Princess Rui

Location: Horokoshi Castle, Garden | Interacting with: Shin ( Rusty of Shackleford Rusty of Shackleford ) | Mentions: Kora ( -robert- -robert- ) Florian ( SpiralErrant SpiralErrant )

The dark grey clouds hung low in Horokoshi that day, clouds heavy and about to burst with rain. The gardens of Horokoshi castle was lush, the thick green foliage showed off the beautiful summer flowers. Too bad the sun wasn't shining, but the princess wouldn't have sat at home to enjoy the flowers anyway. She would most likely be out by the river swimming with Suijin. Instead, Rui was sat on the veranda, her legs dangling off the edge. Her bare feet skimming the top of the pond, making ripples and causing the plump koi fish scatter.

She finished the remaining alcohol in her cup and poured herself another cup. It had been peaceful and quiet since the end of the war and the announcement of her sister's wedding. But with her entire life training for battle and wars, Rui was at a bit of a loss at what to do now. She still kept up with her training. You never know what can happen. And she still felt like she had to look over her shoulder every time, even in her own home and despite knowing that Teijin was always not far. It's not surprising though. Since her own mother was assassinated within these walls. Being with Suijin was the most relaxed she's been. Drinking from time to time helped her relax, but she knows when to stop, so that she still had a clear head.

The first drops of rain finally fell, making pitter patter sounds on the roof tiles and the gardens. She stretched a hand out, loving the feel of the rain against her warm skin. Another sound behind her caught her attention, quickly bringing her hand back in and swiftly turning to see the intruder. If it had been a hostile one, Teijin would have appeared. Her cold eyes soften at the sight of her eldest brother, and his disappointed look he wore as he faced her. She relaxed her posture once more and gave him her signature playful smirk. "Don't give me that look, Shin. You can't hog the entire castle's supply of sake."

She patted the space next to her, "Come, join me. It's rare to have some time away from all the planning and kingdom ruling." Rui chuckled, the same couldn't be said for her. Even after the war and having so much free time, she still doesn't want to deal with the politics for the kingdom. She poured him a glass and smiled at him.

"You know, we've yet to talk about the wedding. I don't mean what flowers we are going to have for the ceremony. What... what do you think of Kora and Florian?" She was unsure if she should bring the topic up with her brother. She is aware of her brother's hatred for their soon to be brother-in-law. Rui herself was unsure what she should think of their union as a whole, and maybe Shin could offer some wise words or share her doubts.

Prince Shin
Interacting: RI.a RI.a

Shin had woken up early that morning. It was required for his morning routine. Wake up, pray for forgiveness, light incense, sharpen his sword, meditate, the like. Maybe even throw some light drinking in for good measure. He eventually went to the garden, his kimono loose so it would be a bit more comfortable and less hot. His katana was on his right with his wazikashi, his sandals gently clicking against the floor. He sat beside his sister, saying, "You ought to stop drinking that. It's foul stuff." The irony wasn't lost on him. He didn't want his sister to start drinking too. He sighed, saying, "So, how did you sleep? Well, I hope." He was just as out of purpose as she was. He'd spent his entire life fighting these people, so to suddenly have to make peace was...strange. A good strange. He was tired of the constant bloodshed, but strange all the same. He had a lot more free time on his hand, and that meant more drinking time. Whatever her answer, he simply nodded, saying, "So, our sister is getting married to the prince of our sworn enemy. How times change, huh?" He laughed a little, trying to mask his hatred for Florian. He hated the man. He waged war against Horokoshi for years, and then he just marries his sister and acts like nothing happened. But Shin was honor-bound to accept it. Kora loved Florian, so he had no choice but to accept it. He looked out at the garden, already getting a bit sweaty from the humidity. His expression grimaced at his sister's question, saying, "I...do you want me to be honeat, Rui? Completely and utterly honest with you? I hate that man. I hate him and everything he stands for. I fought him for half of my life. Mother and father died because of his men. And yet he just comes in wanting peace?" He sighed, his rant subsiding as he said, "But Kora loves him. I don't know why, but she does. And I can't take that from her. So there. That's what I think of them."

