her hand, bringing it to his lips. "It'd mean a lot to you, and perhaps your father, if you'd follow along."

Surely she couldn't read lips from the get go. Surely she did not understand a thing he said. But the message was clear. Comply, or die. And it seemed like Jasmine did not want to take her chances. She was quiet the rest of the way, like a beautiful puppet, and so the young maiden met her less than fairy tale ending.

If he were to characterize the group he was with in one word, it would be awkward. Upon first glance, they had enough in common - relatively strong magisters in training who were all in some way affiliated with Syndicate, whether it was past or present. However, even a stranger sitting in the carriage would be able to feel the clear tension. At first, it had seemed like a sort of good idea - the mission was interesting and he thought it'd be fun to go with Quinn and Ophelia because he liked them both, but he'd failed to factor in their relationship to each other, and then Axel was suddenly coming along too? The whole thing quickly went from fun to farfetched. Nonetheless, they had all signed up and it would look bad for any of them to back out, so here they were. In this little carriage. On a journey that he suspected felt much longer than it really was. When it finally came to a stop, Malachai let out a sigh of relief he hadn't realized he'd even been holding in. At the mention of talking to locals, a smile broke out on his face. That was the job for him. Ophelia piped up and offered her own services after making a point that Kai would've called paranoid, but she said it in such an upbeat way that he didn't really know what to make of it.

"I'll tag along, if you don't mind, Oph," he told the blonde, "I think we're probably the best suited when it comes to reconnaissance, wouldn't you say?" He flashed a friendly smile at her, keeping an upbeat, positive tone. He knew very well that Quinn wasn't particularly friendly and Axel... well, even if he could have a normal conversation, Kai and Ophelia's animas were better used for this than his. Malachai exited first, being closest to the door, and was followed by Axel. Though he liked to keep everyone on friendly terms, it was relatively clear that he and Axel weren't good friends. Kai just didn't want to deal with that conversation; things were easier this way. However, it did irk him when Axel offered Quinn his hand. Though he doubted anyone here was aware of their relationship - the word 'relationship,' of course, was being used as loosely as possible - the action still bothered him. However, Quinn wasn't the mademoiselle type. She barely seemed to fall for Kai's charms, so he knew full well she wouldn't be relishing this sort of treatment. He silently hoped that she would slap his hand away or something, just for the entertainment value. Not just because it was Axel, but also because he liked to think that she liked him best of the whole lot. If they had to spend the night in town, maybe he could arrange to share a room with her. Or, at the very least, he was sure he could sneak in without raising suspicion.

When he exited the carriage, the scene before him was a pleasant one. Locals milling about, attending to their own business. Though they did get a passing glance or two, they weren't long stares. Miasto was a coastal town, so visitors weren't an uncommon sight. His eyes scanned the crowd for an easy victim. The young women were usually easiest to manipulate and, in addition to that, the chattiest. Though they usually knew a lot and had the latest gossip, their drawback was that the more serious matters were of less interest to them. Well, for a warm up, they'd be fine, Kai figured. He took a few steps and spotted a young redhead, walking along with a basket, probably on her way to the store. "Excuse me, miss?" he called out, drawing her attention. He strolled up with a smile and a confident look in his eye. As soon as his eyes locked with hers, he began activating his anima. He willed her to be happy to talk to him and, because she was already predisposed to do so, it took little energy.

"Yes?" the redhead answered, turning to face him.

"I've heard that there was a ship washed up on the bay, do you happen to know anything about it?" Kai asked, speaking casually and curiously. At the mention of a ship, he sensed her guard going up, so he reinforced his influence, encouraging her to speak.

"A ship? Oh... I'm not so sure," she stood, trying to remember what she had heard. "I think the men at the fish market might have been talking about it? They talk to a lot of sailors. Or you could try the tavern, the people there always have stories about shipwrecks."

Kai nodded in response. It was a start, though he was a little disappointed she didn't know directly. He pushed his anima much harder when he said his next sentence, each word almost dripping with it. "Thank you, beautiful. Please don't mention this conversation to anyone."

