Your characters were born as they were, but there powers don't develop until they turned into whatever your characters current age is. You character doesn't have to be an angel or demon specifically.
Because of their powers not developing sooner they think they're human, and their parents don't want to tell them what they are due to want to keep them away from the cruel magic world unless their parents don't know if your character is adopted or one of their parents are human and haven't been told about the strange world.
This is all if you're talking about Veiled World of course :3

You don't have to put it in the rp that she found out recently you can put it somewhere in your character sheet if you'd like or just tell me. You can also make it to where she suspect that she and her family were vampires, and when her family told her she can just kind of say, "I figured" or something similar to that. I just want them to not really know before they were 13... I'm sorry T-T

they got onto me a lot for the age I made my character my character doesn't even know what she is!! She *did* before she got a brain injury and lost all memory of when she was a wolf

With all due respect 11 is totally a child. AT BEST that's a pre teen. Maybe you could gone the dog years route, 2 years old as a wolf but physically 14. But as as the resident 老人 11 is definitely a kid ain't no way they in high-school. Especially in a place like Louisiana.
