- iiiiiiivheight & weightGwen stands at 5'7" (170 centimeters) and weighs 138 pounds (62 kilograms).hairGwen has dark brown hair that comes down to her mid-back when let down, but is most often put up in a ponytail. It has a straight texture and does not curl naturally.eyesGwen has blue eyes and wears glasses or contacts as she cannot see far away without them.overallGwen has a sturdy figure that is distinctly feminine. She has toned muscles due to the nature of her work and lifting heavy objects regularly. She has multiple small scars across her hands from working with metal and a large scar running vertically along her left thigh that she recieved from a injury during a mission. At times, pain can flare up in her leg from the injury and cause her to limp. To combat this, she has made a brace for herself to wear on missions so she can remain mobile. She also has pock marks on her arms from having chickenpox as a child. Gwen has a habit of biting her lip when lost in thought or when working, resulting in her lips often being cracked or bloodied.
Gwen has a bit deeper voice than most women her age. She has a Welsh accent which is somewhat of a mix from the different areas of Wales as a result of the many different people that raised her during her formative years. It's a thick accent, but she is still understandable to most people. Gwen tends to curse in Welsh when she is upset or frustrated, a result of her trying to get away with cursing as a child hoping her caretakers didn't know much Welsh, it hardly ever worked but it has stuck with her as a way to avoid getting in trouble for cursing as if she is still a child under the watch of the orphanage.styleGwen prefers simple clothing as it is easy to move and work in. She most often wears tank tops and cargo pants with sturdy boots. She will dress up if the ocassion calls for it, and wears somewhat modest dresses. She generally wears loose clothing to sleep in such as a large shirt and sweatpants. Gwen likes to wear neutral colors such as black, beige, white, and grey but for fancier ocassions, she likes to wear clothes that are purple, red, or green. You will almost always find her with a pair of large, wire-framed glasses to aid her eyesight, but she will also ocassionally wear contacts if her glasses look out of place for her outfit.face claimGwen's faceclaim is Mama / Målingen from the video game Death Stranding.voice claimGwen's voice claim is Kezia Burrows from multiple video games including Remember Me, Everybody's Gone to Rapture, GreedFall and Elden Ring.2 amfoals - iiiiiiivLorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Gwen tries not to let her fears show, almost always trying to put on a facade of bravery no matter the situation. Yet, she has several fears. Many of them are minor, such as her fear of speaking in front of crowds and flying, and can be pushed aside easily if she puts her mind to it. However, her biggest fear is being alone. It was always something that greatly bothered her, as she didn't have many friends as a child, much less her family who had died in the Omnic Crisis, but her fear grew even worse after Overwatch disbanded. Overwatch had given her a sense of belonging, a place that felt like home for the first time in her life, but it was taken away from her. The recall naturally delights her, knowing she'll get to see those who had become her family in her time in Overwatch, but it also frightens her. To know that she will be alone once again if things don't work out, that fear lurks deep in her heart.fears
personalityAt first, Gwen can seem very meek and a bit of a pushover, willing to let others boss her around. She's soft-spoken and doesn't say much until someone gets to know her or she wants to get to know someone. Then, the real Gwen flourishes. She will talk for hours as long as someone is willing to listen, and loves when people talk to her just as much as she talks to them. In public situations with strangers or formal events, she reverts back to the Gwen people see before they know her and isn't fond of anything too busy with too many strangers.
Since she was a child, Gwen has been a curious and inquistive sort of person. She is always delving deeper no matter what she is doing, whether it is tinkering a little farther than she needs to with the machines she repairs and creates or wanting to get to know the people around her better. Gwen has a bit of trouble understanding when others are growing annoyed with her questions or prodding, and is often surprised when they snap at her to leave them alone. She has tried to get better about this as she gets older, but often her curiosity does get the better of her. However, she truly doesn't mean any harm with her questions and quickly learns which questions are alright to ask to certain people while knowing which ones to avoid. She simply wants to understand the people around her better. Gwen also doesn't mind when people ask questions about her as long as they are being inquistive and not hostile and is more than happy to answer anything.
