“Well, I didn’t expect it to be healed and gone-“ Asher huffed as he looked at Jordan who had the cutest face and that smile that could disarm all of those trigger happy FEDRA goons. He sighed, and he ate some beans. “I was just hoping it was going to be easier today than yesterday, but I’m thinking the answer is no.” He flipped a hand to the side like he was tossing the thought away. “Pardon me for hoping to not be miserable. At least we have food. Which is nice.”

Jordan heard the huff and the words, and smiled bigger as he shook his head. "I know you didn't. I was just teasing you gorgeous. And no, it probably won't be really easier for a couple days to a week probably. That wound was deeper than it looked." Jordan said as he sighed softly. "I wish I could fix it for you, I don't like seeing you miserable gorgeous." Jordan added as he took another bite of beans.

Asher ate some of the beans and then finally decided that he hurt too much to keep eating and groaned again. “That would be great, thanks.” He may have been cranky this morning, but at least he noticed. He sighed and tried to reel that in. “I’m sorry. That was uncalled for. You… you did try to fix it, and I… I appreciate that.” He looked down at the covered wound before putting his shirt back on. “Don’t mind me.”

Jordan heard his words but let it roll off his skin, he'd heard worse before. He heard the sigh and shook his head with a small smile. "It's okay, I understand that this is.. not the situation you wanted to happen. But don't apologize for how you feel. It'll take more than cranky words in the morning to chase me off gorgeous." He said, putting the beans and utensils, once clean, back in his pack and he moved to stand up. "Would you like some helping getting up?"

All of him wanted to say no. That he didn’t need help. That he was perfectly capable of being capable without assistance. He wanted desperately to be independent. It was so hard. He knew he needed the help. He narrowed his eyes, brows and eyes hardening alike. “I can do this,” he snarled, though he wasn’t angry with Jordan. He was just impassioned. He tried. He got a little ways up and the pain was too much. He plopped back down hard and glared at some trees. He swore under his breath and tried again, but now his injury was already angry. He groaned. Did he need help? Yes. Was he about to ask for help? He wasn’t quite there yet.

Jordan saw his eyes narrow, his eyes and brow harden. The snarled words and he sighed heavily. So Jordan did not help, though every fiber of his being itched and twitched to. Especially when he got halfway up and plopped back down. Jordan kept quiet, hearing him swear under his breath and try once more. “Gorgeous. It’s okay to ask for help. It’s not a weakness.” Jordan said softly, watching him, aching to help him.

“Isn’t it?” Asher snapped. He was a cranky kind of guy. He had always been this way. It was so difficult for him to change his ways. He needed this. He needed to be his own person. He groaned and held his stomach as he crashed into the ground. He took in a deep breath and looked at Jordan. He wanted to help. Why not allow someone else to help him if he wanted to help? He sucked in a deep breath. He was not even sure how to ask for help. “I can’t get up,” he said through gritted teeth, “and I should be able to stand.” He shoved a hand onto a tree and tried to pull himself up that way, but he wasn’t in the right position for that.

Jordan rolled his eyes with a soft sigh at the snapped words. “No. It isn’t.” He replied, watching Asher. He knew what it was like to want to be independent but he also understood asking for help and that wasn’t a weakness. The groan at the next attempt to stand and the fall and hand to his stomach was more than enough for Jordan to handle. “You can’t get up because your stomach is wounded and healing.” Jordan said, his voice even as he stood up. He walked over to Asher where he was on the ground trying to pull himself up using the tree. Jordan grabbed his arm gently, knelt down and wrapped an arm around his back. “Come on, let’s get you up.”

Asher was furious with himself and the world. He thought about being furious with Jordan, and it was pretty easy to accomplish since he had this stupid injury because of him, though he decided against it since everything was so confusing. “I need it to heal faster then.” His eyes snapped to where Jordan grabbed him, slid to the arm around him, and without giving himself permission, he was forgetting how to breathe again. Get it together, Asher. We do not have time- But they did. They had nothing but time now. He wanted to say no. All of him wanted to refuse this. At the same time, his body hurt like hell, and he really wanted that assistance. “Fine,” he grumbled and started to get up again. If he had help, that was because he happened to be there and not because Asher required it.