Prince Florian
Ularekath. A land of fire and iron. Where taciturn savages clawed at the earth to turn its insides out and cover their country in the color of rust, all in search of new weapons of war to satisfy their unquenchable thirst for war. Depending on who you asked it was a backwater nation, stuck in the past and waving fiery sticks at the slightest whiff of magic or advanced sciences, or it was an amoral Juggernaut of a nation that held nothing sacred and was constantly eyeing up its neighbors with a tyrannical gaze. Yes Florian had heard all the worst things people could say about his home land in his time, along with all their expectations that this prince of theirs would become yet another warlord in a long line of them. Chained to the conflicts that had defined Ularekath for so long.

Yet as Florian stood out on the balcony, overlooking the palace grounds, the sprawling capital city and the rolling hills beyond he could banish such petty insults with a scoff. A king must be a realist, he knew that all too well, but they must also take pride in their nation or all their future endeavors would be doomed to failure. Looking out over the beating heart of Ularekath Florian could feel enough pride to fill his chest. Stretch far beneath him was a buzzing hub of trade and industry, protecting by grand walls and soldiers he had stood beside and witnessed the metal of.

For over a hundred years the fires had war had raged between Ularekath and Horokoshi and they had forged both peoples into something hardy and proud. Conflict had pushed both groups to their extremes and those that still stood did so stronger. Florian had to believe that if the wedding could go ahead, if they could achieve this impossible peace then they could finally focus these same energies inwards. That Ularekath could find itself in a new era of prosperity. That they could finally find a chance to heal in the wake of all the blood that had been shed. That despite how far they had all waded into the more and darkness that it could stop and turn back from the fate that had threatened them.

He had to believe that.

With a final sigh Florian turned and headed back into the palace. There was still so much to do. Plans to be made, egos to be soothed and malcontents to be brought into line. The wedding itself was looking to be far greater challenge than any battle he'd ever faced let alone what could follow it! He wondered how Kora was doing on her end...

Royal Retainer Rei
Interacting: Rusty of Shackleford Rusty of Shackleford RI.a RI.a

Rei woke from the nightmare early in the morning, and after realizing that he was dreaming he relaxed. It wasn't unusual for him to wake up from a nightmare, always the same nightmare with the same outcome. He remains in solemn silence for a second followed by getting up and going to check on his daughter. As he stands still in the doorway staring at the calm sleeping face of his daughter his restlessness settles and a smile forms on his face.

His regular routine begins, he washes and drinks his early morning tea as a substitution for the usual sake, he needs to make changes if he wants to see his daughter's wedding. By the time everything was done his daughter had already woken up and begun being dressed by her attendants, soon after she joins her father sitting outside fidgetting impatiently. Rei tries to ignore it for a few seconds but he gives up looking down at his daughter with a smile and tells her; "It smells like it's going to rain today, better get your umbrella wouldn't want to be wet on your first day, would you now?". She then sprints inside grabbing her umbrella and by the time she's back, Rei is waiting for her at the door.

Grabbing her hand they begin walking towards her new school, Rei could feel her nervousness, before this her mother used to tutor her so it was a big change for her. Rain began to pour down, but absorbed in her thoughts the child didn't notice, Rei sighed as he begun bending the water droplets to fall around them. As they arrived at the school gates he knelt to be on the same size as the child and told her; "Listen, there is a story of a butterfly who dreamt of reaching the sky, one day woken up by a lullaby she caught a lift from a nearby gust. So go fly my butterfly." as he flicked her forehead.

He let out a sigh again as he saw run her in the school, but soon he began walking towards the royal palace to do his duties. A while later he arrived in the royal garden as he saw the two royals enjoying some sake, he approached them stopping at a respectful distance as he bowed; "My apologies for my lateness your highnesses, I had important business to attend.". He said as sat and quietly begun his guarding duties.

