Futuristic ℋ℮їґṧ: SIGMA (Sci-Fi/Powers/Interstellar Warfare RP)

Adrian

Fireteam Nexus began to spiral into chaos as the strange Slime Creatures all descended upon us. I started off with precise bursts from my HoloRifle, but the sheer volume of the Slimes forced me to blindly fire into the toxic enemy mass. The two newcomers, Corporal John Carboni and Corporal Lucas Seidal, are on the verge of a mental breakdown. I feel for the two, since they signed up to fight the Smierc Collective and its Mortus Troopers, not some creepy Slimes that had human-like skulls for faces.

"This is getting pretty bad. Noa, any indications of an exit window?"
"Unable to compute a no-risk escape route. Next least-risky route contains 20% risk of death."
"Oh boy..."

With that analysis in mind, I activated my Focus Crystal Blade and thrust myself towards the incoming mass of Slimes. Thanks to the sharp Crystal Blade, I start to deal some real damage before being forced back with what appeared to be a slimy mass of fists. After that, a blood-curling screech forced Fireteam Nexus to cower for a second and cover our ears. Even our KAISYS armor's helmets are unable to completely block out the screech, despite being rated for battlefield sound conditions.

That's when I saw Corporal Katherine's ( Henrypika Henrypika ) IFF tags on the HUD.

I quickly order my Fireteam to provide some room for the Corporal and what appears to be Fireteam Omaha as well ( LoneSniper87 LoneSniper87 ).

"Good to see you Corporal Katherine and Fireteam Omaha. We thought we were goners."

Just as I was about to relay important information on our new foes to our newly arrived reinforcements, the Slimes began to coalesce into a massive, massive Slime Creature. It seemed to resemble a demented ork, just like in the fantasy novels of hundreds of years ago, with a massive skull mask to boot.

"Open fire!", I yelled to Fireteam Nexus.

Katherine

"Jeez," I hissed, "John, do you always whine this much?" My voice was starting to distort and get slightly deeper. I can feel an itch run through. I tried coughing, but things just don't feel right. My voice going hoarse, I quickly say, "Get over here. Sending map."

"Katherine," Brother said, "You're not doing what I think you're doing. It's not the time."

"It's not something I can't control, but things are a little different now." Wisps of blue flame were starting to appear as my hands and knees drop to the floor and my gun transfers itself to its respective place.

The feeling stopped, and I looked down to find myself on four paws. Just like at home. I sent the blue flames streaking across the walls of the corridor, leaving a trail of fire lighting the whole way, and casting everything in an eerie blue. The air went cold despite what fire is supposed to do.

Now with enough light, I can see the enemy in front, so I ran up, and jumped into a frontflip over Morrison's head and slamming my tails into the skull mask, leaving flames on it, before pushing off of it and landing on two on Miller's left, and then swinging around to face our enemy again.

"You know, this isn't very different than what I had at home. I never had those specifically, but I did fight monsters before. Heck, I think I'm one myself." I came around 3 feet tall by my estimate, standing beside Miller.

I watched as Katherine turned into this... I have no clue what to call her. I watched as she ran up and attacked the monster, leaving it on fire as she retreated to my side, almost reminding me of a pet. I glanced at her, then the part of my Fireteam that followed. "Fire at will!" I shouted, pulling up my rifle and letting a shot fly, nailing a solid shot into his chest.

Joachim

Looks like the team is doing something with the opening created by the dropship ramming the defenses. Good flying for that pilot. Unfortunately, he's dead. Ah well.

I change my stance, preparing to move, as does the rest of Fireteam Comet, when a fresh wave of crystal bolts land all around our positions, keeping us in place. The Dziki corpse that Danny was taking cover behind fell over, directly onto him, its back smoking from a crystal bolt lodged in it.

I peek over, through a hole that was created by a crystal bolt, to spot the source of the incoming fire. Turns out, a few Berserkers and a dozen Mortus Knights are still holding out, huddled near what appears to be a maintenance station. Walls of chitin manifest out of nowhere, apparently one of their abilities, keep them from being torn to shreds by our holo-bolts. Still, it doesn't protect them from explosives, like grenades and mortars, as demonstrated by a Mk. 10 Mortar round completely splattering a Knight, along with its chitin armor piece.