Gwen can also be quite the perfectionist especially in her work and in making the world a better place. She can get caught up in this and has a hard time understanding why one shouldn't strive for perfection or why others shouldn't strive to make the world a better place. In addition to her perfectionism, Gwen always has to be doing something to keep her mind occupied. Tinkering is her favorite thing to do, and is almost a second nature to her, but on missions she finds it a bit harder to keep herself occupied especially when there is a lot of down time such as waiting for a target or surveying areas. She would much rather tinker away on her projects all night long than get a good night's sleep, leading to her being exhausted at times and not taking care of herself properly.
While not necessarily argumentative, Gwen has no trouble defending her beliefs and views. Growing up viewing Overwatch on the television, being shining beacons of hope for those all across the world, Gwen is very much an idealist and yet not necessarily foolish. She understands that not everyone shares her views of the world and of omnics, but that doesn't mean she's willing to let things remain as they are. When people voice their opinons about omnics, Gwen doesn't hesitate to speak her mind about the matter. She refuses to bend her ideas to anyone, no matter how high-ranking or important that person is, which can lead her to getting in trouble or clashing with others. Gwen is very much a caring person and always wants to help those in need, even if it means putting herself in danger. Though it may seem as if she is an extrovert, and though she does enjoy being around people, Gwen does enjoy a bit of time to herself as it gives her time to think and decompress. Gwen is a very determined person, who wants to change the world around her, no matter how long it takes. She refuses to give up, even when things go wrong or the odds are against her. She is patient about her goal, knowing it will take time for the world to change into the one she wishes it will someday be, but until then she will defend those who need it.
- iiiiiiivchildhood
If you asked Gwen if she remembered anything from before her parent's died, she would simply tell you that she remembers nothing at all. Yet, that would be a lie. The truth is, Gwen does remember a few things from her very early years. The sound of sirens blaring through the air, her mothers sobs as she held her daughter close to her, and the feeling of tears on her face. But these were all so hazy, as if it was nothing more than a nightmare. As much as Gwen might have wished these memories were all the result of a nightmare, thinking does not make it so. Gwen was only three years old when her parents died in an omnic attack, and a year later the omnic crisis was officially declare to be over. Not soon enough for her parents, but perhaps soon enough for the young Gwen to live a normal life.
In the year after her parents died, but before the omnic crisis was declared to be over, Gwen was raised by many different people who had known her parents either as friends or simply as acquaintances. None of these people had the resources for an extra child, but they simply couldn't bring themselves to abandon a child in need. The attacks would end soon, they reasoned with themselves, and then things would return to normal. Their wishes were seemingly granted, with the omnic crisis being declared over the next year and a now four year old Gwen was brought to live under the care of the Welsh government.
White Willow Orphanage, Gwen could never forget the name of the place that was her home for so many years. She still remembers the willow in the yard, casting shadows across the walls of the bedrooms on stormy nights making it look as if it was some sort of terrible creature and yet in the daytime the willow resembled a page in a storybook. When she first arrived at the orphanage, she was too young to figure out if living there was joyous or miserable but she was treated well and remained the happy child that she had always been. In reality, White Willow Orphanage was funded by the Welsh military and although they did treat the children well, their underlying goal was to encourage the children to become soldiers to not only defend their homeland, but the entire world should another omnic crisis occur.
Before she was sent to school, Gwen's early life was filled with playing with toys of all sorts from the toybox the children shared and sometimes trying to sneak off to the living room to watch the television, only to get lectured by her caretakers for watching television outside of the assigned times. Then, as all children must, Gwen one day packed her book bag and headed to her first day at school. Being a curious child, Gwen didn't mind school. She found the things that they learned interesting, even while other children were bored to tears. And in the afternoon, she would return home to the orphanage she knew so well. Here, she spent most of her time reading books while the other children played. It wasn't that she didn't like the other children, but Gwen truly didn't know how to make friends with them. Instead, she kept herself occupied by reading anything she could get her hands on.
