history
Early Childhood
Goliath Lane, the only heir to Lane Enterprise. A multibillion dollar company. He didn't grow up like normal kids, forced to attend events dedicated to the wealthy for as far back as he could remember. He was accustomed to putting on a face and being the perfect son, to the point he could not even tell who he was and instead whatever the mold he was trying to fit in. It was the only time they ever paid him any attention, truly believing if he did everything right maybe, he would get a couple of minutes of their time. But they never did.
He went to his grandparent's care once he started school at age 5, but the damage had been done, wholly neglected. He was starved for human contact, running from the touch, and attention to the point that they were uncertain if Goliath would ever be a normal human being or if he would turn out to be a sociopath. His grandparents always blamed themselves for not rescuing him sooner, assuming the caregivers his parents hired were doing their jobs while they were countries away.
Goli did manage to get close to another student, a bubbly blonde ball of energy. She tried to play with Goliath everyday at recess for six months before he gave in. Embry Davis, she was as equally screwed up as he was, and maybe that’s why they got along. All through Elementary school she was by his side, and though he has never explicitly said it to her, she was his best friend.
High School
Growing up, Goliath had been the scrawny gangly kid. Self-conscious of his weight, wearing shirts too large to try to hide how skinny he was. He had reached six feet by the fifth grade towering over all the other kids at his school. It was all anyone had ever noticed. It was all anyone ever talked to him about. Comments like you must be so good at basketball, and you must have crazy tall parents. Plus being named Goliath certainly did not help. The nickname giant stuck and followed him around all through school. He became the butt of the joke. Even the teachers used it without ever asking him if he was okay with the name. By the time high school started, he was six foot four, and he was not sure if he would ever stop growing.
The summer before senior year, he decided to reinvent himself, knowing that people would always stare at him. That he could not blend into the background like everyone else, even if he wanted nothing more. Goli began to embrace that height was never going to change, but he could change his weight. He started drinking protein shakes to put on muscle and with Embry coming with him every time, worked out twice a day to build up his body. By graduation, he began to get attention from all the girls in his school. But because he still did not feel confident in himself, he used one-night stands with the most popular girls he could find as a way to make himself feel good. As confirmation. Even now, when he looks in the mirror, he sees the awkward teenager sitting in band class with braces. The one who could not talk to anyone, and he was no better at that now than he had been back then.
College
To no ones surprise Embry and Goliath chose to go to the same college together. Despite his appearance and looking like he does not care about his schooling, Goli spends significant time studying to maintain a 4.0 GPA in college just like he did in high school, graduating valedictorian. He is a double major in Mechanical Engineering, which was his choice, and international business since one day he is expected to take over his family's empire despite whether he wanted to or not.
Early in the first year their group of two became three, as Embry introduced him to a guy named Leon. He was his least favorite kind of person, but they warmed up to one another just like Embry had said they would. Because Leo was just as damaged as them. On campus they saw a Flyer for a band posted on the bulletin board of food hall.
Despite his apprehension Em and Leon talked him into it, so they joined. And it became big. Quickly Goliath was one of the most popular people on campus which was new to him, the ‘bad boy’ of the biggest band in their city. They sold out every bar or venue they booked. His outward energy reflected his status, either quiet because they didn’t deserve to hear him talk or a cocky hot-shot.
Goliath played lead guitar and recently has gained the confidence to start singing backups. Goliath had picked up playing the guitar back when he was 10. His guitar is his solace. Goli feels like it’s a way he can express himself to other people since words are not a strong skill of his. When he is on stage performing, Goliath lights up, truly happy. His red eyes sparkle, and he smiles, which is a rare thing to see from the ordinarily stoic giant. To date he parties way too much using alcohol as a crutch, when he’s drunk he’s much more out going, and the one-night stands with popular sorority girls hasn’t stopped, despite knowing and telling Embry and Leon he was gay. But he’s doing okay...right?
