Fantasy I Was Fine Until You

Gavin couldn't say she understood at all why she was doing this. It was... Strange. Lance was kissing her back, Almost eagerly and Gavin surely was not used to this. Sure, Gavin had adored her husband. But things had never really been passionate with him. There was no thought behind this. She could feel him gripping her wrist. Her other hand having moved to clutch at his shirt. Almost as though she needed him close. But they could not stay like this all day. When Gavin finally turned her face away. It felt like things had lasted both to long and also not long enough.

Her gaze was filled with confusion and distress. Averted away from Lance. Her heart still racing and she feared he might have been able to hear it from how close they were together. This was wrong, And for once Gavin finally began wondering if she was actually mad. Maybe she was crazy like her mother and father. Because this? This wasn't sane. She hated Lance very dearly. He'd hurt her brother. Any day could be his last. Gavin liked to be composed and collected. Revealing her anger was bad enough. But now tears were in her eyes and she thought she might be shaking.

Gavin couldn't really go to anyone for comfort though. She didn't want Gaheris brought into this. The rest of her family was far away or she wanted little to do with. Lance she hated, Was ashamed to let herself cry in front of him. But he was also here in the moment and things felt strangely intimate with him in the moment. Thus her forehead soon pressed against his chest. She was crying against him. Her voice strained as she muttered. "Everything is so f*cked..." Nothing was right anymore and Gavin had a feeling it would never be fixed.

Lance was far more used to displays of passion and he was also no stranger to dramatic kisses but this was definitely something else, and he couldnt help but feel he was toeing The edge of something dangerous. Still, the kiss was nice in all its desperation. He stilled as she pulled away, mind reeling about what they‘d just done and yet he had a quiet need for her to look at him, to see into her eyes if she had felt those sparks too. Gavin didn’t look at him though, her face was turned as if it was too painful to see him, yet she didn’t fully pull away so he guessed that was some solace.

Lance couldn’t hear her heart but he could feel the thrum of her pulse against his hand and the slight trembling of her body and he knew she was about to cry. He expected her to tear away, to seek out family or friends but she stayed instead, leaned further into him in fact and just let herself weep. Logically he knew that she hated him, probably wanted him dead, but they weren’t dealing with logic right now, they were dealing with emotions and Lance knew all her hatred stemmed from her pain and her grief. He didn’t hate Gavin, he was just wary of her, wanted to protect his family, but he didn’t really blame her for her feelings about him. So, Lance dropped her wrist in favour of wrapped his arms around her like he might any other crying person.

“I know” he breathed, making soothing noises to try and calm her down but he knew it was probably good for her to let out her frustration in a healthy way like crying. “I wish things were simpler” he murmured, “but life is complicated“ In a perfect world Gareth would be fine And her family would be whole, there’d be no need for these tears. In a perfect world Lance would have known about Galahad before he was born and made the decision to stay with Elaine. But the world wasn’t perfect, it was messy, but that didn’t mean things couldn’t still be beautiful or good, it was just trying sometimes.

And so it seemed Lance was to play the role of comforter to the threat towards his family. He wasn’t friends with Agravain, far from it, but maybe he should tell the man his sister was struggling, try to do her kindness even if she wouldn’t return to the favour. And that kiss! We’re they going to talk about it? Lance wasn’t sure if it would be better or worse to do so. He’d enjoyed it, but that was the problem, she was dangerous, yet having her cry against his chest made her seem vulnerable, like she was more used to being hurt than doing the hurting. Lance knew she probably didn’t want to face him, or to show too much vulnerability, but he went to pull her head away from his chest and cup her face in his hands. She needed to know she was seen, that there was someone to wipe away her tears. He’d not been back long but he’d heard about her husband’s death, that must be hard for her. “You’re stronger than your troubles” he insisted. “Life always carries on and things will get better, you just have to stick around to see it”

Lance was a strange man. Gavin did not much understand her own behavior. But Lance himself was certainly a mystery. He wasn't shoving her away. Snapping at her or anything. No, His arms were around her in a hug and it at first made her flinch. But it was also comforting. Life always felt so heavy. A burden she had to carry that she never felt she could share. For a moment though she felt like she wasn't the only one carrying it. Lance spoke and his words were understanding. Something that confused Gavin further. It was harder to hate someone who was kind. But she could not forget nor forgive what he had done.

Then he was forcing her gaze up towards him and Gavin was not expecting that. Blue eyes wide and still filled with tears and confusion. As if she did not know fully what to make of this. But Lance's own face was soft and gentle and open. There was also something like desire there? Or maybe fondness? She didn't know but she'd be lying if she said she didn't wish to press her lips against his once more. To let him comfort her. What a mess she must seem. Clinging to a enemy was not something that ever should be done. So she after a few moments forced her gaze away from him. To look elsewhere. Because she feared things would only become more confusing the longer she stared.

Swallowing. Gavin then told him. "I've things I need to attend to. " Finally she separated herself from him. Though she was soon missing the warmth. Wiping her eyes in a attempt to rid herself of her tears. She wasn't going to address the kiss. Though.. It was something she wanted to speak of. But Gavin also didn't want to acknowledge it. It felt easier that way. So she then murmured. "Goodbye." Then she was turning to leave. Oh, She had no idea how she was going to handle this. Forget about it? That didn't seem particularly easy.

