Hill-Crushing Heroes

Who are they? Where are they? Why are they? I have only heard their name mentioned, vaguely, around, but I can't remember reading anything specific. Does anybody have a page reference?

They were mentioned in the 1E Abyssal book as a group of Immaculate trained students of Earth Dragon Style who combined their mastery of Earth Dragon Style with native Terrestrial charms and were supposedly tough. Of course in the same micro fic some Emo with a big sword killed one with no real effort. Either she was wrong about what a Hill Crushing Hero truly is, or someone didn't know how to use their charms. It can be found on page 75 of the 1E Abyssals book.

HIll-Crushing Heroes = (Earth Dragon Style + Terrestrial Resistance/ Athletics Charms)  x (suitably pretentious title). Dudes who could crush a hill, presumably.

The Abyssal fiction bit was a tad more nuanced, LK; Maiden of the Mirthless Smile was of the opinion that if she'd let herself get hit, she would've died. She just fought smart and nasty against an unsophisticated enemy whose tactics were predictable.

Hmm, thank guys! That helps even though the texts are a bit more vague than what I thought they were. I found a reference in Aspect Book: Earth that says most hill-Crushing Heroes are Earth aspects - I guess some are not. I feel that for such a cool name, something really cool could be done with them. Has anyone done anything in particular?

Anyway, thanks for the references!

I've done nothing with them as a group.  But DB's with Goremauls and Earth Dragon style are awesome and I've used them a few times.

Indeed they are...why i said that someone didn't know how to use their charms. If done right...Mr. Hill Crusher probably just broke Emo-girl's Grand Daiklaive over his knee, completely unsuprised by the attack. Awareness is one of an Earth Aspects aspect abilities...and not getting caught by suprise is a basic common sense charm to get. Despite lacking a true combat ability, Earth Aspects are bloody scary. Though, well, 99% of them end up being Martial Artists for some reason...what with it being the only route to not having a surcharge on combat charms without mastering a Dragon Path out of element.

Now there just needs to be fancy names for the rest of the aspects

like a Flame Crushing...Flamer...or something of that nature

Well so long as they mix Immaculate Martial Arts with Secular charms, i still dont get though why the earth ones get a special name

you would think that with time it would be a natural eventuality to pick up a few secular charms to add to your Martial Arts

Flame Crushing...Flamer
I have this horrible image of a squad of flamboyanly gay Exalts prancing around in the latest episode of "Qeer eye for the straight Exalt"

exalted the musical

"on three boys, ah one, ah two, ah thuree!"

"Wyld Hunt!"

*insert snappy musical number*

"We are the Hill Fuh-Laming Heroes!"

"we work hard and play hard"

With John Travolta in drag like he was in Hairspray

"I'm just a tee-nage half-ape bay-bee

Servant of rak-si some-day may-bee

why don't you cooome and eat some bay-bees with me

oo-oo-oo-ooooooh!"

I apoligise for nothing

cept maybe the first one cos it's prolly more offensive than entertaining

I refuse to apologise for the second one....

(apart from to the writer of teenage half-orc, but then he just copied teenage dirtbag and changed the words so screw him)

I have no quarrel with your mockery of the 'teenage dirtbag' song; it deserves to be mocked. But the idea of "flaming gay" Terrestrials is especially silly given that the practice of homosexuality and effeminacy are considered totally different in the Realm.

Very true.  However, I do not live in the Realm, and as such, am a victim of our society's negative view of the homosexual lifestyle.  While I do not consder myself to be prejudiced, that does little to remove a lifetime's worth of stigma that has been programmed into me.  If I have offended anyone with my bad sense of humor, I appologize.  It just happened that, as I mentioned in my earlier post, the 'Flame Crushing Flamer' name made me think of the 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' show's name.

Yeah, no matter what exists in the fiction world stuff will carry over.  For instance a Lunar having sex with goats is mock worthy even though it's a different rule system in Exalted when it comes to dealing with that.  Instead of going to jail you get awesome henchmen!

Inspired by this thread, I built a 2E Hill-Crushing Hero for use as an antagonist in my Lunars game. I gave him 150 experience points to represent some time in the field, but otherwise built him according to the book.

His damage is absolutely monstrous: with Strength 4 and a white jade grand goremaul, he throws 21L/6. He has a Combo that includes Falling Star Maneuver, Mountain-Toppling Method and Force of the Mountain, which adds another 10-14 to his raw damage, so I'm going to flat-out tell my players that they cannot let this guy hit them. He also has a respectable soak, between 2-dot armor, the Earth anima power, and ED Charms.

So in answer to the question, "What is a Hill-Crushing Hero," my reply would be: a fuckin' TANK.

So...  a DB could easily taken on an Abyssal?

Wow. I didn't know Terrestrials could take out Celestials so easily. Especially Day castes who have nasty stealth charms.

And don't confuse the death knights with 1ed World of Darkness vampires. There's some emo/goth kids in the book, but the majority of them aren't fucking around...  are they, Hanat?

If they are properly built they don't go down anywhere near that easy. Particullarly not Earth aspect Earth Dragon Stylists...even less ones that are supposedly elite. I've seen such rip through entire groups of Celestial Exalts in game alone before...if they use their abilities well. Certainly not going down in two swings and not having the sense to have Awareness charms. If its easy to get, in aspect and quite likely to save your life easilly...you're a fool not to get it. Unexpected attacks are very dangerous.

I'd honestly have to agree.  Terrestrials lack only a few things in comparison to Celestials: Mote pool sizes and Power/Efficiency of Charms.  Now while both of those are definitely big and important differences, the Terrestrials can make up for that with their free Reflexives and the Immaculate Dragon MAs, which can be brutal when used right.  There's no reason to believe that an experienced Terrestrial would not give Celestials some problems. A properly-built Hill-Crushing Hero can be a veritable nightmare.
