Floating Islands

Griffin's attack left a shockwave in the wake of the arrow that dispersed the wind strike. His bow immediately burst into pieces from the forces leveraged. The sky proctor's prayer would reassemble the bow for Griffin as he warned," You have passed this trial, but know that you are ill-suited to the trials that await you here and in your future. Prepare yourself."

Rios only has one katana to fight with and his D grade ability is still on cooldown. As one might expect, the wind blasted through his katana again and shredded the last of Rios health before launching him off the island. A prayer from the proctor later, Rios would reappear in the center of the island with his one katana restored and in hand. "After using your strength, sometimes it is better to wait and regather it or try a different approach. You are capable of more than you realize. You rely too heavily on your power to twist fate and neglect your other strengths."

Kai's senses worked together to discern the presence and approach of the unseen wind elemental. He was able to dodge the wind's strike, turning a fatal blow into a glancing knick that dealt 1 damage to the sword. The proctor nodded congratulatory and permitted Kai to advance.

Hope's dark magic easily dispersed the windy attack. The dainty dodge that followed was skillful, but unnecessary after such a supreme class in dark magic use. The proctor would nod to Hope and permit her advancement to the next challenge.

Aedrianna's healing ability was unquestionable. Hiruq was instantly restored in full. Such powerful healing would be hard to come by for a while though. (6 post cooldown) In contrast, the alchemy potion didn't have any discernible effect for Hiruq. The wolf clearly didn't care for the flavor either, but would brush up against his ally all the same before walk ahead of her with a gentle swish of its tail. Hiruq's ears and eyes were at attention as it occasionally sniffed at the air.

Kota carefully took in his situation and perceived the elemental coming. His punch was powerful enough and timed right. Rather than a repeat of last time, he neutralized the worst of the attack and was able remain standing despite getting battered. With half health (1hp damage, 1 remaining), he would be approved by the proctor to advance.

1700020023256-png.1124659

Ralph's attack would be met by the one of the golem's many hands. Held like a blade, the hand met the axe in a clash of force before ultimately shattering the axe. One of the golemn's other hands would point and an electrical array would hit the shards of the axe and bring it back together good as new. "Patience. Think. Leverage all you have in order to strike with all your might."

Winrey's bombardment of the golem in caustic chemicals didn't seem to do much to the golem as a whole but it didn't immediately result in retribution to Winrey. A voice would sound,"You may advance."
Lauren rushed the golem and used her new electric attack against the golem. Same as before, the golem met the attack and damaged Lauren's body enough for her to black out. She would wake up in the center of the space sometime later, healed. A voice would speak, "Your actions are sufficiently strong but they lack coordination. You start too far away and put too much emphasis on one attack."

1700384158629-png.1125443

Beyond the platform with the Golem on it, a series of smaller platforms would float up to greet those that have passed the Golem's trial. Stepping on them, they would ferry whoever road them to the 3rd trial. The third trial did not have any proctor. It was simply a series of islands between where the characters land and where they need to go: the final trial. The sky between the two islands was a dangerous zone where islands spun and shifted. Someone careful could feasibly leap from one island to the next. However, those that dawdle would be more likely to be hit by the a gravity distortion where the random gravitational effects in the space driving the islands would be applied to the trial takers. Were that to happen, damage would be the least of their concerns. So regardless how the trial takers did it, the goal remained: get to the 4th trial.

When Winrey was told he was allowed to pass, he actually felt relief. A part of him (a very LOUD one) kept telling him there was no way his plan would work. However, it seemed he was right and that sometimes tests were far simpler than they seemed. Though Lauren was not as lucky. He'd have to leave her behind since it seemed her second attempt did not work. Ah well...such is life. He went on ahead without sparing a glance back. He's sure Lauren would understand, hopefully. After all he did refrain from pushing her in the way of that Golem to escape the first time he laid eyes on it, and in his book that was as good as befriending someone you'd just met.
The third testing area was devoid of people, flying proctors included. Nobody was there to monitor him at all, which didn't unnerve him. What made him feel uneasy was the nature of the test. Giant land forms shifted and floated by the solid piece of island he was on. If he strained his eyes, in the distance he could see the "goal", where he was supposed to go for the fourth trial. He had hoped this would be the last, what with the rule of threes and everything. Winrey sighed,
I've been whisked away to partake in one long test it seems...But the test did seem simple enough for him to complete. And he finally got his energy back to do more useful skills.

