Loudspeakers blared throughout the Little Rock mall, giving orders and news reports to the survivors of the sudden outbreak, telling people where to go and what to do. Simultaneously, they tried to drown out the constant thumps and bangs against the newly reinforced doors. Every second of safety within the building came with the constant, looming threat that the defenses could be breached, and everyone knew it.

Nonetheless, survivors did their damndest to reach the haven, often attempting to find hordes and slip inside through windows or side doors. Needless to say, few people made it. The majority of the masses inside were people who were already there, or had arrived before the undead came in force. Everyone's blood was taken, then they were grouped up and placed in rooms or sectioned off areas until they recieved instructions on what to do next, or they were needed for further tests. For the most part, everyone's blood had been taken, and the few doctors, scientists, and geneticists the government had sent were left with trying to figure out how to cure the disease. The survivors, in the mean time, were simply supposed to wait in their groups and do what they were told.

Andromeda Rails planned to do just that. They were doing the fighting and defending for her, so all she had to do was sit there with head headphones in and scroll through her gallery. Her phone was plugged in to the outlet -- thankfully there was both both power and WiFi still -- so that the battery didn't die, and she wore an expression that would indicate nothing had changed in the slightest. There was the fact that pictures of dead people, zombies, corpses and blood were plastered all over Instagram, but otherwise nothing new.

She sat reclined on the only bench in the room, legs crossed and her misty eyes darting from picture to picture. Her hiking Axe was laid across her lap, and her pistol sat beside her -- safety on, of course. She had on a bloody blue tank top and black skinny jeans, with scuffed up white converse stained with specks of blood as well. She'd been one of the few to fight their way in before too many zombies crowded the entries, and although it was evident in her appearance, her expression gave nothing away. She seemed as calm, bored and unentertained as usual.

Since she'd been the first person in the room, Andy had simply popped in her music and not really paid attention as others entered. She figured if someone had something to say, they'd speak up or tap her shoulder. For now, however, she was content with waiting for her next task.

Sam followed the crowds in front of her closely, being careful to keep up the pace. Blood rushed down from her busted lip and down to her chin from where she had gotten knocked down by a much larger man who had apparently a hurry to get inside the building. She didn't bother to wpe it off though, her mind was elsewhere. Questions raced through her head. Did I pack enough? Should I have called mom? When can I go home? There was no telling when the questions would be answered, but until then she would just have to keep moving. She didn't want her head to be busted next. She was hurridly placed inside a room with only one other person. Sam scanned over the room, quickly noting that the girl had occupied the only sitting area in the room. Instead of growing a pear and going to sit with her, Sam moved to the corner of the room where she stood awkwardly, scrolling through her facebook to take her mind off of things. She went to her messages app and attempted to taxt her mother; whom of which hadn't replied to her since yesterday. The two lived in different areas though, so maybe her Mom's phone service had already been cut off.

Copying the girl across the room, Sam put her earphones in and turned her music up loud enough to cover up the sound of all the chaos going on outside the room and building. Her hands shook as she checked each of her apps, all flooded with old information about celeberties who had been claimed by the undead. Eventually, she had to shut it all out, as her hands had begun to shake again. Shaking and sweating were signs of the bitten, something she didn't wanna be potrayed as.

Tyler Grey

Tyler walked along with the crowd of people, blocking them out as he listened to his music. Some older man decided to try and take his bow and arrow from him. However, this was swiftly discouraged with a swift kick to the shin. After getting tested and all that, he walked to the room he was ordered to be in. He payed no mind to the two older girls, and just sat in a corner by himself absent mindedly running his fingers over the words on his dog-tag. Never Never Give up. He shook his head at these stupid words, never give up? When his parents gave up on trying, they just left and went north. This was about a month ago. They'd taken his older sister Jem and just left at night, no goodbye, no note.

He was forced to ask around until one elderly couple admitted to having seen the three sneaking around late the past night. With a sigh, Tyler focused on the situation at hand. The haven was currently being attacked by zombies and they were likely to die.
Wow, so encouraging. Really joyful thoughts aren't they. He bitterly thought to himself, as his anxiety ridden thoughts filled his mind. All the what if's and negative scenarios. Bad enough that happened on a regular basis, but with an actual horror story right out the gate? He basically had just created is own mental hell. Turning up the volume of his music, he tried to relax. After all, they were gonna be fine. Right?

