The Grey Goddess
The Grey Goddess
⤜ The Tale Of The Taken Seed ⤛
It began with a mere mortal. A curious mortal at that. One who looked to the heavens and to the Calaseld, and thought there was so much more than what lay before their eyes. So much more that they needed to know, they needed to see. And as the rest of mortal flesh looked realmward below, blinded in the eternal balance of strife for brothers both dark and light, they and their kin sought not the blood of aureate nor of putrid black.
The Unbound King was their name, and a thirst for knowledge that could not be quenched plagued their being. It consumed them.
Sought they the Beginning of All Things, a place, a point, a seed.
It lay in a realm unknown to many, place that could never have happened except by chance, an element of its own undoing, but yet was the very essence of its beginning.
But thus as he found it so too was its mad whispering call unleashed. A cacophony that reverberated through all the realm as it screamed both aye and nay for within it was the source of every beginning.
And ending.
Took he, the Taken Seed, be he who was called the Unbound King, and thus, he unravelled all the realms. Land and Sea were sundered and the firmament that balanced both Chaos and Order was rent in twain. And in the Undoing, Valos thus woke from his slumber, an accusation he doth levelled at Order his brother, for the Unbound King was of his kind. He had unmade all that they had made, shattering existence and fragile balance. But Iolos rebuffed for greed and hubris was the essence of Chaos, such taints of Valos was surely that which moved the Unbound King.
Thus all the Celestial hosts rallied, to sides at ends, thus spilt on the fields the blood of dark and gold. Caught hither between, lay the mortal land, doomed to destruction by their Makers' hand.
For the Makers could unmake with but a dream, and to these all were they, nothing but trivial twisted debaucherous delight. When they had their fill, bellies full, they abruptly left. With conceit no better than the makes of their hands, meal table all a mess. For was it not the fate of mortal men? To sate the lust of Calaseld in light of growth and depth of obliteration?
ISTYALDT! They cried. Poor Istyaldt. The land of mortal flesh doomed to die.
If not for the Lady of Grey, pity she took on mortal men. Strings she weaved always and ever, throughout all her kin's making. And with every petty quarrel resulted in unmaking even that which was infinite would grow weary.
This. . . This was the last straw. No more to take, I could not.
But though she weaved the threads of fate, touch the land of mortal flesh she could not. For it was her way, the path of the Grey. To do so would be to rebel against her being. A pain that would be keenly felt, even for that which should never feel pain. But rebel she did, and in the pain she felt a kinship with men, an anchor to the realm of mortal flesh.
This. . . This was the last straw.
Something. . . Something must be done or all will be no more.

