"Heeeh. So it could do that too, huh..." Riles said as she read over Kishune's PM. She had simply pressed on the empty message-input to bring up the keyboard -- much like how a digital keyboard would open up when you touched something that could be written on on a touch-screen device, so she must have skipped over the whole 'Thought Message' thing.

"Well, anyways, just like you said, those first four are essentially Email systems. So... I don't really have to explain each, right?" Riles was, of course, referring to 'Inbox', 'Outbox', 'Party' and 'Friends'. After making sure Kishune agreed ((Which I'll assume he did)) the pink haired Imp continued. "The last thing on this tab is the one with the Signboard icon. As for its purpose..." After a slight pause, Riles pressed the icon. In response, an empty list appeared with '0/10' being displayed at the bottom right of the window. Also at the bottom were 'Add Sign', 'Delete Sign', 'Activate Sign' and 'Deactivate Sign', all of which were grayed out except 'Add Sign'.

With only one option to choose from, Riles pressed 'Add Sign', which prompted a system message asking what she wanted to put on her 'Sign'. For now, she simply inputted 'This is what it does', before accepting the message, causing her to return to the main 'Sign' menu with her newly-made Sign now added to the list, and the 0/10 from earlier becoming 1/10. The three other options were still grayed out until she pressed the message itself, highlighting the Sign and allowing 'Delete Sign' and 'Activate Sign' to appear pressable, with the other two being grayed out. At that point, their purposes seemed pretty self-explanatory, so she simply pressed 'Activate Sign'.

As soon as she did so, her message appeared directly over her character's Name, she could also see the message itself on the bottom left of her vision, affirming its state as 'Active'.

Riles pointed up above her head not a moment later. "The thing above my head is a feature not seen often in games... Although certain ones have their own ways of doing it. They're essentially 'Signs' -- which explains the Signboard Icon -- and their purpose is to sit above a character's head for a prolonged, or perhaps permanent period of time while activated." Explaining it like a teacher, Riles' tail swayed lightly over the covers, pleased with her ability to grant knowledge to the Kitsune. "That way, people who want to sell an item, or who are looking for a party member, or really anything else that would require someone to send out a bunch of the same message don't have to spam the chat over and over. Seeing as out 'chat' is all Vocal, it's likely just for the sake of convenience here."

Riles went back into the menu after saying so, deactivating the Sign she had put up and adding a new one: '- The Best Teacher -' before grinning to herself. "As for the options... They're all pretty self-explanatory, so you won't have a problem if you just experiment for yourself." After saying so, she selected her new sign and activated it, causing a system message to pop up. Its contents were simply notifying her that her currently activated Sign would deactivate if she chose to activate her new Sign. She simply accepted the message, and her new Sign promptly appeared over her name.

Giggling to herself at her new makeshift title, Riles looked back at her list of Signs, noticing that the first was simply deactivated, and remained on the list itself. The list seemed to be for storing commonly used Signs (like 'Looking for a Healer' or 'Exploring x Dungeon'), so she deleted her first-made sign without a second thought, and returning her number of signs to 1/10.

This'll probably be the second-last or at most third-last Menu explanation post before Riles finds out that the Options (and therefor the Logout Button and such) don't work. The hype is real.

Kishune looked at Riles as she asked if he if she didn’t have to explain those to him. He nodded to her. “Yeah I understand stuff like that.” He told her then she went to talk about the tab with the signboard. Kishune looked at his list and was surprised to see it. He must have over looked it as she came to the conclusion of the tab being related to Email.

Kishune watched her meddle with her menu it seemed before a message appeared above her head. ‘This is what it does?’ He questioned then looked back at her. He listened to her as she explained it; he nodded now and then to show he was listening. “Ok, I get it. I see the uses in that.” He told her. Watching her turn back to her menu, he then noticed the sign change and read what it said. He was a bit surprised but chuckled a bit. “That’s…that’s fitting.” He said as he chuckled a bit.

Bleh post~! DX

Anyways...The Menu that I announced isn't part of the RP just yet, so if I forgot something in it please tell me.

I'll announce when it will takes affect

"Fufufufu~" Riles laughed, her chest puffing outwards to represent her pride in her new title, and her 'pupil's' agreement on how fitting it was. "Now, let's move onto the second last Main Tab -- this one probably requires the least explanation, so I won't spend long on it."