The atmosphere in the room was gentle, but fragile, as if it could break any moment and they’d be screaming at each other again. Gavin was the one who decided to separate them, to change the moment into something less intimate, even if the gentle feeling in the air still remained. She had looked almost lost when he’d gazed into her eyes, unsure and tender and as she pulled away, he’d wanted to reach out, grab her hand and pull her back, reassure her that things would be okay and he wasn’t her enemy. But, next time they met, she Would Likely treat him as such.

”bye” he said back, quiet and soft and holding all his disappointment at her departure. He couldn’t quite explain what had happened but he feared it wouldn’t return and they’d be back to arguing soon enough. Maybe it was for the best? She was dangerous and he wasn’t liked by any of her family, they couldn’t be messing about like that, it had just been a strange slip up because they’d been full of adrenaline and emotions. But was he supposed to keep quiet about this? He could understand she wouldn’t want him saying anything and he wasn’t exactly one to kiss and tell but this was all so strange he definitely felt it might help to talk to someone. And suddenly he felt guilty, because she hadn’t been Caroline and of all the people to turn his back on Caroline with, he couldn’t see someone who’d kidnapped his father being an acceptable choice. He needed to start looking for someone to court or maybe he’d be kissing his enemies left right snd centre, he was too touch starved, heart aching too much. Yeah, definitely needed to talk it out some more, Caleb was probably sick of hearing it though, she was happy and in love. He could talk to Elaine, but that might be unkind and he definitely Couldn’t talk to his father about it.

Caleb would perhaps would have wanted to listen to Lance's love problems. If only to shake some sense into the man. Alas, She was not here for the moment. But Lance would soon enough have some company to keep him distracted. Christopher. The man had received word from Caleb that Lance wanted to have a word with him. Which well, That certainly sounded intimidating. But Lance was a higher ranked knight and it would do no good to try and avoid such. So when he learned of Lance's arrival. He had gone searching for him. It wasn't hard to figure out where he probable would be. A few servants also helped point him in the right direction.

Maybe Lance would have preferred to be left alone to his thoughts. But Christopher was soon enough pushing open the door. Having just missed Gavin and frowning at the sight of Lance. The man standing in the center of the room looked almost lost. For a moment Christopher continued backing away. To not disturb him. But Christopher soon shook his head. Stepping forward quietly and speaking up. "Sir Lance? " Maybe a bit too prim and proper of a greeting. But Christopher had not spent much time with Lance before and was maybe a bit uncertain of himself.

Dipping his head. Christopher then explained himself. "Caleb sent word that you want to see me. " Seeming a bit sheepish. Perhaps not imposing a impressive sight. Christopher tried his best. Sure. But he held himself in a way that showed inexperience, Was not as confident in his actions as some others. But Christopher was able to read a room. Or maybe Lance just looked out of it. For he then spoke up. "... Are you alright? " His tone somewhat worried. Though perhaps such was not his business.

Who knows how long Lance would’ve been standing there if Christopher hadn’t interrupted him, he was clearly distracted and he looked surprised when Christopher talked to him, as if he hadn’t noticed him enter. He blinked, trying to get out of his head and into the present. “Yeah, yeah, just….you ever had a sudden urge for someone that’s bad for your health?” He asked Christopher, letting it linger slightly before shaking his head and smiling apologetically. “Sorry, lady problems” he dismissed it. He couldn’t spend his day thinking about Gavin, maybe that’s why she’d kissed him? To get under his skin and in his head? Because yeah…he was feeling strange And not fully with it.

He moved closer to Christopher and turned his smile brighter, slipping back into charm as he went to sling an arm around the other man’s shoulders. “Yeah, Caleb told me that some pointers from an experienced knight could help you out” he explained. “Don’t worry, I’m not singling you out, she could do with some advice too, but she’s obviously not capable of training right now. So, su amigo es mi amigo” he insisted and squeezed Christopher’s shoulder slightly. “stick with me and by the time Caleb’s back to training, she won’t know what hit her” Chris wasn’t a young boy but like Caleb said, she’d expected him to have trained someone, this could be like a bit of a trial. He’d given pointers to people before, and learned in turn. He’d certainly taught Arthur a few tricks and he’d like to think Gawain had picked up a thing or two from him as well.

”Although really Agravain should’ve shown you a few things” he continued. “Not that I’m complaining, I’m happy to share my knowledge and get to do a bit of sparring myself but I’ve been gone a long time, he definitely could’ve taught you something in that time“ Wouldn’t he want to help out his wife’s friends. “Caleb tells me you don’t seem eager to approach him and I don’t blame you, he’s a bit feral at times, and whilst I don’t particularly like the man, he could probably do with some more friends. Caleb’s softened him up it seems, could be the prime time to become his friend” he suggested with a shrug. “But I can understand if he scares you. Don’t worry, we’ll build your confidence”

Christopher frowned at Lance's words. Someone? Christopher supposed he could sympathize with such feelings. "Mmhmm, I guess. " He murmured. So it seemed Lance had a new lady that had caught his eye. Interesting. But Lance was soon seeming almost excited then and it felt like a sharp change. Caleb hadn't really informed Christopher of why Lance wanted to see him. Chris didn't know what he had been expecting. But not this. Briefly he wondered if Lance realized he was a full knight and not a squire. Soon saying. "I've n- " Lance kept talking though and the name Agravain had him quieting down.