Julie

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Julie bit her tongue as a woman was shoved into her shoulder. The copper taste of blood filled her mouth and she swallowed it, trying desperately to wiggle through the crowd and into the safe haven.
Where's Dad? She thought, whipping her head around. She hadn't seen him in a time. They had left the house together, but now he was nowhere to be seen. Julie pushed the thought away swiftly, shaking her head, and resumed her task of attempting to enter the building. Surely he would meet her inside

Julie's instincts kicked in. She ducked her head under the arm of the woman who had hit her and weaved in between a few larger men. Bob in between two young women. Another older woman. A man tried to grab her and she shimmied away. The door to the mall, the safe haven, was in sight now, and she moved quickly, brushing past hands and shoulders, using her size to her advantage as she tried to reach the entrance. Finally, her fingers gripped the frame of the doorway and she pulled herself through. Although inside wasn't much calmer than the outside, she was relieved.

Immediately, a frantic hand caught her by the shoulder and she squeaked quite loudly, to her embarrassment. The owner of the hand was a tall woman wearing a badge with a red plus sign.
An official, Julie thought. The woman began to pull her towards two lines that had formed near the back of the mall. "Here sweetheart. New admissions need to get their blood tested. We wouldn't want those nasty creatures in here, would we? Now be a good girl and get in line, won't you?" The woman not-so-gently guided Julie into the shorter line and left her there.

Anxious, and a bit annoyed, Julie began to wait.

Adam

"HANDS OFF ME, SVOLOCH!"

Adam yelled to the two men who were trying to steal his stuff. He keeps on yelling, spitting out curse words, both in English and Russian.

"SUKIN SYN!"

He yelled at the man trying to yank the AK from his arms. The man was fairly young, about 26 years old by the looks of it, and sported a goatee. The other man holding Adam by the neck from behind is a lot older, in his mid 30s, wearing a red shirt. They seem to be working together. Father and son, maybe? Or just two pals who probably met at a bar or something?

Well, it doesn't matter. They're messing with Adam now. And the Russian was completely different from what he was before the outbreak. Before all the zombies. He will fight back, no matter the cost.

Adam instinctively tightens his iron grip around the AK. It's his only reliable defense in this world, and no way is he going to let some jerk with a goatee take it from him. He tries a few kicks at Goatee, with the third one landing a hit on his belly. The man immediately lets go of the AK, and drops to the floor, holding his belly.

Goatee isn't going to live. It's utter chaos outside the mall, with everyone trying to get in, and no one wants to be second. It reminds Adam of when he was young, he would watch the local teenagers throw rocks at a beehive, or dare each other to climb up the tree and drop a beehive or a hornet's nest down. The bees scrambling in disarray, the loud buzzing of the confused and angry bees look almost exactly like what's outside the mall. And if you're stuck on the ground during a human stampede like this...

'This isn't the time, Kutuzov. Focus on the task at hand. You still have Redshirt on you.' Adam's mind snapped back at the man. Redshirt was practically choking Adam at this point. Adam struggled a bit, and then managed to elbow the man in the chest with his right arm. Redshirt lets go, but immediately launches himself back at Adam with a right hook. Adam didn't dodge in time.

Three or four bruises later, Adam finally catches on, and finally managed to dodge the guy's left hook, and then immediately punched Redshirt in the throat. That should keep him away.

Adam immediately makes haste towards the mall, squeezing through a bunch of other people, and managed to cling onto the door handle, and after a good solid minute of struggling, finally squeezes into the mall.

'Whew,' he thought to himself, panting heavily. 'That was easy.' he thought to himself, jokingly. It's important to keep up morale, and a Russian should understand this the most.

Andromeda
Soon after Andy's all-time favorite song came on -- Cool Kids, by Echosmith -- a girl her age entered the room. She noticed that the girl looked towards the bench, but before Andromeda could move her things she opted to stand in the corner instead. Soon after, a boy -- a kid, in her eyes -- entered. He was a teenager, probably around 14 or 15, and the youngest person she'd seen so far. Despite the many people that had made it to the mall, there were few children. The reason why they probably weren't there instantly killed Andy's moderately good mood, and she pulled out her headphones with a sigh.