After only a moment, Riles manipulated her menu and opened up the 'Map' Tab. In response, an olden-style colored, GPS-esque Map of their current City (Chorbata) opened up. There was a Slider with + on the right of it and a - on the left (which had the obvious function of zooming in and out), and by tapping and sliding the map itself, the center of the map would move, allowing navigation throughout the map itself. "Just by opening it up, you should recognize this as a Map of sorts. Like most games, it seems to be set to show your current area by default, with ours being 'Lilith's Belt''s map."

After saying so, Riles pressed on a Magnifying Glass with a minus sign within it, causing the Map to expand to 'Corbata City', then the Country's map after another press. Pressing it again took her to the World Map, graying out the 'Magnify -' button. Pressing the matching 'Magnify +' button brought her back in, all the way into Lilith's Belt floor-map before the 'Magnify +' button was grayed out. "The slider's plus and minus symbols will zoom in on the center of the map on the current map, and the magnifying glass ones will switch between areas. In our case, it'll go this building our current City our current Country The World Map." Riles looked up at her Kitsune companion after saying so, hoping that he was following along alright.

"Ah, also, just so you know, most areas in games have 'maps' -- pre-made areas planned out by the game designers. Most of the time, special stuff will be mapped out for you, even if you haven't explored entire areas... Some games require you to explore areas themselves to 'map out' areas, however. For this game, the current City seems to show certain things, though. Shops, for instance." Bringing her map back to City-level, Riles almost burst out laughing when she saw that hers' and Kishune's location was marked with two hearts, only to leak a small "Ehh." when it disappeared and was replaced with a crescent moon and 'Z's only a moment after looking at it.

"*Ahem* If you'll look to the City and a bit to the South of our location you'll see a clearing. That clearing is the Town Center we were at a little bit ago, and you should be able to see the Shop that I was at marked with a Box in a Circle. That shop would fall under the 'Miscellaneous Shop' domain, so its Icon is probably for similar shops. For maps, probably doesn't really cut it, though." Riles crossed her arms, looking slightly disappointed before grinning. "Luckily for us, if you'll look on the top-right of the Map itself, there'll be a Legend that can be opened up for all of the icons' true identities." Riles pressed the 'Legend' option (which looked like a small Paper Map), causing images for Armor Shops, Weapon Shops and Potion Shops, alongside locations marking things like Carpenters' Huts, Arenas and possible Guild Base sites to open up. Pressing the icon itself would grant a small description of what it represented. Pressing the icons on the map would simply show the name of the location, rather than the type (although sometimes the name would make its type obvious).

"Pro tip: Don't memorize all of the icons. Just check the legend to find the images you need when you need them, and you'll memorize them over time." Riles said matter-of-factly, before bringing a hand to her chin and thinking of an example. "In our case, because we don't have any potions just yet, we would want to search for Potion Shops. Looking at the Legend, they're chemistry-bottle like things, right? With that, we'll be able to walk over to the shop itself and naturally remember the meaning of the icon that way." Riles kept the fact that she could identify almost all of the icons on the Legend at first glance a secret before closing her menu and looking at Kishune.

"By the way, I mentioned Potions specifically because they're crucial in games -- no matter which game it is. They help refill your 'HP' and 'MP' depending on what type of potions they are and --" Riles quickly stopped, as if she just realized something. With a short "Ah" she continued, "'HP' and 'MP' are the values that those bars on the top left of your vision represent. The one on top is 'HP' or 'Hit Points', easier known as your 'Health Bar'. You lose it by being damaged, and heal it through Potions, Resting, or Healing Magic in most games. Seeing as yours is at about 90% from what I can see, Ms. Centauress' kick from a while back made you sustain damage."

Riles snickered at the memory of Kishune attempting to 'ride' his fellow tester in broad daylight before moving on. "From the fact it hasn't healed yet, this game might need you to actually sleep for the 'Rest' recovery option to activate, but... Anyways, if you happen to lose it all," Riles stared at Kishune with a serious expression as she mutters her next words, "You'll die."