Christopher hadn't figured the conversation to go down this train of thought. Soon enough finding his voice enough to argue. "Agravain doesn't scare me. " Okay, Maybe Christopher was wary of him. But not scared! It felt like Lance was trying to be his mother and urge him to go make friends. But Christopher then informed Lance. "I don't mind him. I just... Hadn't thought about training with him. " Yeah, That was a lie, He had thought about it before. Mostly whenever he went to see Caleb. Had to figure out the best way to avoid sparring with Agravain!

Christopher seemed rather awkward and uncomfortable at the subject. But he soon shook his head. Amusement showing on his face as he asked. "So Caleb's been talking about me then? Said anything good about me? Ya know, Besides criticizing my amazing combat skills? " His tone playful. He liked Caleb. She was a good warrior who took her job very seriously. It was hard not to admire her a little. Besides. She needed some friends in her life. Perhaps Agravain did too. But... There was many things about Agravain that made him hesitant to approach the man.

Oh, Christopher could sympathise? Maybe they’d get into that later then, when they’d bonded a bit more. He was claiming that Agravain didn’t scare him, but maybe he should, he hadn’t been the friendliest to Christopher and had threatened him a few times. Maybe it would be sensible for Christopher to be scared of him. And Lance seemed surprised that Christopher hadn’t thought about sparring with the man. A lot of the younger knights would probably jump at the opportunity to try and spar with a famed knight but again, Agravain was a bit harsh so could do some real damage if he wanted. Christopher didn’t have to worry about that for now though, because He had Lance! He definitely noted Chris’ awkwardness though.

“Just that you’re a good man and that you’ve been keeping her company” he told Chris. “Which I’m happy to hear, Caleb deserves more friends” He’d been worried that with him gone she wouldn’t have many people to rely on or have her back but it was nice to see that wasn't true. He went to slap Christopher on the shoulder and grinned at him even more brightly if that was possible. “come, let’s what you’re working with, we can spar if you want, and then we can talk about training“ They could work on Christopher’s weak points together.

”Caleb said she doesn’t let Agravain spar at the house but I promised her a show so I’m sure she’ll make an exception for us“ he told Christopher. “Could be useful. Caleb, Agravain and her father could all give you advice” Might be a bit intimidating though, to have an audience like that, quite an intimate one. “Agravain will probably be rooting for you, he doesn’t like me very much” but he was sure Chris probably knew that. “But don’t get your hopes too high, although I promise I’ll go easy on you, don’t want to embarrass you too much” he teased, he didn’t even know too much of his Chris fought but he was confident that he’d be able to beat him.

Christopher frowned a bit at Lance. Many knights had not chosen to stand beside Caleb. Perhaps Christopher himself had been uncertain at first. But in the end, She was his friend and a fellow knight. Nothing changed that. Many other knights did not feel the same way. Which felt odd. Perhaps some form of jealousy stopped them? Christopher knew some of the knights were annoyed even with him for accepting her. But that was there problem. He didn't get much time to think further on the matter. Lance was ushering him along. Wanting to train.

Sparring at Caleb's home? The idea of sparring in front of Caleb and Melodias was not concerning. But the mention of Agravain maybe had him paling a bit. Not really for fear of him, But the fear of embarrassment. Lance was a renowned knight. Even if he was going easy on Christopher he was uncertain of his chances of winning. Didn't much want to lose in front of him. "Like, Now? " Hopefully his alarm didn't come threw his voice. Though he was sure he sounded a bit strangled. But he still continued on. Heading towards the training yard. Briefly he wondered if they'd spot the king outside. The man hadn't been in the throne room. But he could also be spending time with his wife.

Christopher figured though his main focus should be on Lance. So he spoke up. Confessing. "I prefer using a mace in combat. I like... Blunt things. " Sure, He currently had a sword strapped to his side. And he was fine with the weapon. But Christopher wasn't fast on his feet. Knew that. But he was strong. Of course not as strong as Agravain. He could still though cause some damage. So he was soon going to retrieve the weapon. Nerves suddenly going threw him. This really wasn't how he expected his day to go. But well, He'd just need to roll with it. But he did feel a bit more confident when he retrieved a proper weapon. Sure the sword at his hip was okay. He just wasn't as good with it.

Lance gave him a strange look as his words came out strangled. “Yes now, of course, when else” Lance confirmed as if it was a silly question to ask. The sooner he saw what Chris could and more importantly couldn’t do, the sooner he’d be able to instruct him and help him. He did raise an eyebrow though as he mentioned mace’s and oh, he’d had a friend who’d liked maces once two, rest his soul. “and I like sharp things, what a pair we make” Lance grinned and leaned closer, a bit conspiratorially. “You’re going to think this funny, but I’m partial to a Lance” he admitted with a wide smile. His main weapon was a sword though, which was no surprise, however, he was maybe a little too good with a sword to be using to against Chris whilst he had a mace.

Lance strode towards the weapons, searching threw them until he found two, one-handed battle axes. He attached one to his belt and gripped the other, turning back to Christopher. “It’s good to know a range of weapons” he told the other man. “I could probably use some practice with an axe so that might handicap me a bit” Lance had trained with plenty of weapons though and he was a good combination of strength and speed, meaning he was capable of mastering quite a few of them. He certainly had the muscles to prove his strength and well, he guessed Chris would get to see how fast he could be.

