Fantasy I Was Fine Until You

Arthur was pouting again as he was told he couldn’t be pushy. He could be stubborn! He stood up for what he believed in but Silas was probably right, he didn't like to overrule others or insist upon things that might cause any upset or hassle. He’d rather go with the flow and keep people happy. Arthur tried not to be selfish as much as he worried that he actually was. And he realised he’d been the one mainly talking. Was Vere okay? Normally he was chattier than this and honestly quite bold, he’d given Caroline a piece of his mind before, and Gaheris.

He knew Silas was teasing but the first comment wasn’t exactly reassuring. He had mostly been around men for the majority of his life and whilst Malia was a big part of his life, he wasn’t used to a variety of different women, he mainly saw women in passing, not long enough to be friends with any of them. He was worried about the questioning, he wasn’t sure he wanted people probing into his private life, and he was unsure about what he should really say, what was too much and whether he’d reveal the wrong things about himself and his relationship with Caroline. It seemed he had to worry on the go though and he was soon following Silas, making sure to gently tug Vere after him so he wasn’t left behind. ”you know I’m not as smooth a talker as you” Arthur murmured. “I’m definitely going to say the wrong thing” as much as he hoped he didn’t. “I just don’t want to embarrass Caroline or upset her friends” But at least he’d be here a while to patch up any relationships he messed up.

Arthur glanced at Vere, wanting to make him feel more involved. “You know, you and Vere both enjoy sneaking about” he told them, and yeah, Silas had to secretly escape the castle and Vere had been contemplating climbing out a window when he’d found him earlier. “I actually met Vere because he climbed through my window. Not to mention we found him on the way here with a stolen horse and sword.“ Arthur explained. “Actually, maybe introducing you two was a bad idea, I don’t want to find out what sort of mischief you can make” Arthur figured they could get into quite a lot of trouble if they tried and Arthur would just have to tag along for the ride and try to put out any fires.

Poor Arthur was clearly worried, And Silas nearly rolled his eyes at his words. Silas could be a smooth talker when he wanted to. But normally he simply did not care how he appeared to others. Much unlike Arthur. Not wanting to embarrass Caroline was sweet though. He eventually drew his gaze towards Vere though when Arthur kept talking. Vere suddenly seeming a bit embarrassed at the attention. His cheeks had turned a shade of red and he seemed to avoid looking directly at Silas.

A scoff came from Silas as he teased. "Scared what kind of trouble we'll drag you into? " But his face became more serious. Gauging Vere. The man had stolen a horse? Climbed threw a window? Frankly Silas wasn't completely sure he believed Arthur. Vere didn't appear exactly capable of that. Looked rather meek. Vere was still very much avoiding making direct eye contact with Silas and thus, Silas decided not to push the matter. They were reaching the dining room anyway. Which ment Silas needed to find some food for his kitty.

Waltzing into the room. Before Arthur could follow behind. Vere reached forward and grasped Arthur's sleeve as to stop him. "...Does he.. Do that a lot? Walk out, In just a towel? " Okay, Vere maybe had glanced towards Silas while the other was getting dressed and seen far too much. Arthur probable could understand how scarring that could be. Silas had no shame with such matters and probable hadn't even thought about it. But Vere still didn't know where to look. Looking directly at Silas just felt weird!

Actually yes, Arthur was worried about what sort of trouble the two would make. Again, he wasn’t used to being told off and he didn't want Silas placing himself in more risk. Vere had seen the bruises but didn’t know about Silas’ father and Arthur wasn’t sure Silas would appreciate him telling Vere, but he might have to if Vere got Silas into trouble. Vere currently seemed too shy for that though so maybe they wouldn’t have that problem.

Arthur went to follow Vere into the dining room but stopped as Vere pulled him back. He turned to him and frowned slightly. “He’s not very shy” Arthur explained in way of an answer. Silas didn’t seem to have a lot of shame. ”Don't worry, you get used to it” Arthur said with a shrug although it probably helped that Arthur was used to seeing knights naked and changing, Silas was not the first man to be bare in front of him, nor would he probably be the last. “come on, let’s get some food” he prompted Vere. Oh, he hoped Vere did get along with Silas, he knew it could take a while to warm up to the other prince but he was sure it’d be worth it.

Arthur moved away from Vere to enter the dining room. He wondered if Caroline and her friends would be there already or if not they’d arrive shortly. Hopefully Caroline was feeling a bit better by now, not still feeling the effects of her morning sickness, thankfully Arthur’s own sickness and hangover had seemed to pass, the soak in the bath had really helped with that, and food would make him feel even better so at least Arthur was on the up and up.

Vere frowned slightly, A little unsure how 'used to it' he wanted to get. But in the end he nodded and followed after Arthur. Whatever happened, He was sure it would atleast be interesting. Stepping into the room. Vere scanned around and admired the dining room briefly. Arthur himself probable hadn't been given much chance to look around at it yesterday considering what had happened. But things seemed more peaceful now.
Caroline was already there. Seeming pale and looking a bit sick. Her plate pushed away from herself. Seemed she had decided against breakfast. But she wasn't alone. Two young ladies Vere did not recognize sat near her. One, A brunette sat practically bouncing in her seat. Excitable asking. "So what d- " But she faltered when she noticed the arrival of Vere and Arthur. Eyes instantly going towards Arthur and slowly leaning closer towards Caroline. "Oh... Your right, He is purdy. " She mused. Not even seeming to be trying to hide her words too much.

The other woman was very much a beauty. Sitting very prim and proper. Though a snort of amusement came from her at her friends words. Swiftly she was moving her hand to her face as to cover the laugh. Cheeks turning a shade of pink. But she was quick to correct herself.
Vere also took note of Silas, Who seemed used to the scene. Lazily approaching the table and flopping down into a seat next to the brunette. Teasing. "Hey, Why don't you ever call me pretty? " Though that earned a small eye roll from the brunette. Pointing out. "You don't need a bigger ego. " She informed bluntly.

