Caught in a storm
Gin awoke as a child. She had died. Atleast she thought she did. However she was a baby again. She can faintly see a presence moving towards her. She felt radiating energy from this person, although she couldn't make out the details of what they looked like.

"So you're the one whose been giving off this strange magical energy." A male voice said. Magic? That was a weird thing to say. Little did Gin know she had been born into a different world.

75edf4207907e53342875e598c7f021c.jpgToday was the day. Children from across the world had all been brought to the throne room. While some had already been accepted into the castle, many new faces had just arrived. Today was the day everyone turned 16. It was held within the castle which was lined with knights and officials including members of the society of stars. It did seem to take awhile for all the children to be found. Some were found early, like Gin, some arrived sometime later..

Aurelios was sitting in throne. He had fostered some of the chosen of the prophecy into the castle, it was better to have as many close by as possible, as he feared some might've not been ready. Still it was unfortunate he was unable to find them all. While today was the coming of age ceremony, everyone here probably already knew the real reason they had been brought together like this in secrecy. He didn't want to put children into danger like this, but going against a prophecy would doom everyone, that much he knew after many talks with advisors. Theo had made it clear that they were ready, but the idea of facing a demon lord wasn't something anyone could be ready for. He had grown to love the children around the castle. But he also had to be strong in-front of everyone.

Gin knew what news was to be brought today, Theo had been telling about today since she was seven years old. It was always something he brought up whenever Gin was behind on her studies. It was always something about how the demons wouldn't go easy on her. Or that she would die for making such a mistake. It kinda annoyed Gin but she knew he was simply preparing her for today. Everyone had made a big deal about how lucky she was that Theo himself took her on as an apprentice. They said Theo had never found anyone he thought was good enough. Gin however was pretty sure Aurelios had simply ordered Theo to do so, especially since she was already compatible to become an Archmage. And she excelled quite well throughout the years, impressing many. But standing infront of everyone, including her Master Theo was abit uncomfortable, especially how Theo never managed to make any expression.

"I'm sure many of you already know of the Prophecy. You've probably been told this before but every 1000 years, the Demon Lord Oobaru is ressurected from the valley of darkness. He summons portals to another plane and brings demons to try to take over this world. This time is abit different. After the last time a Prophecy was foretold by the Goddess A'mir that stated that children from another world, not of Ark'nos would arrive and defeat the Demon Lord once and for all, ending this cycle of death. You're all going to be in charge of fighting off the demon waves, one will happen exactly one month from today, as it has been every time Oobaru has risen."

"You'll go from city to city making sure everywhere is prepared for the invasion. You may have to split up at times to cover more ground, but know that the places you choose to protect may very well be the last remnants of society left over after everything is over. You'll be on your own from here out. I bid you goodluck. I'm sure you all want to introduce yourselves to eachother so feel free to do so, when everyone is ready we will discuss preparations for your journey." Aurelios finished.

Every since Teppo passed that gate he had felt uncomfortable and now that he was being led around in a chaotic waltz he was becoming quite annoyed, though his escorts may not have noticed it with them being so busy trying to figure out where he was supposed to be, or rather he thought where they had meant for his master whom he was taking the place of to be. The truth turned out to be quite outside his expectations however as he was finally left in a room full of others before a throne upon which he assumed was the ruler of this land. It was announced that they were all supposedly children of a prophecy, the detail of them coming from another world of which led it some undeniable credibility. What concerned him more than the mention of demons was that they were said to be summoned from another world. If portals could be opened to bring things in, maybe they could be used to let things out. Waves of demons was still concerning on its own however, the forest would have to be sealed off somehow to protect it, but this man and his kind likely expected him to prioritize their cities and castles over his and his master's home. His master wouldn't hesitate to shoot such a thing down, even if she was no friend to demons herself, but he had nowhere near her power to support such defiance. This really was quite grating.

He had no choice but to cooperate, but how was he supposed to go about introducing himself to so many strangers? If it weren't for a single familiar face he could make out among the crowd, he might have spent the whole time of intermingling hopelessly lost. "I remember you. I don't believe we had introduced ourselves that time. I am Teppo and apprentice to The Witch of the Forest. Pleased to meet you, again." He had met the lavender haired girl some time ago when she had wandered too close to his and his master's territory on her way somewhere else. His master had already left by that time but according to her will he had confronted and warned the girl away, quite gently compared to how he would have treated her if she hadn't seemed harmless. All that remained would be to get her name in return and their introduction would be complete, though repeating himself however many times he had to still wasn't going to be much easier. Maybe he could count everyone nearby as having heard him and save himself some work.

Fenrir hung onto every word Aurelios said making sure not to miss anything. Fenrir knew this day was coming for a while, it's what he's been preparing for since he left the orphanage all those years ago. When Aurelios finished, Fenrir tilted his head at his peers he had grown up with, taking in their expressions, and curiously scanned the faces of the individuals he didn't recognize. Fenrir was placed at the far right of the group of kids where his height wouldn't block anyone's sight. Fenrir honestly didn't know what to expect when leaving the castle, he had imagined many scenarios of varying grandeur and mediocrity, but none seemed too realistic. The uncertainty of it all made him restless with excitement, although it wouldn't show on his face. The feeling always reminds him of the day he came to castle and met everyone for the first time, and the movies he'd used to watch back when he was 'Arthur'.