”Why not carry a mace with you if it’s your preferred weapon?” Lance questioned. He understood that a sword was more common, and probably more versatile, but if Chris didn’t like it then surely he should have a mace with him at least as well. Or, maybe Chris wasn’t very good with a mace even if he preferred it. At least Chris’ interest in using other weapons meant Lance could give him even more tips and they might even learn something together. And he figured Caleb could use some knowledge of other weapons, or how to combat other weapons. Agravain probably already knew how to use a mace well, and axes, although would likely choose a larger two handed axe rather than the one handed ones that Lance had chosen.

Christopher couldn't help the odd feeling he was getting from Lance. But he shook his head and continued on. Musing. "Is that why your names Lance? " He asked, Hadn't his name originally been Galahad? Maybe he simply liked Lance's a lot. Lance was going for a axe today and that surprised Christopher a bit. But perhaps it put them on more even ground. The question caught Christopher a bit by surprise. Looking sheepish. He then told Lance. "My mentor always preferred swords, Insisted I should use one too since he thought it a more noble weapon. I've... Yet to break the habit. " Christopher wasn't that far out from when he'd been a squire. Only about two years. So it was understandable he had some remaining behaviors. He still didn't actually own a mace. Just used the ones available in the training yard. Though they felt far more natural to him then a sword.

Christopher figured then that they'd be heading to Caleb's home. So the stables would be the next stop. He didn't drag his feet. Not wanting to upset Lance. But he surely wasn't hurrying. A bit of dread having formed in his stomach and finally he turned. Looking towards Lance and asking. "Maybe uh... We should do some practice spars here? Before going to see Caleb and Agravain. " It felt more comfortable in the courtyard. Sure, He knew he wouldn't beat Lance. But it felt better to be beat here then there.

He was realizing his hesitation probable looked weird. And it wasn't that he was scared of Agravain. He wasn't. Agravain might not like him, But he wouldn't kill him or anything. But the man would no doubt be critical and disapproving. Chris didn't fully know why. He just didn't want to look bad in front of Agravain.

Lance just smiled mysteriously as he asked about his name, ah wouldn’t he like to know. ”you should be comfortable, rather than worried about appearance” Lance told him. “Maces also have the benefit of surprising your enemy, most people expect to be faced with a sword.“ The element of surprise snd the lack of knowledge on how to combat a mace could work well in Christopher’s favour. Antonio had focused mainly on swords when training Lance, he’d made sure he’d had experience in other weapons but they kept coming back to the sword which was no surprise with Lance’s aptitude for it.

He frowned as Christopher aired his hesitance. “Don’t get shy on me now” Lance said, “Caleb is probably bored out of Her mind, we owe her a bit of action” At least watching a sparring session and giving out pointers would give her something to do rather than think about her pregnancy or her own boredom. “I won’t let them make too much fun of you” Lance added, wondering if that’s why Chris was nervous. He got it could be daunting, two high up knights, a talented young knight and an older experienced man, it was a lot to let down but Lance had faith that things would be alright.

He reached out to grab Chris’ wrist and pull his further towards the stables. “As I said, we’ll build your confidence and this is the first step. Then we can all have tea and talk about people bad for our health” referencing his earlier lady problems, although he wasn’t going to mention it was Gavin, and he doubted Caleb or Agravain would join in too much because well, Agravain was the person bad for her health according to Gareth. So maybe it should just be Chris that talked, but they could all give him relationship advice! Yes, that sounded good, helping him on and off the training field.

Lance seemed to have decided he was going to mentor Christopher whether he wanted it or not! And well... Judging by the way Lance talked. Christopher had a feeling Lance was going to be trying to train him for a while. Was he wanting a squire or something? Christopher didn't know. But he was ready to argue that he wasn't shy. When Lance basically began dragging him to the stables. Well, not really drag- Christopher wasn't resisting. But he figured if he had Lance might have just carried him to Caleb's.

Oh no, Christopher did not want to talk about his love life. He barely escaped Caleb pestering him about it. He didn't need Lance doing it as well! He then murmured. "Uh... I dunno if th- " But he trailed off as they finally reached the stable. Well, He might just have to roll with this. So carefully he slipped free of Lance's grip and gestured towards his horse. "Let me get her saddled and I'll be ready. " He hadn't exactly been planning to leave after all. So he was soon striding towards the animal. Setting to work.

Glancing back towards Lance. He then found himself asking. "I'm surprised your wanting to spar already. After traveling so far, I figured you'd want to relax for a bit. " He mused. Attempting to steer the conversation more towards Lance. Because well... Lance focusing so much on him felt rather awkward. Christopher then shook his head and told Lance. "Caleb really missed you, Ya know? She likes to talk about you. " He decided to tease. What! Clearly Caleb had been talking to Lance about Christopher. Of course she'd spoken to Chris about Lance.

Lance understood that maybe Christopher was overwhelmed or intimidated but he was sensing some reluctance from him; he kept starting thoughts and not finishing them, dragging his feet a bit and just trying to avoid going to Caleb’s house, and well it couldn’t be because of Caleb since she said he visited somewhat regularly. How odd. Chris wasn’t outright saying no though and that meant they were going, however much Chris was dreading it. Sometimes you had to step out of your comfort zone, it was the best way to expand your horizons.

