I can see a story too, like there is a guy who is sick for some reason, like he's in the hospital and all he has to look forward to is his food, and then one day --- ramen merman in his ramen.

That's actually a very cute and somewhat sad story. My question would be 'how in the world...did Chenglei appear in Kenren's ramen bowl???'

I was thinking like there is this man who delivers his food and that's Chenglei, I wouldn't know what their relationship is, but for some reason a tiny merman version of him keeps appearing in his bowl --- to which he learns that the man delivering his food has feelings for him, but seriously Kenren thinks it's all a hallucination because he's sick --- and then somehow just by talking and stuff the sick man sort of like is determined to pick up his life and start anew after a surgery.

Hmmmm...Maybe merman! Chenglei is a representation of all the little affectionate things real!Chenglei is doing but Kenren is not seeing until he pulls himself together? Like subconsciously he picks up Chenglei's subtle care but he doesn't acknowledges it until Merman!Chenglei appears and then yea...silliness ensues.

I'm guessing since it's about a man braving through surgery, this is modern day. Then I wonder what made Chenglei like Kenren?....Oh! Wait...maybe Chenglei and Kenren were childhood friends that were forced apart while kids and that they are grown, Kenren doesn't remember him as much?
