"Yes, Cal?" Her voice was soft and patient. Being resurrected mysteriously was trying for anyone, after all, and she didn't want him to feel pushed to tell her anything.

"I... Think I'm supposed to meet with someone. Death... it asked me to speak with someone to explain things to me. While I was dead, someone asked me to fulfill a role... Something about claiming lost and angry souls." Callum seemed just as confused as anyone would be, unsure if anything he was saying made sense.

For a few solid seconds, Emmalia just stared at him in confusion. Then, trying to both make sense of this and keep him calm, she cautiously said, "I mean, if you were to fulfill a role, it would explain why you were resurrected.... But surely you couldn't be expected to find someone right after you come back. Right now, you need to rest."

"But I need to figure this out Emmalia. If I was brought back to do something, then we need to get it done." He attempted to get up out of bed, all of his muscles sore and his joints locked up, making it nearly impossible to do so. However, he didn't stop trying to get up.

Emmalia frowned and reached out, wrapping her arms around his chest and pulling him to the bed next to her. "Callum. You can't." If he went out and got hurt, she wouldn't forgive herself.

Callum groaned and relaxed a bit, still feeling the urge to get up. He had no clue where to even think to look for... Whoever he was looking for. But he felt that it'd be better than waiting for someone to show up in his quarters. "Fine, fine. First thing tomorrow though."

"First thing tomorrow, I promise," Emmalia said. She tenderly kissed his forehead and softly said, "Now, please, sleep." She even felt tired. Having had human blood recently, she hadn't needed much sleep, and hadn't been hungry yet. But now that he was with her again, she could feel the weariness in her very bones.

Callum nodded his head slowly as he returned the kiss. He had felt rather sluggish recently, and maybe some sleep could do him some good. He laid down fully and held her close to his chest. He fell asleep in seconds, a deep trance with little memory of his dreams. He woke up well into midday, groggy as he sat up and rubbed his eyes.

Emmalia had gotten up at dawn, dressed, and returned to Callum's side. She cocked her head to the side as he sat up. "Hey love. Let's get you some breakfast, then we can look for death's messenger." She kept her tone deliberately cheery abd light. For all she knew, Callum had imagined death's message. But it didn't seem likely.

Callum nodded. "I'm starving, thank you." He said as he slowly got up. He pulled Emmalia into a tight hug, and held onto her for a few moments before pulling away and kissing her head. "Do you know what we'll be having, or is that a mystery?"

Emmalia shrugged. "Mystery to me, but I'm tasting it before you get so much as a bite." Her tone made it very clear that he ought not bother trying to argue. After what had happened, she didn't need him getting poisoned all over again.

Callum didn't argue, as he was in agreement. He didn't want to feel himself slowly die again, like his body was turning inside out. He simply kissed her cheek and led the way back to the dining courtyard and sat down where he normally did.

Emmalia tasted his food and drinks before him, then told him it was safe and leaned back. Except, unlike normallhy where she would be fine, a moment later she ran over to some bushes to throw up. Damn. This isn't how I wanted to tell him.... She shuddered and wiped her mouth, then said without looking back, "Don't worry, your food is safe. For you."

Callum frowned and stood up the moment she ran to the bushes. He stepped forward and asked, "Are you alright? What's wrong?" He stepped closer and catiously pulled her close to him

Emmalia kept her eyes on the stones beneath her feet as she quietly said, "When I tried to turn you... I drank some of your blood. I haven't had human blood in years. It's so rich, and going back to animal is going to be hard for me. My ability to eat small amounts of food, it's basically gone. Even the sun hurts more than it did before. I'll be fine in a few days, maybe some weeks...."

Callum frowned as he pulled her into a hug. "You're sure you'll be fine? If not, would we have to get humans to let you feed on?" He was concerned with Emmalia's diet, afraid that maybe someday she might get too hungry and take a bite out of him. He wasn't afraid of her, though. He knew she would never do something like that. "How can I help?"

She shook her head frantically. "Don't suggest things like that, first off.... I just need to restrain myself and only eat from animals. Best you can do is not let me get out of sight if I mention I'm hungry. I might just get overwhelmed by instinct and go after someone if they're already bleeding."