As time went on, Gwen became increasingly aware of the distrust and hatred towards omnics. It started one day at school, when one of her teachers mentioned that good children should learn to become soldiers so they may one day defend against the soulless omnics who would dare to overthrow humankind once again. Gwen didn't quite understand this line of thinking, for even if she had never spoken to an omnic before she had seen glimpses of the few that lived within their country or even in England when they went for field trips. These omnics acted nearly human, and their few differences were surely not something to be so angry about. But with this idea becoming aware to her, Gwen noticed she heard it over and over again. From nearly all of her teachers within school, from her caretakers at the orphanage, even the children as they played in the yard of the orphanage next to the willow she had come to love and fear. Omnics were nothing but pieces of tin without souls, evil at the core, and would always turn against humanity. Yet, Gwen still couldn't understand why others thought like this. Surely the majority of omnics were good, just as most humans were good. She tried to voice her opinions to the other children, only for them to look at her like she had grown a second head. When she tried to voice the same opinions to her caretakers, they simply hushed her and told her not to speak such nonsense. As a result, Gwen became withdrawn from her peers and caretakers, not wanting to share her ideas if they were simply going to think she was crazy for it.
By the time Gwen turned nine, she was beginning to think perhaps she was crazy for believing omnics couldn't be as bad as everyone said. Maybe they knew something she didn't, and that is why they were so adamant about their beliefs. Perhaps she would have given up on her different ideas if it hadn't been for her caretakers agreeing she was now old enough to watch the evening news with them and the older children. It was here that she saw her first glimpse of Overwatch. These people had helped to stop the omnic crisis, and yet they didn't seem to be filled with fear or hatred. They were calling for a peaceful and a better world. If such powerful figures were calling for peace, then surely it meant that others would soon think the same way. They became her shining beacon of hope, her reason for continuing to believe that omnics deserved the same treatment as humans. It gave her a new sense of purpose, and almost everyone who knew her saw a difference. Gwen was suddenly studying for long hours, focusing harder on the exercise regimes they were given, and most of all expanding her view of the world she lived in. Surely, for her to become like those heroes, she would need many different skills.
teenage years
As she grew older and older, Gwen found herself taking in every news broadcast and article she could find about Overwatch. She spent her own pocket money to buy newspapers when Overwatch was featured, keeping them in a box under her bed. She wasn't sure if she wanted to be heroes like them, but she knew she wanted the same thing as them. A better and peaceful word, one where everyone could thrive. This is what she wanted, not just for humans but also for omnics. Her peers teased her for perhaps having a crush on one of the heroes in Overwatch, although Gwen knew they couldn't be farther from the truth.
The children she had known for years were growing older, and so was she. They were told to start deciding what they wanted to do with their adult lives and she heard so many say that they wanted to be soldiers. Yet, Gwen knew she couldn't follow that path. As the days approached towards her sixteenth birthday, the age they wanted her to choose whether or not to be a soldier, Gwen knew she didn't wish to stay in the orphanage any longer. It had always been her home, for as long as she could remember, but she knew she had to expand her views if she was to help make the world a better place. She wanted to be a hero in her own way, and the night before her birthday she left a note on her pillow detailing that she was going to run away and follow her dreams and not to look for her.
Gwen left that night and never looked back. She had little money to her name, and used what was left to ride a bus from Wales to England. She didn't know where to go, but England was somewhat familiar to her and close by. From there, she would surely find a way to travel further. Gwen got off the bus that night with nothing more than a backpack and enough money for perhaps a snack. It was a cold and rainy night, her thin jacket being soaked by the rain in a matter of minutes. Yet, she knew she couldn't just stand there and wait for something to happen. She had to find someplace to stay for the night even if it was an alleyway or stoop with an overhang to stay dry.
It was during her search for shelter that she came across a horrific sight. An omnic beaten with a pipe by some disgruntled citizens, left for dead. Gwen had no training, she had only read a few mechanical manuals during her time at the orphanage, but she knew she couldn't leave the omnic. She knelt by the omnic, telling him that it would be alright and she was going to try and fix him. Yet, in the end there was nothing she could do. His injuries and damage were too extensive, especially for a young girl who had no proper training in engineering and she watched as he shut down before her. She stayed by him for a time, until a group of omnics approached her.
They were the deceased omnics friends, and had come to collect his body for the funeral they would hold. Although she knew she had no right, Gwen asked if she could join them. She was shocked when they agreed, although after much hesitation. That morning, Gwen witnessed her very first omnic funeral. It wasn't all too different from human funerals, except for the fact that they took a piece of his outer shell and grafted it onto the closest friend of the fallen omnic. The group of omnics allowed her to stay for a few days in their small warehouse that they used as a base, and a few days turned into a few months. Gwen became friends with these omnics, learning each one of their names and learning all about their personalities. They were all so different, nothing like how the people back home made omnics sound. It was as if she was talking to humans, and in truth she thought of them no differently than she did her own kind.