After waiting a moment and scanning for any reaction the Kitsune might make, Riles returned to her usual grin and giggled to herself. "Well, this is a game, so even if you 'die', you'll just respawn -- 'respawn' meaning you'll just sort of 'wake up' at an area away from combat. Seeing as this is the first town, the closest respawn area is probably the Town Square." Riles shrugged, "Otherwise it could be a place like a Church in town... Those're the game norms, at least. Regardless of where you end up, almost every game has a penalty of some sort. The penalty itself varies game-to-game, so I can't tell you what it'll be for this game, though." Riles winked at Kishune, sticking her tongue out and adding "You're welcome to test it out later on your own, though!"

"Anyways, under HP is 'MP' which stands for 'Mana Points'; it's better known as your 'Magic Bar'. It acts as a fuel for Magic and Spells -- if that wasn't obvious -- but also works for Skills and other things like that. Unlike HP, if you lose all of your MP, there's usually no consequences. Well... In some games, your character might look a bit out of breath, but..." Riles thinks for a moment before giving a wry smile and shrugging. "Well, I'm not sure how it'll end up in this game, but I suppose we'll find out eventually, right?" Riles sighed shortly while thinking about the fact that she'd probably be the first to find out what complete MP exhaustion would feel like, given that she was a Mage.

"Buuuuuut we've strayed a bit from the whole Menu explanation, so let's get to the last button on the Main Menu, alright?"

@Kishune: I'm not sure whether you'll have Kishune's menu still work or not (because I'm unsure whether the 'special room' he was put in is for the sake of keeping him alive despite in-game death, possibly because of his family connections), so I cut the post off before the reveal.
I also stopped because it's huge already, so... It was a good time, I guess.

You can have Kishune go into Options by himself in your next post, or just have him react to what Riles has said thus far, and leave the reveal to me in my next post -- I'm totally fine with either.

After a bit of chuckling, Kishune started to cough a bit before he coughed. He covered where his mouth would be on the mask as he coughed. When he stopped he was surprised he was actually coughing…but even more so that he was laughing. He then looked up at Riles as she wanted to move on to the second to last main button. He then nodded to her only to act like nothing happened just now. He then closed the Communications tab by tapping were all the sections branched from it and then tapped the button below it that looked like the arrow that points to specific locations on online maps.

It opened to a window that Kishune couldn’t make out. On it was just two dots in a box. A title above it said Lilith’s belt room. He then looked to Riles as she said this was a map, which confused him. Then thought it was similar to one’s location on online maps. He then saw the slider and the + and - buttons at each end. He then tapped the minus button as Riles seemed to meddle with her menu. It pulled out the map a bit to show the floor they were on with two dots in one room. He then did it again and it lead to circular map with icons on it that Kishune raised an eyebrow at. The two dots became one as they were under an icon that looked like two hea…a Crescent Moon with ‘Z’s He raised his eyebrow at this but shrugged as he turned his attention to the title. Title called it Chordata Capital. There were one or two other dots within the circle map as well, but didn’t give them much attention as he pressed the minus button again and the map went square again giving off a similar sight to Kishune. It looked more like an actual map now to him but more detailed with the terrain. The Title then changed to Chordata, D2. There were other icons on the map, but Kishune didn’t touch them for now as he backed out more showing what could be a described as a world map maybe, as the minus button stopped working. The map was gridded and the only thing that wasn’t grayed out was one island to the far west with the word Chordata in the middle of it. "Ok I get it. The map zooms in and out to how defined you want it." He then looked to Riles as she explained. “Wait yours goes building/floor, City, Country/region, to world map? Mine goes Room, Building/Floor, City, I like to call it region as it only shows part of the country, then to world map.” He told her. ‘Could it be a class difference with how define my map is to hers?’ He thought as that was one thing they haven’t gotten to yet.

As she explained that the map had premade areas, and seemed to show certain things like shops. “Well yeah…that’s how a map is supposed to work right? Well, for populated areas at least.” He told her. He then looked at her as she muttered an Ehh before raising an eyebrow as she cleared her throat and continued. He then looked at the city map again as she talked about the icons. He then noticed the lack of icons that were on the city map but as she spoke about the legend that can open up revealing the rest. He was a bit confused then tapped the only other button he hasn’t pressed and map key/legend opened up, along with it their locations, though they were transparent as he hasn’t been to them yet. “Oh, by legend you mean the key of the map, ok.” He said as he over looked the icons presented now; armor, sword and shield, bottle, saw, two swords crossed, and a banner of some sort. Pressing the icons in the legend/key gave a brief description of the icon and what they stand for. He then looked back at Riles as she said he didn’t have to memorize them, he then nodded as she made a plan basically to go to a potion shop later. Kishune then noticed a tabs labeled Shops, and Jobs. When he tapped jobs however the key just went blank. He shrugged at this and hit the minus button to region map and the key changed to the types of towns.