"Fireteam Comet, suppressing fire! Dav, use your abilities! Let's go!" I said, unleashing a torrent of holo-bolts, as did everyone else in the Fireteam. Davo looked around for something to use, and he quickly found it, though I was too busy to see what he grabbed at first. The questions were gone, by the time I saw an entire dropship engine fly past my head, splattering 3 Knights and a Berserker, before exploding and killing the rest.

I turn back to him, and gives him a thumbs up. He nods, bringing up his LMG. The Sabre Corps troops could now move freely, and cries for help arise from the wreckage. Field medics move through the bodies, whilst veteran soldiers, scavenge the dead for ammo and batteries. Some quick-witted soldiers rummage through dead Mortus Knights, taking Revival Serums to treat their friends whose heads weren't shot to a pulp.

As we entered the corridor, suddenly, things got colder. Even stranger, there were streaks of blue flames throughout the corridor. The flame intensify as we get near the place where Fireteam Nexus and... the other guys are reported to be. Fireteam Omaha? Yeah, those guys too. Some terrible noise supposedly came out earlier, but I couldn't hear it over the engine exploding.

I could hear gunfire ahead. Seems like they've opened fire. I identify myself as I come in, although I do away with that once I saw what they were up against. "Comet, coming innnwwwWWHOAAA WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?" I was spooked by the ghastly sight. What a terrible creature, made of slime, and the skull on the top, with a fiery residue left by- oh shit, is that Katherine? I learn new things every day.

"Fucking shoot at it!" I yelled the obvious, as my entire Fireteam opens up all at once. That's the kind of thing I expected, from a Fireteam led by the most gung-ho Twisted Wolf in the Sigma Sector, probably. They never fail to deliver unrelenting fire, although accuracy takes a back seat during these moments. The holo-bolts litter the creature's body, and I project a flame torrent, as my LMG runs out of ammo, with my left hand spewing hot flames, whilst my right awkwardly tries to reload the thing.

Dav used his ability again, albeit more creatively. He used a mortar round he still had for his broken mortar, priming the fuse, and then, with his fantastic throwing power, threw it full force directly at the beast, hitting dead on the skull. His throw was so great, that apparently the mortar round dug in a good 3 inches before the detonator went off, dealing probably a lot of damage to the thing. He's starting to wobble a bit, though. Not standing straight. He's straining his power. So am I.

Katherine

"Check your fire! Check your fire! (Miller, I told you I wasn't all the way human.)" I shouted, dodging stray bolts from some panicky Comet members, confused at whether I was the target or the giant thing that was the one that's trying to kill them.

I swear, after this, the discrimination is going to come back. AGAIN. Bound, blindfolded and gagged. AGAIN.

The thoughts sent another surge through me and I channeled it into blowing another stream of normally tinted fire, orange, straight into the slime thingy. "Morrison? Do you have any idea what that thing is? At least give us a possible weak point."

Also, if my theory is correct, Joa should be a little better on his own healing factor.

Adrian

Hmm, I noticed the fox-ears, but never thought about how Corporal Katherine could probably turn full fox as part of her ability set. A bit weird that I didn't think about that possibility, considering that other Silentians probably have even weirder powers than that. Anyways, I saw the Slime Hulk, as I decided to name it, writhe in pain for a moment as Fireteam Comet arrives to provide more fire support.

"Glad you could join us Fireteam Comet."
"As for a weak point, Corporal Katherine, I could only fancy that the skull mask might be a target, since it recoiled from it the most. Let's take that Slime Hulk down!"

I quickly jumped into the air with the aid of the Booster Pack and grappled my way towards the Slime Hulk's skull mask, driving my Focus Crystal Blade deep into one of its glowing eye sockets. The Slime Hulk lets out a massive roar and throws me off of its body, forcing me into a compromising position while Fireteam Nexus covers my back.