Caroline simply ignored the banter. Instead focusing on her husband and waving him over. Large grin on her face as she said. "Arthur, C'mon. This is Sofia" She said, Gesturing towards the brunette before pointing towards the other girl. "And this is Isabel. " She explained. Causing Isabel to dip her head in a small nod. Murmuring. "Your majesty..." She started politely. Though that only made Sofia roll her eyes. "Really? " She then was focusing on Arthur. Informing him. "Don't let her fool you. She ain't so prim and proper. Just a minute ago she was asking Caroline what y-Ow! " The girl suddenly squeaked and it could only be assumed Isabel had kicked her leg under the table. As the girl was giving her friend a warning look. Face a bright shade of red.

Arthur spotted Caroline immediately and she wasn’t looking much better than earlier which was a shame, hopefully she felt better. And her friends were also there, and oh….Caroline has called him pretty? He supposed that was nice, certainly not something he expected from her given her attraction to Lance. He knew they’d be talking about what had happened whilst she’d been away, the marriage and himself but it felt odd to know they’d been discussing him in private. What else had Caroline said about him?

Silas seemed relaxed, as usual, and the way Sofia talked to him sort of put him at ease, they didn’t seem too stuck up, just regular people. Arthur enjoyed the grin on Caroline’s face, it was nice to see her happy and he moved towards her. He was a little reluctant to abandon Vere but hopefully he’d take a seat, maybe next to Silas? Arthur pressed a kiss to Caroline’s cheek and sat down next to her. They were married, they might as well act like it, although they could still be more touchy feely. He nodded to the ladies in turn and oh…he could guess what area that question was leading into and he fought against a blush. Had Caroline answered the question? Did he even want to know?

He sent the girls a smile. “Well, I’m happy to answer any questions you might have” he offered, hopefully they didn’t drift into that category again though. Then again, Sofia didn't seem worried about saying what was on her mind. He could see why Silas had sat next to her. Arthur plated himself some breakfast before looking back at the ladies. ”are you married?” He asked them curiously. He imagined they could be, and if they were he imagined to fairly high up men but they weren’t princesses (or at least Caroline hadn’t mentioned such) so could marry a bit later than expected of a princess. Had they been interrogated if and when married? Or was it just because he was foreign or A prince?

So far, Everything seemed rather calm. Sofia and Isabel both seemed rather pleased to meet Arthur. Vere was soon enough moving closer and taking himself a seat. Though he remained quiet. Not wishing to interrupt. That was fine though. Sofia was happy to talk enough for everyone. Grinning at Arthur. "Any question? Any question at all? " Her tone teasing. But she was distracted luckily by Arthur's own question. Shaking her head. "No, Not yet. I've a few suitors. All are far too boring though. " Her nose wrinkling a bit at that. It seemed unlike many, Sofia was being given atleast some choice over who she married. Silas was soon rolling his eyes at Sofia's words. Stating. "Sofia darling. I think you should get used to being bored. No man can keep up with you. " He pointed out. Earning a thump on the head.

Isabel was shrugging a bit. Telling Arthur. "I'm uh... Engaged. I have yet to meet my husband to be yet. " Her tone held no excitement. Simply nerves. Though Arthur and Caroline could probable both relate to that anxiety. Caroline had certainly been nervous to meet Arthur. Hoping for the best, Fearing for the worst. Perhaps Caroline didn't romantically love Arthur. But she thought she had ended up fairly lucky. Arthur was a good man and a good friend.

Sofia then was piping up. Saying. "Ugh, I couldn't imagine getting sent off to marry some random jerk I don't know. " She then paused slightly. Looking at Arthur and seeming to realize that he might not take kindly to that. So she then said. "No offense, You get what I mean. But it looks like Caroline got lucky. You seem like a really nice jerk. " Sofia explained. Causing a long sigh to come from Isabel while Silas snickered.

Sofia’s teasing tone did worry him slightly, he would rather not answer any questions that were too personal but she was talking about herself before she could continue. She got to choose who she could marry? That was nice, although Arthur personally wouldn’t have wanted such responsibility on his shoulders, to pick a girl he had to trap in a romanceless marriage? No thank you. And Arthur could already understand Silas’ words, Sofia seemed….like a handful. Isabel seemed more reserved though, at least in Arthur’s presence. He of course understood the nerves of waiting for your betrothed to arrive.

Sofia was running her mouth although quickly covering her tracks. “Thanks, I do my best not to be jerk at all actually” he murmured, although he wondered if they’d believe that at all given the news they’d no doubt heard about him. “Besides, I’m the one who got lucky with Caroline” he insisted and gave his wife a smile. “I’m sure you’ll find the right one for you” Arthur turned back to Sofia and then glanced at Isabel “and your husband will probably be lovely” he tried to reassure her. Her parents probably wouldn’t marry her off to someone nasty, right? Except they’d done it to Morgan. Okay, best not to dwell on her right now.

”but I agree, moving to a whole different kingdom must have been scary” much like it was a bit scary for him right now. He looked at Caroline a little apologetically. He was sorry to have drawn her away from her home into a strange land which had different customs and people. “I can only hope that my kingdom will eventually feel like home to you” he admitted to Caroline. She got along with many of the people he would have said, excluding his mother but Malia had warmed up to her somewhat. What would she want to feel more at home? He couldn’t bring the snow back with them but maybe there was something she’d like to bring back with them, or something they could buy to make her cozier?

