Sorry, everyone. I had a minor setback and lost way more time than I would like. This next section should require 0 interaction from me, so if I fall off the face of the planet you can still complete it.

In this section, the group finds themselves in a futuristic location (image used is the danger room from X-men). The group is being held by invisible forcefields that negate ability usage, so everyone is forced to watch as each individual performs their test. The silver light will restore you back to full health after each of the three tests is complete, and the test design is up to you.

Post 1: Obstacle course. The design of this test is to challenge your character's use of their first power. Feel free to ask other people here what they think would be a good idea for you. IMPORTANT! Your character is supposed to fail this test. An element of the obstacle course should cause your character to discover what their second power is. Unlike the first time, how to use said ability was not downloaded into your head.

Post 2: Combat. The design of this test is to challenge your character's second ability. Create an enemy that counters your first power, but not your second. IMPORTANT! Your character is also supposed to fail this test. Failing in this case is becoming incapacitated in some way, either because you are unable to move, the health bar above your head is dropped below 10%, your character has a mental breakdown and stops fighting, etc.

Post 3: Survive. The design of this test is a combination of someone else's obstacle course and someone else's creatures. Select whichever would be the most fun for you to write about. Duplicates ARE allowed. IMPORTANT! Your character will "die" in this test. No matter how skilled, no matter how intelligently your character handles the situation, the difficulty continues to ramp up until they are overwhelmed. When they "die", the body and the test vanish. There is no silver light. At this point in the RP, your character is returned back to Earth just as their number is being called at the DMV. While they are there, they will receive another message from the system showing them their character profile, test results, and the option to be reassessed at the time of their choosing.

Questions:
  • Do we get complete freedom regarding what the second power is?
  • Why must the characters fail all three tests? Seems strange.
  • Are the three parts supposed to be written in three separate posts?

It does say posts,right there.

And I would assume that the intention of the plot is to show that our characters have more potential to grow, having just begun to explore their possibilities in terms of abilities and dimensional travel. Also so there's no need to make a scenario/dialogue based on who passes and how?

Answers:
  • Yes.

  • In part. Think of it this way, If you had create a test to see how good someone was at math and the test you created was "What is 1+1" you wouldn't know if the person knew how to subtract. Testing something until it fails is how you find its limits. Additionally, this set up is meant to artificially ramp up the feeling of dread and impending doom for the characters. They don't know that they aren't supposed to pass. What happens if they aren't valuable enough for whatever is creating these tests? Think about how much the stakes increase. Tests one and two are difficult, to be sure. Test three, the first person tested straight up dies. And then so does the second person....and the third....And now it is your turn.

  • Yup! It would be hard to do the third test without someone else posting tests one and two.