DM

The Slime Hulk, a previously unknown asset of the Smierc Collective, rises up from its earlier wounds. Already, its wounds are being filled in with more of its slime matter, as the Slime Hulk lets out a devastating roar to intimidate its enemies. Without a moment to react, the Slime Hulk fires off multiple blobs of its own slime, already a corrosive substance, to try and melt the Sabre Corps and Twisted Wolves.

Joachim

As some of my men, notably Danny and John, were sort of panicked at the sudden order and the unholy sight of that Slime thing, mistakenly shot at Katherine, due to her fox form, I quickly adjust their fire. "YO, WRONG MONSTER, WRONG MONSTER, THE BIG ONE!" I yelled, also in a rush due to the adrenaline. I might've insulted her with that, but I didn't pay any attention to that at all.

The monster, which I will refer to as Slimy for convenience's sake, seems to be regenerating its wounds extremely quickly. Guess Slimy's living up to it's name. As it fires off multiple blobs of its own slime, and everyone scrambles to dodge them, I took an unlucky hit from a splatter of blob. Fortunately, I didn't get horribly burnt. It just hit my-

"FOR FUCK'S SAKE!" I screamed out, angered by the damage the slime did to my gun. And I just reloaded it too. I drop my LMG, pulling out my Strajk, whilst closing in, finger squeezing on the trigger, crystal bolts landing on the skull mask, with my left hand summoning a Fire Claymore, headed towards it, screaming at the top of my lungs.

I'm getting a bit weak from the constant switching of my powers, but they were regained partially, thanks to my passive ability, as we walked past that burning engine Dav threw, the blue flames that oddly don't generate heat in the corridor, and the amount of energy I'm absorbing from Katherine's current form, especially the torrent of fire that she's using against Slimy, have been of tremendous use. I'm starting to like her better this way. I mean, I still appreciate her marksmanship, of course.

"Did you just call her a monster!?" I shouted, rushing forward and raising a shield again, probsbly not my best idea as I was already feeling the beginnings of a headache, though this was from stress, but I was starting to hit my limit. The slime hit my shield and chewed through it, leaving holes in it from the initial impact before it slid down harmlessly to the ground. "Katherine is far from a monster! She is one of us!" I said, then proceeded to fire the now innefective shield at the thing, hopefully doing something. The dull throbbing in my head hit a sharp pain right then, and I ducked down into cover to avoid getting hit as I held up helmet, letting the pain subside.

Joachim

As my Strajk unloads crystal bolts into the skull, I dashed forward and went for a slash on the monster's left leg. The cut went through the slime like nothing, although it began regenerating very quickly. Some New Union soldiers have also showed up, and are beginning to frantically fire at the thing. An unlucky bastard gets corroded by the slime, his horrible screaming barely audible above all the gunfire.

I jump up on its back, my IRESS' shield appearing wherever I made contact with its slime. The shield is quickly dropping from the corrosion properties of this damn thing. I give it two stabs in the back, continuing the constant stabbing as I climbed up to the top, where I was inches away from the skull.

I press my Strajk against the skull (it was rather difficult, as most of the holo-bolts were also flying my way), and unleashed the remainder of my magazine. I stood up on its back, and did a spectacular jump off of it, turning midway to throw my sword directly at the skull. It missed, instead lodging itself within the creature's neck.

My IRESS gives way, as a piece of slime hits my leg just as Miller's shield flies past me. I hit the ground, and Parkins shows up to drag me back, whilst summoning his IRESS to block another chunk of slime that was going to fry my face off. My head is all kinds of hurt from the maneuver and the power consumption.

As I was brought back into cover, I could hear Miller yelling at me. Something about calling Katherine a monster. I recollect my recent memories, and snap back at her. "I know she's one of us, goddammit! Not everything I say is literal! We're a team, I know that, and if we could just stop bitching about some word I said mid-battle, and actually concentrate on killing this slimy fuck, I'd really appreciate that!"