Caroline found herself tensing a bit when Arthur spoke. Her cheeks turning a slightly darker shade. But for a brief moment her thoughts darkened. Arthur hadn't gotten lucky. If he had, The two would have certainly been in love. And while they did care about eachother, It wasn't the same. Still, She didn't let herself linger on such thoughts for too long. So far, Arthur seemed to be doing well with Caroline's friends. None had brought up Morgan and it was hard to say if they thought ill of him over that. If they did, Neither mentioned it.

Caroline smiled gently at Arthur and confessed. "It was... But it was also exciting. I'd never traveled that far before. " She explained. She hadn't even traveled too much in her kingdom. Though Silas certainly had. Caroline then told Arthur. "Your homeland feels a little strange sometimes. But I'll get used to it. " She expressed. And her words were true. Sometimes Arthur's home jus felt so different. Sometimes it frightened her, While other times it excited her. The thought of Lance being there was comforting though.

Silas then laughed gently. "A little strange? I thought I was going to die from the heat! And the spiders? There were spiders everywhere. Worse, I think I saw a scorpion once while I was there too. " He joked. Perhaps Arthur disliked the chill of Caroline and Silas's homeland. But it was normal to the siblings. The change in weather had certainly been strange to them. Sofia seemed rather curious at that. Looking towards Arthur and asking. "Oh! Your home is hot, Isn't it? You know, I heard in your kingdom when it gets too hot. You all strip and run around bare. Is that true? Surely it must be! Clothes and armor must be far to hot to wear. That would explain the barbarian reputation. " Sofia had only heard stories and rumors of Arthur's kingdom. Of course much was exaggerated. It wasn't even that hot! But Silas seemed happy to encourage such rumors. Rolling his eyes before teasing. "Indeed, They also will roll around in mud to cool off. " Yeah, Silas might have been responsible for some rumors going around. What? It was fun to mess with people!

Arthur and Caroline did have some stuff in common, they weren’t frequent travellers, seemed a bit inexperienced in the world. He hoped that Caroline would grow to be fond of his kingdom, she was to live there after all and be queen one day, although thinking about that seemed so strange and honestly a little frightening. He did not feel they were ready to rule a kingdom yet. There were too many gaps in their knowledge at the moment, they were still getting to know each other and Arthur honestly felt a bit fragile, he didn’t want to put his kingdom at risk by being tricked again or something.

Silas was once again complaining about Arthur’s kingdom and he couldn’t help but roll his eyes. The next news of his kingdom though shocked Arthur a little. Was that truly what they thought? And had Silas been further poisoning their perception? Even if playfully. “That is not true” Arthur countered with narrowed eyes at Silas. “We certainly do not roll around in mud” he told the ladies. “And we don’t run around bare” Well, not usually. During the especially hot summer months, it wasn’t unusual for the knights to strip down but not to be totally naked, and not everyone did it. Lance, obviously, had little trouble showing off his body, but some of the younger knights or more insecure knights would prefer to be fully clothed. “it does get hot though, then again, I’m not surprised this kingdom is more focused on words than warriors, it’s too cold to do much of anything” he complained. Sure it was warmer in the castle but it wasn’t warm like back home, everyone must be too frozen to bother swinging swords.

”I dread to think what other misinformation Silas has been spreading” Arthur muttered with a pointed look at the prince. ”I promise, we’re not barbarians” Right? Yeah, the only barbarian around here was King Rayner. “Silas would know that if spent more time getting to know us rather than annoy us” Silas hadn’t really made a great deal of friends after all. Sure, Lance and him had parted ways on good terms but they hadn’t started that way and the other knights didn’t seem too keen on him. Malia didn’t like Silas, apart from Lance and Arthur, only Alexander hadn’t minded Silas, found him more amusing than anything else.

”if you ever wanted to visit, you’d certainly be welcomed into the palace” he told the ladies. “Although our cuisine might take some getting used to, it’s certainly spicier than yours” he murmured. He could tell the fashion was also different, probably due to the temperatures. The clothing here seemed warmer and more covered whereas back home it wasn’t that unusual for a woman to show some skin or wear thin fabrics, sometimes it was too hot to be very covered up. Obviously the accents were different as well. “But I must insist we’re civilised” he murmured. “I’m sure if you talked to our knights you’d find them very chivalrous“ They better be! They hadn’t been that nice to Silas but he could be annoying, these were two lovely ladies, surely the knights would respect them. They should do. He could at least trust Percival to be kind, hopefully Gawain, Galehaut and the rest too although being flirtatious wasn’t out of the question.

Arthur was quick to defend his home, And it had Silas snickering slightly. Seemed he'd touched a bit of a nerve! Sofia and Isabel though seemed curious and happy to listen to Arthur'. Hopefully they'd not let Silas fill their heads with anything else! Silas then pointed out. "We can fight! Its just we rarely need too. Few know how to handle the cold. " Any army that tried to attack... Well, Normally the cold winds would get to them before any blades were drawn. Silas was even more certain of that after traveling with Gawain. Had that man been left alone he'd certainly been dead long before he could find his brother.

Sofia had started pouting briefly though. Musing. "So no naked pretty men? " Earning another kick from under the table by Isabel. Seemed Sofia had little filter. But Sofia was soon perking back up. "I'd like to visit one day, But there's a lot of places I want to go. Perhaps if my parents approve I could journey with you when you return home? " She didn't really think they would. But it would be nice. Still, It seemed Sofia's parents gave her a lot of freedom. Caroline would also enjoy the company and made sure to muse. "Of course! But you must keep your hands to yourself. " She teased.

Isabel then piped up. Saying. "I uh... Don't suppose you could introduce us to some of your knights. I've heard a lot of heroic stories about them and I've always wanted to meet them. " She seemed a bit flustered at the request. But it was true. Gawain and Percival had a lot of stories surrounding them. As did a few of the other knights. Of course some had been here for a while. But it felt odd to just walk up and talk to one without being introduced. Isabel then asked Arthur. "Is it true your knights have slayed dragons? " And her eyes seemed a bit starry at the question.