As if in a daze, the young woman nodded and smiled at him. "Of course!" Then, she walked off, thinking to herself that she should forget about the content of their conversation, though her friends would love to hear about the handsome stranger she'd met while out.

The Treasure
"If it’s a trap, then we make the people responsible pay for wasting our time." Quinn said brusquely without turning her head to look Ophelia dead on. So it begins, she thought as the carriage hitched, rumbling along.

When at last the carriage did come to a stop, Quinn was presented with another challenge in the form of Axel. She stood on the lip of the carriage, her eyes on the outstretched hand. After the briefest hesitation, Quinn bypassed the hand – and the boy it was attached to – stepping down to join the others. The hairs pricked along the back of her neck, but otherwise her nerves were kept in check.

Kai and Ophelia would gather intelligence. They were lucky – Quinn couldn’t believe she was thinking this – to have them both along. Even though it pained her, Quinn couldn’t deny that they were both the best at this sort of thing.

When they were finished, or as finished as they’d get because Quinn couldn’t take another moment idly standing around with him, Quinn approached the two charmers and asked, ”Where?”

Ophelia Sinclair
How nice it must be to have an anima to garner someone's immediate liking---though Kai's abilities had room to envy, it was a skill Ophelia was happy to simply observe from a distance. After all, she would never understand things like love and the idea of sleeping around, no matter the gender or appearance, was a dull thought and act she wanted no part in playing. If only her abilities extended to memory cognition... How much easier would her life be then!

With an amused smile, she tugged on Kai's sleeve to get his attention. "Let's return and split up with the group so it'll be two at the taverns and two at the docks," she said sweetly, "The day is too nice to stay indoors today so I'll check the bay for sailors~" Returning to Axel and Quinn, whom she was surprised the latter was remaining idle while Kai and her did some info gathering, she proposed her suggestions to divide and search.

Regardless of who went along with her, Ophelia would have a swell time. Her "companions" were rather interesting people after all.

--

Heading out to the docks as planned, her hands folded behind her back as she hummed softly to herself, Ophelia's eyes landed on some sailors who were untangling a fishing net, most likely on their way out to fish. Her carefree grin grew as the insignia in her eye glowed minutely brighter.

Bingo.

Making eye contact with one of them, her letter knife tucked safely in her pocket against her skin, she engaged in a short silent staring competition. When the other two sailors met her eye, she too, looked back with an innocently curious grin. The spell between them was woven and before Ophelia approached them, she checked her hair and straightened her dress before twirling to face her partner (whoever it was that chose to follow her).

"How do I look?" she asked before walking over to the men, but not before gesturing for her companion to remain there while she did the talking.

"Brother!" Ophelia waved as she skipped over to the least ugliest man out of the three. Even then, they looked as different as night and day. If it weren't for her anima, the three would've regarded her as daft.

"Stella?" Blinked the man who held contact with her the longest. He looked confused for a split second before his expression twisted into concern. "What are you doing here? Don't you know it's dangerous at the bad? Especially with..." His voice lowered as he looked around for outsiders. "...the shipwreck," he leaned down to whisper. "Mother will be angry if she found out you're here."

"Aw, I know but I just really want to see the ship! Even if it's from afar," Ophelia pouted, glancing at the other two sailors who fortunately recognized Ophelia as their friend's younger sister.

"It's too dangerous for you lass. The last people who went down to inspect it never came out. It's better if it remains hidden... so no more lives can be at stake," the second sailor said gravely.

"Tch, but there's been a lot of rats around lately. A bunch of tourists have been coming to Miastro to look for the ship. They reckon there's treasure in there," the third sailor muttered in a curse. "The only treasure they'd be findin is the highway to an early grave."

Ophelia rose her brows slightly at that. "Is that so?" She smiled softly, "Can I know where it is at least? So I know where not to go near? I promise I won't go there myself," Ophelia coaxed. A pretty face made it easy to convince three hard-headed men.

