I think I wanna marry you!

Cassidy trudged into the apartment, carrying a stuffed backpack, with boots heavy and head hung slightly. After dropping the keys onto the kitchen table, he kicked off his muddy boots and dragged himself into the bedroom, where he figured he would find Adrian at this ungodly hour of the morning. He peered at his new watch. Five fifty-nine AM. The agent had just returned from a week and a half long mission. Which he deemed was pretty much a camping trip, besides the scuffles the natives kept provoking. On underdeveloped tribal planets, one of two things always occurred: Either they worshiped you, or they were scared and wanted you gone. Based off Cas' bruised arms and face, anyone could decide for themselves what the natives thought.

He had hardly slept in a week, because they had assigned three people on the mission, and they had to rotate watches for the natives of course. And the cartel they really had been sent to intercept. Except for the minor detail that the cartel had packed up and abandoned the planet in a secret cargo ship only the day after they arrived. They barely left a trace, and they had scoured the jungle for nothing. Nothing.

Cas knew it wasn't worth nothing, however, because when he stumbled into the bedroom, he fell onto Adrian's gently rising chest, "A-Ade!" He whispered, dryly swallowing with his water deprived throat, "Hey!" He insisted, wrapping his arms around his drahy that he had only seen in a photo the past week. "Wake up!"

As soon as Adrian opened his eyes, groaning in confusion, Cas thrust a slip of thick paper in his face, "First check!" He felt ready to cry, knowing he had left Adrian with a mere loaf of bread and jar of fluorescent jam for the whole time he was gone. No blankets, no heating, no entertainment. Nothing but a few jugs of water he filled up in the convenience store's bathroom and the aforementioned food items. The Lieutenant sat up, sliding the backpack off his shoulder to sit next to them, "Look, I got a few things... I only spent a little. This cost me just about half of it." He realized how dismal that sounded afterwards, because he only pulled out a single comforter, a dozen or so non-perishable jars of food, and a tiny bundle of clothes. He had been re-issued a military uniform, which he currently wore, but he had bought Adrian a single change of clothes and a jacket. Nothing nice; they were all out of a second hand shop he found on his way home through the star system. The jacket would be warm, for it was heavy like a sweater, but the outside had a few rips, and the zipper was broken. Still, it was the warmest one there he could afford without spending too much.

He stared down at the bundle with a tiny smile, hiding a manifestation of self-disappointment. He pushed his black bangs from his eyes without looking up at Adrian in the dimly lit room, shuffling through the items grimly. He fingered the edge of the blanket, feeling the velvety top, and ignoring the tiny moth bitten holes that were littered throughout the cream colored abomination.

Adrian giggled, suppressing an ugly snort as he adjusted the tiara on his head. The other’s dark skin was forcefully pressed against his, contrasting with Ade’s neck as he continued to smooch and explore, resulting in loud sniggers of playful laughter from the auburn-haired doctor. With one pale hand, Ade tangled his fingers in the other’s messy hair, and the dark whisps quickly swallowed up the tiny gold glint of his new wedding ring. Moments passed before Cassidy raised his head again, rosy-cheeked and grinning mischievously. He edged forward on top of Ade, wrapping his arms around the Scot’s neck. The doctor looked at him, confused briefly as he felt tugging on his own hair, before the Lieutenant drew away again, howling with laughter as he examined his handiwork.

Ade grimaced as he turned his head towards the mirror opposite their hotel bed, “Ooh, a hairtie…? Very funny-“ He swished his hair exaggeratedly, the little ponytail at his back of his head holding tight and preventing auburn curls landing in his eyes. Ade cocked a brow, before turning towards Cassidy, “You’re just jealous your new husband has longer hair than you.” He murmured, digging his fingers into Cas’ ribs. Hoots of drunken laughter began to fill the room again, and before Ade had a chance to intervene -