This kingdom might have an army but it was unlikely they’d need to use it too often, not many people wanted such a cold nation, nor one as fractured as Silas had mentioned it to be. It was too much hassle for so little reward. Arthur and his kingdom shouldn’t have to worry about their army now anyway what with their alliance through marriage. Sofia seemed a little upset about no naked men though which was….different. Then again, Arthur supposed he admired the half-dressed knights, he just hadn’t expected it to be voiced. He was not as bold as Sofia.

It might be nice for Sofia to join them on the way back but he did fear the mess she would encounter once they got to the palace. Arthur would have a new sibling, Morgan would be on the edge of labour if not already having given birth and assuming things went well, Caroline would be heavily pregnant. He had the feeling it’d be quite hectic, but maybe she would be some comfort to Caroline In that storm? Hands to herself? Who did Caroline worry Sofia might grab? Himself? Well, he supposed he had a history of it now, or just one of the men?

Speaking of, Isabel seemed interested in the knights. ”of course” he agreed, he was sure some of the men would be happy to try and woo a lady such as Isabel and show off with stories. Ah, dragons, it always circled back to that didn’t it. “I’m afraid not, although some might tell you otherwise” he admitted. “People pretending to be dragons on the other hand? I think there’s been a few cases” Stealing riches from town and terrorising the people with fire, he remembered a few knights mentioning things like that. “They’ll be more than happy to share their stories with you“ some would probably like to share more than that, it’d be a long journey and they might consider the women here to be…exotic.

”Anything else you’d like to know?“ maybe they’d like to ask about him? ”I fear I’m not as interesting as some of our knights, they’ve certainly had plenty more adventures than me but if you’d like to know how loud Caroline snores then I’m your man” Although it was possible they already knew what Caroline was like when asleep. He was happy to share, his knowledge was just not as wide as some of his companions. He’d much rather be interrogated by these ladies than by King Rayner and he wondered how much of the king he’d see today. Hadn’t he mentioned there was to be a party today? Arthur wasn’t sure that was something to look forward to.

Isabel couldn't help but feel somewhat disappointed at the news. Seeing a dragon sounded amazing. Though she supposed it was still possible they existed somewhere. But Arthur had plenty more interesting things to tell. That both girls were sure. Though his comment about Caroline earned a laugh from Sofia. While Caroline couldn't help but gently elbow her husband. Squawking. "I do not snore! " She complained. Though a fond smile was on her face. Though Silas then scolded teasing. "Caroline, You should know better then to tell lies! " Causing Caroline to gently pout.

Isabel then scooted closer to the couple. Curiously asking. "Have you ever gone on a quest? " She had heard stories of Alexander doing such. Plenty regarding the knights of his kingdom as well. But frankly, She hadn't heard many tales regarding Arthur? Perhaps there was to much fear of losing him, Considering he was the only current heir. Though perhaps Alexander would become more lax once Arthur's sibling was born.

Sofia and Vere both seemed interested in that question too. Focused on Arthur and well.. The young man might feel a bit put on the spot. So Silas decided to cut in. Beginning. "Truly, You girls never ask me if I've gone on a quest. I feel hurt! " That caused Sofia to raise her eyebrow. Looking at Silas and asking. "Well, Have you ever gone on a quest? " Silas gave her a grin at that. Stating. "Nope. " He promised. Though perhaps that wasn't true. Did going to rescue Gaheris count? Maybe. Silas had gotten stabbed during that adventure. But he didn't much want to think about that horrible adventure.

The fond smile on Caroline’s face was sweet and for a moment Arthur relished if before she was being teased by her brother. He was being asked about quests and he felt he was going to disappoint them. He wasn’t a questing knight, he’d hardly even left the palace grounds for most of his life, he really wasn’t as interesting as they were hoping he was. “Silas has probably had more adventures than me” he admitted and he would certainly say Silas was the more adventurous prince. “I would have said you travelling all the way to my kingdom to check on Caroline was a bit of a quest” he pointed out to Silas. He’d gone there to stop the marriage, maybe it hadn’t been successful and it had ended a bit sourly, but he’d travelled a long way, encountered foreign problems and tried to protect those he cared about.

”I’ve never been on a quest” he told the ladies. “Not for lack of wanting, but I guess my father didn’t want to me to stray too far or he put in too much danger” or maybe he hadn’t wanted to deal with Malia’s sulking as she missed her son. But Gawain had said they might do some small quests which would be nice, he was looking forward to that. “Perhaps things will change once I return home” he mused, he should have a sibling by then, Alexander may loosen His grip on Arthur’s reigns then.

”the journey here was actually the first time I’ve been so far away from the palace although it’s hardly anything like a quest, we were surrounded by knights” for their safety though, not that that had saved everyone. This journey had been his first real adventure, started with the running off to fight Loth on his own, he later faced Loth in the forest and killed him. Okay, no, not thinking about that properly right now, he didn’t want a repeat of yesterday and certainly not in front of Caroline’s friends. But, ignoring the death, it had been one of Arthur’s first real life threatening fights, against someone who genuinely wanted him dead and had the mettle to back it up. Arthur clearly had not had many adventures though, he needed some lessons in how to let loose and have a bit of fun, rather than just training all the time and trying to follow the rules. Caroline snuck out at night, chased lizards, sassed Alexander, had an affair, Arthur didn’t do a whole lot of rule breaking, except the whole having an affair bit but that was maybe an odd one to start on. “Sorry for being so boring” he apologised, he really felt he should have more to tell them.