”this is me relaxing” Lance replied. “It’s just a bit of fun, not life or death” it wasn’t even about pride, no, he just wanted to help and of course Lance viewed sparring as a way to unwind, how typical of him to be that confident in his abilities and reflexes. It was nice to hear that Caleb had missed him, he’d missed her too, and Ruth’s resemblance to her in some ways had been bittersweet, nice to be reminded of her but a slightly aching feeling of being so far away from his friend. “Of course she likes to talk about me, I’m fantastic” he ribbed. He didn’t seem overly bothered that Caleb talked about it, certainly not embarrassed and maybe even a little pleased. “You know, I found out she was a woman before it got revealed” he told Christopher.

“She got injured and like an idiot she planned on letting herself bleed out instead of letting me see it, anyway I wouldn’t take no for an answer and I discovered her little secret. I was surprised, it wasn’t what I’d expected and I’ll admit it took me a little while to fully understand It but I kept her secret, she’s definitely earned her place with the knights” he insisted. “But then she started telling me about other secrets, maybe I shouldn’t have encouraged her to see where things go with Agravain, I know they seem happy but things moved very fast between them and….do you think Agravain is kind to her? You’ve not seen any marks on her or something whilst I’ve been gone? I worry he might get carried away and hurt her” Well, it’s what Gareth had said and he remembered seeing a bruise on her before he’d gone, but one didn’t make a pattern. Lance didn’t seem too hesitant to talk about what others did in the bedroom, maybe he would’ve been I’d they’d been around ladies but Chris was a knight and it was common talk to hear in the barracks or on the training field, and even though Caleb was a lady, she was still a knight and so was Agravain so it wasn’t unusual for such a discussion to take place.

It didn't take long before Christopher was pulling himself onto his horse. Soon moving to follow the familiar path he often took to go visit Caleb. Maybe he was hesitant to spar in front of Agravain. But he did often visit Caleb. She was his friend. He was a bit surprised though to hear Lance describe knowing about Caleb's gender. Blinking in surprise and looking towards Lance. An injury? Now that Christopher thought about it. Maybe it was more surprising more people didn't know? Caleb surely got injured plenty while sparring and such. Who stitched herself up then? Probable herself and the idea made her wince.

Lance's next question alarmed Christopher a bit. But he was soon looking towards the other thoughtfully. Before finally saying. "No, I don't think Caleb would put up with Agravain harming her. " She loved her husband. But Christopher always got the feeling that she'd shut him down very quickly if she needed too. But... Agravain easily outweighed Caleb and if he wanted too. He could probable hurt her very much. Shaking his head, Before his cheeks turned a bit redder. "Besides, I uh... From listening to them talk? I think Agravain's into be.. Dominated I guess? They've mentioned collars and I swear I've seen bruises on his neck. " They certainly weren't vanilla and Christopher had listened to them flirt far too much.

But... Other things did concern Christopher and he didn't know if he should bite his tongue about them or not. He hadn't brought anything up with Caleb. But Lance was a senior knight and surely he'd be able to know what to do? Though he figured Agravain might actually kill him if he said anything. But Lance was trustworthy, Right? Christopher waited though until they were further from the castle. Before speaking up. "I am worried about Agravain a bit... I.. After Loth and such. Bedivere made the suggestion that the king should clean house. And well... I think Agravain is seriously considering doing it. Quietly. I mean, I don't think he has done anything yet. But... " He trailed off. Tone uncertain. worried.

It was good to hear that Chris wasn’t worried about Caleb in that sense and that she seemed to be standing up
for herself in her relationship, that she was firm with her husband. All it took was Agravain to get angry enough that he didn’t care about what she thought though, she might not be able to defend against a man Agravain’s size rhat had decided to stop caring. Lance frowned a little at the news about Agravain, huh, he would not really have guessed that, whenever he had heard Agravain talk about the subject he’d always seemed far more dominant himself. Although Lance could understand the attraction of being dominated by a powerful woman, he did like his women strong in character and feisty.

Agravain had even darker thoughts on his mind though apparently and Lance’s frown deepened. He couldn’t help but agree with Bedivere somewhat, the king did need to weed out those that were bringing shame to their profession, that would dare betray their trust and look the other way when Caleb had been assaulted but….Agravain wouldn't ask these men to retire, that much was clear. “and have you told anyone besides me this?” He asked, maybe that explained Chris’ nervousness then to be around Agravain, in case he was dragged into his plans or threatened. “I’ll see about informing someone.” Such as his father, or maybe the king, or….well, Agravain hadn’t actually done anything yet, maybe he was just saying things, he could just talk to another knight to see if they’d seen Agravain acting a bit shady. It didn’t really help that Agravain wasn't overly social with the other knights. And what about Caleb? She should know what her husband was possibly planning, but she could do without the stress, but she might be able to talk him out of it but they might also be worrying her for nothing.