'I wonder who I'll end up grouped with.. Most of them might already have an idea of who they plan on venturing with.' Fenrir thought to himself a little worried, he enjoyed the other kid's company.. most of the time, but he wasn't particularly close with any of them. Fenrir spent most of his free time in solitary, enjoying a book or drawing something out in nature. Most times where Fenrir saw or interacted with the other kids was during mealtime or training. Fenrir wondered if the other kids resented him. Perhaps they find his appearance unsettling, like the others Fenrir met before them, or perhaps Fenrir is just bad at connecting with others and missed his opportunities. Fenrir pushed away his self-conscious thoughts and focused on Aurelios and the others in the room, waiting for something to happen.

Aaron woke on the roof of the Morningstar Castle North Eastern Tower. He let out a big yawn and uncurled from his spot in the high open air. He stood and stretch with a bit of a sigh. His tail shook out, unraveling some of the matted fur from his slumber. Nice and warm from bathing in the morning sun, he brushed himself off and moved to the edge of the roof.

He sighed to himself. Every night Aaron had the same dream. Back in the old world, back when he lived in a life of wealth, lavishness, and as many things to deconstruct and rebuild as he wanted. An heir to a tycoon. The end was a shock. He couldn’t remember much of his own final moments. He had gotten a text from a friend of his and as he replied, he noticed a shadow had eclipsed him...he couldn’t even look up to see what it was before his soul...or consciousness...or whatever it was woke up here in this world...Ark’nos. A world of magic over technology. Of humans, elves and so many other races. Aaron brushes his tail as he thought about his start to this world. A kin to bandits and a scavenger. He didn’t hide his past, but he wasn’t open with it either. His thoughts trailed as a long precession pathed from the gates of the castle to the middle of the town. At first, he was confused before the realization donned on him. Right, he thought, it’s that day. He pulled the invitation from his pocket, the one that summoned him for his ‘coming-of-age’ ceremony. He walked off the edge and fell a couple feet before catching the ledge and swinging in, rolling the fall off before hopping to his feet and heading to the throne room.

Aaron’s eyes always found the ceilings when he entered big rooms. How much room, he thought, for such a singleminded space. The stained glass lined the ceiling, the morning light bringing rainbows across the walls. He stood next to Gin, the girl he’d first met in the castle and the the one who had told him of his supposed ‘destiny’, not that he really believed in all that. He gave the young archmage a wink and a smirk before he turned and looked at the many people who had gathered along with them. Princesses, guards, princes, and merchants. There were many he knew and many he didn’t. He waved to both Luna and Bast, two people he hadn’t seen in a while, but were still welcome sights. He nodded to the princess and her guardian and finally he turned to the king who had begun to address everyone.

You're all going to be in charge of fighting off the demon waves, one will happen exactly one month from today, as it has been every time Oobaru has risen." said so the King. Aaron gave a quiet sigh under his breath. The Goddess and her so called plan. The demon lord and his hordes of demons. Fighting a war. Ending a ‘cycle’. So much to do and only a month to prep. That’s all we’re given? Aaron sighed again, his tail dropping a little as he listened further.

You'll go from city to city making sure everywhere is prepared for the invasion. City to city, thought Aaron. Does that mean I have to go back to Azazad? To Vilisimus? He shuddered at the thought. Though his home, the grand southern desert had little to be desired. If he must, he would, however since he’d heard of this ‘prophecy’, he had decided to attend with the one who’d led to his home here in Morningstar.

Scathach raised her head once more as the clattering wagon continued cutting its path towards the Capital of a distant kingdom, the tall girl sat leaning against one of its supports with one arm over a knee and the other hooked around the shaft of her ax as she turns to regard her escort once more with a resigned expression. They had said it was important to reach the capital in time for her sixteenth summer which made her assume that speed was going to be important, but the escourt had seemed insistent on needing the wagon to travel along the main roads, around the forests and hills with prolonged stops. He had not taken kindly to her earlier comments regarding the efficiency of the route, seemingly unwilling to travel on foot, and even offended when she said she could just as well carry him if a few hundred miles was that big an issue.

Never the less she learned to open the canvas flap again slightly to peer outside, her previous furs already discarded to the side as the heat continued to rise as they headed further south, the muddy track and dull forest starting to make way for the cobbled road. She hadn't really needed to look for the last part, the constant rattling noise and bouncing made that more than clear as well as that the concept of suspension was a bit too foreign a concept for the builders of the sturdy vehicle. As the days went by forest gave way to planes which then gave way to a slowly increasing number of buildings, a great wall, gates, and then finally a palace, the number of onlookers also increasing as time went on. She could overhear several making comments on the street as she passed, some people thinking a large number of new children were arriving, others assuming it was packed goods for the ceremony by how heavy-laden the vehicle sounded as it went along the street.

Fast forward an hour or so later and she had been escorted into a somewhat flashy throne room to listen to some unfamiliar man about a demon invasion, the longer he talked the more she could only sigh raising a hand to her forehead while mumbling something to herself. She really was content with her new life until now, but they just had to throw in an apocalyptic demonic invasion since that would be just too easy otherwise. Looking around the room idly she also wondered if there was going to be a fancy banquet or something, she hadn't really been able to roast anything for the past few days and had to get by on the smaller travelling rations for the most part so could really go for some food.