Jordan let out a rough sigh as he shook his head. “If you’d let me help you then it would heal faster. The more you push your body, the longer it’s going to take to heal.” He said, seeing those eyes snap to his hand. Jordan didn’t care though, the grumbled word did not deter him. He merely shifted his weight and helped Asher stand up. He remained there as support and looked at him. “Can you stand while I get our packs?” Jordan asked, looking at Asher.

There was a very large part of him that wanted to make it clear that he was fine without Jordan’s help, and he did not have to worry about him for the few moments that it took to pack up and grab the bags. However, there was a small part of him that was actually genuinely upset at the thought of no longer having that arm around him. No longer being able to feel him. He stared at Jordan for a moment and realized that one hand was tightly gripping the arm around him. He let it go. “Yeah.” He steadied himself so that he was prepared. “I can stand.” And wait for you.

Jordan could feel the hand tightly gripping his arm and he heard that confirmation. Reluctantly, he moved his arm away from Asher and moved over to their packs. He didn’t take long to pack up everything and soon he had their packs on his back and he slipped his arm around Asher again. “Alright. Ready to go?” He asked, looking at him. Jordan was going to be there for Asher no matter what and he was never going to let him forget it either.

He watched him pack. Watched him do all the work that Asher could not currently do, and he was not sure how he felt about it. No, he knew how he felt, and he knew that it was never going to work. It did not stop him from watching. Wondering. Waiting. It took him a moment to pull himself out of those thoughts to answer. He nodded. “Ready.” Was he ready? “Where are you taking me today, lovebug? Is it another exciting city of not a whole lot happening?

Jordan smiled at the nickname, his heart beating just a little faster. “Well gorgeous, could be a city, could be a town or could be nothing at all.” Jordan said with a shrug. “The joys of traveling mean we don’t know where we’re going to end up.” He added as they started walking. “So. How are you doing so far? I don’t mean your wound, I mean you being away from that city and how that feels.” Jordan said, curiosity in his voice as they walked. He could only hope that Asher was okay. He had left behind his life and people after all and that wasn’t easy.

The joys of traveling. Wonderful. Asher was oh so happy to have no idea where they were going, what they were doing, or what they may find. He was sure this was apparent on his face. He never had to hide his expressions before. Who was going to say something about it? The people he could end if he were really up to it? They may not have been happy with him towards the end of his time there, but they knew better than to call him out. These thoughts led straight into the question. How was he feeling? Lost. He couldn’t say that though it was the truth. Absolutely lost. “I’m not sure. I feel a bit… directionless. Purposeless.” So he could answer a bit more truthfully than he expected. “It seems kind of silly to be traipsing around like this.” Silly was one word for it.

Jordan heard Asher's words and thought for a moment before sighed softly. "Well, the direction is west that we're going in, the purpose.. I cannot say exactly as mine is to find my mentor Joel. And as for traipsing around? How else do you expect to get anywhere in the country. Traveling may be harder nowadays but it's still the only way to go from one place to another." Jordan said, shrugging his shoulders as he looked at Asher. "So, we 'traipse' onwards. But at least you aren't alone."

Asher looked at Jordan with consideration. That at least was a goal. That at least was true. At least. What about later? What about beyond that? Why was he wandering around trying to find some guy he not only didn’t know but also once tried to kill? He did not answer. He was not sure how. He was not sure about a lot of things really. He stared forward as they walked. It was silent again. Finally the trees thinned and they could see the outline of a city close. “Hm.” So there was a new place. Perhaps it would be less infuriating as the last.