Having rabbit genes made him a very agile person, despite his lazy disposition. And now he'd have to put his skills to the test in order to make it to the other side. The best course of action would be to quickly make my way through each platform, to get past this trial as soon as possible. He crouched down, planting his hands in front of him while his feet were planted on the ground ready to sprint and jump across. Let's go while there's still daylight. He jumped to the other platform, and immediately continued onward to the second and the third. One of the platforms had drifted a little ways away, and he impatiently waited for it to drift closer before he continued. He was somewhat glad no one was around to see since jumping and running in this way was a little...embarrassing. But as his heart raced with adrenaline, Winrey also enjoyed himself quite a bit. He'd try to make his way across the gap of floating islands in this way.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Lauren woke up from the second time blacking out, glancing as Winrey seemed to pass the trial. Good for him. As she slowly got up again she could hear the proctors voice again, though at least this time it gave her some much needed advise. She pondered how she could potentially go about attacking the golem, though the lack of any combat experience would dampen her chances of succeeding. While she thought of a way to proceed she saw others had cleared the previous trial, now more frustrated as she watched the golem's electricity reassembled his broken axe... An idea popped into her head as she then turned back towards the Golem, walking up to it as her previous attempts made it clear it wouldn't attack her until she tried attacking it. As she approached she felt an [Electrostatic Pulse] building up inside of her body, though this time she had more control over it than before... She just had to imagine her nerves as wires and channel her mana accordingly. As she got close preemptively activated [Holographic Sheen] as well, her eyes burning with determination as she then started sprinting straight towards it. Without any hesitation she gave it a firm punch as some of the electricity she had built up was release, though the main difference now is that not all of the electricity was released all at once. She then quickly pivoted onto her foot much like before and gave it a hard kick, feeling another burst of electricity leave her body as the charge kept building up. She knew that it was going to attack eventually, though she poured all of her effort into striking it as many times as possible - each strike sounding a loud crackle as the ever-building electricity within her body kept erupting out of her each strike.

As her momentum slowed and her mana was depleted she stumbled backwards and fell onto her back, panting from overexerting herself as her muscles cramped and she was rendered unable to move. Maybe she damaged her nerves, or maybe it was her body telling her to rest... Regardless, she now patiently awaited the Golems retaliatory attack, though not before raising her mechanical arm in an attempt to try and block it.

Actions:
  • Sprint straight towards the Golem
  • Use [Electrostatic Pulse] and [Holographic Sheen]
  • Use all of her limbs to punch and kick the Golem several times. Each strike is imbued with smaller electrical shocks from [Electrostatic Pulse], instead of her releasing it all at once
  • Prepare for the Golems attack and attempt to block it using only her arm

Once again Ralph's axe was shattered into pieces, but he kinda expected it to happen anyway. His strongest move was still on cooldown, and it wasn't as if he could do anything else but wait for it to come back up. "Alright mister golem, one more time then!" As he was still standing right before the golem, he would swing at it 3 times.

Lauren's rush followed by a series of electrical martial strikes was met by a swatting hand, but unlike before, Lauren only got knocked back a few feet and took minor damage. "You started too early and did not have as much power as you thought you did. However, you are still standing, so you may advance." (1hp damage, 1hp remaining. She can only use 1 F grade ability per post.)

Ralph came, saw, and conquered. His latest strategy proved effective in that he took no damage as his barrage of attacks connected with the golem. "You have done well. You may advance to the next challenge."

1700384158629-png.1125443

Winrey's E grade abilities were still on cooldown. Additionally, he did not exercise enough caution. As a consequence, Winrey was not mobile enough or cautious enough to cross the fields of shifting terrain. He is cast a drift on one of the islands where he sailed into a gravity anomaly that ripped at his body. (1hp damage, 2 remaining)

Moving on to the next area, it would appear that Ralph's earlier strategy of just swinging his axe around would be of no use here. Not really knowing what's the best course of action here, he'd begin by jumping from island to island using his ability.

Aedrianna tucked her lute back into it's case on her back and slapped her cheeks with a deep breath.
"Okay! We can do this Hiruq!" She gave herself a peptalk, staring up at the next trial ahead. "I'm gonna use my mirror and try to keep it distracted while I'm running at it in a zigzag. If I Can get close enough, I'll tackle it. But maybe.... you try and jump at it from the side? Or whatever works best for you. You're better at this than me anyways!" Her panicked blabber began to run together before she finally bit her tongue and poured out all of her determination into doing what needed to be done. She dug out the little hand mirror she kept in her satchel and did her best to reflect the natural light into the creature's line of sight, and as she did so she took off at a breakneck speed, zig zagging towards the golem in hopes to reach and tackle the creature. She was hoping that the potion she'd just drunk a few moments ago hadn't already worn off. And surely it couldn't hit both her and Hiruq at once, one of them was likely to land a hit. At least she hoped.