”I’ll try to talk to him” he told Chris. “And if you think he’s going to do something, you come tell me straight away” he instructed. Agravain was….worrying. This was dangerous territory and if he was the sort of knight that thought he should clear house by killing people, maybe he should be one of the ones they got rid of. But he knew things weren’t that simple, Agravain was a good knight and did important work. Agravain couldn’t be the one to decide these things, he was too subjective, and he’d be ripping apart families and possibly be starting international incidents if he got found out, a lot of knights were noblemen, many from other kingdoms. “how do you even know that?“ Lance asked. “I didn’t think you were his friend, and he’s not exactly that talkative”

Christopher frowned and soon was shaking his head. Perhaps it was a bit odd then that he was informing Lance first. But Caleb trusted Lance, He'd been one of the first to help her. But... Agravain also hated him and it could be possible Lance was on his list of those that needed to be removed. Though Christopher couldn't say for sure. Oh, He was going to tell others. Christopher had expected that. But he soon murmured. "I... I'd rather Agravain not know I told you. I mean, If he does something. I'll speak up. But for now. Please don't mention I told you. " He figured Agravain would still be able to link it back to him though.

Christopher then looked a bit sheepish as he explained. "I was with him when Bedivere suggested that. Then bedivere left and Morgan came over. And it just sort of went from there. " Of course Morgan had been a bit involved. That woman was probable eager to cause trouble. Christopher then explained. "I think he's most interested in those that supported Loth. " There was some knights who still felt some kinship with the old man. Though Christopher figured they were few now. With Loth dead though? It was doubtful they'd stir any trouble now.

Christopher then shrugged slightly. Telling Lance. "I'm not his friend. But I... I've been trying to keep a eye on him. I just don't want him getting himself into trouble. " Perhaps he should have stepped back. He couldn't really do much to stop Agravain and he doubted Agravain would listen to him. If he did involve himself Agravain might turn on him. But he couldn't bring himself to just leave the matter. Perhaps it was because Agravain was a brother in arms? Christopher wasn't sure. But he needed to be there.

Christopher was trying to cover his tracks but who else would Lance have heard it from? It’s not like he went around telling everyone, he hadn’t even told Caleb, so yeah he’d know who’d snitched. Maybe Lance should just watch Agravain for now, not say anything and see if he was planning anything. It’d be easier to see if Agravain was doing something sneaky now that Lance was staying with him but he couldn’t spend too much time with Agravain without it being suspicious or being threatened with bodily harm.

Oh great, Morgan was involved. Hadn’t the siblings ruled her out of their life? What was Agravain doing talking to his mother, and about killing knights no less. If he were a man more prone to jumping to conclusions then he might assume they were conspiring together, likely against the throne. From the outside, it didn’t look good. Agravain was taking advice from a woman he claimed to want no connection with, who had drugged the prince and was having a false heir, talking about killing and getting rid of knights pledged to Alexander’s court. He didn’t believe Agravain to be such a traitor but maybe he didn’t realise Morgan’s angle on this. And of course it was all linked back to Loth, such a family affair. This was starting to sound more like a vengeance mission than one for the good of the kingdom.

“Maybe you are his friend and he just doesn’t realise it” Lance mused. Christopher seemed to have his back, even if not in the way Agravain wanted it covered. “Hopefully he’ll be too busy with his Brothers and baby to think about it too much, and I’ll keep an eye on him. But he should have his hands full. Maybe we should talk to Morgan, see if we can get anything out of her if they’re conspiring” although he was well aware that she was a notoriously difficult person and wouldn’t be very forthcoming with details, but maybe Lance could recruit Merlin to do a bit of her freaky knowledge stuff and either tell them about Agravain or scare Morgan into telling them something. It helped that he had no connection to Morgan himself, she didn’t hold anything over him, he wasn’t bound by blood or trauma to her.

Christopher blinked at the suggestion. Was he Agravain's friend? He wasn't sure, He did want to help Agravain. So he simply shrugged his shoulders. Speaking to Morgan had him tensing though. Christopher then confessed to Lance. "I did talk to her a bit, Just to tell her to leave Agravain alone. I... Don't think she's really bothered him that much since. " She hadn't actively tried anything that Christopher knew of. He then told Lance. "She seemed a little scared of me when I confronted her. " Now that was odd. Because few people scared Morgan. Not even the king intimidated her. Christopher wouldn't say she was terrified. But he had seen the fear in her eyes. He knew that expression. But he just shrugged his shoulders and continued on. They were almost to Caleb's home it seemed. Christopher could see it in the distance.

Oh he wasn't eager for this. But he decided to slow down a bit as to let Lance take the lead. Nerves beginning to kick in. Eventually sliding off his horse as they neared the home. Leading the animal by the reigns. It wasn't long before he spotted Caleb opening the door. A servant probable having alerted her. Or maybe she had been waiting at the door. Goodness knows she seemed bored enough to do that. But she then was calling out. "You get to work fast Lance. I didn't expect you to drag him here that quickly. " She teased. Which judging by how pale Christopher looked. She figured he probable hadn't been the easiest to round up.

But, Christopher seemed to relax a bit more at the sight of Caleb. He knew her far more then he knew Lance. Thus a familiar face was comforting. Caleb though was soon making her way over to properly greet them. Teasing. "Don't worry Chris, I promise he won't kick your *ss to much. " She played. Causing Chris to huff. "Truly, Do you have that little faith in me. I'm not a page! " But he had a fond smile on his face. Musing. "You're lucky You're not allowed to spar right now. " He said. Nudging her gently. Though Caleb hardly seemed that intimidated.