Princess Merliah
Interacting: The_Omega_Effect The_Omega_Effect
Merliah woke up to a bright sunny morning she jumped out of bed and went to her balcony to look out. Seemed like she was looking for someone. She sighed at her disappointment. She was hoping her brother Kyros would be returning home today but she didn't see anyone approaching the castle. Granted it was still morning but she hoped he be here by now. Just then a servant walked into her room. She was older plump looking woman by the name of Ruth. "Princess good see your actually up this morning now come along and let me get you ready for the day." Merliah walked over to Ruth who was going through the closet pulling out a dress. "Hey Miss Ruth I don't have anything to do today do I?" Ruth pulled out Merliah's favorite dress. "Not that I know of dear. With the wedding coming up and everything I don't think we will be having your usual schedule." Merliah nodded. Merliah wasn't to happy about this wedding he was marry into a family that killed their mother. How could he do something like that. Making peace with a kingdom sure she was ok with that but Marrying?! It seemed so extreme. Ruth helped Merliah into her dress then sat her down infront of her vanity and brushed out her hair. Merliah's mind had wondered else where. She noticed her bodyguard wasn't around. At least she didn't think he was. He normally came with Ruth every morning and stood outside by the door. Merliah smiled to herself. Ha she would get total free roam of the castle with no one trailing her down. Once Ruth was done Merliah got up from her seat and headed out the door. "Princess! Just where do you think your going without your guard?!" Ruth yelled out. Merliah stuck her head back in the room. "Anywhere I want." After that she quickly ducked out and headed down the hall. She had her hands placed behind her back as she roamed the castle. Maybe she would go to the kitchen and ask for some breakfast. As she headed down the hall she stopped in her tracks when she saw Kyros going down the hall. She smiled happily ran towards. "Kyros your back!" She then jumped on his back and smiled. "Welcome home!"

Princess Kora

Horokoshi's skies were filled with dark clouds, ready to burst at any moment. Kora was not particulary fond of this weather, but what could be done? She couldn't just stay in bed the entire day, so she rised to face yet another day. It filled her heart with joy being able to wake up and just... do what she felt like doing. No issues, no complications, no problems... nothing to deal with. It was the calm after the storm.

Soon after getting up, she would join two of her beloved younger siblings, Rui and Shin, in the palace's veranda. The royal retainer was fulfilling his duties, and Shin and Rui sat down next to eachother. After greeting the retainer, Kora sat beside her two siblings, the raindrops lightly fell, wetting her kimono. Kora hoped to reconnect with her siblings now that the war was finally coming to an end. Although many disapproved, she honestly believed her marriage with Florian was for the best.

"Good morning... how are you two today? ... ah how I miss this... just sitting down and talking about everything..."

She was proud of what her dear siblings had become. Shin had grown to be worthy of the crown, one thing was certain, once she left her kingdom to become the queen of Ularekath, Horokoshi would be in good hands. Rui grew into a beautiful woman, both on the inside and on the outside; she was brave; she was a warrior; she was strong, she possessed all the traits that Kora lacked... and that wasn't a bad thing.

Prince Kyros of the Ularekath
474779168b917bbcfb417aaa2821699f.png
The task that Kyros was given was not that was too challenging. In fact, ever since his brother and the enemy princess started to mingle, He had noticed that almost all of his missions were extremely easy for someone of his capabilities. While annoyed at first, he found it understandable as with the wedding coming up, his death would be disastrous not just for him. All he needed to do was to gather intel on a Horokoshi military camp near the border and give a report on what they were doing, with emphasis on whether they were mobilizing or not. He was not even tasked with finding crucial or specific information. Just a general idea of how things were happening. This lack of difficulty meant that his skills would not be tested. Despite being somewhat easy, the mission took him quite a long period of time, with him not finding any time for a minute of sleep. In his line of work however, a full night of sleep was not to be expected, let alone a brief nap. Upon returning and giving the full report, all he wanted to do was to return to his room and lay on his bed. However, his rest would have to be delayed.