My buddy Dav cuts in, handing me a spare battery pack, and my trusty LMG. "Oi, that's enough, mates! We need to fight this thing, you can bicker later! Concentrate fire!" He said, before turning to open fire on the skull. I install the battery pack, my IRESS whirring back to life, back for another beating. My gun's halfway corroded, but can still fire. The front right of the receiver has melted off, exposing a smoking bolt extract mechanism, and Dav has also graciously fed a new magazine into my gun, seeing as the last one was melted as the slime flowed down from the receiver and into the holo-bolts.

I look forward, bringing my gun up to fire, when I spot a peculiar thing. My Claymore, the one that was lodged in the thing's throat, had collapsed to a primitive form, something akin to that ancient substance, thermite, and is now flowing through the beast, cutting a path through the slime, although it closes on itself the moment the fire goes through. Where is the thing getting the slime from?

Anyway, the fire cut directly through, and finally flowed out of Slimy's... asshole? Whatever, the bottom of the creature, spreading itself evenly on the floor. I noticed that the floor is also melting, from the intensity of the flames. It doesn't look strong enough to support the monster for long.

I glance over to Davo, and he picks up on what I mean. He pulls out another one of his mortar rounds, primes it, and gives it a normal throw onto the floor directly beneath Slimy.

Katherine

I could feel my face flush in embarrassment from being called a monster, which I pretty much am, but immediately felt better as Joa seemed to be less tired with the assist. In fact, everyone seemed to be a little more energized after the last stream.

While I was cringing at the ear-piercing roar, I took a direct hit from a slime blob, melting through the thin armor and then burning me as it slowly slid off, leaving a numb spot on my side, suppressing the tingling feeling as it repaired itself. Speaking of the armor, it felt extremely clumsy, and it was slowing me down considerably, even with how thin and 'lightweight' it was. No wonder I couldn't dodge the slime.

Letting my left front paw pass over the leftover flames, I launched myself on the beast's mask as soon as Joachim was flung, breathing another stream of fire, point blank in its left eye, before falling backwards off of the beast. No way was I going to bite that thing without getting hurt.

Something ablaze flowed out of the slime's body, like lava, spreading itself out on the floor and causing it to melt. A sparkling canister came up to meet it and exploded into a fireball and sending shrapnel into my face, leaving a few cuts on me, but the floor was starting to creak from the heat and the recent explosion.

DM

The Slime Hulk buckles from the mortar explosion, as the Smierc Collective ship's floor gives out from the combined pressures of acidic slime and an explosion. With a scream, the Slime Hulk falls into the newly formed hole between the floors of the Smierc Collective flagship, as it disappears from sight.

Meanwhile, Commander Perez of the Scouting Fleet receives news that the New Kronan Defense Fleet is now engaging the Smierc Collective's attack fleet. With that news in mind, he quickly orders that the Sabre Corps hurry up with their destruction of the enemy flagship. With their flagship destroyed, the Smierc Collective will not be able to hold the assault for much longer.

"This is Commander Perez of the NUSS Artemis III and Commander of the Scouting Fleet Spero. The New Kronan Defense Fleet has finally arrived to repel the enemy fleet. Sabre Corps and Twisted Wolves, you must destroy the enemy flagship quickly so that we can get you all out without being caught in a potential friendly fire situation with the Defense Fleet. Commander out."

Adrian

Now that the Slime Hulk is gone, we can get to the hyperspace reactor room without being bogged down. From what I could tell, it seems that the Slime Hulk was the last means of defense for the reactor room. Already, I could tell that the Smiercs are going to send down Mortus Troopers to secure the reactor room before we could set the charges.

That's when the comms came in from the Commander. Looks like we'll need to hurry up. At least the New Kronan Defense Fleet should be able to repel the enemy from our capital planet.

"Let's get a move on, we've got to get the explosive charges set in that reactor room, ASAP.", I yelled at my nearby friendly units.

As I led Fireteam Nexus into the reactor room, I am greeted with an intense first impression of blue lights everywhere. It seems to be a bit of a familiar shade of blue, which is strange since I don't recall ever seeing such intense blue lights before. Anyways, I order Sergeant Amis to lead the Fireteam to secure the area, while I begin to set the explosive charges around the reactors to start a chain reaction of destruction.