Silas perhaps had a more adventurous life then Arthur. Sure, He was no warrior. But it seemed he had traveled more in his life then Arthur had. Even before leaving for Caroline he'd been to other cities in his kingdom. Not to mention all the adventures that occurred after sneaking out. Arthur was a far more tame person in comparison. Arthur seemed a bit embarrassed by his lack of stories. And perhaps both Sofia and Isabel seemed a touch disappointed. Clearly hoping for some fantastic tale. But Caroline then nudged Arthur. Telling him. "Arthur, Your hardly boring. You're actually very admirable. I mean... Yeah, You haven't gone on a quest. But... Your certainly one of the bravest men I've met. " Or perhaps foolish. Going after Loth on his own. But he was noble. Stood up for what was right.

Silas then decided to add. "You also can't handle liquor to save your life. " He teased. Looking towards the girls. He then told them. "I swear, It only takes one glass and he's tipsy. Hopefully by the time he's sent back home he'll be a little less of a light weight! " He joked, Hopefully Arthur wouldn't end up drinking too much while he was here. Sofia seemed amused by all this. And Isabel had perked up a bit. Looking at Arthur and asking. "Do you think you'll go on any quests anytime soon? " Curiosity clear on her face. Arthur was well built, A strong knight. Surely it would be a waste not to have him do a bit of questing!

Sofia then suddenly suggested. "Ya know, There's ruins a few miles outside of the city you could explore as a small mini quest. It would at the least be a interesting sight seeing adventure. " She then gestured towards Silas, Saying. "I believe Silas has been there a few times before. " Causing the man to snicker a bit. telling Arthur. "Yeah, I shoved Caroline down a hole there once. " Caroline hadn't been very amused at the time. But Silas had found it fun! Silas wasn't sure if such was the adventure Arthur would want though. There probable wouldn't be any fighting and he wouldn't exactly be helping anyone. Just poking around old ruins. But Silas still offered. "Its been a long time, But I believe I remember the way if you ever want to visit while your here. " Getting out with just Arthur did feel like it might be nice.

It was nice the way that Caroline built him up, even if it felt a bit pitying. Even Silas was jumping on the bandwagon to sort of cheer him up, he didn’t give Arthur time to protest though, he hardly thought the ladies needed to know that. Arthur had never really thought of himself as a boring person before but perhaps he was, much in the same way he’d never considered himself to be selfish but recent events had made him think otherwise. Brave is probably just what you called the boring knights you had nothing else to say about. Maybe being here would give him some time to work on himself.

Quests soon? Probably not in an official capacity but he did have plans to accompany Gawain when something came up. He wasn’t sure he wanted to share that though, that his first quest wouldn’t be a real one and he’d be babysat by his older cousin. Oh, ruins? Pushed Caroline down a hole? Is that the same hole Silas had mentioned when trying to seduce Alexander over drinks? ”that might be fun” he agreed, sure it wasn’t fighting, but he’d like to see the ruins, to marvel at what had been. “As long as you don’t push me down the hole” he warned. He didn’t put it past Silas even now, Arthur would have to steer clear of it just in case.

Arthur did enjoy spending time with Silas and at this rate he’d see more of Silas than he did Caroline so he’d have to make sure not to neglect her, although she might not want him hovering around all the time. He just wasn’t quite sure where he fit in this kingdom just yet. “Are you ladies coming to the party tonight?” He asked. They were Caroline’s friends so might be nice to have them there, people he at least somewhat knew. He was sure there’d be plenty of strangers looking at him weirdly. Hopefully Silas would also be there, was probably obligated so but well, Silas didn’t show much care for obligations.

(I was thinking, when Arthur starts going off the rails, he could find a drug similar or the same as the one Morgan used on him and buy it to decide a micro dose himself to try and gain some control over himself, as well as with the intention of using it in case he and Caroline need to try for another baby. Obviously it’ll be quite unhealthy of him but I think it might be interesting to have him obsess over it a little and subject himself to that manipulation again)

(Oh, I could see him finding it after going partying with Silas. Though Silas may or may not be aware of such. I could see Arthur taking it and making Vere like really uncomfortable. And Vere kinda snaps at him to chill out. Which would probable make Arthur feel even more awful. )

Silas gave Arthur a wide menacing grin. Placing his hand on his chest and saying. "I would never! " He squeaked, And yeah. Arthur would need to be careful. Because Silas would totally shove him down a hole. He wouldn't leave him down there for very long though! Probable. Silas then shook his head. Musing. "Well, Seems we have a adventure planned. " It would be nice. Though maybe it would be wise to wait until things warmed up a bit. Silas wasn't sure how much Arthur wanted to go hiking in the snow. Then again, Arthur was going to be here for a while! Might as well get used to it!

Arthur was then questioning the girls and Sofia let out a small groan. "No, My parents won't allow me. Said something about me tending to 'run my mouth.' " Yeah, That probable was wise. Sofia would probable offend some noble if she was allowed to go. But Sofia did tell Arthur. "My father and older brothers will be there though. " Though Sofia was unsure how much Arthur would actually get to interact with them. Isabel then was also telling Arthur. "I don't plan to go either. I find such things a little intimidating. " Shame, Arthur probable would like to have more people he'd spoken with before there. But Arthur could probable relate to Isabel wanting to avoid the event.

Silas then informed Arthur. "You and Caroline ought to join me. I'm planning to hide somewhere else during the entire event. " He was not in the mood to deal with such things today. Sure, It would get him punished. But Silas figured he'd get punished anyway. Might as well go somewhere else to have some fun. Caroline was not so eager. But she did confess. "I wouldn't mind just staying in bed the entire time. " She did not feel well. Was tired. Honestly, Out of the group, Caroline had the best chance of escaping. Her father would probable be more understanding if she left. Though that didn't mean he'd approve.

