It was a stormy night, and most other owls were taking shelter in their hollows of the great tree. Most, for some didn't care about the rain and still went about the place, tending to various tasks. However one group of owls, the weather interpretation chaw, were out in the thick of the storm. Their Ryb, Ezlryb, had set them no specific lesson this night. It was just fly to the ins and outs of the winds and just have some fun. They would all bare battle claws. Not to use, but to simply fly with. However, if Otulissa was being herself, who knows what might happen.
Large eyes locked onto the flocking owls beside her, catching each wind with her wings at the precise time. Otulissa was examining them, ensuring each was doing was Ezlryb had taught them thus far. The owls needed to be fit for any sort of predicament, and dangerous storms was certainly one of them. When she was confident, she turned her gaze to the upcoming center of the storm, the eye that watched them so intensively and threatened them so. She knew what to do, she only prayed the others did too. They had no task, but Otulissa could feel herself being drawn to the center. She wanted to feel the storm.
Ezlryb remained quiet for this lesson. He followed along, monitoring them. This actually made Soren a little nervous. Amongst the churring of the others, he piped up. "I think this is a hurricane!!" he yelled. Suddenly, the situation became deadly serious. "Otulissa, you were supposed to tell them if this storm developed a hurricane. Sloppy!" called Ezlryb. "now, what must we do?" he asked.
"You had given us no objective, sir, I wasn't positive it was necessary." Otilussa retorted, turning to face the group. "Not to mention it's pretty obvious." she silently added, shaking her head. She waited for the others to answer his question, already knowing the answer herself, as she usually did. However, after flying this long in the chaw, she hoped they all knew the answer by now.
"it is always necessary to keep your team updated on the weather, even if they can see it. And you've flown a hurricane before, and we almost lost Martin. I ask again. What do we do?" Soren thought. "last time we landed to wait out the majority of the storm." "no place to land but ocean. You'll have to think of something else." ruby was next to try and answer. "we can't fly back to the tree. To much head wind. Perhaps we fly away from the eye at a decent angle and use it to slingshot is around, back to the tree?"
Ruby seemed to have it pretty dead on, or so Otulissa believed. It seemed like such a dangerous thing to attempt, however, at the same time it seemed like fun. "Judging by wind speed" Otulissa begain, "The 'slingshot' idea would seem most necessary. We would not need to work as hard yet it is not strong enough to cause us any harm." she piped.
"let's see how that works, then." Ezlryb said. Soren, who took point of their rough formation, began to lead them. "keep an eye out for tornadoes the hurricane might cause." he warned.
Otulissa completely focused on the storm, falling into the correct formation with the others. She readied herself, her eyes open and alert. She surveyed the area, searching for any immediate danger. When her search was clear she nodded her head, her wings beating ever so silently against the intense wind and rain.
"two points port. We're getting too close to the eye." Soren called as he corrected their course. "let's say we make this a little more difficult." Ezlryb called. He then tucked his wings in, and began to plummet towards the swirling ocean below.