Joachim

Well...

That happened.

I calm down, as the adrenaline fades gradually from my bloodstream. Is that how adrenaline works? I never bothered to remember. The corrosive pain began to sting me, as I let out a fairly audible hiss. Parkins takes the hint, and inserts a Medpack into my suit. Standard insertion, painkillers and healing gel. Eased the pain, though I'm not sure I can say the same for Katherine, who took a face full of shrapnel from Davo's mortar throw.

Nexus & Friends began moving towards the reactor room, and big boy Perez also comes in on the comms. Ah, the Defense Fleet has arrived. About time. I give orders to the other Sabre Corps troopers, a Fireteam Iowa or something, to head down the hole and confirm Slimy's death. They seem confused, since I'm basically a mercenary giving orders to at least a bunch of Corporals. And then they dawdled around for a while, playing the age old game of "You first".

My friend Dav hung around for a bit, whereas the rest of us moved ahead, right behind Nexus. I instructed everyone else to follow Nexus, while I hung around, waiting for my friend. He approached Katherine, still in her monster- I mean, other form. That's still a touchy subject.

He noticed that she recoiled a bit as the mortar round went off. He walked up to her, with a worried voice.

"Gee, you alright there, Foxy? Sorry about the shrapnel, here's a medpack for you if you need it. Or not, 's fine. Sorry though." He said, holding a medpack in his hand.

Katherine

"Naw, naw. I'm fine." I waved off the Medpack, though as my extra energy faded out, I noticed I should probably go get an apple. Or a bite from some Smierc hand. I shook out the thought out of my head before calmly licking my paw to get it wet and then wiping the blood off of my face.

There was very little blood for someone who got showered in shrapnel, but then again, I'm not your ordinary person. With that done, I start making my way back to the hangar, peeking around the corner to see whether there were any Troopers coming in.

Well, I literally bumped into one. A shriek of surprise from the one I bumped into caught me off guard and I stumbled backward before regaining my footing to see 5 Knights, all with rifles and shotgun, recklessly charging towards me. One with a shotgun sent 3 pellets into my side as I backtracked in my own surprise and pain. I spit an orange fireball into my attackers, sending them all into flames, and then laid down a wall of blue flames to stop them in their tracks.

A torrent of crystal bolts came through the flames, with one whistling past my ear, but most of them missing, either sparking off the walls or the floor. I quickly ran back through the halls to block off the other end, where enemies were still making their way around the corner to flank us. I swapped over to my comms, "Guys, Mortus Knights inbound. I blocked their path, but I'm not sure for how long."

I growled as Jao bit back at me, my head throbbing. "S- fuck..." I muttered, closing my eyes and gritting my teeth. I heard the monster fall through the ground, and slowly opened my eyes, shaking my head as I slowly rose. "Sorry man... I get pissed off easy when I have a headache." I apologized, looking down and heading off to the reactor. "Good to know Katherine, meet at the reactor, we need to talk strategy with everyone else.

Katherine

I make my way over to the reactor, where I met Nexus and the other Fireteams. "Well, in case you weren't listening to your comms, Mortus Knights are inbound. They're blocked off by walls of fire, but I'm not sure if it'll block them for very long."

I took note of my surroundings, a tower-like pillar dominating most of the dimly-lit, blue room, scaffolding linking the outer walls to the reactor itself. The air had a cold feel, but it wasn't like the fire that I put up in the hall. That one was more... creepy feeling.

I walked up to Morrison, who was busy setting up explosive charges along the reactor's base, "So, Captain, how are we going to go about this? We need a plan on how to make our way out of the ship before its big bang."

I looked around the room, taking note of the scaffolding that was partially shrouded in darkness. "We can get a few snipers on the far end here, then maybe one of two on the opposite side to watch all out angles." I supposed, then glancing around once more. I heard Katherine talk about an exit strategy and one just popped into my mind. "Everyone has oxygen left, yeah?" I asked, looking at everyone. "Let's say we get a charge... Here." I said, pulling up a 3D holo map thanks to my A.I. and pointing a part of the wall the led to empty space. "We blow that, then use debris from the explosion to move further away from the ship, then detonate it when we are safe. After we have a New Union ship pick us up, any objections?"