(Oh, poor Vere. I can also imagine that maybe Gawain finds him after he’s had some and is worried Someone drugged him again because he’s seen the effects in his brothers so knows what it looks like. If he found out that Arthur was doing it to himself as well, he’d probably give him a big scolding)

Arthur did not need to be shoved down a hole, would probably try to bring Silas down with him if he tried it, although that might be dangerous, because then who would rescue them? Maybe it wasn’t that deep and he’d be able to give Silas a boost out of there, or climb the walls. Hopefully he didn’t have to find out though, he’d certainly keep a watchful eye on the other prince whilst they were there.

So no Sofia, yeah Arthur could see why but she seemed nice enough, just a bit blunt. It seemed the men in her family didn’t share such traits but Arthur wouldn’t be able to pick them out of a crowd. And Isobel wouldn’t be there either? Arthur hadn’t known the girls long but it would’ve been nice to see some familiar faces. And even Silas was ditching! He glanced at Caroline in worry as she too claimed she didn’t want to go. He reached a hand out to touch hers. “You feeling okay?” He asked gently, obviously he knew she was pregnant but he didn’t want her ill on top of that and maybe there was something he could do to help? Well, he would rather she didn’t over exert herself or stress herself out. But, he didn’t want to be left alone in a room full of strangers and the king. Maybe some of the knights would go? Gawain would probably be with baby Theo though and he wasn’t sure the other knights wanted to go to something like that so soon and be gawked at. Maybe Percival, he was high-ranking, a member of royalty in his own right, but Arthur didn’t have high hopes.

”I would really rather not be alone tonight” Arthur murmured. Oh, what about Vere? What if someone from his family turned up though? They weren’t ready to face them yet. “Silas can’t you just appear for an hour?” He asked, turning almost puppy dog eyes on him. He didn’t know anyone here, couldn’t someone just introduce him to some people? Arthur didn’t want to annoy Rayner any more and have him punish Silas and he also knew that Silas not being there would probably annoy his father. Couldn’t they just all band together to support each other? “I’ll buy you a drink if you come with me” he promised him although Silas could definitely afford his own, he didn’t really know how to bribe him. “I’ll owe you a favour” he suggested, he wasn’t sure he wanted to know what Silas might do with a favour but he didn’t really want to be alone tonight.

(I feel like Gawain would be so worried about Arthur, He would certainly yell at him a good bit! But only because he's concerned. I imagine Arthur and Gawain will also become a bit closer the coming months. With Gawain taking Arthur on small quests and such. So that will probable add to him worrying about him! )

Poor Arthur was soon fretting and well... The group was basically planning to leave him to the wolves. Though Caroline was not fully set on leaving. Glancing away from Arthur somewhat awkwardly. She then confessed. "I'm okay... Just, A bit sick. " She didn't want to worry him. But Caroline did not feel well. Hopefully such would pass soon enough. Arthur was soon turning his attention to Silas who seemed amused by the others struggle. Buy him a drink? Silas almost laughed at that. But soon teased. "I don't think its possible for me to refuse that face. " Arthur looked like a really sad puppy right now. It was fun.

Silas wasn't eager to be around his father. Nor to mingle with other nobility. But he knew how to handle such things. So he waved his hand dismissively. "Stop worrying so much, I'll be there. " Silas wouldn't promise he'd be well behaved. But he'd be around and would be able to introduce Arthur to some of the nobility. Not that Silas really cared for any of them. Oh, He was sure he was going to have a headache by the end of the night.

Silas then stood up. Patting Arthur on the shoulder and musing. "I'll be sure to make good use of that favor though. " He promised, And wasn't that menacing? Silas was only teasing though and then told them. "All right, I'll see you guys later. I've got things to do. " If he was going to this party he'd need to get somethings in order and get ready. Thus it seemed Arthur was to be left alone with just the girls and Vere. Stepping away. Silas then made a soft clicking noise. Causing his Cheetah to lazily move to her feet. The servants had made sure she had been fed and the animal was still licking her lips as she trailed after Silas. Seemed Caroline and Arthur weren't the only ones that would be missing Silas. For Sofia looked a bit disappointed when the man left. Gaze following him as he walked out the door

(I like that they’re going to bond and grow closer but poor Gawain, he doesn’t need this on his plate. Arthur is going to go quite downhill and then drink even more to try and forget how he feels about it)

The pregnancy was probably the root of Caroline’s problems but maybe there was something she could take that would make her feel better? Arthur would rather she was comfortable. Were her friends aware of her pregnancy? They hadn’t seem too bothered about her feeling unwell but maybe they figured it was the journey. It seemed that Arthur didn't have to worry too much if Caroline decided not to come because Silas was reassuring him that he’d turned up. So puppy dog eyes worked on that prince? That was worth making a note of. Not that Arthur knew what else he’d use them for but it was always good to know.

Maybe Arthur’s should’ve let his eyes talk rather than his mouth because yeah, what would Silas use a fAvour for? Probably to get him into trouble if he had to guess but they’d tackle that when they came to it. Silas was soon gone and Arthur noticed Sofia’s reaction. What was that about? Maybe he’d ask Caroline later, he was probably being too presumptuous to assume she had a crush on Silas but they had seemed at least playful earlier.

“So, now that he’s gone. Any gossip about Silas you think I should know?” he asked curiously. He hadn’t seen Silas for quite some while and whilst Silas had shared some things with him, it might be useful to know what others thought he’d been up to. Arthur was used to knights gossiping, but the knights here might not be as informed as two high up ladies. It was worth a shot. Arthur was sure there was gossip about himself and maybe there’d be more soon because Arthur wanted to speak to Kay today, he’d kept him as a slave for far too long, he wanted to free him.