Looking at the two on their phones, Andromeda laughed quietly. "Nothing's really changed, huh?" She said, mostly to herself, eyeing the phones. "Technology, and all that." She knew they couldn't hear her, but she was content with speaking her mind aloud.

Thinking others may join them as well, Andy laid her hiking axe across her lap and pushed her bag under the bench, leaving her phone to charge on the armrest. She didn't want to be that one hipster asshole who hogged the only available seating, but it was a little late for first impressions with these two.

(If y'all want me to control NPCs like the doctors or guards, just tell me peeps. If y'all wanna do it y'allselves, that's cool too. I LIVE IN TEXAS, DON'T JUDGE ME.)

"Hey, hey, easy! Easy!"

Adam said to the guard currently escorting him roughly towards... wherever he's supposed to be. The mall looks like hell. Not that different from the outside. He can barely hear the muffled noises of zombies banging against the doors, growling, hungry for humans.

The things give him shivers.

After a while, the guard shoved him into a room, where he is ordered to stay. Annoyed, the Russian grudgingly complies. 'There wasn't a need for him to be that rough to me. I'm just as human as he is, right?' Adam thought to himself. But then again, he did look menacing, what with the AK and all. Speaking of the AK, Adam slings it over his shoulder, carrying it comfortably on his back.

The room was small, with just a bench. There were 3 people in there with him: two kids huddled in the corners, staring mindlessly into their phones. 'Times haven't changed, I see.' Adam thought to himself humorously. And there was this girl, casually sitting on the bench. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Adam walked up to the bench and sat right next to the girl, and took out his keychain.

The thing's still mostly brand new, with only a hint of rust. Of course, it hasn't been that long since...

'Stop thinking about them, Adam. That's the past, you're in the present. Focus on the future.' thought himself.

Adam's thoughts worked a bit differently from others. It was like his 'conscience', an outsider, commenting on his life as he lives it. It's a nice thing to have, especially in an apocalypse, where you could be alone for days, months, even years without anyone or anything to talk to and then you go insane and you start seeing things, believing things that aren't real, and going absolutely--

Of course, Adam also gets carried away in his thoughts very easily. A bit too easily.

Kristen had been bored the moment she had walked through the doors of the Little Rock mall. She had seen all the people and immediately wanted to walk out the door and let herself get infected. But, no, she had continued into the mall and into what would soon turn into the dullest experience of her life. So, there she sat in the corner of the crowded room trying to count the number of floor tiles.

"Are you a ninja?" A small boy to the side of he asked. She looked at him, he was staring at the sword strapped to her back. "I promise I won't tell anyone if you are."

"I'm not a ninja," Kristen told him. "But I wouldn't be able to tell you even if I was." She winked at the kid and he giggled before hurrying back to his mom. She heard him telling her that he had met a ninja, and she just shook her head. Kids never really understood that not telling anyone included their mothers.

Standing from her position on the floor Kristen made her way over to a vending machine that had been pushed into a corner in order to make more space. Kristen slide two dollars into the machine, then hit the return change and Coke button at the same time, out popped both her money and a cold drink. She smiled at her small victory. Then, she returned to her place on the wall and drank her Coke slowly.

Jane squeezed her way through the dense crowd of people in the Little Rock mall. The crowd had become so- crowded that at times she was lifted off her feet. Looking around Jane noticed that alot of people seemed to be carrying weapons, ranging from bow and arrows, swords and even guns, they were far more prepared for this event then her as all Jane had was her iphone. Peaking over the top of the crowd she spotted a woman with a sword strapped to her back over at the vending machine. She pushed her way towards her until she was out of the thick of the crowd, she watched curiously as the woman put her coins in the machine but then seemed to get them back along with a can of coke. She had just "life hacked" the machine. Jane grinned to herself before turning her attention to the numerous people being escorted into rooms.

Jane sighed, she was supposed be getting her blood taken but it was near impossible to do so with so many people all trying to do the same thing, so she simply pulled out her headphones, plugged them into her phone and turned up the music, pacing idly on the spot, slowly making her way to one side of the mall.