Joachim

After moving forward to the reactor room, and Katherine running into a few Smierc baddies on the way, we are now in the reactor room, about to blow this tin can to bits. The room lit with blue lights, kind of like the blue flames Katherine left, but this wasn't Katherine's doing. Creepy.

As Miller began talking about the exit strategy,I ordered Fireteam Comet around, setting up choke points and kill zones for the incoming Knights. After everyone was set, my AI regurgitates the strategy back to me. "Sounds like a good plan." I replied back. Davo helped out Fireteam Nexus, by setting his own charges onto the reactors.

"I've got a pilot who can fly us all out. He's the one we rode in with. Carlie says he's all patched up now. Old geezer, but he's a great pilot. One of the dropships in the hangar ought to be operational. He'll get it up and running." I added to the exit plan, and doing so accordingly, calling the guy up and telling him to circle outside our position ASAP. Speaking of Carlie, I tell him to get up on those scaffolding things in the darkness, and provide sniper support.

(yea I'm gonna have to drop out. I don't have time to juggle 3 role plays. Thanks for the fun though. I might come back if I get some time off!)

Katherine

"Alright. I'll be up above the entrance if you need me." With that I jumped, climbing using the small cracks in the wall to get up to the top most platform above the main entranceway. I shifted back to 'normal' in the darkness, when a familiar metallic, screeching noise came from under my clothes.

"Ahh shoot. There goes the armor." I didn't even have to check to know that it was the armor. Other than that, my voice was back to normal. Heh.

I took off my rifle and dialed down the scope, loading in a fresh crystal magazine into the hybrid receiver, slowly, loudly, and deliberately chambering in the next bolt to signal to the other recons to hurry the fuck up.

"Mortus Knights are now advancing in the hall and judging by the large blobs in the corridors, I'd say about 30 or so. They're moving awfully slow though..." I tapped the controls on my DA to recall my drone, and then zoomed up on the large mass of blips. "Hey, what are the chances of them being zombies?" I joked, "I mean, they had giant slime things and a mysterious green energy wave. What else is next?"

Adrian

The leader of Fireteam Nexus, Joachim, got a pilot of his readied up in a dropship in the enemy's hangar. That should be enough to get us all out before getting consumed by the explosion.

"Keep in mind folks, we're setting up remote detonators so that we can just set the charges off as we get off the ship."

Sergeant Amis and the rest of Fireteam Nexus are now reporting in a large concentration of Mortus Knights from one of the entrances to the reactor room, as did Corporal Katherine.

"Corporal Katherine, the chances of an entirely alien society conforming to our societal construct of 'zombies' is extremely small. Cut the chatter and let's do our jobs. I'm sending Fireteam Nexus under Sergeant Amis' leadership to your position to help defend the room from the Smiercs, over."

With that said, I am about 75% done with setting the charges for the reactor room. Noa keeps me up to date with the situation brewing outside, so that I can stop if need be at about 85%, which is enough to do the job with a small chance of failure.

"So we've gone from aliens to zombie aliens? I feel like I'm in a movie already..." I joked, walking over to Katherine to point out a spot to her that was level with the door. "I want you over there with some Dragonfire rounds please, I think a little extra surprise is in order for this batch." I said, "But I support wherever you nest. It's your call, I call always get some of Comet to form an MG nest." I added. I quickly chambered a round, catching the unspent round with a quick hand motion, despite me almost dropping it. "Alright, just to add on, I want everyone out of the view of that door until I drop this bolt." I said, holding it up.

"When it does, everyone needs to unleash motherfucking armageddon, yeah? We defend until these charges are set and the transport is in position." I said, the last part mainly toward my own fireteam. After that I climbed myself up onto a scaffolding that was above the door, but had good intersecting lines of fire for killzones. "I'm in position Captain Morrision, let me know the ground troops are all ready." I said.
