Fantasy Hunt for a magic crystal

In a world where magic is commonplace, and users gather to do achieve a common goal, guilds have arisen. In these places, people gather to learn and study magic. The goals, while often honourable, can be all kinds of things. Some guilds have classes of theory, some have practice duels, and some sent their pupils on quests. Most guilds have their pupils available for hire once they reach a proper level.


In this RP we will follow a group of one such guild. These characters are from a smaller guild, the Silver Wolves, sent on an important quest by an important contractor. The king himself ordered this quest. The goal is to reclaim an important artefact that has been stolen.


Now that we have your attention with the shiny plot, here are some ways in which this world will function.

• Magic control is trained not innate.
  
• All species have the same innate amount of magic, all species need the same amount of training in magic.
  
• Magic can not control another sentient being.
  
• There are some objects that can do slight amounts of magic. Think lighters that use magic instead of gas. To use these objects you need to use some of your magic power to “charge” it.
  
• You can be any species you want, but you need to discuss "odd" ones (so anything but humans, elves or dwarves) with the mods first so that the world doesn't break because of their existence.

If you mean is everyone is a magic user, then yes. However, your character doesn't need to be a very high level magic user (yet), it all depends on what kind of back story you give your character. We want people to have as much fun with their characters as they can.

To fuel the flames, here's the plot for the RP itself, and some more detail to the world.


In a place where such powers exist, people exist who will abuse that power for personal gains. These people sometimes get together to make a guild, but these are called dark guilds. Dark guilds often work the same as regular guilds, they too accept different quests and jobs, for the right price of course. People often go to dark guilds when they need to take care of something in a less legal way.


Dragon Scale is one of these guilds. They are a group of criminals, murderers and thieves. In this guild are some of the worst people in the realm. Everyone fears them, even the government stays away from them. No one is stupid enough to go up against them, that is, until now.


For some reason, this dark guild has decided to steal something from the royal palace, something that can decide the fate of the entire realm. They have stolen one of the crystals that keep the magic balance in the world. Separated from the others, it can be turned into a powerful weapon.


The Royal family, wanting to keep things quiet, decided to contact a lesser know guild, The Silver Wolves. The Silver Wolves is one of the four oldest guilds in the country. They have a bit of a bad reputation due to some fall outs with the government, because of this people started to go to other guilds when they needed something done. Of course, they still get requests to do jobs, all though their methods can sometimes be considered unconventional, to say the least. As of this moment, the fate of the entire realm is in their hands.

I am quite interested.  Would it at all be possible to play as the "Guardian" of a mage, with limited magic abilities, rather than a full on mage myself?  A bit like an Eygon of Carim sort of character?

I don't think a guardian type would fit this setting, but if you want to your charater can have low level magic. You can also put that your character is very protective, if that's what you want to. I hope I managed to explain that  in a good way and that you're still interested in joining.