Kishune then turned his attention to Riles as she explained why she specifically said potions, basically saying they were crucial for the game, he nodded showing he was listening but then stopped as he was confused when she mentioned HP and MP. When she paused a moment as she realized he didn’t know this, he tilted his head a bit. When she then went on to explain them starting with HP he glanced up at his top left seeing the bars. He didn’t know that was there till now. When Riles reminded him of the kick earlier he blushed as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment as she snickered.

Kishune then sighed as she went on to saying that he hasn’t healed yet as he needed to actually sleep somehow while in game when they were technically already asleep right? Or at least that’s how it was explained. When Riles then looked at him with a serious expression after she said if his HP ran out he die, which caused him to tense up a bit. ‘Wait die!?’ He thought worried about it as his body language again didn’t show that. He then let out a sigh as she said he just repawn and explained that. "Uh, sure.” He said as he looked at the weird face she made at him as she said he can try it out on his own.

When she started to explain MP now he started to nod again as he listened. Listening to her as she said how it is, made it seem like stamina to him, kinda.

Uh sure.” Kishune said to her question about finding out eventually. “And you’re right, we did kinda move off topic a bit, but that was vital information.” He said as he smiled under his mask. “Let’s move on to the next one. It should be self explanatory for the most part.” He told her as he closed out maps and went to press the last button in the main menu, but nothing happened. He looked at it confused then pressed it again, still nothing. He pressed it multiple times over before looking at Riles. “Hey, it’s not opening up for me what is it doing for you?” He asked her.

Akumada crossed his arms as he heard Yafang saying he didn’t come up with any plans. “Oh really? You didn’t hear my suggestion of stalking up on items and head to the next town a moment ago?” He said as he raised an eyebrow at him. “I said that to get us closer to the mission I reserved for us after we got use to the game and see how we fair. But I left it to you two to see if we stay or go, thus your plan to make her look like a whole horse.” Akumada explained as he pointed to Vrice as she was making the item.

After a moment Akumada then looked at Vrice as she worked on the item. ‘Wait…How long will that take?’ He wondered before looking up at the sky. The sun’s moving at a rather fast paste and has already moved past noon. “That item’s going to take rest the in game day to make I’ll bet…” He said and scratched the back of his head. ‘Man what are we going to do?’ He thought to himself.

Riles leaked a light "Heeh?" out of her mouth after Kishune said that he couldn't access the Options. Internally, alarms went off, but she quickly shut them down, and made sure that her facial expression didn't change. 'Maybe he's pressing it wrong? No... That wouldn't make sense. Then maybe it's a glitch? Yeah. That might be it.' Reassuring herself so, Riles closed down the map that was taking up her vision, and opened up the basic Menu in its place. Then... *Tap*

... Nothing happened. The alarms started ringing again, but Riles kept them under control, keeping a perfect poker face.

*Taptaptap*

... Again, nothing. Her smile twitched slightly, with sweat developing on her brow.

*Taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap*

Nothing. Nothing worked. Nothing was happening. Silence engulfed the room. Riles would have preferred the sounds of creaking beds and raspy moans over that silence any day, and part of her wanted to disturb that silence -- perhaps through a joke, or maybe with something like 'Well, looks like it's a bug~' with her tongue sticking out.

But she couldn't.