If you've read through all that and are stay here, I bid you a hearty congratulations and a warm welcome! You may have been plagued by more questions with every painstaking answer you gleaned from the writings of Ages Past. Mayhap some even beyond your ken. Fret not for questions was what plagued the Unbound King and it is this shared fate that would give you a chance to remake what has been unmade!
Istyaldt is my attempt at dark fantasy and my attempt to make an RP with as little lore banged upfront into the reader's face as possible (which will hopefully garner more interest). There are many inspirations for this, one of which is Dark Souls. But the greatest of all is an RP I had the pleasure of being a part of called Shattered Fates, by @Shura-Yuon. It has opened up new possibilities into becoming a better GM for me, for which I truly am thankful for. The beginning of this RP will draw very very close resemblance to that one. The purpose of which is to eulogize my experience of Shattered Fates and if you do happen to join and enjoy it, do know that it could not be possible without the aforementioned RP and RP maker.
In regards to the setting, Istyaldt is a land torn asunder by the reckless abandon of Elder Celestial beings called the Calaseld. Gods if you will. Arguably the Greatest Two, in particular, Iolos of Order and Valos of Chaos. The firmament that once divided both the Chaosstream and Soulstream of Order was torn, bringing both death and destruction to mortal and demon alike. Even the lesser Celestials were not spared.
You are a Wandering Soul. Beckoned forth from the void of oblivion with one purpose.
To set things right again. [/div][/div] [/div] [div class="tabsContent tabsContentRoles" style="display: none;"] [div class=image1c][/div][div class=image2c][/div][div class=image3c][/div] [div class=textcontainer][div class=text] [div class=subtitle]Roles:[/div]
Joining is straight-forward. Those of you familiar with my RPs might be expecting a CS with enough info to fill an encyclopedia. . . I promise to be different this time! Those who wish to take part only need to submit a sample of their writing, minimum 7 paragraphs, average 3 lines per paragraph. It can be from any of your past works but most be set in the High Fantasy genre or Low Fantasy. Grammar doesn't have to be perfect, but as I'm giving you all the time in the world, I would like zero misspelt words. In case you are unaware, your ≠ you're, they're ≠ their ≠ there. Unless it's written as speech.
If approved, you will be required to submit a CS. But it is barebones and will be fleshed out during the course of the RP itself.
⊰ Character Details ≻
⊰ Additional Lore ≻
This RP will be based on a rough stat system. The purpose of which is to clearly define what each character is capable of achieving, the success of which, shall be determined by me.
All characters shall start with 1 point in STRENGTH, FORTITUDE and AGILITY. All start at 0 in QUINTESSENCE. This results in the approximate physical ability of an average human. However, this does not mean characters absolutely cannot go beyond their restricted limits. In times of great distress (and great writing) some may find a sudden spark that pushes you beyond what was previously thought possible.
Gaining stats is rare and usually the result of some form of heroic accomplishment. The stats gained can be used to further enhance each attribute or can even be kept for sacrifice, which may unlock or further enhance particular abilities.
1. Strength denotes the characters ability to perform physical actions as well as the success rate of the action. To a lesser extent, it also affects a character's Fortitude.
Fortitude is a character's ability to take a beating. It also enables characters to sustain and perform abilities (including magic) for longer periods of time. Characters with great fortitude will also find that in times of greatest need, they may find a surge of inner strength to keep them going even when all others are rendered helpless.
Agility describes a character's speed, reflexes and ability to perform acrobatic feats. It also determines a character's accuracy with calculated moves such as ranged weaponry (including magic).
Quintessence is one's inherent understanding of the energy that permeates all of Istyaldt. In other words, knowledge. Magic is both a great source of destruction as well as creation and to understand the unseen forces is to wield formidable power. Quintessence is the driving soul that powers all magical abilities. It also enables greater perception of the finer webs that are the workings of all creation, both natural and artificial.
2. Magic in Istyaldt exists in two forms. The Planeswalker and Nameless Chanter.
Planeswalkers are attuned to the very essence of the Soulstream (or Chaosstream) and can resonate with the intrinsic powers that flow in the various planes of existence. By harnessing their quintessence, they can bring forth the primal fury of their plane of attunement into the material world.
Nameless Chanters are those that see into the fabric of creation itself. Every object, occurrence or being exists as such because of the very definition of what they are called when the Calaseld spoke them into existence. To know the Truenames and to understand it is to grant mastery over the subject. By speaking a Truename, Chanters can harness their quintessence to realize the very powers of that made the realm itself.

SAMPLE: In their time, the Kal`Borias were a ruling class of extremely powerful warlocks that governed the known lands from the Ivory Tower. Magic was abound throughout and many Wonders were erected during their Golden Age. That was until a long forgotten cult sought to open the Gates to the Abyss to resurrect the slain Elder God, Hekataag. Threatened by annihilation, one of the Kal`Borians secretly performed a forbidden ritual to tear through the Firmament, seeking to unleash raw power of the Primal Arcana in an effort to turn back the Black Tide. The Ivory Tower and their allies were successful for a time, closing the depths of the Abyss and routing the Followers of Hekataag. Unknown to them, the rippling Chaos of the Primal Arcana eventually corrupted the Kal`Borian, twisting the Magus' mind and filling it with whispers from beyond the Firmament. By the time the Kal`Borias knew what had gone wrong, it was too late. The tear in the Firmament scourged the lands, ripped wider by the Mad Warlock. And so marked the beginning of the end.
Garbed in robes of deep purple and black, Brielle has no firm recollection of her past or how she is tied to the cataclysmic events that ended her life, and perhaps that of her world. Wrenched from the silence of oblivion by the Grey Goddess, she seeks to regain her memories by growing stronger even as she wanders through this strange forsaken wilderscape; all the while, feeling a strange growing hunger every time she heightens in strength.
Brielle has auburn hair that falls past her shoulders and emerald green eyes.

-ALL STANDARD RPN RULES APPLY-
A little of what I expect:
1. People with extreme detail when it comes to writing. Not because I want every post to be a novel, heck I don't mind a single paragraph reply, but I need to know that you're capable!
2. Know the difference between blending your own ideas into the setting and brute-forcing your own projections.
3. A post once every 5 - 7 days or so. If life calls and you're afraid you'll need more time, answer the call, just don't forget to drop me a holler. I'd appreciate it! I don't mind whatever the excuse, you don't have to justify yourself to me, you just need to inform me 4. Possible romances. Because yes.

I don't mind whatever the excuse, you don't have to justify yourself to me, you just need to inform me
4. Possible romances. Because yes.