Lance didn’t like that Morgan was involved at all, it stunk of trouble and he hoped Agravain wasn’t foolish enough to listen to his mother, but Christopher was suggesting that maybe Agravain didn’t need that much promptijg to be a terrible person. But Chris was also suggesting that Morgan was scared of him so he might be going a little crazy. What reason did Morgan have to be scared of Chris? It was all very curious and Lance figured he’d need to do some investigating to get to the bottom of it all. At least that would give him something to do rather than focus on Caroline.

Lance dismounted as Caleb came into view and he grinned at her. “I’m good at what I do” he told her before turning to look at Chris. So Caleb was rooting for him? How nice, she knew how to back the right horse. “she is actually” he agreed. “Because I’d have her working on her stance otherwise” he told them, “I’d have you battle each other and pick up the pieces afterwards. But, she gets an easy ride for now. Once that baby is out of you, we’re working on your technique”

Lance slipped one of the axes into his hand and checked the balance in his hand. “For now though, you can just sit back and enjoy the show. Do you want to invite Agravain or your father? Chris is a bit shy but the extra input would not go amiss” he insisted, Agravain might not even be about though, he might still be at the castle after seeing Gaheris get knighted. Lance would like to see the man though, not a sentence he ever thought he’d say, but just to try and analyse His behaviour. Oh, and Lance hadn’t forgotten: “after our spar, we can talk about relationships, I feel I could do with some advice” he admitted. Well, he’d only talked to her not long ago, but, as she said, he worked fast. Oh, he was definitely crazy to be thinking about Gavin in that context at all. She’d kissed him to throw him off his game, surely, but….it had tasted so sweet, he found it hard to believe that was all it was.

Caleb couldn't help but roll her eyes at both men. Gently elbowing Lance and musing. "Whatever you say, But I'd take you down in a heartbeat old man! " Oh, She did like calling him old. It was fun. She did take note of the axe, Not Lance's usual weapon it seemed. That was going to be a interesting fight. Soon enough she was grinning at Lance. Saying. "It would be rude not to invite them. You guys head on towards the backyard for your spar. " She wasn't completely sure if Agravain would be interested. But her father would probable enjoy helping to instruct them. Might even join in a bit! Oh relationship talk? That had Caleb raising her eyebrow a bit and she couldn't help but tease. "What did you get yourself into this time? " But her words were lighthearted. Still, This felt fast. Atleast he seemed to be moving on!

Caleb then turned around as to leave the men behind. Heading towards the front door and opening it. Shouting. "Lance and Chris are going to be practicing in the backyard. If anyone wants to watch. " That should be enough to alert the household. It didn't take long before Caleb heard footsteps. Though they weren't from Melodias or Agravain. Instead Ruth was coming down the steps curiously. A small dog in her arms. Ah, Seemed Ruth had found Wobble and had been making friends. The hound had truly not grown much. Easily carried and cuddled and Ruth had quickly grown fond. Causing a grin to form on Caleb's face. "C'mon, You can watch too. " She urged. Not even waiting for a answer before moving to lead the way.

Meanwhile, Chris was already beginning to make his way towards the bright side. On the brightside he probable knew the layout of Caleb's home better then Lance. Maybe that might give him a slight advantage? Except the small training yard in the backyard was rather flat ground. Melodias made sure to keep it clear just incase. Stepping around. Chris turned his gaze towards the back porch where Caleb was already arriving. Sitting down on the steps. Ruth soon following behind her and the young girl was quick to notice Lance. Grin forming on her face. She couldn't say she'd really seen Lance spar before. Though he had certainly showed her somethings during the journey. Christopher was a unknown though and thus Ruth was soon joking. "Are we going to get a betting pool going then? " Her tone teasing as she took a seat next to Caleb. Even Wobble seemed interested in the show. The small fluffy dog wagging his tail. Clearly enjoying the affection he was getting. Melodias was next to show. Though he chose to remain quiet. Casually leaning against the doorframe.

If she thought Lance was old, did the same thought extend to her husband? He was only about a year and a half younger than Lance and half a decade older than Caleb so maybe she did think of him as a bit of an old man as well. And if Lance was old, then Melodias was ancient but he figured she was probably more respectful of her father. Lance followed after Chris to the back garden, surveying the area curiously before he spotted Ruth joining them and he smiled back at her. He noted the puppy in her arms, huh, he hadn’t known they had a dog, he’d make sure Galahad got to spend some time with it. Ruth seemed to have settled in so far which was good news and he was glad she seemed a bit at ease.

It was possible he relaxed state wouldn’t last though because Agravain was joking them, dragging along Gaheris behind him and forcing his brother to sit down, Gaheris grumbling along the way. Ruth should be fine though, surrounded by Lance, Caleb and Agravain, Gaheris could hardly do anything to her, and he didn’t seem fussed about her anyway at the moment, more annoyed that Agravain had stopped him from celebrating his new knighthood and instead dragged him back here. “I bet Lance is going to cripple Christopher” Gaheris muttered and Lance glanced at the boy but kept quiet. Best not to engage.

Agravain didn’t argue with Gaheris, stood behind his brother with his arms crossed over his chest. Spending time with Lance was not his favourite thing to do but it might be useful to analyse how he fought, just in case he ever had to hurt or kill him, you know, like in revenge or something. “Quite a crowd for a little spar” Lance noted, wondering if Chris was nervous at the attention they’d drawn. “Maybe Gaheris should spar after” Lance suggested, he was a new knight, it’d be good to see what he could do and if he fought Chris then he might have a better chance than if he was fighting Agravain, although Lance would have thought Chris would win. Gaheris’ eyes glinted slightly at the suggestion of violence and Agravain begrudgingly couldn’t help but agree it might be a good idea. Lance moved to get into position, unhooking the other axe from his belt and twirling it experimentally. “Come on then, show us what you’ve got” Lance grinned at him.