"I don't think you'll be able to go near it even if you tried sis," the sailor, Claude said with a smile, "But I still don't want you near that area. You see the cliffs over there?" He pointed at the distance, "There's a rift there between the rocks. The ship wedged itself in there somehow but fortunately it's almost inaccessible by foot. You know the secret passage way we always use to head down to the cove? That's the only clear path to the ship right now so avoid going to the cove and the bay okay?"

Ophelia nodded, internally humming in delight at how easy they were. "Okay, brother~ Just a few more questions..."

.
.
.

When all the information was done and gathered, Ophelia waved the men good bye and wished them good luck on their fishing trip. It would be the last time they know her as Stella, unfortunately. Ophelia had to keep her track record relatively clean and taking away the memories she placed in was as easy as putting them in.

Returning back to her partner who patiently waited for her, Ophelia smiled. "Let's go have sweets and tea once all this is over."

The Treasure xxxx♢ xxxxMiasto xxxx ♢ xxxxIn progress xxxx

Axel could only scoff when the girl has made her way past him. It was not as though he had expected any different. If Quinn had took his hand, he would be surprised.

From the distance, the blonde male watched as the two made their way. It was what made sense, after all. Their powers were ones most useful for this scenario. Axel? He'd settle for torture, but isn't that just boring. Maybe one of these days he'd learn to appreciate the beauty behind manual work.

A moment, he found himself stealing a glance towards the Syndicate girl. Of course she wouldn't expect idek chats, not with anyone and not with him especially. Moments ticked by, and the other half of the company finally came. He snickered to himself as he watched her walk away from him, and he could only shrug and follow her from behind.

"Any luck?" He asked, though his eyes were mostly aimed at the blonde girl. Axel smiled at her. "We could always resort to...plan B."

After sending the girl on her way, Kai looked to Ophelia, finding it almost cute how the girl had tugged at his sleeve. He nodded in agreement, figuring it was their best plan. He gave a short laugh at her decision. "Whatever you want, Oph." When they arrived back with the group, Quinn didn't waste any time with niceties or pleasant language, per usual. At first, this brusque manner had bothered Kai, but he'd grown used to it by now. He raised an eyebrow at Axel's suggestion, not quite sure he understood what the other boy meant by a Plan B, but also feeling as though he didn't want to find out. The brunette was suddenly glad that they'd found information so that it wouldn't come to that.

"Our best bets are the locals' favorite tavern and the bay by the fish market," he told his other two companions. "Oph thinks we should split up and I agree. We should probably pair up by abilities - one of us with more purely arcane abilities with one of the two of you with more... fight oriented powers. It'll balance out and keep us ready for anything that comes up." As he spoke, he made brief eye contact with Quinn. Out of the two, she was clearly his first pick. If he had to go with Axel it would be weird, to say the least. He left the choice to the two of them. "Ophelia wants the docks, so I'm taking the tavern. Who's with me?" he asked, looking between the two of them.

With his partner, Kai quickly set off towards the tavern. He tried to give off the illusion that he was as comfortable walking through the city as a local would be. He kept a friendly aura around him by using his anima, willing anyone who got within a couple feet of him to him to feel as though he wasn't a threat, just another person milling about minding his own business. He hadn't been to Miasto for a long time, but finding a tavern was never a difficult thing. All you had to do was follow the smell of alcoholism and the chatter of locals. Soon enough, he happened upon the large cobblestone building with a sign that named it Miasto's Meadery. He opened the wooden door and entered first, bracing himself for the reaction of those inside. Immediately, he felt push back and resistance on his anima as people glanced over and realized they didn't recognize him. Nonetheless, they continued their conversations, only occasionally glancing over tat the unfamiliar duo. Malachai strolled up to the bar and grinned at the barmaid.

"Two of your best local meads for my friend and I," he ordered, knowing that they'd stand out if they didn't have a drink and, on top of that, that the staff wouldn't say a word to them if they didn't pay for something.

"Coming right up," said the blonde barmaid, taking his coin.