Tyler finally couldn't sit still. He stood up and began pacing the length of the wall. His mind ran through all the scenarios of the situation. The wall breaks and he has to rely on these strangers to survive. And if they decide he's too weak, he'll be used as bait. His fingers nervously traced the lettering of his dog tag. The muffled commotion outside only added on to the anxiety. His footsteps echoed on the floor, likely to annoy the other two, but he didn't think about this. All he thought about was how he'd been taught to kill a zombie. Aim for the head, and stay silent. Silence is key. Noise attracts them. This brought the subject, on why. Why such a large horde? Sure, some come and go but one this big? It might be that since the haven house such a large mass of people, the noise and scent attracted them like sharks to chum.

Samantha

After some time, Samantha scrolled upon a short article mentioning the mall she was at. It had only been posted five minutes ago, yet the article was inviting more people to the "Safe Haven". Sure, the place was big, but didn't these people understand that only so many people could fit? If the zombies on the outside actually made it inside, the place would be complete chaos. Once again, Sam had to close it all out. She ripped out her earphones and put them back in her pocket. Looking around her to see that more people had arrived. May as well make a conversation right? "You guys think we're gonna be here a while? I'm not sure I packed enough.." she asked, dragging off at the thought of running out of food before she could get back to her place. She was due for a college examin a week, and didn't even think to pack her books before heading out. Hell, she hadn't even thought to feed her dog, Skye. The poor dog was probably scared to death by now. It'd been two hours since she left.

She folded her arms across her chest and stared up at the lights above her, which had begun to flicker a bit.

Tyler looked at her. He shrugged and continued pacing as he talked. "I dunno, but it's seriously bad considering my guardians insisted I brought my bow along. They usually discourage me carrying it everywhere." He said caretakers instead of parents, because that's all they were. They were the two who had decided to teach and help him along in the haven. Not many kids are here, so it was pretty normal for someone to watch over him. After all, his actual family had left him. "Worst case scenario, the wall gives and we all break." He said this bluntly, a tinge of anxiety and fear in the tone.

Jane finally managed to push her way to the front of the crowd to get her blood taken. It all happened extremely quickly, the doctor sat her down on a chair, shoved a needle in her arm, which by the way hurt alot and then she was ushered off into a room with complete strangers all within a few minutes. "You guys think we're gonna be here a while? I'm not sure I packed enough.." Jane looked at the source of the voice, a blonde haired woman. "Judging by what's going on outside, i think so" Jane chipped in, looking from the woman to the brown haired boy standing next to her, he looked younger then herself. She looked around at the other people in the room before turning back to her phone, scrolling through the various news articles and gorey pictures of mutilated bodies.

As the light flickered above Samantha, the loudspeaker came on once more. "Attention refugees," It said. "Due to low power reserves, all remaining electricity is being diverted to the medical area for blood testing and cure research. Lanterns will be provided to as many rooms as possible, but you are advised to use a light if you have one." It cut off, leaving many speechless before the lights in their room cut off.

The medical center was, as it was announced, still lit, and people began to crowd towards the light slightly more than before. Soldiers began to turn on electric lanterns and flashlights, leaving other parts of the mall lit as well. The dying sunlight filtered through the windows high above, but was little help in brightening the mall up.

Andromeda
"Dammit!" Andromeda cursed, unplugging her phone and turning it off. She had 100%, but sitting in the dark wasn't a fun idea for her, and her flashlight would kill the battery. "I hope no-one scared of the dark." She muttered.

Thanks to the fact that there were no windows in the small room, it was pitch black except for the small screens of the others' phones. Andy didn't figure they'd be getting a lantern, so she sat back and pulled up her knees. Turning her head in the direction of the girl, shrugging. "Hell, we might not get out of here at all. The zombies are banging down the doors, after all. I'm sure that you can just loot stores or whatever if you need anything though." It may've been a little unnerving to others how easily Andromeda had gone in apocalypse mode. She felt crushed that the z's had gotten Iggy Azalea, but otherwise she was pretty OK with the situation.