When the man had finally stopped speaking she turns back to him for a moment and opens her mouth "Emperor, King, High Priest...I'm sorry I never really did get your title, but a few things on all that" idly gesturing with her hand as she speaks "Well two in particular on the demon, devils, daemons, bad things etcetera, Firstly is there any way of actually knowing were these Portals are going to show up? I mean this kingdom alone a bit oversized and it's not exactly a few minutes jog between the settlements...they way you were talking it's like they could raise a city in a few hours let alone the few days it would take to get to the place you know?" shifting her weight once more as she speaks slow and relaxed "Secondly, I mean unless this big bad guy an idiot what's to stop him just dropping a few small portals across the farmlands and waiting for Winter? The entire raising defenses thing just sounds like buying time really and being well...defensive, Isn't there any way to just go to this Valley of Darkness directly or open a reverse portal or something?....oh and before I forget, Will there be any Vitals served for this Ceremony/Meeting? Kind of got used to having big important talks like this around a fire over a meal"

It was a rather early morning in the kingdom of Morningstar. A bit too early for Luna's comfort. The sun was slipping in through the curtains of the inn which eventually got her to wake herself up. Usually she would still be sleeping in at this time but she apparently had some important meeting to attend at the castle. For some reason. At first she thought that she might've trespassed while walking around late at night and was in trouble for it once again, but the Knights that came to get her didn't seem too treat her like some criminal. Only escort her to the palace. When she finally arrived there, there were already quite a few other people present. Most were people she didn't know but she was able to pinpoint a few faces she had seen before, such as Aaron, who she saw waving over to her and then waved back to him. One of her favorite customers here in Morningstar. She wondered where he lived in the city. Was it in the palace?

As the king explained why they here she began to question how that was going to work. If the king or knights couldn't take the demons down how were all of them supposed to take them on? Well- she didn't know how strong the others were. But she didn't see herself being able to do much. Not yet at least. She heaved a sigh and began looking around at the other people she'd be working with soon. They all seemed pretty interesting to her. There were a few Demi-Human species she had never seen before currently present. She'd definitely wanna ask them what species they were eventually.

But now the hard part was here. Starting a conversation. Was she just supposed to walk up to someone and tell them her name? She probably was. But that wad such a weird way to start off a conversation- she didn't think she'd be able to do it without embarrassing herself. Fortunately, he problems were solved when someone approached her to initiate her first conversation. She whirled around to face who addressed her a quickly recognized the man with the witch hat and the long hair. She gave a smile when he introduced himself and nodded. "I remember you as well. Sorry again for intruding on your forest. Had I known I wasn't allowed I would've tried to go around it." She explained with a sheepish chuckle. "It's nice to meet you Teppo. My name is Luna. I travel with a family of merchants. I didn't expect to meet you again at the castle." She explained within her introduction with a light chuckle. It was nice to see this witch again. He seemed to be pretty nice when they encountered each other a while ago. Especially when she was almost trespassing, she didn't really have good experiences when she got caught bring somewhere she wasn't supposed to be. Nevertheless, it was great that she, at least, got involved with one conversation. And hoped others would be as easy as this one. She highly doubted it though.

Innuo Haruta
4C7AB0D6-5C00-449F-8A77-43DDBEE5E555.jpeg
The droning creak of an old wooden door attempted its best effort to rouse the sixteen year old from his slumber, it was ineffective though to jostle the boy from his dreams.
Bright lights that glowed different vibrant colors and twisted in ways to form words for signs above shops. Beggars doing performances in the streets, and people just humans mundanely moving about in huge swaths on small roads right next to the actual roads. He remembered, this was city life before... His next fantasies involving him sitting a top a throne of gold as the sisters in training gathered around him commenting how strong and handsome he was and many shouting for his love and praise.

“Well of course sisters but we mustn’t it goes against your vows....but I can’t turn you away”
“YOU FILTHY DEMON CHILD!”
The retort reverberated into his psyche disturbing his absolutely wonderful dream.
His eyes slowly opened only to be greeted by three rather agitated nuns their cheeks reddened like the cherry tomatoes they harvested in early summer.
Then came the dreaded thwack of the broom.

“Wait!!, what did I do?! Stop hitting meeeeee!!!!”
The women of the cloth beating him senseless as they chanted to repent his evil ways.
Innuo would attempt to clasp his hands together in prayer and pray the sins away but it was always the same.
“Now hurry and wash we have to head to the castle”

“Yes sister right away”
Innuo would do anything these women wanted regardless of the task, they raised him, fed him, clothed him, and more importantly they never gave up on his humanity.
After eating a paltry meal of oats and fruit the head priest and an entourage of nuns lead Innuo out towards the castle. Starting today he would no longer live there. This spurned gossip from the younger more inexperienced nuns. Words of gratitude to the goddess that their trials and tribulations had come to an end.

“Was it really that bad?”
“Of course it was!”
The trio of girls emphasized in unison.
This in turn caused Innuo to feel a little melancholic and let his shoulders hang low in defeat.
But the Mothers hand patting his shoulder brought him back to a proud stance a warm smile cast her way in thanks before facing the rest of the trek to the castle.
The others did all wish him the best and asked him to stay out of trouble but it was the Mothers words that stuck with him even as he now stood amongst the group of other children from another world.
“Use these hands my son, protect others and protect this world but make sure you come home”
The selfish wish at the end of her words was so unlike the head nun to utter.
His thoughts were shaken to the current situation as the king started his speech which sounded more like a grandiose quest for a holy sword and grail.
Except the grail was a demon king...and they had to beat the shit outta him.
I mean that was the gist of it anyways, the rest sounded less important.
Others were already clinging together in groups but of course groups were not really Innuo’s thing.
At least not until his other side burst forward and then anything was fair game.
Scathach was the first to speak making some arguably good points about defenses and how the demon king could basically create these portals on strategic places and ensure the races demise.
Innuo wanted to speak especially to a goddess made real before him, her stature and muscles expanding the scope of his attention as he edged closer but the muddled red his eyes began to exude was forced back to there evergreen state.