Chris couldn't help the tension in his chest as others arrived. He could feel eyes on him. Expectant and critical. It made him shift as he gripped his Mace. Lance did not seem as disturbed by the crowd though. Was excited if anything. Oh, He certainly caught Gaheris's little remark and wasn't that comforting. He forced himself to keep his eyes on Lance though. "I'm starting to think none of them have any hobbies. " He joked. Frowning a bit at the suggestion of sparring with Gaheris. Okay, That was far less intimidating. Less likely for him to completely embarrass himself. But it seemed the time for talk was soon ending.

Nodding. Chris soon was letting himself take a more aggressive stance. It took him a couple seconds before he launched his attack. Attempting to close the distance between Lance. Swinging the mace at him in a attempt to hit his shoulder. Chris's plan was clear. He knew Lance was faster then him. Wanted to close the distance. Make it more difficult for Lance to out maneuver him. But Caleb could already tell that wasn't going to be enough. She already knew from that footwork and swing he wasn't going to be able to land a hit on Lance. He wasn't awful but he definitely needed more training!

Except, Maybe that wasn't the case. Because Melodias suddenly spoke up. "Chris is holding himself back. " This perhaps was the first time he'd seen Christopher fight. But Melodias had trained plenty of people. Seen plenty of fights. And maybe Caleb wasn't experienced enough to pick it up. But Melodias was. He could see it in Chris's swings. See it how they moved. Still, Caleb looked back at Melodias. Frowning. "You think so? " Her tone curious. Melodias glanced at her curiously before his eyes went back to the fight. Nodding. Perhaps Chris feared he might hurt the other person in a spar? Or wasn't confident in himself to give it all he got. But Melodias then murmured. "That sh*t isn't going to last long with Lance. "

Maybe they didn’t have hobbies, or were simply bored, but a family of mostly knights watching a sparring match was probably to be expected. Lance waited for him to make the first move, watching his body language to see what it might tell him. The mace was coming towards his shoulder and Lance could see the move telegraphed before Chris had really put it into action, he had more than enough time to step out of the way but he didn’t. Instead he adjusted his stance slightly and brought one axe to block the blow. He’d changed the angle so all of that force wasn’t being directed into his arm, but instead deflected a little.

Lance was frowning as he went to swing his axe at Chris, nothing too deadly or fast, trying to slash across the man’s chest and move in closer. Lance seemed not to mind fighting in close quarters, his axes were hardly large and he knew a mace would need a bit of momentum to swing. Lance went to shove the mace back with his other axe, hoping to unbalance Chris a bit and then deliver a blow with the handle of his axe to Chris’ solar plexus. “Is that all you’ve got?” Lance asked, and he sounded disappointed, but also like he didn’t believe it. Seemed he was agreeing Melodias that Chris was holding himself back a bit. “I promise you won’t hurt me too bad” Lance told him. Maybe Chris was worried about doing some real damage, so he wanted to reassure him, but also he found that teasing could get people to lose their cool, let go a bit and fight more seriously.

Agravain hummed his agreement with Melodias. “He wouldnt be made a knight if he was still doing moves a squire could see coming a mile away” He commented. Agravain would like to see what Chris could do, in case he thought about stopping him, or maybe it’d be nice to recruit him to clean house. But this? Chris wasn’t putting all of himself out there. Maybe he’d been hanging around talented knights too much though, he guessed not everyone could be an exceptional fighter. He was not Particularly pleased at Melodias’ apparent vote of confidence in Lance though, but he figured the man would think him childish should he mention it.

Chris didn't seemed surprised by his lack of a hit. Soon going on the defensive to block the first axe. Ready to try and launch another attack. But then Lance was easily moving his weapon aside. Though Chris didn't seem to struggle too much to keep it. Though Chris was soon punished for that. Lance's hit had him grunting. Stumbling a bit back as to recover a bit. Lance was talking though and Chris seemed a bit flustered. It didn't help as he heard Caleb shout. "Chris! Get your act together and fight! " What? She had felt he needed some moral support! Chris seemed fairly embarrassed. But he was straightening himself up. Nodding his head.

Seemed they got there wish. Because Chris was moving more quickly, Rushing Lance and now? He was aiming his mace more towards Lance's head. That was more dangerous. It ment Lance would need to either dodge or block. And if he did block, Well, He'd probable feel the difference in the strike. Chris was stronger then he let on. Maybe not as quick as he should be. But if he got a proper hit in. It could be devastating. Then aiming another strike. More to the side this time.

Amusement crossed Melodias's face at the change. Musing. "Now he's got it. " That wasn't to say he was entirely pleased. Chris left himself fairly open with each attack. Though he supposed normally one had a shield when they fought with a mace. Melodias would need to check inside if they had such to lend him. But, At the least he seemed good enough with his mace. Had power in his swing that Melodias figured would hurt. Caleb seemed a bit startled though. Maybe because she was more used to seeing Chris holding back. That seeing him get serious surprised her. She was soon grinning though.