---

Stirred from his sleep, Ade eyes snapped open, focusing once again on the other on top of him with a tired smile. He stared up at Cassidy sleepily, naturally assuming they had both fallen asleep. But the second he looked away from the other’s lips, cocking an eyebrow at his desperate, excited words flowing from them, a quiet groan of confusion escaped Adrian’s throat. Bruises and dirt on Cas' skin started to swing into focus, the other’s hair a greasy mop of uncleanliness. Adrian licked his dry, cracked lips, helpless as his real situation began to make itself apparent. The tattered walls, the creaking floors, the frigid air trapped in the room. The hot, painful pangs of hunger in his stomach and throat. The sunlight no longer caught in the other’s hair, but was trapped behind greasy windows, barely visible in the early Shialan morning. Cas’ paler hand started to dig out bundles of food and clothes, absent of both his binding tattoo and a wedding ring. Ade sighed, sitting up to face reality has he had done the past week and a half.

His eyes travelled to the jars of food, longingly staring at them while his stomach rumbled in desire. Ade reached over wordlessly and unscrewed the lid of one, digging a finger into some brownish goo, and pushing it in his mouth hungrily. It took Ade a few minutes to notice that they were sitting in silence, the other looking down quietly and stroking a small blanket he had acquired. Ade sniffed, clearing his throat and placing the jar of foodstuff on the nightstand, already half-empty.

He leaned over to Cassidy, embracing him heavily and kissing him on the head. “Thank you, love.” He murmured, teeth streaked with the gunky food. He looked over the other's shoulder vacantly, still lost in the euphoric dream swirling around in his head. “I’m…glad you’re back home, safe.”

Glancing every few seconds with a grimace at his hungry lover, he sighed, mentally disappointed in himself. Leaving Adrian with nothing. Bringing him shit for food.... Cas' face rose from looking at his moth eaten blanket with a tiny smile, after being pulled in for the forehead kiss. Like Adrian was forgiving him in a way. He threw the warm blanket over them both, and relaxed onto Ade, forgetting the food cans that littered the bed. He fell limp, muscles aching from the bruises that covered his body, and from general fatigue. "Hnn..." He groaned, letting his face sink into Adrian's side, "I haven't slept in..." He yawned, "I think a couple days at least."

He fought the urge to sleep, and flipped himself over, squinting at Adrian in the dim light. He could see the greasy hair from a lack of bathing, the stink rose off both their bodies. Dirt smeared Cas' uniform, and dust Adrian's disgusting clothes. No running water yet. No laundry. No food. No blankets... He was putting their home together like a painstaking puzzle... "H-How was your weak?" He inquired gruffly, clearing his parched throat, "Make any friends?"

Ade allowed the other to rest on him, draping an arm around the other and thankful for the warmth from both himself and the blanket, despite their uncleanliness. After all, Ade was just as bad. He yawned back, although he was anything but tired – he had barely done anything but sleep for the entire week. The dream constantly came back, each time more real and refined, like him missing Cassidy was making it more powerful. Even when he was awake, it stood out in his mind prominently, clear as a recent memory. All the families together. Back on Earth. Getting married, no consequences, to his lover-

“-Hm?...Friends?” Ade sniffed, blinking at the other. He twisted his face in discomfort – the neighbours next door who had drugged him were constantly shrieking and howling in Shialan, and during the twice he had ventured outside, he had almost immediately returned, fearing his life after being chased by a group of young aliens. “Oh…Well. There are some very handsome insect-creatures living in the bathroom. And I think broom-neighbour will appreciate your return.” He sighed, the dullness in his voice taking the humour from his sarcasm.

The doctor rested his head against the pillow, resting his head on the other’s dark tufts. “What about you?” He inquired in a distracted voice, obvious he wasn’t paying attention. Adrian’s hand trailed down the other’s arm, stopping abruptly as he felt a sticky sore on the surface of the other’s flesh. “What - they didn’t even patch you up?”

