overview.
Lit started with one.
a boy, only eight years old, his parents killed in front of him in cold blood. that boy grew into a man, one that vowed to have no child in gotham suffer the same misfortune he went through. and so, the batman was born, the dark knight, defender of gotham, the one swearing to protect others above all else- at the expense of himself. he was doomed to be alone, always alone, ever since that night at eight years old.
or so he thought.
tragedy turned their ranks to two. a child orphaned, much like batman himself, becoming the first robin, trained not so that they'd grow to be batman, but so that they wouldn’t. desperation turned two to three, and it only grew, a song spun of tragedy and longing and hope weaving its way throughout gotham until the streets swam with those carrying the symbol of the bat, protecting those who couldn’t protect themselves. but now, nearly thirty years after that fateful night, something is off, something nobody could’ve predicted.
the batman has gone missing.
with gotham’s caped crusader gone in the wind and nobody in or out of the mask able to gain contact, the city has fallen into a period of tension, a bubble ready to pop at a moments notice. impersonators are taking to the streets, crooks are getting cockier, and an elaborately executed escape by several notorious rogues from arkham makes some think this is all too big a coincidence to be just that. the city feels one bad day away from plunging fully into chaos.
but bruce wayne didn’t settle for a solitary life for a reason- every child taken in, life changed, was with the hope that they’d grow to become something better than batman, be the heroes to gotham that he never could. and though no one in this fucked-up family could’ve expected this sequence of events to be playing out, they took an oath to protect gotham; now, they have to uphold it. because they’re more than just a family.
they’re the gotham knights.

hyperfixation? what hyperfixation?
hi all! i've been in a ((mild)) dc phase lately (it's whiplash from the marvel phase i was in two years ago), and i've been really wanting to do something bat-family related!
i just want to say real quick, for this roleplay; you don't have to be a comic reader to join! this roleplay is loosely based around dc works (namely battle for the cowl, the arkham and gotham knights games, with some dynamics from wayne family adventures), but as long as you have a basic knowledge of the world and these characters and are willing to learn, you're more than welcome to join.
this will be an application-based roleplay, but roles are gonna work a bit differently- there is a character summary and their alias, but aside from those two, you have complete free reign over the character- name, age, gender, you can even tweak parts of the bio and persona as long as they line up with the character blurb! consider it like one big au.
anyways, thank you for reading this far- so excited to get to roleplay with you all!
roles
roles.
nightwing
open
the golden child. adopted by bruce wayne after your parents untimely demise, you became the first sidekick, the first one brought into this world. within time, you grew to surpass your mentor, becoming your own hero, the one to aspire to- but you're still fighting your own darkness, underneath the shiny exterior.
red hood
open
the prodigal son. the second robin after the first flew the coop, your fiery passion was only snuffed by your untimely demise. brought back by forces beyond your control, lingering bitter feelings and loose morals keep you at odds with the rest of the family, only a mutual sense of respect and memories of life before keeping you civil.
red robin
open
the world's second-greatest detective. you didn't have to become a hero. you could've went about your perfectly mundane life, accepting the role in society given to you. but you didn't. you couldn't stand aside. so, you found batman and nightwing's secret identity, convincing them to take you on after red hood's death- because batman needed a robin. you've since grown out of that shadow, but the circumstances of your heroics still weigh on you, causing you to wonder whether you are truly lauded for your bravery, or because you insisted upon it.
robin
open
the blood son. you're the biological child of bruce wayne, your existence unknown to the family until recently, when you appeared intent on inheriting the mantle of the bat. adapting to a half-normal life after your unusual upbringing has been an unexpected challenge, and even though you don't show it, your father's disappearance has made that task feel even more insurmountable.
oracle
open
the first casualty. after a debilitating injury permanently put you out of the field, you turned to helping the bats the way you knew best- through information. your computer skills and connection to the gcpd make you an invaluable asset, but you still can't fight that feeling of inadequacy, being stuck in the second degree and out of the line of fire.
spoiler
open
the rebel with a cause. you grew up in the shadow of your villainous parent, always loathing how your life and alignment felt preordained. you've fought tooth and nail to spoil your parents' plans, to prove that you were more than what they set out to make you, prove that you have a place as a hero in gotham. and yet, you still feel the need to keep fighting, because if you stop for even a second, then it'll prove you were never good enough to be a hero after all.
orphan
open
the living weapon. raised not to speak, but to sense, to read body language like a book. you knew what death was before you'd lived a fraction of your life, killing becoming your most fluent language. though you've been able to escape that life, you still face a physical and mental barrier, holding you back from the hero you feel like you need to be to atone for your past.
the signal
open
the newest recruit. you've always idolized the symbol batman could be, and so when you saw the opportunity to become your own hero, you pounced. your life seemed to come crashing down, however, when those you cared for the most were permanently altered by a villain attack and you started displaying unnatural abilities, ones that weren't welcome in gotham. despite having been officially welcomed in as a bat since then, you feel the need to prove yourself beyond your powers, that you're just as worthy as the others.