Actions
1.Pull out Mirror
2. Aim mirror at light/eyesight? [Light affinity: Grade F]?
3. Run in Zig Zag towards the golem to try and distract and possibly tackle.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Upon hearing the proctor proclaim her success Lauren slowly rose back up from the ground, tired and worn out from the fight. Pain pulsed through her chest as she walked towards the next trial, her mechanical hand gripping at her chest while she struggled to bear with the pain. Step after step she slowly made her way towards the next trial, watching from a distance as Winrey tried and failed to traverse between the moving islands. Upon reaching the edge of where the trial began she sat down and rummaged through her pockets, pulling out various tools and straightening out her mechanical legs before detaching them from her body and beginning repairs using her knowledge of [Basic Robotics]. While there wasn't much she could do about the bent and or torn metal plating on the outside, she could easily reattach the various loose wires back to where they were needed. Motor fans that needed to be cleaned, joints that needed more lubricating oil - all of it bringing a slight smile to her face as the pain became less noticeable. By the time she was finished performing the temporary repairs on her mechanical legs she reattached them to the sockets covering her stumps, slowly getting back up onto her feet and making sure that she could move around without issue before looking back at the trial before her. Still needing some time to recover from the last trial, she decided to rest for a little bit and see who else made it past the 2nd Trial.

Actions:
  1. Approach the 3rd Trial
  2. Use [Basic Robotics] to repair her mechanical legs by hand
  3. Take a moment to rest

Winrey clumsily landed on one of the islands, not nearly making it far enough. His plan was quickly thrown to the dogs, and he let out a tired groan from the pain in his body. He decided he'd take a short moment to just get his body moving again before running straight into the problem. Ugh...this test is dragging on for so long...and now I hurt all over...After he caught his breath and he was able to stand, he realized his body was bruised and battered now. Whatever had caught him in midair had thrown him around like a rag doll, and there were marks to prove it. It felt like being shoved and pushed around, but not by wind. Was that force gravity? He knew what that was thankfully, and it became even more apparent as he looked at the ways the islands shifted and floated. There are islands beneath the one I'm on now...and ones above as well. Is the gravity different for each island? The force pushing and pulling the islands around became obvious to him now. Then I guess the safest option is to go up? He looked up at an island that's ledge was just close enough for someone to jump and climb. Going down to the lower islands meant possibly free falling, or worse getting torn asunder by a higher islands gravitational force. He only ever seemed to get pushed and shoved around in the air if he was not paying attention to which islands he tried to go for.

Another island higher above him was slowly descending now over the one he stood on, and he knew then that he also couldn't afford to just stand around and study his path. He decided he'd use his ability again, but this time he was paying attention to the islands he traveled on.

The blast of wind was still just as destructive Kota managed to withstand its blow, he slid back in place a bit but maintained his form. His body and clothes were battered and bruised but to his surprise no broken bones. A crooked smile formed on his face, a mix of nerves and relief at the same time. The Kitsune fist pumped the air out of excitement as the proctor approved him to move on to the next trial. Kota bowed promptly, grimacing through the pain but still maintaining his manners as he moved onto the next platform.

The next area took place in an arena, with large pillars erected from the ground coupled with ominous clouds that overlooked the arena. Kota could feel the hairs on the back of his next stand-up. Once Kota was at the center of the arena a voice filled his head that instructed him on the next trial which indicated it would be a test of strength. He would need to dig very deep inside if he wanted to survive. He took a deep breath in before exhaling, attempting to drown his nerves and prepare for the trial before him. A colossal golem formed before him composed of ethereal energy. Its glossy body radiated throughout the sky as it looked down upon the Kitsune, despite being very large for its size it moved nimbly in a frightening manner. A nervous chuckle escaped Kota's lips as he raised his guard in preparation to fight. Combating and interacting with Etheral spirits ran in his bloodline, so the situation was too far from what he was used to. Nonetheless, he was afraid for sure but again excited. Afraid to perhaps perish at this moment and not live up to the expectations he set for himself when he came to this world. On the contrary, he was excited to have a chance to live up to and surpass those expectations. After nearly losing his life in the first trial he wasn't going to take his foe for granted.

