2000 IQ Killjoy Detective
Suddenly, Mars felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. For a few seconds he was curious of who it could be, but remembering it was Saturday he instantly remembered. "Could you hold on for just a second, Ami? My dad just texted me." Every Saturday his father sent him a message along with a file that included a case for him to solve. Sometimes it was a simple mystery from a novel, and sometimes it was a very complicated case. Either way, it was something fun that the two of them had been doing ever since Mars had went to Hawthorne, and the fact that his dad was nice enough to send him a cash reward every time he solved one was just an added bonus. However, when he flicked open his phone and opened the text, it wasn't like the usual messages he received.

Hey Mars, how's it going? Well, I have another case for you, but instead of sending the file through text, I sent it through email, because this is a much bigger case than any of the others I've given you, and it wouldn't be a good idea to solve this one on your phone. Also, don't worry about having this one done by next week, as I haven't even solved it yet. In fact, this is an unsolved case. Well, good luck, and hope school is treating you well. See ya, little detective!
Mars' eyes shot wide open with excitement. He had helped his dad solve cases before, but that was when the two of them were working together. This was completely up to him to solve by himself. He could hardly wait till he could start working on this project. Snatching the wraps he just gave Ami out of her hands, he turned and started into a sprint. "Sorry, something just came up. Maybe some other time." He started wrapping his arm frantically as he ran down the hall and to his room, wincing from the repeated pain he caused himself. He felt kind of bad, leaving Ami so unexpectedly, but he felt that he did a good enough job at welcoming her to the school. Plus, it wasn't like it was his only chance to show her around town, though he may not be free in the future. Either way, he didn't want to wait very long to get a look at this new case. By the time he reached the dorms, his arm was all bandaged up.

Bursting into his room, he sat down at the table his computer was on and opened up his email, only just noticing Geno was already there. He was reading one of Liams books, as Mars distinctly remembered the professor lending him it last year. "Hey Geno, how'd your date go?" Anyone with eyes could tell he was asking purely out of formality, as he was focused completely on the monitor in front of him. Spotting the email his father had mentioned, Mars immediately clicked it, causing a rather large file to be downloaded to his computer. Upon inspecting the file, he noticed it was a folder, and upon opening it, he was flooded with information. There were files on almost everything that would be needed in a case, including information on witnesses, possible suspects, residents of the area, old newspapers, and videos on interviews of the past. There was so much information that Mars could barely hold in his excitement. Clicking on the first file, which he assumed was what his father had intended since the rest was organized into folders, he finally learned exactly what he was going to be dealing with from a newspaper dated almost 6 months
ago.
Man found dead, local serial killer suspected.
At first Mars believed it was some other criminal, but upon reading the article his thoughts were changed. Where he had grown up, there was a murder that had happened when he was six, and every six months after that someone else died. People suspected it was done by the same person because the same weapon seemed to be used for every murder. The authorities had obviously never caught him, so Mars felt extremely intimidated by this. How was he supposed to solve something that his father wasn't able to for 11 years? Shaking his head, he tried to bring himself back into the correct mindset. You can do this. As long as you focus, you should be able to figure out who it is. Despite his encouragement, he still had doubts. Opening the folder marked Newspapers, he began pouring over information.