The Treasure
Quinn stood aside while Kai worked his magic - quite literally, she might add - on everyone he met. Even as they walked she could feel it on her, or maybe she was imagining things. The way she looked at it, she'd taken the path of least resistance. There was no chance she'd elect to go anywhere with Ophelia on their own, and her and Axel would not have made an effective team for a mission like this. From what she knew of his skillset, he was more like her than he was like Ophelia or Kai, for that matter.

Kai lead them to a tavern, walking up to the bar like he owned the place, or like he was some kind of regular. Quinn thought it was remarkable the ease with which Kai slid into these little deceptions. He was like Ophelia in that regard. The thought turned Quinn's blood cold. She shoved it away, diverting all of her mental energy toward not sticking out. She was the liability here in this situation. The best thing she could do was stay quiet and keep a low profile.

"Here you go!" Said the barmaid, sliding two mugs across the counter. Quinn slid awkwardly onto a stool and accepted the mug, enjoying the feel of the cool glass against her palms.

"Thank you." She said to the barkeep, side-eyeing Kai as a way of extending her thanks to him as well. He did pay after all. Eventually, through a mixture of flirting and subtle manipulation, Kai would have this poor, pretty thing wrapped around his little finger. While she was partial to nature shows depicting graphic, animal on animal violence, Quinn decided to recuse herself - leaving her mead untouched - from the counter and walk the perimeter of the bar. It was quite lively. Drunken men and women laughed loudly and drank more. Quinn couldn't help but dislike them for their loudness, and their drunkenness. But mostly Quinn disliked them for their lack of importance. You will live and die in this shit port city, and nobody will have cared, she thought. As if on cue, one of the men looked up and locked eyes with her. His gaze was glassy but slowly the flicker of interest was beginning to blossom in his eye. Quinn froze, waiting to see what, if anything, came of this. Hopefully Kai would finish soon.

Ophelia Sinclair
Despite having the answers they were looking for, Ophelia was not in a rush to complete the task unlike the other female Syndicate member. She wondered idly how well they were doing, though she did not care enough to visit the tavern herself. The stench of alcohol and grubby, peasant men was foul to her and unbefitting for someone of her status to visit. Even if she had gone, she would've stuck out like a sore thumb more than she would like and such general attention wasn't something she craved or sought.

At Axel's suggestion, Ophelia responded with a curious tilt of her head. She returned his gaze with a small smile. "And what might that be?" she asked, his unsettling smile accompanied with her fake one painted a picture of two lovers in a passive aggressive quarrel---though in reality, it was nothing of that sort.

- Axel -
The Treasure xxxx♢ xxxxMiasto xxxx ♢ xxxxIn progress xxxx

Amused smile, the blonde tilted his head. Never had he spent much time with the girl, yet every second of it just added to the unsettlement he felt at the very deepest of his thoughts. Again, he did not like her, though not for reasons that others might have. He would rather have gone with Quinn, were he been given such a choice. Alas, fate has not went the way he had wanted to. Still, he was not much disappointed.

He watched as the two made their way, before turning his attention entirely towards the shorter girl. Almost demeaningly, he bent down slightly to meet her eye level, though a part of him doubted she would be bothered by such a trivial thing.

"Let's just say, given the fact that they do not cooperate we can..." he snapped his finger, and instantly the area surrounding them muted. The liveliness of the tavern, the crashing of waves. All diminished as sound waves halted surrounding them, parried and bounced off, leaving them in their private little invisible area. Where no sound could escape, nor come in. "Have our little fun with them."

Axel snapped back his finger and instantly noise flooded back in, all at once. The ricketing wheels of an old wagon, the hurried footsteps of sailors. "Ophelia Sinclair, right?" he bowed slightly. "I've heard of you and the...nature of your power. Frankly, I don't really care about quest rewards, all those things." He laughed, shaking his head. "It's the experience I'm looking forward to and somehow," he gazed back at her. "I feel like you're not that different."

When their drinks came, Malachai happily took a sip of his, enjoying the mead that he'd been served. It made sense that the locals enjoyed this place - their mead was pretty good. It had a good spice blend that would feel comforting if the location didn't make him uncomfortable, though he wouldn't be expressing that discomfort if he could help it. "Say, beautiful, you wouldn't happen to know anything about a shipwreck around here, would you?"