(Silas is gonna worry a lot about him too. Like, I think at first he's just gonna be like, Yay fun Arthur. And then when he realizes this is starting to become a problem He'll get really worried. Might feel a bit guilty because he'll probable be responsible for introducing Arthur to the shadier parts of town. )

Both Sofia and Isabel seemed surprised by the question. They probable hadn't figured Arthur would be much for gossiping. Though Caroline seemed amused and a little curious herself. It would be good to know what her brother was up too. Sofia was the first to speak. As blunt as ever. "Well, According to some of the servants, He's been behaving strangely. " She began. Before glancing around to ensure no one was listening in. Leaning closer. Sofia then said. "I think he got hurt down there. " Yeah, Everyone knew how open Silas was with sleeping around. Something he hadn't been doing lately and it had left those who knew him confused.

Caroline had just been getting a drink of water and nearly choked at Sofia's words. Warning. "Sofia! As much as I know you enjoy such subjects. Perhaps wait until I leave before you start talking about my brothers activities. " She didn't need to hear it. Though Caroline didn't think Sofia was going to stop anytime soon. Sofia did what she wanted. Isabel had something more interesting to say though. Telling the group quietly. "I heard king Rayner is planning to try for a new heir. " Now that was alarming. Caroline and Silas had no other siblings. There father having never remarried after their mother. As far as Caroline knew he had no intentions of remarrying. So Caroline was quick to decide that was just a rumor.

Isabel then told Arthur. "He's apparently been asking about a couple noble ladies. I'm telling you, Silas needs to be careful. " That perhaps didn't mean much. He could very much be trying to find Silas a wife. But even if such was all false rumors. It highlighted that many thought king Rayner wanted a different heir. Silas didn't seem to want to be king anyway. But if Rayner did have another child. Silas might not leave unscathed. Rayner already tortured his son. What would he do if he no longer had to worry about Silas being his only heir?

(it might be a bit of role reversal, Arthur telling Silas do relax, that he’s fine, whilst Silas worries. I feel like Arthur is going to rely on Silas heavily, he’s the only other prince he’s really spent a decent amount of time around and he feels like he can be himself around Silas so is gonna air most of his problems to him eventually)

Acting strangely, yeah Arthur had caught onto that within a few minutes of talking to Silas so he wondered how much it worried those that had seen it for some time. Of course Arthur was aware of the reason but he didn’t think Silas wanted it said, we’ll likely more accurately, Lance wouldn’t want it said and so Silas was respecting his wishes. Clearly people had been speculating about the reasons though, not that Caroline wanted to hear. “Perhaps he has simply decided to slow down” Arthur suggested although he doubted they’d believe him, it really did seem like sudden change in behaviour for Silas.

The next bit of gossip was a lot juicier though and a lot more terrifying. Arthur actually froze at Isabel’s words. Another heir? Rayner hardly deserved those he had. He glanced at Caroline to see her reaction but she didn’t look too worried. Wasn’t it a bit late in Silas’ life to try and replace him? Sure, Malia was having another heir but that wasn’t the same. And there was no guarantee it’d be a boy, and even if it was, would Rayner treat this son any better? Silas was definitely at least a partial product of Rayner’s parenting, why would he expect a new son to be any different? Or would he be kind? And if so, why just Silas that he hated?

Arthur had to tell Silas, although maybe he already knew. “I think it’s a bit late to replace Silas” Arthur mused, even if Silas didn’t want the job. “It could take years for him to have another son and then to prepare him to be king? Time is not stacked in his favour” Arthur pointed out, but perhaps Rayner was desperate. Still….”why wait all this time?” Lingering on his old wife perhaps. Arthur just did not like this rumour at all. Arthur dreaded to think it but would Rayner kill Silas? He already hurt him so much. Maybe he would keep him around just to hurt more though. “I don’t understand why they don’t get on?” He admitted. Obviously Rayner was a terrible person but when did the schism in their relationship form. “Did they not ever agree with one another?” He’d always looked up to his own father, even if there were some things they disagreed on, he’d been raised to respect his father and did actually get on with Alexander for the most part.

(Silas is gonna get so stressed. He's not built for being the responsible one! But yeah, He's gonna be so worried about Arthur. )

Isabel shrugged a little at Arthur's question. It wasn't something she really had answers too. Though she soon pointed out. "I mean... Silas doesn't exactly seem... Kingly material. " From what Isabel knew of Silas atleast. He didn't seem the most responsible! Just running around fooling around. Stirring trouble. Though Isabel had never spent too much time with the prince. But king Rayner might not have any other choice. As for why he'd wait so long? Isabel wasn't sure. These were questions more fit for the royal family and her gaze was soon on Caroline. Clearly hoping for her input. But Caroline seemed hesitant to speak.

Finally she told them. "I.. Don't think this is a good conversation to have. " It felt like something they should not be discussing. But in the end, Caroline shook her head. Telling them. "I don't see my father remarrying. But... I would not be surprised if he was trying to find someone more... Suitable to rule after him. " What that ment for Silas? Caroline did not know. It was dangerous territory. Would her father be able to crown someone else as his heir when he had a living child? She didn't know. Didn't want to think about it. But surely not, Her father was a harsh person. But he would not go that far.

As for why they didn't get along? Caroline wasn't sure anyone but Rayner would be able to answer that. Sure, He'd been stern with Caroline while she was growing up. But never had he harmed her. Caroline thought he'd been a good father to her. Such treatment did not extend to Silas though. Sofia was frowning before telling Arthur. "I always heard that Rayner never approved of him. But I... I don't really know anything about it. " Sofia figured some of the other nobles might know more. But it was hard to tell if the things they said were true or false. Sofia then confessed to Arthur. "I don't really agree with everyones opinion. I mean... Silas has his issues. But I think he'd be a very good king. " He might not like the job. But he'd do his best and Silas knew how to step up and take charge when needed. He knew how to mingle with nobles. It seemed Sofia did think fairly highly of the prince. Isabel seemed to disagree though. Judging by the way she wrinkling her nose at the idea.