They allowed her to begin to study their outer shells to at least grasp some knowledge of their mechanics. Soon that turned into allowing Gwen to repair old, dented parts for fresh, new ones. She grew more confident with her knowledge of the omnic system and body, knew what parts to replace and how to bypass wires that were essentially to remain intact. These omnics were her teachers and her friends. It was all rudimentary, none of it being the sort of thing one would learn in a proper environment, but Gwen was grateful none the less. When the time came for her to leave, she thanked them all and promised them that one day she would make sure that the world would be a place where they could walk freely and not live in fear.
entering adulthood
That teenager grew into an adult, and traveled much more of the world than she had ever believed she could have when she was only a child. She went to so many different countries, most being places where omnics didn't have equal rights to humans or no rights at all. Yet, she found a few places that were accepting of omnics, that lived alongside them. It gave her hope that someday everywhere could be the same way. In the countless countries and cities she visited, Gwen would spend time getting the omnic communities to trust her before repairing their damaged exteriors and malfunctioning circuits the best she could. It took time and patience, but Gwen refused to leave until she helped. The omnics offered her what little money and food they could find in exchange for her work, and Gwen would always only take what she needed to survive and nothing more.
The joy in her heart hearing the delighted voices of the omnics when she fixed them up, from not only themselves but their friends and family, that was truly all the payment she ever needed. It was while she was in South America that Gwen came across an omnic that had damage to their exterior and their circuits. She was quick to offer her help and fixed the omnic up, only to find out the omnic had escape from Overwatch custody after being arrested for associating with a terrorist group. The twenty year old had no idea what to do, and before she could think of a way to stay out of the trouble that would naturally befall her, both her and the omnic were arrested by Overwatch.
In questioning, Gwen insisted she wasn't affiliated with anyone. Though, she couldn't very well prove those claims. She continued, stating how for the past four years she had been traveling the world and helping omnic communities by fixing them up. Gwen was simply a self taught engineer who wanted to help people and omnics, but she knew no one could back up her claim. She wouldn't put the omnics she had helped in danger by exposing their hideouts, so they couldn't vouch for her. Days went by and Gwen stuck to her story. It was only thanks to Jack Morrison and Torbjörn Lindholm that anyone believed her. Morrison had found her file from the orphanage all those years ago, and found she had in fact run away from the orphanage four years ago as she claimed. Meanwhile Lindholm, although he wouldn't admit it for years, was impressed she had managed to repair machines with no proper training. She was finally given an offer, join Overwatch and work in the engineering department, a department with very few people, and she would be given clemency. Gwen didn't hesitate to accept the offer.
Under Torbjörn's guidance, Gwen learned much about machines and how to fix them but also learned a new skill, how to create machines. Gwen never considered herself fit for up close combat, leading to her being used by Overwatch mostly as a reconnaissance agent. The machines she built aided her in this effort, and she could easily watch her allies as they proceeded to handle things. At times, she even joined the fight alongside her allies.

GENJI SHIMADA. Gwen first met Genji when she first joined Overwatch, although she hardly saw or spoke to him due to his reclusive nature. Though she didn't know it at the time, Genji believed that Gwen was there to study him and the connection between his mechnical body and his human one. This led to him being hostile towards her, although Gwen continued to try and talk to him as she truly wished to befriend those around her. Gwen never saw Genji as some sort of object to observe and study, but instead saw him as a being with a soul just as she viewed both humans and omnics. A man with a still beating human heart and yet supported by the body of a machine was no less to her than any other being. But getting him to lower his guard and realize this is another story.

Gwen sends out one of her robotic creations, a flying drone that resembles a hawk that she has lovingly named Gawain which can mark enemies, traps, and ultimate percentages within a certain radius. Gawain lasts for twelve seconds unless destroyed sooner. Gwen must remain still while controlling Gawain, making her vulnerable to attacks. In shorts and comics, Gawain is also shown to act as a reconnaissance drone, with his two eyes being cameras allowing Gwen to view his line of sight on a tablet she carries.
