"But.. but I am. You're leaving. And Eliza and Burr hate me. I don't have any friends left..." Alexander raised a shaking hand to wipe away Washington's tears. "All I have is you, Dad... and you're leaving."

"I may be gone.. But I'm always here." He whispered and pointed to his heart. "Your free to call me at any time.. They don't hate you Alexander, they care for you, hell I heard you and Mr. Jefferson talked for awhile, people don't hate you."

"I'm starting to doubt I have a heart." Alexander whispered. He'd gone back to feeling like a shell. "Thomas and I don't get along. We never have. And Madison took Jefferson's side. The world has turned it's back on my again, and this time it's not turning to face me no matter hold loud I holler."

"Son. Stop." He raised his voice, "You have to realize, people can change, and that people care for you, you just have to show them you care back, if you think that you'll never get along with him, then you won't."

Alexander broke into sobs again at the word Son. It alienated him instead of welcomed him. He was nobody's son. That cut him deeper than any sort of weapon could. He pulled the blanket over his head to try to escape from the world, like a six year old would.

Washington took the blanket off his head, "Just read son." He whispered, and laid him down. "Take a break, if you need me, just call." He said with a soft smile, and walked off, moving some boxes.

Alexander curled up and tried to sleep. Everytime he was close to sleeping, he'd remember something traumatic from his past and his eyes would jump open again. It was torturous. The sound of boxes moving was worse. He didn't want to think about Washington leaving. He didn't want to think about anything like that. He wanted a tub of ice cream and morphine to numb his emotional pain.

"Hamilton?" He asked, "Do you need anything..?" He knew that he should of left him alone, but he wanted him to feel at home, even if Hamilton didn't want to. "You hungry?"

Alexander shook his head. "No." he whispered. "Unless you have some industrial strength morphine, I don't think anything's gonna make the pain go away."

"No.. I got some ice cream sandwiches though.." Washington mumbled, "I don't even think I would know anyway to get that stuff."

"Ice cream sounds good." Alexander whispered. He realized he hadn't eaten in days. No matter. He'd be fine without food.

Washington nodded and came back with three ice cream sandwiches, "These are the best." He said with a smile.

Alexander sat up to find his hands still shaking. He frowned and tried to still them, but the only shook faster. "I... I think I broke my brain." Alexander joked, trying to mask his terror with humor.

Washington put his hands over his, "Just breath, you'll be fine." He reassured him and opened the first package. "Eat." He said and handed it to Alexander.

Alexander took the sandwich and bit off a large chunk. He chewed it and swallowed. Unfortunately, Alexander felt queasy right after eating it. His starving body was shocked to have discovered food, and was struggling to remember how to digest it. Alexander looked down at his feet and waited for the feeling to pass. "So where are you and Martha moving to again?" Alexander asked softly.

"Back to Virginia. Close to DC." He answered, "She wanted to move to Illinois or Michigan, but I managed to convince her to let us to Virginia, considering it was closer to all of you." Washington chuckled, "If I'm correct, the band was planning to take a trip to DC? If that's the case, I'll be sure to try to be around, you know. If your principal lets me." He joked.

Alexanders face went light with shame. He didn't want to tell Washington he quit band. "Y-yeah. In march." Alexander said softly. He could imagine how disappointed Washington would be when he found out Alexander quit band.

"Are you okay..?" He asked, and patted him on the back, "Something you're not telling me..?" He frowned. Washington got up and threw away the wrapper, "I won't be upset, I promise."

"I... I quit band..." Alexander whispered. "I just... I can't deal with the teacher shift right now... especially given how close I feel to you."

Washington nodded, "That's all?" He said, not sounding upset, and he wasn't. "I understand why, I'll respect your choice, but I think you should give him a try, but if you want to stay out of band, I won't hate you."

Alexander was surprised. He expected Washington to disown him or something, not that Washington could disown him seeing as Washington never owned him in the first place. "You... you aren't disappointed?" Alexander asked softly.

"No." Washington answered simply, "You have the right to make your own choices, I just want you to be happy son." He smiled, and ate the last ice cream sandwich.

Alexander flinched again at that word. He felt the familiar stab of alienation and he looked at his feet. "I may not ever see you again." Alexander whispered. "If I get moved... I don't know where I'll get moved to. I could be across the nation for all I know."

"Your not moving.. I don't want to visit and hear my star student has gone all the way across the country." He joked. "But in all seriousness, your not going to move." Washington ordered.

Hamilton shook his head. "I have to Washington. I'm sixteen. I'm still a legal ward of the state. They can send me anywhere and all I can do is fill out a form and comply."

"Fuck the state.." He mumbled and rubbled his temples, "Are you able to convince them other wise?" He asked.