“The king has already.....conscripted the order to handle such... necessities ....umm....barriers will be placed on .....Uhhh.....certain strategic points to ensure their safety .......but they will be stretched thin ......and in the case the portal...uhm.... is stronger than their magic that’s ......where we come in”
His words not strongly spoken at all but at least enough for the boy to be heard by others.
After he would don his hold of his priests robe to hide his embarrassment for speaking out to answer her question before the king had to.

Vespa Baltize
It was another day for the young hopeful to get monster tamer, walking to the castle at the behest of his father, Morgan Baltize. Upon him was a task laid down, penned in writ upon the coming day. Pulling out the letter adressed to him, he opened once again, rereading the contents to be clear of what was asked of him.

'To my faithful son,

Today marks the day where the kingdom summons its children at thec age of 16, be it in the few or the many. What I have already sent is a permission to enter the castle where the due process of finding the most talented in D'irk to be at the forefront against darkness.

I do realize that this will be a hard, if not daunting, task for you given how you have nothing tamed under your name, but fret not. For it is in these coming ceremony that if you are selected, surely more light can be shone amongst our class, and draw forth individuals met with the spark of ambition.

Today, my child, you must succeed whereas I failed so many years ago. I already sent word out, so getting in shouldn't be the problem. You carry all our hopes back in the guild, and I know you'll see it through.

With nervous pride, Morgan Baltize'

Pocketing the letter once more, he sighed as he continued on his trek along the paved road to the castle, where markets were in full boom on the occasion, fashioning their tongues for getting the most out of the products they line up.

On occasion, Vespa would buy such a trinket now and again, but refrained from doing so as he made sight of the iron gates guarded by royal knights. Standing before them, Vespa would speak to them.

"Vespa Baltize, present for the ceremony."

The royal guards only stood to the side as one of them motioned for the gate to open. The iron clasps of the gateway held sturdy as the path was raised enough to allow entry. Proceeding through he managed to find the main corridor where the event was taking place, and stood before the gathered crowd as the ceremony was underway.

Kira stood by the princess's side during the ceremony. She kept her promise to the king to keep his daughter safe. Kira has rarely left the princess by herself for too long, except when she needed her privacy. Kira knew what she and the princess were, she somehow knew the princess at a personal level before ever saying a word to her. Kira still needed to learn more however. Until then, she would wait and do as the king and princess said.

Aurelios looked up to one of the girls who had spoken up.
"King is fine. While we could go directly to the valley of darkness, facing all the demons guarding the place would be too difficult. It's better to strain their numbers until Oobaru is forced to reveal himself. We also have to consider the innocent lives that are at risk every moment they're not prepared for invasion. As for where the portals appear, that is something you'll have to figure out. I'm not aware of where they may appear. You'll receive food and supplies.

Another child had spoken up. Aurelios recognized him as one of the children raised by nuns.
"We currently already are sending forces to protect different areas but we don't have the numbers to protect the entire world, nor can I intervene with the direct confrontation of Oobaru too much.
I'll try to have our archmages place barriers where they can, but if you message the kingdom for help then I can divert some forces to go after you."
"At the end of things I hope we can get rid of this demonic cycle once and for all."

Bast had been stopped by what appeared to be a group of men and women dressed rather well for the area that they where currently in. Escorts they called themselves, they could see that the fur on the demi-humans tail was raised , and just telling her to come with them wasn't an option. Bast was already on high alert , she couldn't recall anything she had done as of recent to warrant a small group of armed guards. Hell she just arrived in this land!

At first Bast refused to cooperate, but they argued had she not left her family that they wouldn't of had to go through all of the trouble to find her and essentially drag her back to Morning-star. As if that was her problem , If it wasn't obvious enough Bast didn't want to be found by anyone. However the fact that she had been sought out so extensively did intrigue her.

After stringing the scouts on for what seemed like a few hours , Indulging herself in her normal routine , Bast finally agreed to come. If she hadn't already made them aggravated by wasting their time with her frivolity.

Making her way to the wagon that would lead her to the castle of Morning star was nothing short of an annoyance , Bast knew of the stories , the prophecies , the accounts made that this land was in extreme danger , but you would think that for the 999 years of peace since the last demon attack that the leaders of this country would have a game plan , for how many mages and men of intellect none of them had come up or even had ideas to keep the people safe while also dealing with a threat so severe.

Bast tail flicked back and forth , as she clicked her tongue. "This shit is annoying" she muttered.

While this body was still young and spry , her spirit , her soul was that of an adult , 32 years of experiences and teachings and Bast felt like she was the only "adult" here.

Arriving to the Morning star kingdom she made her way inside the grand halls , ignoring the questions of the guards and the odd looks of the maids and butlers who served the royalty that lived here. Her ears picking up chatter even from the entrance , Bast knew she didn't arrive exactly on time , but she could catch the end of what he was saying , which was already what she had assumed.

The Demon Lord Oobaru has already amassed his troops and is planning to send them post haste. Although she did wonder why did he just send them earlier? Whats the point of giving us all of this downtime? Maybe Oobaru just thinks so little of the people who reside in this world that he does not worry about any countermeasures.

Bast came in just in time to see Aaron acknowledge her presence , in which she nodded her head at him.

"Your majesty , has your family not had over 900 years to effectively create and distribute safety measures across your land , have you not had discussions with any other world leaders on how to keep your people safe? This prophecy foretold by us is great and all , but do you truly expect us to carry a burden this severe?" Her tone was harsh and rude , especially coming from someone who was speaking to THE king.