A man had joined them, taking a seat next to Andy, and she sent him a small wave before digging a pack of gum from her bag. As she popped a spearmint Trident in her mouth, the kid spoke up. He had a pretty realistic view of the situation, surprising her a bit. She'd honestly expected him to say he just wanted to go home to mommy. A new voice joined the conversation now, belonging to another girl. The room was starting to fill up.

Ty groaned. "Well we're fucked. Since we'll be here for a while we should probably go around with names. Considering if shit hits the fan, we'll need to get the hell out of here. Not to mention the fact that we are currently in a pitch black room with the insane sounds from outside. My name's Tyler, but most people just shorten it to Ty." He leaned against a nearby wall. The dark wasn't that bad, as long as you knew what to expect and how to react. Something touches you? Stab it. Something approaches? Shoot it. Simple as that.

Adira had made her way with the herd of people, unsure what she was supposed to do. She didn't have time to collect any supplies from home, though she wore her jean shorts, a white t-shirt and a black hoodie over top. The pocket knife she had collected was tucked away safely inside her pocket, her light brown hair pulled up in a pony tail though it was hidden behind the hood of her jacket. Her caramel colored gaze shifted from side to side as she moved to a corner, where she would sit down, pulling her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around her legs.

She was nervous, though she managed to keep an emotionless expression painted on her face. She bit back the need to cry, wishing she had been there for Alex when she needed her, Adira felt like her little sisters death was her fault, but what could she have even done? She didn't know how to fight, she never was much for the fighting movies, she was just so consumed in her own world that she didn't even notice what was going on until it was much to late.

The lump grew within her throat as Adira fought off the tears that threatened to emerge from her eyes. She couldn't go for a run to clear her mind, she couldn't talk to anyone... what was she supposed to do? A room filled with emotionally traumatized individuals that didn't think what they could do to help anyone else... this was the end of the world, and it was clear that this safe zone that they all huddled up in, wouldn't be very safe for much longer. It wasn't made to keep thousands of bodies out or in... but they would make their way in soon enough, at least that is what Adira figured. That was why she was in the far corner, away from the front entrance... she would be able to see everything that happened from her position, and from there, she could get out as safely as possible.

It was then that the lights went out and the voice over the loud speaker filled the air. This was only the beginning, and soon the room would be in a panic. It was going to be a long night, and Adira knew, tonight, she would not get any sleep. Too many people to watch, and panicking people, were the worst.

Kristen finished her drink not long after she had bought it. Once she finished it, she played with the small metal tab on the top of the can. Not long after that, though, she soon lost interest in the can altogether. That was when the lights went out.

"God damn it," Kristen muttered under her breath as her hand automatically drifted to the handle of her katana. "Some shelter, can't even keep the power on."

Slowly, Kristen stood and reached out her hand to find the wall. Then, with her hand on the wall began to make her way over to the doors. There she noted that the doors were locked. Kristen wasn't sure if they were trying to keep people out, or keep them in. Or maybe, these weren't actually the exit. She had zero visibility with the trouble with the lights.

When could she leave? Kristen wondered, she knew this was a "safe place" but she really wasn't feeling too safe. There were too many people. She wanted to leave now. She'd take her chances with the outside world.

Samantha

Everyone's replies to Sam's questions really racked her nerves, causing her to check her phone once more for any messages from her mother. Nothing. Soon, the lights were out and Sam was hardly able to tell who was speaking anymore. She slid down the wall, sitting criss cross on the floor and began rambling. "I fogot to feed my puppy. She's probably terrified by now. Do you think they would've let me bring her in?" she asked, really just talking to herself. The truth was, she was lonely and scared. She had high hopes that she would come across someone she knew that could help calmher down, but that wasn't the case here. She turned on her phone's flashlight and slid it across the floor, illuminating the room. "I never really liked the dark." she mumbled, putting her head against the wall. From the looks of it, the group had been locked in, which made her worry even more. Her eyes drifted around the room, searching for any kind of exit that she could use if things really did go south. She couldn't really tell though, her phone only lit up so much.