Cas was initially amused by the response, giggling and cupping Adrian's face endearingly. "I hope you didn't harm the alien insect fellows - they're just second class citizens. A twenty-first century like you just can't understand." The time agent grimaced at the sigh, his giggles failing. Sarcasm, yes, but Ade wasn't too amused it seemed. How bored Adrian must have been, all alone for the week, locked up in the cramped apartment...

The dark haired one sighed, "Well... My new partners don't really trust me... Certainly makes them hard to work or compromise with. Whenever something goes wrong, it's my fault. As the spy I am, trying to sabotage the mission." Cas' flinched as Ade's hand ran over a raw blister. Drawing back his arm, a shrug was all he gave after. Acting not to be bothered by his injuries or bruises. "It's... Not a big deal." He whispered. I'll have to pay for them to 'patch me up'. How would I buy him food, or entertainment, or anything at all? The agent let a tiny grin overcome his lips, "Besides, I've seen worse. It's nothing." Cas leaned over, pointed nose brushing against Adrian's, "I've had more pressing matters on my mind than a blister." He dipped in for a firm smooch, "Haven't you?"

“Mmm.” Ade’s expression softened as the other pressed chapped lips against his own. He turned over onto his side, sighing deeply as Cas’ mischievous smile returned, his injuries all but forgotten. “Well, actually – “ He murmured as they broke off, before suddenly casting a worried look towards their feet. The jars of food on the blanket piled up dangerously close to the edge of the bed, threatening to smash if they started getting passionate. He begrudgingly shuffled over and rescued the precious food, placing them carefully on the floor before crawling back over to his lover.

Adrian lifted a hand to brush Cas’ dark hair out of his eyes, staring lovingly into his dark spheres. He bit his lip, wondering how he could slide the truth in a way Cas would understand. “I – I have had something on my mind – for the whole time you’ve been away.” His voice suddenly sounded nervous and excited – as if he was going to propose again. Although he tried to convince himself it wasn’t a big deal; they had already done it once before, just in a different way. Besides, it was just an idea, after all. “I was…wondering...” He mumbled, entwining fingers around Cas’, whose expression clearly reflected what he guessed Ade was thinking. “…if you wanted to...get married...?”

Cas' insinuation was brushed off; oddly Adrian wasn't on the same page with him today. He rolled back onto his elbows to watch Ade gather up the food, and safely place them on the floor.

Cas sat back waiting for Adrian, rolling back to him eagerly when their supplies were safe from their feet. He took Adrian's tattooed hand, pressing down and brushing his thumb over the ink unconsciously. "I had something on my mind the whole time too~" Adrian's nervousness was growing, Cas narrowed his eyes with a raise of a brow, waiting in confusion.

Adrian's admission, and part proposal, drew no reply from Cas. The agent stared at him, pulling a blank, "You want to get bound... Again?" He took marriage for binding now, not understanding what Adrian truly meant by marriage.

Ade’s head shook, smiling weakly down at the other, “No – not bound. Married.” He tapped the other’s ring finger with a grin, as if it meant anything to Cassidy. The excitement shrunk from the doctor’s face, however, as the Lieutenant frowned in even further confusion. “You know. The Earth ceremony.” Ade reminded him, nodding in desperation.

“Since we’re not on the run anymore…we could – we should - get married. Here.” He kneaded the mattress beneath Cas in nervousness, unable to bear that the other wouldn’t like the idea. “We could save our money, get some fancy clothes, some rings - find somewhere...nice to...you know - “ Ade said, frowning a little as he struggled to think of anywhere remotely nice - looking nearby. Nevertheless his thoughts flew to the memory-like dreams in his head, glowing scenes of the two of them, so content and in love. Which seemed miles away from how they were at the moment. Ade leaned down, rubbing noses with the other, as he closed his eyes, trying to take himself back to that time, “-doesn’t that sound good to you?”

Interrupted by the brushing of their noses, he stopped and closed his eyes, "Adrian... I barely make enough money to feed us and pay utilities. What does a human... Marriage even require because, I mean what do you mean rings? Fancy clothes? ...And where would we even get married."