Kota spent no time waiting around once the golem was ready, rushing towards the foe's legs. Once he was within striking distance he engulfed his claws in magic and attempted a swipe on the foe's right Achilles tendon.

Hope Mitchell

Hope.jpg

Hope beamed as she saw the proctor's affirming nod, relief quickly bringing her heart to an acceptable pace. "Thank you!" She chirped before running off to the next trial, arriving just in time to witness two more of her fellow chosen move onto the subsequent test. The proctor's words echoed in her head as she eyed the mighty golem. "A test of my offensive abilities..." She thought, peering down at her catalyst, "So I just got to hit it really, really hard?" After a brief moment, she nodded, "Alright. Easy-peasy - you've got this!"

Taking a deep breath, Hope brought one hand forward, chaos and shadow co-mingling to form a crackling, black orb within the palm of her hand. Again, she chanted in Sylvan, pouring shadow into the orb until she dwarfed it in size. Her eyes locked onto the golem, then darted momentarily to Aedrianna and Kota rushing in for their attacks. "Keep them out of cross-fire." Hope reminded herself, twisting her magic to harm the golem alone before releasing the giant ball of [Anarchy - D] center mass.

As [Anarchy] soared at the golem, Hope quickly dashed forward into range, channeling her magic into five black, smaller spheres beside her. Chanting a spell, she threw out her hand, sending all five orbs of [Unfettered Chaos - E] at the golem's legs, restricting her magic to damage it only.

  • [Anarchy] - Chaos Affinity F + Shadow Affinity F + Magic D + Magic Range E + Magic Targets E + Energized D + Selective Magic E + Magic AoE E + Homing F + Flare F (Vision) + Continuing F - Hope twists her shadow magic with mind-numbing chaos, forming a giant black sphere that seeks its target and explodes in a 50ft radius on impact. Afterward, it releases 9 smaller spheres that also seek out the nearest enemy. Targets struck take will also continuous damage for 1 post and have their vision obscured. With Selective Magic, certain targets can be rendered immune to the attack. - Grade D - 1 Post Cooldown
  • [Unfettered Chaos] - Affinity (Chaos) F + Magic Range F + Magic Targets F + Magic E + Continuing F + Homing F + Energized E + Selective E + AoE F + Focus E - Hope concentrates her magic into five unstable globs of chaos, which home at targets within 30ft, exploding in a 15ft radius on impact and dealing continuous damage. It can be manipulated to avoid harming certain targets. - 0 post cooldown - Grade E

Rios
Mentions:

Rios tasted the bitterness of defeat once more. His other sword was still broken and the Goddess of Luck was likely contemplating chastisement for how much he was relying on her boon. Yet Rios was in no mood to simply give up after coming this far. Once he reappeared to face the challenge of the wind once more. He instead chose to remember how the wind moved, how it felt when it approached and felt when it shredded through him. Wielding his remaining katana with one hand and trying to get a sense for the air currents with his other hand. Rios chose this time to take on the wind by adapting to its own movements. It took a form suited for cutting with him, therefore he had to cut through IT first. Giving his sword a few good swings to try and test this new style out. Rios focused his eyes forward and channeled his energy in using [Appraisal C] on his immediate surroundings. Spamming the detection ability in addition to feeling out the wind. When it came time for the trial of wind once more. Rios awaited its attack to come for him once more. This time he slashed in the same direction as it came at him; horizontal, vertical and even diagonal. Knowing the proctor was watching and waiting for him to fail just so he would learn a lesson THEIR way. A defiant Rios refused to be humbled in such a fashion, instead choosing to directly adapt via the methods used against him instead.

Rios's attack was effective in dispersing the wind elemental, but not without shattering his katana again and having half his health cleaved in the process. Same as before, a prayer would restore his sword but not his health this time. "You may proceed to the next trial. But know you are ill-suited as you are to the demands that will be placed upon you." The proctor cautioned solemnly. (3hp damage. 2hp remaining)

1700020023256-png.1124659

Adrianna's light flash did momentarily flash in an eye of the golem. Beyond that, there was little evidence to suggest the golem cared about what she did even when she started hugging one of its legs. Meanwhile, Hiruq dutifully charged in from the opposing side to sink fangs into the monstrous entity. The wolf was immediately replaced with a bloody mist and a crunching sound as one of the golem's sent the crushed in form of the wolf bouncing across the island. Leaving bloodied spots with each bounce off the ground before a final streak leading to his resting place, Hiruq remained motionless.