Kyros was walking in the hallways when he heard a familiar voice. "Kyros you're back!" He wanted to turn to his sister and respond, with him not being quick enough to avoid her jumping onto him. "Welcome home!" He struggled to hold her at first, with him almost losing his balance. "Merliah! My back!" It did not take him long to regain his balance. Merliah's randomness was not something unfamiliar Kyros. "I'd carry you to where ever you're going...but I'm a little tired so we'll just have to walk there."

"Aww alright." Merliah jumped off his back and moved infront of him. "Now you better have some interesting stories for me. Cause I'm quite bored." Merliah said with a smirk. "Oh! Did you bring me back anything this time!?"

Kyros sighed in relief as she got off of his back. It puzzled him how she managed to be this energetic all the time. She really was not cut out for any of this princess crap. He chuckled as she asked for what he had brought for her. He pat her on the head and knelt down slightly. "Ah yes. How could I forget?" He looked to both ends of the corridor briefly before talking to her in a more hushed tone. He grabbed onto the gift he had for her that he kept in a small bag at his side for his tools. It was a small, steel, black, dagger like weapon that could be thrown, a Kunai. "Now, you have to promise to me that you no one else will see this and that you will be careful with it. We could both get in a lot of trouble." The chances of them being punished at all were slim, and even if they would get caught, the actual punishments would not be too severe.

Merliah watched as he bent down and went searching through his small bag. Her eyes widen a bit surprised when he pulled out a small black Kunai. She looked at it as spoke and she nodded. "I promise I won't tell a soul. Not even my guard." She took the Kunai and looked at it. She didn't expect him to get her a kunai. "This is so great! Thanks Kyros!" She quickly covered her mouth when she realized she was yelling.

He then stood back up with a smile, happy that Merliah liked the present. "I do believe these types of knives are called Kunai. They are from the Horokoshi so don't show it to Florian." He said with quietly. "Just try not to cut yourself with that okay? These things are supposed to be very sharp." After taking a deep breath, he figured that his rest could be postponed. He felt like he could spend a little bit more time awake, despite the bags under his eyes telling a different story. "Have you had breakfast yet?"

"
I won't" Merliah said still looking at the Kunai. She then looked up at him when he asked about breakfast. "huh?...Oh! No I haven't I was thinking about heading to the kitchen and getting some."

"
Alright then. I'm a little hungry too actually." He then started to walk towards the kitchen and waited for her to follow. "The mission that I went on was not too interesting in all honesty."

Merliah put the Kunai in her dress pocket and walked next to him as they headed to the kitchen. "
It wasn't? What you have to do?"

"
Well, this is classified information and all. But I am sure you can keep secrets well." He then started to think about the parts of the mission that he would reveal to her. "I basically had to just collect a bunch of information by just observing. No stealing super secret items, no sabotaging giant enemy plans...it was just boring. In fact, I had to go out of my way to get that Kunai for you."

"
Awwww man that's to bad. I was hoping to here something epic but guess you can't always get fun missions. Thanks for getting me the Kunai even though you didn't have to."

"
It kinda makes sense doesn't it? I would get less dangerous missions because the wedding is coming up and...well...it'd suck if I died and got captured and all. From the looks of things I won't be getting too many missions for now so I had to make sure to get something for you." They arrived by the kitchen of the castle shortly. Kyros started to think about what he wanted to have, with him holding back on telling the chefs and waiting for Merliah.

"
Aw come on Kyros you aren't going to die on any missions." Merliah said dismissing the thought. "Though this wedding.....I wish it wasn't happening." Once they got to the kitchen Merliah started looking around to see what the chief had already started to make.