The blonde pursed her lips, debating whether or not to speak to him. Kai used this as an opportunity to work his anima on her stronger than before. The hesitation slowly melted away as he compelled the girl to want to tell him things. Soon, her expression melted into a sort of endeared smile. "What's a guy like you doing looking for trouble like that?"

"Everyone loves a little bit of adventure, don't you think?"
he countered with a bit of a grin. He could feel the resistance crumbling, letting him work his way in. It was easy with people like this who had never had to work on their mental defenses and were predisposed to liking him in the first place.

His attention was drawn away for a moment when he saw Quinn go off on her own. She wouldn't have been much help for what he was doing at the moment, so it made sense that she'd go off and do her own thing for a moment. He noticed that her mead was untouched. Too responsible to even think of drinking on the job, he guessed. He didn't worry much as he knew she could take care of herself more than he could take care of her. And he knew she wouldn't stray very far anyway. Quinn was nothing if not a reliable partner, fueled by such a strong desire to succeed in the missions delegated to her. Kai never found that he had nearly as much passion for the task at hand. He was more interested in the reward. If there was, in fact, treasure, he was sure that the man who'd hired them would hardly notice if he pocketed some gold himself. The money would buy him some good food. He planned on bringing some Miasto delicacies back with him, maybe sharing them with Ajax if he was feeling generous.

"Yeah, but they've all disappeared already from what I've heard. You'd have to be crazy to want to do that," she said with a shake of her head, almost sad that he would consider pursuing it. Disappeared? Kai guessed that meant the Tenebrae had gotten to them. A normal person wouldn't be able to survive a shipwreck infested by them. That made things worse for him, personally, because he didn't much like fighting them. Maybe he could leave that to Axel and Quinn. Sure, it was his job, but he wasn't going to be able to use his anima to fight them, his best strategy was usually confusing them with his anima and hitting them with his crossbow. He still needed practice with his weapon, but it kept him at a distance and worked well enough.

"I don't think I'd disappear if I had a pretty girl like yourself waiting for me to return," he said with a wink, taking a sip of his mead. As he spoke, he could tell a few others were eavesdropping because he could feel their resistance to him growing. Trying to quell and comfort an entire tavern full of people with his anima was tiring, so he was hoping that they'd be able to get out of there soon. "Where would I have to go to find this shipwreck?"

The barmaid wiped the counter down, ignoring another customer as he tried to ask for a refill, too caught up in her conversation with the stranger she'd somehow taken a liking to. She felt nervous telling him the next piece of information. "I've never gone," she prefaced, her eyes nervously flitting around the room. She lowered her voice when she spoke again. "But I do know it's somewhere around the eastern cliffs by the bay. But it's incredibly dangerous to travel there even under normal circumstances." It was clear she was worried about him. How strange that he could get this woman who hardly knew him to care so much that she was worried for his safety. They were complete strangers, after all. He gave her a comforting smile and put his hand on hers. "Thank you for your help. I'm sure we'll meet again, don't worry."

With that, Malachai stood up and scanned the room for Quinn. It wasn't hard to find the girl who gave off such an intimidating aura to the average person. Well, not just the average person. He strolled over to her casually. "I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long." He glanced around, noticing a table of men eyeing Quinn. It didn't look like good news. He leaned down close, whispering in her ear to avoid any eavesdropping. "We should regroup with our teammates. If they're worth their salt, they should be somewhere near the eastern cliffs."

"That remains to be seen." Quinn followed Kai out of the tavern, happy to be rid of that place, those people, that giggling idiot behind the bar. She let him lead her all the way to the eastern cliffs, the place where they'd been directed - after a little coercion. Quinn thought to herself that this had better be the place or she'd be paying the tavern one last visit before returning to Requiem Academy.

They were here. Where to now? Quinn surveyed the area? "Can you see anything that looks like a place that'd fit a ship?" She scoured the adjacent cliffside for an entrance. The locals had suggested that the ship had washed up somewhere inside this sheer rock face? If all of this had been a wild goose chase...