Like Hiruq before him, Kota would get smashed into by one of the golems massive fists when he went on the offensive. Like the wolf, Kota was sufficiently pounded into paste and down for the count as what was left of him rolled away from the golem.

Hope's Anarchy spell fizzled without going off. Her Unfettered Chaos spell was more successful. The black orbs flew on target, but were intercepted mid-air by one of the golems hands releasing an electrical surge at Hope. The orbs bobbed and weaved, but were ultimately all consumed before the electrical blast was diverted off target, only damaging hopes catalyst. The catalyst was damaged to the point of preventing hope from leveraging the necessary amount of power to continue. "Remember your magic requires focus. Still yourself if you must. And know you are capable of greater feats."

The golem's back hand would point its fingers and an electrical array would appear around Hiruq, Kota, and Hope's catalyst. In a flashing and several loud zaps of energy, all would be restored to full so they may continue the trial. Hiruq was visibly downtrodden and backed away from the golem with a whimper. "You are all capable of more. Sometimes patience and positioning is important. Sometimes exercising caution and care for your things is appropriate as well."

1700384158629-png.1125443

Ralph did not exercise enough caution as he was jumping from island to island. As a consequence, Ralph was caught unawares when an island shifted unexpectedly through an anomaly that ripped at his body as he passed through it. He was sent a drift on one of the islands. (1hp damage, 2 remaining)

Lauren's efforts to repair herself were presently fruitless, but perhaps in time the technology that makes up part of her body would heal itself.

Winrey was successful in exercising more care. He made some progress toward the final trial. However, he was not moving quickly enough. In trying to find the next safe path forward, the island he was standing out dropped out from under him, causing him to fall and hurt himself again. He was almost to the end. (1hp damage taken. 1hp remaining)

Ralph

Passing through some unknown anomaly that ripped at his body, Ralph cursed under his breath. Thus far, he purely used brute force to barge his way through the trials, but he couldn’t just blindly continue on without a plan in mind this time round. The issue was that he wasn’t exactly the brightest bulb in the room. That being said, he had to give it a shot anyway.

Ralph carefully scanned the shifting islands nearby, looking out for any anomalies in the area surrounding those islands. He would then settle on the next 2 that seemed the most safe and slow-moving, before quickly jumping to them with boosted jump.

Winrey had fallen quite far, and hurt himself in the process of trying to move forward. He stood up, and winced as he did, his leg sore from the fall. It wasn't broken thankfully, but it definitely still hurt him. He was becoming more and more annoyed at this test he'd been whisked away to complete, and it didn't seem to be ending anytime soon. Just how many tests are there? He wondered, as he saw just how close to the finish line he was. I'm completely out of options outside of just going forward. At least if I die and fail, I'll be reset hopefully. And then my leg can stop killing me...He pondered briefly chucking himself off the side of the island and killing himself just so he could restart with new knowledge, but there were no proctors nearby and he wasn't certain he'd be revived without the presence of one. I already know the trick to getting across, I just have to keep going a little more...Winrey sent a quick prayer to the God of Death, and then soldiered on ignoring the pain in his body.

A short yelp escaped Hope as her attacks were intercepted by the golem; another quickly followed as her catalyst shattered on her chest. Before she could asses the damage done, bloodied figures flew past her peripherals. The beaten heaps were there for a split second, electricity arcing before her eyes as Kota and Hiruq returned to normal. She gazed down to find even her catalyst was fixed, too. "Christ..." She muttered, cradling her pendant in one shaky hand. A good thing to know mistakes weren't permanent - but the consequences were nothing far from real. She'd have to be more careful.

An uneasy shiver coming over her, Hope turned to look at her fellow chosen. It'd take a while to conjure that level of magic again. Maybe she could try something in the meantime? "H-hey? Excuse me?" She walked closer to Rios, Kota, and Adrianna, "Hi, I'm Hope. Fellow... trialgoer?" Hope said, awkwardly waving at all of them, "I know, horrible time for introductions, but I'm thinking we should work together..." She peered over her shoulder at the golem before lowering her voice, "I've got a spell that'll tangle the golem's legs, just for a little. That'll leave a chance for you all to get in and do some damage together." She nodded, "Get ready. I'm going in."

With that said, Hope dashed off diagonally to the golem, clutching at her catalyst. Once she reached an acceptable range, she paused and slapped her palms against the ground, channeling magic into her hands. She chanted, a shadowy void growing from the floor and extending to the golem. Several dark tentacles emerged from the veil and attempted to wrap themselves firmly around the golem's legs with [Umbral Grasp - E], hopefully immobilizing it long enough for subsequent attacks.