"To do things so last minute , is really irresponsible." Bast tail was thrashing around. Maybe things where becoming too real for her but she had enough of being forced to fill in a role she didn't want to.

She looked at the blonde hair and green-eyed boy who could barely speak coherent enough for her to understand. She scowled before addressing almost everyone in the room. "I came here, through no will of my own mind you, and I'm surprised none of you aren't more concerned, You all who are being told that you HAVE to-No, that you NEED to risk your life, and keep in mind we have all already died, our worlds thrown right out from under our feet, our normality gone never to exist again, we need to risk our lives because the world leaders, the kings and queens, the monarchies haven't devised a plan to protect the people that they take their money from and use to monopolize their luxurious lives." she scanned the room before continuing her speech.

''This isn't some manga that we pick up from our local comic stores back in earth. This is our real lives, and if I am expected to just waltz up in the heat of a war then I need to know I'm not carrying on my back the most incompetent people in this world." Bast ears where turned back as well as her brows furrowed. She hoped she wasn't the only person not stupid enough to just accept what was happening to them.

Aaron listened to them all go back and forth quietly. He watched the group with relative interest. All of them had come from another world, he pondered quietly. How many of them had he possibly known in his previous life, Aaron knew not, yet he could not stop his thoughts from wandering about the possibilities. He stretched softly, his tail unfurling from beneath his cloak softly. He brushed it and grinned as he gained the acknowledgement of the peers he did know, yet as his acquaintance, Bast, began voicing her rather one-sided opinions, the young desert fox could not keep himself still.

"I came here, through no will of my own mind you, and I'm surprised none of you aren't more concerned, You all who are being told that you HAVE to-No, that you NEED to risk your life, and keep in mind we have all already died, our worlds thrown right out from under our feet, our normality gone never to exist again, we need to risk our lives because the world leaders, the kings and queens, the monarchies haven't devised a plan to protect the people that they take their money from and use to monopolize their luxurious lives." she had said as she looked around, ''This isn't some manga that we pick up from our local comic stores back in earth. This is our real lives, and if I am expected to just waltz up in the heat of a war then I need to know I'm not carrying on my back the most incompetent people in this world."

A soft glow resonated from the Aaron as he stepped out of the line and behind the group, walking up to the feline warrior from behind...as a mirror image of herself. Bast could feel an arm drape across her shoulders and would find only a reflection of herself in return. In her voice, magicked to appear as her with his Illusion spell, Aaron showed Bast her own cocky grin, "Oh, quite the contrary, my lovely cat burglar friend. Is this not the sheer definition of the fantasies we once read? Perhaps, yes, our lives are on the line, however, when in a world where all things may, in fact, be possible, is it not so believable to see truth in your own denial? I will admit, the apparent lack of preparations seem a bit...off-putting, however the Morningstar Kingdom, whilst wealthy tis true, is but a city-state in form. Most villages have their own chiefs or mayors and most of those mayors seek only their villages' safety."

He pulls away, dropping the illusion to bow in front of her, "It is quite interesting to see you again, Bast. I hope your trip here was comfortable enough." Aaron stands straight, his ears appearing out of their normal illusion to perk up a little, "Now, before you go judging a king, his holy people, and his actions, you must see the whole picture. This isn't like our world. There aren't nations, there are towns and cities. There isn't a singular government at work, but many." His ever-present smirk resided on his lips, "As for our world pulled 'right out from under our feet', I must say, I'd much rather this than heaven, don't you? There's no way to know save the goddess herself about whether our arrival here was truly ordained...or merely happenstance. So please calm your anger, halt your tongue, and try to see the whole picture, hmm?"

Things had certainly turned lively in short order, and it was a bit difficult to keep track of it all, but the protests certainly stood out. The first, raised by a giant of a woman, was addressed it seemed, but the second felt it demanded his own take."If so little has been done so far then I must agree that those trusted to lead their people have utterly failed. But this is a threat to everyone regardless, and I can plainly see that Sisu is something you lack. We will succeed against the odds or we will die trying, and that kind of death is beautiful." He bit his tongue before he responded to the remarks of the other who had something to say to the beast-woman's words and instead sighed heavily before speaking further on the other matter. "Any further idleness just makes our odds worse. I'd suggest devoting everything to preparing a defense and advising the other peoples of this world to do the same." He then finally returned his attention to Luna. "I had never expected to be in a castle myself. If we survive this, perhaps we can have dealings just outside the forest." He tried to force a smile to seem more welcoming, but it wasn't like him so he ended up maintaining a more neutral expression.

"If I am to know how to best apply myself, I need to know what we lack. Someone or something quick should tell people to congregate here and destroy what they cannot carry in case the demons might use it against us. If everyone is here, we may have the privilege of letting craftsmen focus on wartime production while professional fighters take what arms are available, and we will have less to defend. We will also have less resources of course. If mounted forces can harry the demons every step of the way here and then retreat into the safety of the walls, we will have made the best of the odds. That is my take.." He had started with a strong, authoritative tone but as he reached the end of his proposal, his voice had died down and he ended up stepping back behind some other bodies somewhat sheepishly. Truthfully his own outburst embarrassed him, but it would have been worse to suddenly cut himself short after he started. He was no expert on war but certainly doing something with a plan was better than the sitting and waiting the leaders of this world stood accused of and seemed from his limited perspective guilty of. " If anyone else has suggestions, share them, Please" He said after loosening the tightness in his throat in an attempt to encourage someone to draw attention away from his own and maybe get the ball rolling towards an actual plan.