Kyros started to think about what Merliah said about the wedding. He himself was indifferent to the whole thing. It was quite uncomfortable that the people he was stealing from and spying on were soon to be his allies. He turned to the chef in order to ask for his food. "
I'd like bacon burnt black with some scrambled eggs. Oh- and a bun." Smelling all the food worked up his appetite. Besides, a good breakfast was key to having a productive day, at least for him. Kyros turned to Merliah to respond to her comment. "I mean the wedding happened too fast for me too. But why don't you want it to happen?"

Merliah looked down with her hands behind her back then turned her head looking at nothing in particular. "
Because of what happened to mom."

"
Oh...yeah..." Kyros was not the best at providing emotional support. But seeing his sister be anything other than the fun and energetic person that he knows her for was not something he liked. He then put his hand on her shoulder. "What happened to mom was indeed terrible. And it really is difficult to ally with the people who you've hated your whole life... I guess we just have to see this wedding through. It is Florian who is getting married after all. And as his family we gotta support him no matter what."

"
Yeah I know...." Merliah said and then she smiled. "Well anyway let's eat huh?!" She walked over to the cook. "Two pancakes for me please!"

"
Come on." He said as he walked out of the kitchen and towards a table for two in the sitting area. He the sat down and invited her to sit on front of him.

Princess Rui

Location: Horokoshi Castle, Garden | Interacting with: Shin ( Rusty of Shackleford Rusty of Shackleford ), Kora ( -robert- -robert- ) | Mentions: Florian ( SpiralErrant SpiralErrant )

Rui switched the little white cup of sake from a hand to another, listening to her brother's thoughts. She gulped the shot down, the burning sensation going down her now dry throat slowly. A long sigh escaped her lips. She was starting to mimic her brother. That wasn't good. She didn't want to be like an old man. "I always want you to be honest with me Shin," She said, locking eyes with him. "Thank you for telling me that." She appreciated his honesty and the fact that he shared his thoughts with her. After the war, she felt a growing distance between them. Hopefully they'd both come close again, just as they once were. Though she doubted that she and her family will never be the same after war.. She was hopeful that they would try. Family didn't leave each other after all.

"I'll be honest with you too," She started, pouring another cup for herself. Was she drinking too much already? It wasn't even noon yet. But it was raining and she had nothing better to do. "I can't help but feel betrayed. And my hatred for Ularekath is no less than before. Father and mother both died because of them. And Kora had fallen in love with the son of the enemy." Rui scoffed, taking another sip. "As much as I wish I was supportive about her wedding, I can't. If... If I had taken part in all the prettier, girlier things like Kora has. Do you think things would have turn out differently?" There she was again, thinking of the what ifs and the regrets. If she were to rewind time, she still would have chosen to fight. Maybe. As if she could influence who her elder sister fell in love with. "Probably not." She laughed, shaking her head and dismissing the thought. Shin had enough things to stress about already, he didn't need to add her wellbeing unto his plate.

As Rei approached them, she nodded at him in acknowledgement, giving him a small wave and a smile. Her usual smirk was plastered on her face again as an idea popped into her head. The princess turned towards her brother, and spoke loud enough for the samurai to hear as well. "Let's spar once the rain stops. It's been a while. What do you say? Rei would like the exercise too, wouldn't you Rei?"

Rui turned to face her sister who decided to join them, greeting her like usual and even made room for her to sit between them. When Kora had let her kimono hang over the edge, she teased her, "Tsk tsk Kora. A princess must never dirty her clothing. Or should I say Queen now?" Rui pulled and tucked her kimono away so it wouldn't ruin the pretty fabric. She gave her sister a warm smile, as graceful and poised as ever. Even her posture was perfect. While Rui was merely wearing a sarashi, binding her chest comfortably. They were on two sides of the spectrum for sure, but they were still sisters. "Would you like a sneaky morning drink, my queen?" She continued to tease. Maybe she drank a little too quickly. But she poured one for her sister and held it out to her.

"Tell me, are you sure you don't have the cooties?" Her eyes narrowed and a sly teasing smile on her face.