"So did you guys hear about Tyler Joseph, from twenty one pilots? It hasn't really been confirmed true or not, but everyone's saying he's been bit. I'd like to hope he wasn't though, I loved the guy." she said, attempting to spark a different conversation outside of her own personal safety. There had been a lot of rumours of singers who had been taken by the dead, but Sam tried not to believe them until they hit the news. For her, Beyonce's was the most suprising. After all, didn't these people have like, body guards?

Adam

'The lights have gone out. Great.' thought himself just as the only fluorescent light in the room flickers and then turns off completely, leaving only a faint burn mark in the bulb itself, and even that fades as well, covering the room in darkness, now illuminated only by the phones.

Adam slides out his AK, and reaches into his rucksack. After some mucking about in the darkness, he managed to find the lighter he picked up on the way here. Belonged to a smoker, so Adam wouldn't count on this lighting his way for too long.

He lights up the room, and the smell of gas and the fire in front of him slowly fills the confined space he was in.

Adam

But of course, it was redundant, because a girl had so kindly put her phone on flashlight mode and slid it out to the middle of the room, illuminating the room just as effectively as his lighter. Adam puts his lighter away.

The girl's talking about dead celebrities, singers, talented, famous people taken by the zombies. Adam knows about this all too well. He opens up.

"Well, if he's bit, then he's bit. No helping that. Just like Brad Pitt and Elijah Wood, they're bi, nothing more to it."

Oh yeah. He's a real optimistic fellow.

"Oh, Great!" Jane exclaimed as the power went out, not realizing that the tone of her voice sounded extremely bratty, but only a few seconds later one of the girls in the room turned the flashlight on her phone on, making the dark slightly less scary. "Well, looks like we havea full epidemic on our hands" Jane said, half to herself as she flicked through her phone, there was only 61% battery left. She might need her phone later and who knew how long it would be before she could charge it, so she turned it off and slumped down against the wall. Jane felt uncomfortable with so many weapons in the room and her having none so she decided to stay quiet.

Adira's gaze darted to the sudden light on the other side of the room, clearly someone turned on their flashlight on their cell phone, unable to handle the creeping darkness that surrounded them. Banging could be heard from outside faintly, if anyone dared to listen past the whispers and panicked voices in the room. It was the hoard, and it wouldn't be long before these people, would begin screaming in pain as their flesh was torn to pieces from the virus infested people out there.

Adira didn't want to admit what was going on, but she wasn't dumb... she knew that denial would lead to death, so for now, she was going to map out her every move. She pulled her knees in closer to her chest, her breath becoming a bit more sporadic as she imagined her sisters death. It was terrifying, but she couldn't allow herself to be overcome. Most people here talked as if they were in their normal daily lives, but it was clear that the majority of them were afraid deep inside, their conversations a facade. This safe place, was going to be these peoples demise, and it was rather pathetic that they trusted in this building and the people that ran it. Sheeple...

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, calming herself as she listened to everything around her. Being a loner most of her life had its perks... She was observant, and that might just be the thing that keeps her alive. Making friends in this place was the last thing on Adira's mind. Chances were, they would most likely be dead sooner, rather than later.

Tyler stood up. "Okay, look. Everyone's on edge, we are locked in here and who knows whats going on outside. But we all need to be ready for the worst. Does anyone in this room not have a weapon?" He waited quietly for a response, listening to the noises outside, waiting for the moaning of zombies to get closer. Sure, he was the youngest, but he sure as hell wasn't stupid. He knew the possibilities and what could happen. It was an apocalypse, you learn or die. Survival. Of. The Fittest. There's no mother's to care and protect you now. Only yourself and your skills.

Adira's gaze moved to settle on the boy that stood up and began speaking loud enough for everyone to hear him. Did her pocket knife count as a weapon? She doubted it, but she didn't want to take what others could use. From what she had seen, the infected weren't really fast, and she was. But maybe, a weapon wouldn't be too bad an idea?

She didn't mean to raise her hand, but it lifted of its own accord. Maybe it was the vibrating fear that shook her mind, or possibly it was the fatigue that settled within her... either way, her hand was raised. Though, it quickly fell, unsure if the male had seen her or not. An inward battle was ensuing in her psyche, and it was annoying. If someone else needed whatever weapon he was planning on giving, she would be taking their chance away... but at least the guy had the sense to stand up and make it clear that things were bad.