(poor Silas. I’m a bit stressed out at the moment to be honest, just brought home two ragdoll kittens. They’re very sweet looking but still unsure and my current cats aren’t too pleased at the moment)

Arthur frowned as Isabel seemed to think that Silas wouldn’t be a good king. Even if she thought it, it wasn’t really the sort of thing you heard people say. Then again, he supposed he wouldn’t have people saying it to his face anyway. He could see where she was coming from, even if he didn’t necessarily agree. Silas was reluctant to be king and he was sometimes easily manipulated and also not the most responsible of people but Arthur couldn’t say that he thought Rayner was a good king.

Caroline was right, it wasn’t the best topic to discuss. Rayner might not like them chatting about his personal affairs. But Caroline seemed to think it within her father’s character to replace Silas. Arthur just had a bad feeling about it all. And everyone was just as clueless as Arthur regarding why they pair originally disagreed. Maybe he’d ask Rayner next time he was bloodying his son? Yeah cos the king would find that amusing.

Arthur couldn’t help but find himself agreeing with Sofia. Silas knew how to be a king, had learnt and whilst he didn’t want the power, that was part of the reason why he was a good candidate. Silas wasn’t power Hungry but instead he seemed to care about the people and even if him and Silas disagreed On things like slaves, Arthur was sure that Silas was a good man and thus would be a good king. When Silas had been comforting him, he’d talked about how they as future kings would have to get used to having blood on their hands and hurting people, he hadn’t seemed like he thought he’d be replaced but instead believed he’d be king even if he wasn’t happy about it. “I think he’d make a good king” he agreed with Sofia. “Obviously I don’t know Silas as well but he’s certainly got the mind of a king” he was smart and witty and was probably a good planner. “I mean there are some things he can work on, he’s not always the most responsible and maybe I don’t always agree with his ethics but he would know how to help your kingdom” he’d travelled, probably mingled with townspeople more than his father, he would be well informed on the issues. “Hes good with his words when he wants to be as well, and he’d obviously have a strong alliance with my kingdom” and it was expected the same Of a sibling no doubt but it would be a sibling Caroline would not know very well so once her father was gone, the duty to her kingdom might not be the same.

(Aw! If you happen to take any pics of them. I'd love to see the kitties! )

Isabel looked visibly surprised by Arthur's words. Seemed she hadn't expected him to support Silas. It had her frowning. But she supposed that Arthur's support of Silas was aa good thing. Sofia though seemed rather pleased at Arthur's agreement. Was smiling in delight. Finally Caroline also looked towards Arthur. Telling him. "I doubt many would dare discuss this. But I imagine opinions on Silas are very... Split. " Some saw the potential in Silas. Others not so much. Whatever the case. Few discussed such things unless in private away from prying ears.

Caroline then shook her head. Telling the group. "If he had too, He'd be able to step up and be a good king. I know he would. " He had it in him. But Silas was willing to fight tooth and nail against becoming such. He didn't want to be king. Caroline wasn't sure he had a choice though. Rayner was strong and healthy now. But oneday he'd pass away and eyes would be on Silas. He'd have no choice then. Not everyone believed he could step up though. And Isabel sighed and shook her head. confessing to the group. "I... Fear he'll run from being king. " Silas ran away from a lot of his problems afterall.

Isabel then fretted. "If that happens.. It won't be pleasant. Who'd rule then?" There would be fighting over who'd be king. Such things could get bloody very quickly. But Caroline shook her head. Suddenly pointing out. "If that happened. I'd help settle things. If something happens to Silas I'm technically next in line. " Though she was uncertain how strong her claim would be. She was not a man after all. But she'd do her best to keep her old home safe. Still, Caroline was married to Arthur and her ability to help was rather limited.

(I’ll see what I can do)

Arthur wasn’t surpised that it was a topic rarely discussed out in the open, it vaguely bordered on treason with the suggestion that Silas might not be a good king. But Arthur believed in Silas, thought he could be a good king and hopefully would be. But Isabel made a good point. Silas did tend to run when things got tough for him, not the best trait in a king. But Arthur was here now, could hopefully help him to face his troubles rather than run from him. They could help each other be better future kings, he was sure of it. He could teach Silas to be responsible and maybe a bit nicer, although maybe Silas’ polarising attitude was not something he could change.

Isabel was making another good point. If Rayner had no more children, or at least if The child was too young, or unsuitable, who would rule? And yeah, Caroline was next in line, except this wasn’t really her kingdom anymore. “I suppose, based on that, this kingdom could be absorbed into ours but I don’t think either of our kingdoms would like that” Arthur mused. Might be a bit difficult to enact, they’d need to bring knights with them to settle the cities. Whilst Arthur didnt think a takeover would please anyone, Caroline could at least travel here to help settle things for a period of time, Arthur would rather their allies be peaceful than in turmoil. He’d happily come and assist too although this kingdom might not like that. Or, maybe one of their children would be appointed king or queen? Since she was next in line, that meant her children were after her. Arthur supposed that wasn’t a terrible idea although he’d rather not send their children away And they needed heirs to his kingdom as well.

”hopefully that is not a problem we have to face” Arthur murmured. “I’m sure Silas will step up, I might be able to help him see this kingdom needs him” They would be here awhile, he hoped he could fix some of Silas’ problems with becoming king in that time. “I think a civil war is the last thing anyone wants” sure some people might want the throne but the majority of people, probably just wanted to live peacefully. Or maybe this kingdom was very different than his own.