It being a bug was, indeed, a possibility... But Riles -- no, Riley's gut told her that this wasn't a technical malfunction. And it wasn't just her gut, either. Given the receptionist's sudden change in lines from the cliché Love Hotel's 'Would you like an hour stay?', the eerie silence that arose when the bedspring-SFX were cut off, and the Map's image of their 'Inn' changing, Riles was about 70% sure that rather than 'glitches', data was simply being rearranged in real time. If that was the case, then it meant a couple of things:

  1. They were being watched. Given the fact that the Strawberry-head from earlier was having his actions shown on a screen, this wasn't very far-fetched -- and perhaps it was for the best, too. 'Full Dive' VRs weren't of the norm, so there could have been a myriad of difficulties as soon as the group started up.
  2. Their 'Bug Reports' were 'filed' as soon as the Players found the bugs. This relates to 1, as any 'bugs' found would be squashed without the need for player input. This would usually be a pleasant point... If not for 3.
  3. The fact that the Options Menu was broken without an announcement despite the above two points, meant it was likely on purpose.

... *Tap*

Nothing.

"Haha... Ha..." After almost a minute of silence, Riles rested her elbows on her knees, and her chin on her hands. She had finally broken the silence with laugh... But it was as dry as the desert. She silently cursed how realistic this game was as it emulated the feeling of cold sweat going down her back. "Kishune... A couple of things, kay...?" she said, a serious atmosphere falling over her and coating the room. As she turned her eyes to the masked Kitsune, he would undoubtedly see through the cracks in her poker face, revealing a face of disbelief and anxiety. "I mentioned that you could test out the penalties of losing all of your HP later... I'm officially taking that back."

Riles raised her to Kishune, activating <Cure> and topping off his HP. "Until that button is operational, or until we've seen someone else die, and verified their revival, you're to keep your HP above 25% at all costs, and keep it full if possible." Contrary to her usually jovial smile, Riles had a serious frown on her face as she spoke. "As for why... Well, let's just say that an Option button not working on a Virtual Reality game has never been a good sign..." Riles looked down as she said so, wheels turning inside of her head.

If the situation wasn't as dire as she thought it was, she was fully willing to receive the embarrassment of being wrong -- but only after she was proven incorrect. After a deep breath, Riles returned her eyes to Kishune. "Let's just say that my joke about you 'dying' when you lost 100% HP might be more accurate than intended..."

Kishune looked at Riles with a confused look as she only let out a light Heh as a reply. Her awkward silence was a bit weird to him as well. He then watched her as she seemed to look back at her menu again and tap at it. After a brief moment she said nothing as she then tapped it a few more times, then seemed to hold her finger on it, or so he assumed. Her silence was a bit freaky to him as she hasn’t really been quiet this long before. He was starting to wonder if the game bugged up on him. He was about to wave his hand in front of her to see if she was alright before she tapped again and let out a disconcerting laugh. Kishune then let out a sigh of relief though.

When she leaned forward and rested her elbows on her knees and her head in her hand he looked at her with a raised eyebrow as she asked him a few things. She then told him that she took back the testing the scenario with what would happen if losing all HP would do. “Uh…ok?” He was confused why she brought that up suddenly. Before he knew it a light seemed to emit off him for a quick moment and his HP was then restored. He was a bit surprised by this and figured it was Riles action that did it. He then looked at her confused as she said he shouldn’t let his HP go lower than 25%. When she mentioned the option in the menu not working in Virtual Reality games, was never a good sign, Kishune raised an eyebrow in suspicion. Even her serious face was a bit off to him.

Uh huh…How do I know you’re just not trying to pull one over me?” He asked her. “I know who you are in the Real world and I could tell you play a prank at the drop of a hat if you wanted to.” He told her as he then stood up from the bed. Kishune didn’t know much about gaming, but he knew that this type of tech hasn’t been done before. Virtual Reality isn’t really a thing available to the public yet and thus could deduce what she was saying could be made up. “I don’t like being made a fool of…” He told her

(Part that effects everyone)

Before long a painful headache went through his and everyone’s minds that’s player in the game. Soon after, a message window appeared titled announcement. It read as followed:

Announcement

There is an update to the menu that wasn’t available to all players at the start. This new section is the Jobs. It allows creation of certain types of items to be made depending on the job. There will be a description of each job in the menu, as well as the locations to do said jobs that will be pointed out in the maps.

More Updates may follow.

After the pain passed, Kishune read the message. He sighed and closed the message. “Seems like a add on to the menu was made…maybe the Options were fixed too.” He suggested to her as he opened his menu and first started to check out the jobs in personal info. He then exited out of that and went to options after reading the jobs a bit. When he tapped options he sighed as nothing happened.
