"An accident, or someone had malicious intent?" Callum asked. He was never a fan of fighting mages, since they could do things Callum thought was unfair in a fight. He preferred to face anyone with tangible things like swords and shields.

"I do not know," Em said quietly. "I'm worried that the best chance we have is to go out at night and just wait, but that's extremely dangerous."

Callum nodded his head. "I could play bait again and lure it out?" He suggested. "That way we can figure out what it is... Or perhaps get a mage and make an illusory person for the monster to attack?"

Emmalia looked at him and asked an eyebrow. "In your condition? You're not luring anything, Hell I don't even like you fighting." It made sense, though, because he could die, but she could. Not that she would relent. "I feel like if there was a good mage around we could track it or something. But then again, we don't know if this thing isn't summoned by mages or something."

"That's a good point. I say we get Aman to send a mage so we know it's not the one that could possibly be conjuring the beast. I was thinking he could make an illusion and fool the monster into attacking it at night."

"That's a good idea. We can send a messenger, they'd be at the castle before dark, and the mage can come tomorrow. Tonight we can stay here at the inn, just in case it attacks again."

Callum nodded and stretched a bit. "Sounds wonderful. Is there anything me we can do today before the sun sets? We can't get anything done tonight." He looked up and saw the sun beginning to dip down from midday.

Emmalia shrugged. "I don't think so. All the bodies are taken care of, and there's no tracks to be found. Really we can't do much of anything, unfortunately."

Callum nodded slowly. "To the inn, then?" He asked, trying to think of anything more they could do - but he came up blank. "I suppose we could go to sleep early tonight."

"Yes, or we could try to stay awake to hear if anything happens. Maybe keep a window open to try to see it, whatever it is."

"Sounds good to me." Callum said as they began to walk for the inn. "What do you suppose we'll do when we catch it or see it, though?"

"We figure that out when we know what it is." As they walked in, Emmalia caught the maid gliding her a bit of an aggravated look, and Emmalia just raised an eyebrow and tugged on her necklace, showing her rank. The maid paled a bit and scurried off to the kitchen. Em looked up at Callum. "Wanna tell me why that maid glared at me?"

Callum looked over at her. "What do you mean?" He asked, seeing the maid go to the kitchen then raising his eyebrows. "Oh, she's the woman I talked to about the murders. She was very friendly and cooperative."

Emmalia chuckled and rapped her knuckles against his chest plate, indicating the armor that marked him as a knight - and everyone knew Knights had money. "Yeah, I wonder why."

Callum chuckled at her reaction. "What, are you suggesting she-" His mind finally got the hint the maid had been giving him. "...Oh. Well that's upsetting. I thought I was making a good friend."

"Yeah, seems she thinks I took away her night's pay," Em chuckled as they walked up to their room. "Ah, well. There's my amusement for the night."

Callum smiled as they went up to the room, and Emmalia helped him take off his armor for the night. "Well, if you took her pay, should you not perform the same?" He joked, looking up at her.

With a wicked smirk, she said, "Ah, but you see, I'm a higher quality - more expensive, and I don't have to actually do anything. But you can't say I'm not worth it."

Callum returned her smirk. "Oh posh, with all the gold and prestige I have, I could get anyone in all of Trulane for free!" He spoke, purposefully sounding like an arrogant knight, much like when he was younger.

Emmalia turned and grabbed him by his shirt front, pulling him close enough that their lips almost touched. She didn't often show her rough side when they were alone, but they were playing their game. "But would you really want anyone else in all of Trulane?"

"Emmalia darling, I wouldn't want anyone else in all the world." He made his words long and drawn out. "If I had any choice, my Lily Pad, I'd pick you every time." His arms wrapped around her waist and his hands held her sides.

Em grinned wryly. "Yes, that's what I thought, dearest." She kissed his cheek and pressed her head against his chest, knowing he wanted something more intimate but wanting to make him work for it

Callum chuckled and knew she was playing games with him. "I do believe I gave you a compliment, and I deserve ample payment." He said, bringing her head up and pressing his lips to hers.

This game was fun to her, so she prolonged it by kissing him back for a few moments, then pulling away to say, "There is your payment, we're all settled up now."

"Excuse me my love," Callum spoke. "But I do believe I've earned more than measly kiss for such a loving and caring compliment." Cal smiled a bit and brought her back into the kiss.