Aubrum had been listening to the others argue back and forth from up in the rafters. Roger sat next to him and chewed a bone that Aubrum had pulled out of his magic bag. Earlier the two had separated from Aunt Lorelai at the request of King Aurelios, who had his guards bring Aubrum to the castle. Although something had occurred to halt their entry to the castle. So Aubrum got bored and wandered off with Roger happily walking behind him. Exploring the gardens, Aubrum had smelt something good. Noticing it was coming from a second story window, Aubrum used his claws to scale the wall. Looking into a window, he found a kitchen with dozens of staff prepping food. Eventually he would watch them make their way out, presumably to feed somebody. Turning into a flock of bats, he entered the kitchen. Scattered across the room was food of varying appearances and sizes. Without thinking, Aubrum immediately began eating whatever he could find. Although he made sure to clean his hands first, as his Mama had always taught him.

When he found his way into the rafters of the throne room, he saw the King explaining the situation to the group. Something about the Demon King rising and trying to take over the world. It sounded like some pretty heavy stuff. Although Aubrum admittedly didn't quite comprehend a lot of what they were saying. Why couldn't people just talk to the demons and get along with them? Aubrum had met the odd demonic beast while living in the Forest of Death and they could be really nice. Yet Aubrums Mama had warned him not to reveal he was Dhampir to anyone he didn't trust. Apparently a lot of vampires had sided with the Demon King and done a bunch of bad stuff. So Aubrum was to drink blood or use his blood magic out of sight. Biting into a loaf of bread, Aubrum choked on piece of it and dropped the remaining loaf. It fell down from the rafters.....nearing King Aurelios's head...

Fenrir normally didn't share his opinions on things but when he heard the Bast question his competence, it irritated him, so he made an exception. "You should realise how precious life is more so than most considering you've experienced losing yours first hand. Now when a great loss of life is being threatened you act like peacocks in heat trying to flaunt your feathers of intellectual superiority." Fenrir says in a monotone, but fierce voice, before continuing on: "I remember dieing in the previous world with my heart filled with fear and regret. My last thoughts were 'I want to live, there's so much I want to do. I'm sorry mother, I've let you down..' Then.. I was given a second chance at life, here in this world. I've decided to fight to protect others, regardless of the irresponsibility of leadership, regardless of whether or not it's my duty to my own destiny to be a hero. I will fight because I want to pay forward the second chance I got in this life to men, woman, and children who are scared like I was when I died and needed a hero. Do not judge my competence with your selfish ideals." He says. "And you." Fenrir says turning towards Aaron, "It's true that there is a bigger picture involved and that you shouldn't prematurely judge the situation before having all the information, but your excessive arrogance makes that fact seem incredibly unappetizing to someone you're trying to convince." Fenrir says folding his 6 arms across his chest. "Let's stop talking about what should've been done and start discussing what we can do now to save as many lives as possible." Fenrir finishes.

Scathach herself had chosen to sit on the many benches lining the side of the room, the wood creaking as she does so while removing her axe and casually spinning its tip against the floor while the others took their turn to speak as her eye flutters between each in turn. Some attempted to reason or justify the king's wisdom, others seemed acutely aware of the fact it appeared to have been nearly a millennia of time of potential preparation wasted in favour of heavens only knows what. She has strangely relaxed all things considered, especially for someone informed just a few moments ago a demonic war was on the horizon yet she simply continued to listen calmly as if the king had instead asked them to go on a generic fetch quest.

Though the more she listened the more leaned back, the conversation becoming more heated, a few bits of blame thrown and then peacocking about peacocking with a bit of edge thrown in for good measure, this really was going to be quite the chaotic bunch she could already tell. With a slow sigh, she decides to speak up again "Yare Yare Daze, Everyone seems to be confusing the night sky for the stars reflected in a pond." taking a moment to regard each, a faint smile across her lips "Getting worked up like this really isn't going to help anything, Don't quote me but I'm fairly sure the track record for good decisions are in favor of when someones unstressed and relaxed" offering her hand out in a slow gesture as the other keeps the weapon balanced.

"So how about instead...we get some food and drink in here, sit down....well for those not already sitting, and pretty much make a list of what we know we know, what we know we don't know and ideas on how to fix that....oh and if were lucky we can ever get some wisdom rained upon us for what we don't know we don't know and how to fix that too"

"So, this is the place."

Skadi walks in to greet the others. The traits one would notice almost immediately - the trident on her back and the horn on her head.

"There is a sense of familiarity here."

The footsteps of her bare feet were light, nonexistent even. As she neared, it was more apparent that her hair wrapped around her as if they were silken clothes.

"I am one of the few who have been summoned here by the king. I am the one who bears the name Skadi, Skadi of the Ocean Goddess Tribe. It is a pleasure to meet all of you."

She listens to the words of others, most notably Scathach's.

"That is a good idea. We should refresh ourselves with food and beverage while making ourselves familiar with each other. If fate has tasked us with cooperating, then that is important. As for how I view all of this - the women of the Ocean Goddess Tribe are a warrior race. We train and pass tactics down for moments such as this one. I'm well-prepared for this."

"And I am Vespa Baltize, son of Morgan Baltize of the Tamers based here in D'irk." The young man replied, looking about the group as Scathach's word rang throughout. "As for her comment, sparring would be ideal for warming up before any major battles as well, though not to the extent of overwearing and straining ourselves."

With the facts laid down before them, the young son grimaced a little. "I may not be the proudest achievement in my father's life currently, but if asked I will do as I can to protect what's important, as a human that risks life and limb bringing us closer to understanding the biological creatures that inhabits our world."