Ricardus Kron

Location: Ularekath's border | Interacting with: Bryce ( Rusty of Shackleford Rusty of Shackleford ) | Mentions:

Ricardus let out a loud yawn, not bothering to cover his mouth. He was on night shift just a few hours ago, and now here he was working again. If his mother were here, she'd reprimand him and smack him on the head for being so rude. Luckily he was far from her, all the way at the border of Ularekath and Horokoshi. He pulled the reins of his steed for it to slow down. Ricardus turned to look at Bryce behind him. Unlike him, he wasn't on night shift yesterday. Maybe he should put him on tonight, he snickered at the thought, but covered it up with a fake cough. "Slept well last night, Bryce?" A cocky smile on his face. Usually the smile would have struck the hearts of the maidens back in the capital, but all he got around here was eye rolling and unimpressed looks.

"Something on your mind?" The knight asked, his horse now next to his. They've returned from the capital just about a week ago, giving their reports and writing more paperwork than Ricardus could tolerate. He was glad that he was away from that now, but it might not be the same for his comrade.

Princess Kora

"I'm feeling a little rebellious today... pass the drink." With a slight smile on her face, Kora took hold of the glass filled with alcohol her sister held in her hands and took a small sip out of it. It wasn't usual for her to drink, the main reason being the prohibiton of her mother, but an occasional drink wouldn't hurt right? She had to admit, drinking definitely made her feel better, her sorrows and worries would fly away whenever she took a sip out of the devil's cup. Rui and alcohol went along beautifully, that was if you enjoyed a bundle of energy always ready to have fun. Kora and Rui were polar opposites of eachother, but as they say, opposites attract. "I missed spending time with you Rui..." Kora then proceeded to pull her sister into a tight hug.

After letting go of the hug, Kora turned to Shin. "How are you today, Shin? We haven't had the time to talk lately... I want to catch up with everything." Kora's relationship with Shin wasn't as big as the one with Rui. When she was little, Shin would help her make decisions, and Kora would seek advise from him. But when he began his training, the opportunities to talk to him started to decrease by the day. Nowadays she barely talks to him, but their sibling trust is still present. "I know we never talk much... but I still care about you very much." Similarly of what she did to Rui, Kora hugged Shin tightly.

"I know it has been difficult for you two... but..." Kora had been trying to avoid talking about her wedding with her siblings. It was clear that they were not exactly content with the idea of her marrying the prince of the enemy kingdom... but this talk could not be delayed any further. She took a deep breath and began talking. "... I know you don't like Florian very much... but I have to do this... for our kingdom... and for myself... please, I just want you to take care of Horokoshi once I leave... that's all I ask... well, that and one more thing." She turned to face Rui. "My dear sister... would you like to be my maid of honour?"

Shin
Crown Prince of Horokoshi

Shin gestured to his retainer, saying, "It's nothing. Take a seat." He smiled at his sister, saying, "Good morning, Sister. I trust you slept well." He bowed respectfully, as he was used to her being the next in line for the crown. He eventually gave in to his younger sister, saying, "Can I have some of that sake, sister?" He sipped slowly, saying, "Remember, do as I say, not as I do, Sister." He took a swig, stopping at his sister's question. "I'm...fine, Sister. How about you? How's the...wedding, going? I hope... it's..." He tried to hide his disdain for Florian in his tone, but he just couldn't. He hated that man. He drank his entire cup, trying to drown his hatred in sake. He asked for another, smiling at Kora as he said, "Regardless, I hope you're doing well, Sister." He placed his cup down, suddenly hugging Kora as he said, "Be happy. Don't let him end up like me. Promise me that, okay?" He hated Florian, yes, but he wanted Kora to be happy. Therefore, he wanted Florian to be happy by proxy. He nodded, saying, "I swear that I will do my best for Horokoshi. Now do your best for Ularekath." He almost vomited saying that, but he had to. It was her duty to serve Ularekath and her people.