"Any sign of the others?" Quinn asked, in her most impersonal tone she could muster. She barely let a glance pass between her and Kai. Now was not the time. They were working. The work always came first. Speaking of work...

"I don't trust the people here. They don't like us snooping around." We're lucky to have you along, Quinn thought, but didn't say. She didn't even dare think the same for Ophelia. But the truth of it was there, buried. Without them, Axel and Quinn would've been turned away, or forced to take more drastic measures to get the information they needed. Still, she didn't think for one moment that they were finished dealing with the locals yet. Tenebrae or no Tenebrae. Quinn let a hand rest on the sheath of her blade strapped to her waist.

"Umm," truth be told, Bob hadn't exactly been paying a lot of attention to the person who had asked him to do the quest. He didn't exactly have an eye for detail. But they had looked rich. Shiny. "A noble I think." He was extremely relieved that Khione had agreed to team up. "Okay," he nodded, trying to get into the zone. "I'll do my best." As they moved forward, his eyes were drawn to the way his senior's sword gleamed when it caught the light. He had been wondering about getting a weapon of his own. It would be nice to have something solid in his hands to hold onto. Especially since he was basically helpless if he couldn't work his powers. (which was most of the time)

They entered the ship from a hole torn into the hull, stepping carefully around splintered planks. The inside of the ship was pitch black except from patches of silvery moonlight shining through the gaps in the ragged walls. If this was a horror movie, this would absolutely be the point where the audience would be yelling at the idiots not to go in. Bob gulped. Still, he felt safer with Khione nearby. And a little more determined to suck it up and prove himself. She was an Elite, so she wouldn't let him die, would she? It would ruin her track record or something.

So, where would the treasure be? His eyes adjusted as much as they could to the darkness, which wasn't much, but he could make out the shape of some stairs leading upwards and a shadowy doorway to their left. "I don't think we should split up," he said immediately. "Let's uh. Let's go up." The doorway did not look inviting. Why didn't he bring a torch? Who cares, who needed torches? He tried to psych himself up and moved towards the stairs. To his credit, he made it a full eight steps before his foot went through the floor with a loud crack as the boards splintered, shattering the unearthly silence. He yelped, scrambling backwards quickly, blood rushing in his ears as his heart thumped rapidly.

Once Bob calmed down and his breaths were no longer coming in loud pants, he realised he could hear skittering noises from the doorway...

Oh, shit.

Ophelia Sinclair
"Oh my, oh my. We have a cheeky fella here don't we?" Ophelia thought to herself, smile plastered as she met Axel's eyes with little warmth in her own. "How messy," she giggled in response. The soft ringlets in her hair swayed as she shook her head. "I already got the information we need. The ship is by the cove."

Maybe it was something she should've said sooner, but it was Axel's fault for doubting her abilities.

"Come on, let's go find the others," Ophelia suggested, already walking ahead without turning back. She couldn't care less if Axel followed her or not.

While Ophelia refused to step foot into the tavern, deciding to remain at the town square fountain where they had split up, Axel had returned to inform her that Quin and Kai had already left the taverns, heading towards the East near the cliffs.

"Now why would they decide on the hard route when there was one so much easier?" Ophelia asked herself as she walked over to find them, Axel proving bland company. He was strange. Unsettling. It did not help that he was part of the Elite 10, which made Ophelia as wary of him as he was her.

Her insignia would glow faintly every so often as they walked, but the light would dim just as quickly as it brightens. Rarely this fickle-minded, Ophelia withheld her doubts and concerns, hiding them behind a ladylike facade.

The wind blew harder upon the cliffs and Ophelia sighed softly, keeping her complaints to herself. "Kai, Quinn," she waved over, not bothering to walk further. "It's this way." After she was certain she had captured their attention, she waved them over one last time before heading down towards the cove. While Axel had looked for Quinn and Kai in the tavern, Ophelia had made use of her time by finding out where the cove was.