Remembering the comment about a past life from Fenrir, he added onto his little speech.

"I cannot remember my past life, but something in my heart tells me I have retained some of what made me previously. Whether it is how I act or how I perform is of debate. What I do know is that if we are to succeed, all must do their part to be ready and willing to ensure our future is one many generations ahead of us prosper in, lest we give into darkness and see ruin."

Gin had decided to speak up.
"I think it's believable that not everyone in this world could be fully prepared for war. Nobody is always fully prepared for war. Our own world hadn't prepared for anything people told them to. Not disease. Not starvation, not pollution and not war. It's in people's nature to hold off on things until it's too late. But King Aurelios has been preparing forces since he became king. He formed the Society of Stars, placing my own master as it's leader. He's doubled efforts on training knights. We shouldn't fault him too much for being unable to convince other world leaders."

At the very least Gin wanted to vouch for the king if nobody would. Just as she was speaking others began to arrive.
"Hello friends of friends. Vespa Baltize, son of Morgan Baltize, Skadi of the Ocean Goddess Tribe."
Two newcomers had arrived, one who didn't seem to wear clothes but rather hair across her body and another who seemed to be a monster tamer.
Perhaps everyone here could get to know eachother better during the journey, it did feel like some people had different opinions than others.

Aurelios appreciated the Young Archmage.
"We'll have a quick meal before heading off. I think It'll be better for everyone to leave on an empty stomache. I know some of you have concerns but there wouldn't be danger if everything could be planned and accounted for. We cannot figure out how the portals work or where they will be placed. I'm sure some world leaders have made their preparations but even I'm not powerful enough to reach every corner of the world."
Aurelios had heard news of different efforts across the world to deal with the war, although he was sure some had their own intentions to benefit from the war. He had contacted some world leaders and had urged them to prepare but not everyone was willing to.
When a piece of bread had hit Aurelios in the head he had noticed the stranger hiding in the rafters.
"I see we're all hungry so why don't we get the cooks to get something for us." He spoke up, standing up.

JIN

❝ In the Castle Hall ❞

The boy sat idlily in his seat, waiting. He was almost accustomed to the castle, but this room always sat uncomfortably between familiar and far-away. He was only ever inside it when he made some sort of mistake or was being shown off in front of other mages and students, as was common among the less spectacular students. Jin’s eyes wandered slowly over the heads around him. There were the more important people like Gin—The girl who had the same name as him.

The Emperor spoke and his voice boomed through Jin’s ears. He wasn’t used to this kind of speech, and it was rare he even got to get near to someone that important. Nonetheless he understood he that was just one of many children assembled. His journey would likely end in some quant little town where he would wait until someone whose name was meant for a storybook would vanquish Oobaru. That’s how it always went.

The idea of a feast was a welcome change. It delayed leaving, which was something Jin dreaded. Morningstar was home despite all its thorns. As all manner of commotion was boiling up around him Jin found it hard to pay attention. He’d rather spend his time thinking of what he would say to his parents. Regardless, his life would be changing dramatically in only a few hours.

Interjections continued until the king and one of the others by his side spoke again. Perhaps they had been unfair in the severity of their criticisms but it certainly sounded like a potentially world changing threat so emotions were bound to run high. Teppo at least found himself reassured that this king had been active in preparing since obtaining the title. A light meal would keep them light on their feet, or at least that sounded like the intent. They would grab their sustenance and then they would be setting off to try to brace the civilized world against this crisis. Despite the determination he had found, he was under no illusions that this was still a very tall order, especially for a band of people who were largely at the cusp of adulthood at best. But other reasons than fighting for the survival of the non-demonic peoples and their kingdoms may have been more important to him and the weighing of those reasons now occupied his full attention.

Human beings, and perhaps all life was inherently and deeply selfish. Both good and evil things could be done for selfish reasons and it wasn't wrong in itself to embrace ones selfish nature, and furthermore he at least believed it plenty possible to consciously reject the selfish drives one feels at any time to do what they know is right. But some situations were not so simple, in fact the question of ethics and morality and choices and natures became exponentially complex the more you branch from any related thought. Did he have an obligation to this world? To these people? Would it be wrong to pursue matters closer to his heart above them all, at their expense even? He didn't have a connection to many people, and bonds of love only to his mentor who was like a second mother to him. There was no way he could decide what he should do without more information about what he could do, what options existed for him. But if he could, he would at least offer her the chance to come with him, assuming he ever saw her again.

But for now, he would eat his fill and join the fight.

Kayne froze, staring blankly from across the table at the girl who seemed unfazed by the shift in atmosphere. His wife awkwardly looked between them, their kids held their breath, and Ulfred stayed silent--then again, he hadn't even glanced away from his plate since they arrived.

She knew this would happen. Kayne was the most passionate about it since he found out, and kept insisting that once she got older she'd change her mind about her choice. She knew walking into this family dinner that he'd give that same reaction, because he of all people knew just how much of an impact one person could make when serving their country. He was pretty strict and conservative about those sort of things, the type who felt that one of the best ways to live life was by protecting the people around you.

Once she dismissed it with such a lighthearted manner, the girl already knew the storm that would come. It'd be dark and heavy, and it'd uproot trees and leave roofs in the sky to vanish forever. It would flood every inch of ground until it felt like her arms were sore from swimming. It'd thunder and boom until every sound other sound around them vanished. It'd send her forward, straight out of her seat, and down from the sky.

Kayne nodded, eyes glazing over for a moment. Then, he looked back up with a awkward smile and asked her to pass the potatoes.