Jordan noticed how quiet it got as they walked, he saw Asher look at him before facing forward again. And then the outline of a city came up. Jordan didn't stop, he kept walking towards it, the trees thinned out completely and this city was much larger, almost as big as Pittsburgh. A busted and broken sign read: 'Welcome to Steubenville Ohio!' and Jordan sighed softly. "Well. We're out of Pennsylvania." He said softly. "Ready to check it out?"

Asher had never been out of Pennsylvania. Really, he had not been out of Pittsburgh, at least not during times that his brain was developed enough to remember. This was all new for him. The travel. The cities. He was not sure what to expect from Steubenville, Ohio. It was a large city that reminded him of Pittsburgh in size. That meant it reminded him of hunters. Jordan said that they weren’t everywhere. Asher didn’t believe him. “Are you?” he asked with a small grin. He could deflect his own fear onto someone else and then it would not be his. Surely. He moved forward passed the sign. His eyes darted around looking for signs of traps.

Jordan looked at Asher and saw that small grin. "I'm ready gorgeous, don't worry about me." He said, following him passed the sign and into the city. He didn't know what would be in this city but he knew they'd be fine. He noticed that Asher was looking around and somehow he figured what his companion was looking for traps. "Finding anything yet gorgeous?" He asked as he looked at Asher, walking beside him. He wasn't tense, and honestly he was probably walking like he was confident that there wasn't any traps or hunters in the area.

“No.” This did not stop his eyes from scanning every inch of the areas around them. “Doesn’t mean there isn’t anything here.” It was likely that if there were traps, they would not be this far back anyway. If this were his city, and he was trying to catch intruding forces, he would want them further in so that they could grab larger units of people. This far back meant that the majority could still get away. Only inexperienced hunters did this. However, there were plenty who were not up to his standards, so he would check anyway. He pointed to one of the buildings. “Not a trap, but someone has been here. That door was broken open with tools. Recently.” He pointed to the splinters on the ground. “Wind and weather hasn’t taken away the evidence. Footprints are still there in the dirt. Recent. I don’t know the weather here, so I couldn’t tell you how recent though.” He kept walking forward.

Jordan heard Asher and then shook his head. "You know, not every city has hunters in it." Jordan said again, as he walked beside Asher. He was scouting the area but he wasn't eyeing every section of the city either. As they walked, he noticed Asher pointed to a building and saw what he was pointing to. "Survivors could've made that, not hunters." Jordan said, not sure what he had to do in order to get Asher to relax even just a little bit. Little did he know that they were being watched from the window of the next building over.

That was an accurate statement. “So could FEDRA officers.” Anyone could have done that. Anyone could be dangerous. Knowing that someone was near was always to their advantage. “Survivors. Hunters.” He raised a brow. “Smugglers.” He was looking more intently at the areas now. He wanted to know if these were the signs of someone who was still there or already through the city. Were they a threat? “When you fall into the next trap, are you going to flirt your way out of that one too?” It was meant to be a bit derisive, though a small part of him actually wanted to see that happen now that he said it out loud. He was curious, or at least, that was that he told himself.

Jordan looked at Asher and pushed out a sigh as he rolled his eyes, and he chuckled low at the comment. "Okay. True." He said as he walked past that building and looked at Asher. "Depends on the trap." He said with a smirk on his face, not letting it get to him. Jordan looked at the next building and walked over to it. "See? I'll show you that these buildings aren't full of traps gorgeous." Jordan said, opening the door and he took about a step in when his foot got caught in a snare and he found himself hitting the floor hard and pulled up by his ankle so he was hanging just inside the building. "Um. Gorgeous? I might be a little.. stuck."

Asher would have loved to use this as a teaching moment to discuss the perils of underestimating the obvious enemies. Did he? No, because he was jumping to the side to get out of the way of any other potential dangers as he quickly looked into the rest of the room. “Lovebug, this is not a joking matter,” he growled. There was no reason to pretend that he was not there since Jordan had already talked to him. That would make any potential threats, and there clearly was at least one, aware of the presence of a second person. He stepped inside, carefully examining everything before he took each step. He had his pistol drawn as he searched for signs of where the person who set this up might be.