It really was a hidden path down towards the cliff side, but it seemed like one once well-trodden by the locals, whether it be for romantic escapades or a sea-side picnic.

"What would you three do without me," she thought smugly to herself with a soft satisfied hum. "Watch your step," she warned as the path dipped further down in descent and the firm soil soon turned to coarse sand.

Axel had not reacted much, simply shaking his head at the young girl's antics. For a while, he simply watched her walk over in the distance, resisting the urge to simply push the blonde off the cliff. Cheeky. Speak for herself. Glancing over to the rest of his partners, he allowed them to move forward before himself. He perched at the edge of the cove, watching as the rest of them begin to walk in. Then, he simply raised his hand, directing the light waves to focus towards the inwards of the darkened surrounding. Why struggle so much when things could be easy?

Because it was amusing, of course.

The cove simply opened up the more they made their way inside, the once claustrophobic environment now beginning to widen. It seemed to easy, in his opinion, far too simple for such a highly rated quest. There was no way that this was just it- there must be a catch somewhere, somehow. The writer of this role play is cruel, like that.

Just as the absurd thought had crossed his mind, Axel heard a noise behind him. Then, a grumble. The light that he had directed in decreased in intensity, before eventually, they were fully locked within darkness. He was not sure what had happened, why the open ended cave suddenly had a lid.

"Well, how the turn tables."

Upon arriving at the cliffs, Kai was disappointed that there wasn't a big shipwreck easily visible from their height. It just wasn't going to be that easy, was it? What a drag. To top things off, Axel and Ophelia were nowhere to be seen. He frowned, casting out his senses to see if he could feel anyone nearby. The only presence he could sense was Quinn's, so it seemed like they were alone for now. That wasn't really a bad thing, now that he thought about it. A mischievous smile curled his lips as he cast his gaze on his partner. "No, it looks like we're alone..." he trailed off. There weren't many instances that he got to be alone with Quinn so far from the academy, so maybe he could convince her to let them make use of it, just this one time, despite the fact that they were technically on the job. He opened his mouth, ready to say something when he felt a new presence approaching. Oh, come on. He groaned internally, his smile immediately dropping as he turned to see who it was. From the feeling he'd sensed, it was someone who wasn't particularly malleable to him. Malachai's eyes met Ophelia's and he managed a new smile, though it was difficult with the disappointment he felt. She waved them over, apparently having found out what path led to the shipwreck. His eyes met Quinn's and he gave a shrug. "Nevermind, I guess."

Kai followed Ophelia, glad his friend - more or less - had been able to get the intel to lead them down to the cove. It was hidden enough that you'd have to be a local or a very observant visitor to find it. As they managed their way down, he wondered if the ship would be haunted by Tenebrae. He guessed it would, considering it'd been a well ranked mission, but he didn't particularly want to fight. It really just wasn't his thing. Maybe he could get by with letting Quinn and Axel do all that work. It'd be fair considering that he and Ophelia had done all the intel gathering work. Even if Ophelia's intel had maybe been a little more useful than his. He was cut off from his stream of thought when, all of the sudden, someone turned the lights off. Except, the problem was that they were... outside. And no one could really turn off the sun. Nonetheless, the area was drained of light. It was as if someone closed to door on them, though he couldn't quite tell if that was the case or if they were under attack by an enemy that could blind them. Great.
"Don't suppose any of you have a fire-based anima? I'd take light-based too." he commented, tensing up. He closed his eyes - was there a point with everything being dark anyway? it helped him concentrate - and he once again tried to cast out his senses. He did get a spark of something, but it was strangely difficult to tell what it was. Tenebrae always gave him a weird feeling when he sensed them, but so did some weird humans. He heard a grumble and couldn't help the feeling that this wasn't going to be an easy fight.

"Now that doesn't sound friendly." Malachai pulled out his crossbow he carried slung over his back. Even without sight, he had a pretty good sense of where his companions were because he could sense them and their energy with his anima. He notched an arrow and aimed towards the sound of the grumble. Making sure none of his companions were in his way, he sent it flying, hoping for the best.