It was every bit as painful as she expected it to be.

"Umm..."

Esther looked around the room sheepishly, her hand raised in the air in request for their attention. Her eyes were wide with the attention she had when she first decided to stand back and observe the discussion for a bit.

It was too bad that they couldn't continue this conversation and maybe befriend each other. After all, she was curious to know about their experience, to ask them about internal conflicts questions they might have already solved, to see if they shared similar cravings from the other world after getting their memories. Maybe they could even find out why they were chosen for this specifically.

However, given her plans--or lack of thereof--it probably wouldn't go too smoothly. She figured it was best to make this quick and not waste anyone's time, especially Papa's. He was waiting for her at the shop, probably nervous and taking out his grumpiness on the costumers.

"Well, before you all leave for a meal, I think I should just tell you this now." Esther looked to the King nonchalantly but with an apologetic smile, as if she were letting him know that he forgot to take out the pickles from her burger.

"I won't be participating," the girl said. "Sorry for the inconvenience, but, uh--I'm sure you can find another sorcerer in no time. This demon slaying business just isn't my thing."

Briefly, Esther glanced to the others, shrugging slightly. "Well, it's a shame that this meeting had to be cut short, but good luck! Maybe we'll run into each other sometime in the future~"

The Post!
As more and more people entered she couldn't help but wonder just how many people were summoned to fight these demons. And while everything seemed to be running kinda smoothly, the flow was interrupted by a familiar face, whose name she hasn't gotten before, with a rather angry tone. As the cat girl went about her speech she could understand and maybe even relate to what was being said, but what she didn't get was why she had to be so rude about it. There had to be a better way to simply say that she didn't want to do it and putting assumptions on others just felt a tad insensitive. Not everyone can speak their mind that confidently. She gave a sigh and nodded at Teppo's words about trading, not nearly being in the best mood anymore. It didn't help that others began voicing their opinions and arguments against the cat girl either. She didn't want to be involved in this little argument.

With that, Luna sunk her way towards the back of the group and to a more quiet area of the room. She sat and Watch all the others talk from afar while humming quietly to herself. Luna, herself, wasn't sure what she wanted to do. On one hand, she really did want to help protect the land. And the little adventure sounded appealing to her. She only really been to hotspot merchant towns so heading to another town or area was something she really wanted to do, Though...she didn't want to die a second time. She wasn't that much of a fighter or had combat magic so she felt that she would be an easy target for the demons. And that was pretty scary. Hearing the king speak about some sorta meal then...heading off? They were doing this now? She was nowhere near ready to head off on some sorta adventure yet! Or even decided if she wanted to this or not. "This sucks." She whined to herself before getting up and just wanting to go eat. Maybe a meal would help her think better. Though she hoped that attending this meal didn't mean she was committed to the idea.

Bast couldn't help but laugh at people's attempts to either ridicule her or criticize her. It was just as she feared, she WAS in a room full of idiots.
"If I were you Aaron I would think twice before trying to emulate me again. Let me not spill Blood okay?" She brushed her fingers through her hair, clearly becoming more agitated than before.

"No I would rather prefer heaven then this, We wouldn't be having this conversation if we all just died like the normal human beings we once were." She snapped back at him before turning around and clearing her throat. Bast began pacing around in her attempts to soothe herself, her temper always got the better of her, but she wasn't a fool. She was standing in a room with a king and a small militia of guards.

"Nothing that I have said so far was with any malice, If you people decide to take it as such then that's on you and your flimsy egos. I am just stating the obvious here people! None of us are heroes, no one cares about our sad backstories." She said at a jab to the six-armed man.

Her vertical pupils dilating as she turned her gaze towards him, It was as if confronting people gave her a thrill. "Your competence should be in question if you act so emotional about things no one cares about." she stated bluntly. "I for one don't care about your backstory, tell me how your resolve is going to save dying women and children at the hands of literal DEMONS."

Upon listening to some other people speak up it was clear enough that only a small handful had any actual reservations, it was as if they were happy to just endanger their life for no real reason, so what if they died? they would not feel fear or anger or sadness, they would be dead.

"I've said my piece. Maybe think about your own mortality, you aren't useful to anyone if you wind up dead. At least for me, their better be some form of compensation, I would be damned if I did this shit for free." Her voice was raised, her disrespect was obvious as Bast was clearly making tensions rise.

As the various individuals in this group of preordained argued and spoke whether in greeting or contradiction. He ignored the hecatoncheire who interjected into a conversation between himself and Bast, shrugging off his comments about him. The fool clearly misunderstood something or another, Aaron thought as he smirked and drew closer to Bast. He stepped beside her and nudge her with his elbow softly, "Bast, you needn't get so stressed out. Whether you choose to agree or not, you had the same idea the rest of us did when we arrived here. This was like those fantasies we used to read. Can't you see the cover of it now?" Aaron raised his hands, making an arch motion with them, "'I was reincarnated into a fantasy world.' Sounds like a fitting title, no?"

He smirked and stepped away as Gin and the King called for them to stop messing around. Much to his disappointment, of course. He sighed and fell in step beside the large feline. This time his voice was in almost a whisper as he nudged her again lightly, "Especially since someone who knew they were from another world tried to steal from another of her kind..." He smirked at her before reaching down and petting her ears gently, only letting his hands rub the top of her head before he pulled away, "Its good to see you again, Bast. I hope everything went well for you after we parted ways back in the desert." He gave an honest smile and waved at her before stepping back over to Gin, walking with her to the dining hall.