Callum nodded his head slowly. "So, definitely no taking on jobs until you can sustain yourself. I'll make sure no servants come into direct contact with you, just in case. Would it be best if we just, kept you in our quarters for now?"

Emmalia rolled her eyes. "Love, I can take jobs, and be near people, I just have to watch my diet. I'm safe to be around as long as I can get to the occasional rabbit. I'll have to eat more often than normal, that's all." She turned to face him and pushed him lightly toward the table. "Now, go, you need food."

"Oh be quiet, you." He smiled and kissed her gently. "I eat when I want, and nothing you can say can force me to." He teased, smiling down at her. Callum thought that - even though she had recently gotten disheveled - Emmalia looked beautiful in the sunlight, although it made him rather sad to think that she couldn't enjoy it the same way he did.

Emmalia rolled her eyes. "Just eat, love." She pushed him toward his breakfast, then sat down on the other side of him at the table.

Daniel smiled wryly to the guard at the gates. "Yes, I understand that he's not taking any visitors, but can you at least let me into the castle? It's not even him I need to see!"
The guard shook his head. "Madame Emmalia made it clear that he was not to be disturbed, especially by those we don't know. And you, sir, are in no condition to be seeing Lord Callum."
He was right - Daniel had blood dripping from a cut along his hairline, and had a split lip. He was a young man of about twenty, with dirgty blond hair, green eyes, and olive skin. He was of a laborer's build, average height, and wore a green longsleeve, black pants, and had a broadsword on his belt and a pack on his back. "Look, just walk me through the halls, you don't understand - "
The guard cut him off. "And I don't need to."

Daniel gave up and groaned. He looked at the guard and said, "I'm gonna get in there, I swear," and turned to walk away. Once he was around the bend in the path, where the guard couldn't see him, he started cutting back through the forest towards one of the outer walls.

Callum ate gradually, still looking over at Emmalia periodically. He continued to keep an eye on her for a while, until he got an odd feeling in his gut. He looked over into the distance, which was only a simple wall, but Callum could sense something worthy of his attention. "Is anyone expected to visit today?"

Emmalia cocked her head to the side. "No, I told the Guards to tell people to wait and leave a calling card, and that we would follow up...." She paused as she heard some rustling in the trees outside of the wall

Daniel had spent more time than he wanted to admit getting past the numerous walls. But that was what he got for attempting to infiltrate a warlord's castle. He got to the final wall and climbed a tree, then landed gracefully in the gardens. From there he merely walked along the flagstone paths into the courtyard, adjusting his scarf as he went. When he saw Callum. And Em, he pulled a coin out of his pocket and flipped it twice. When Emmalia rose, he held up one finger to her in a "one second" gesture, and flipped the coin again, then smiled to the pair. "I do not come to harm either of you or anyone here, I assure you. But, you," he looked to Callum. "I need to speak with. Not necessarily privately of course, ma'am," he said the last part to Emmalia.

Em had indeed stood and drawn her sword, ready to attack Daniel with any means necessary. However, since he had just been flipping a coin, she paused, and simply waited. Then he made it clear that he was there to speak to Callum, so she sheathed her shortsword.

Callum frowned as he looked over at the new man, wondering how he had managed to find his way in. "So, you wish to speak with me?" He asked, using the moment to express his full power, resting his arms in a kingly way on the table as he looked over at Daniel. Callum wondered if Daniel found the same way through the defenses that he had when he was younger. "And how exactly did you find your way into my court? And, why can't this be held off until the waiting process goes through for a proper meeting?"

Daniel chuckled and flipped his coin again, this time catching it and putting it in his pocket. "See, I was told that you knew I would be coming, and I figured you'd be quite concerned if we didn't meet soon. After all, being resurrected isn't a cake walk, is it?" He seemed to take no notice of Callum's position or posture. "As for how I got in, I have many tricks up my sleeves. But, I am sorry if I interrupted something, such was not my intent," Daniel said with a nod to Em, who still seemed suspicious.