Aedrianna was holding tight to Hiruq, questioning her resolve to see this test through; when the strange shadowy figure ran up to suggest they work together. Her initial reaction might have been a little offensive, as she shrank away in shock. But Hope, as she'd stated her name was already taking off to cast her spell. She wiped a few unshed tears from her eyes and stroked Hiruq.

"Look, Hiruq, don't run up again. You've already almost died twice now..." She glanced down at Hiruq. She never really knew if he fully understood her or not, but he was a fairly intelligent canine. Surely he realized without her telling him, that he shouldn't do it again. She should have known better to begin with. "I'm sorry, Maybe if we team up we can do this." Her legs were a little shaky as she stood, but she somehow managed it. Watching Hiruq and the white haired boy get thrown back and smashed like that was horrific. As she started to walk closer to the Kitsune boy, she started digging in her satchel, pulling out a clear bottle of liquid, and a vial of white powder. She was working as quickly as she could, not even sure that the small thought in her head would work, but Hope had said her spell wouldn't last long and she was already casting.

"Uuhm...S-sorry" She stuttered, not really sure what to say to someone who just had their organs smashed and knit back together with a jolt of lightning. As she was talking her hands were moving, opening another vial and pouring some of the white powder into the clear liquid. "She said she's going to trip it I think, but it's still electrical. If you touch it you might get hurt again...." Her hand dove back into the leather satchel and pulled out a copper wire out, and her little personal mirror that had a metal case. She wrapped one end around the mirror, and the other around the neck of one of the bottles, then wrapped the vial of white powder up against the bottle of liquid. "I'm going to throw this at the golem. When it smashes and both bottles break, it should cause a blinding light, so when I shout out, close your eyes for a second before you take off. But mostly, the copper wire, and the metal should tangle up around it when the bottles smash, and ground it...I hope. So maybe you won't get hurt again." She wasn't exactly sure on the science of it all. But it was worth a shot, she hoped.

With a nervous smile of encouragement, she turned towards the golem and followed after Hope. Readying the bottles she watched and waited, until Hopes spell released. Once the shadowy figure released her spell, Aedrianna let out a shrill cry "NOW" And then proceeded to chuck the bottle with all of her might towards the golem, shutting her own eyes as soon as the bottles left her fingers.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Lauren felt her body regenerate itself almost instantaneously, with all of the bruises and cuts on her skin disappearing alongside all of the tears and dents in her artificial limbs having been fully repaired. A sense of relief and curiosity filled her eyes before it was swiftly replaced with newfound confidence, looking towards the islands to watch how both Winrey and Ralph were getting beaten up by... Something. She particularly focused on what had happened to the rabbit-eared person, noticing loose rocks flying up before getting pummeled into tiny pieces. She could also notice the lack of strong wind near the anomaly, which suggested it was the force of gravity at work. Lauren looked around her and picked up some pebbles from her surroundings, placing them into her pockets before looking to the first island. Using her knowledge of [Physics] she got a running start and jumped for the first island, having timed it to where it would be to give herself more time to check for where the anomaly would be. Quickly after landing she chucked one of the stones she collected as hard as she could in the direction the island was moving towards, keeping track of how far it was until its path was altered by the gravitational forces at play - using that information to predict how much time she had until the island would reach it. Looking to the next island she threw another pebble to ensure no anomalies existed between her current position and her target, jumping forward to the next island once she was confident her path was clear of influence. Lauren repeated this process from island to island, with her skin becoming more bruised and the metal becoming more dented as each landing was far from graceful. Despite the pain, she refused to slow down. She couldn't afford to slow down. She knew what she needed to do to complete this trial, and she had a feeling that waiting for her body to heal wouldn't be a wise idea either... She planned to continue until she ran out of pebbles to check for anomalies, which she hoped that she could clear the trial before that happened.

Actions:
  1. Picked up pebbles and stones and stored them inside of her pockets (44).
  2. Using [Physics] Lauren jumps from island to island, optimizing her chances of success by jumping for where the islands will be as opposed to where they currently are.
  3. In between island jumps she throws a stone in the direction the island is moving towards, observing for if and when the stone changes direction from any anomalies in that direction.
  4. Before jumping to the next island she throws a stone to check for anomalies between the islands, jumping to the next after she's confident that her path is clear.
  5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 until she runs out of pebbles to throw, or until she falters.

Rios

Rios lay on the grounds to the second trial looking half dead. His body was battered and bruised from his attempts to pass just the first trial. However he refused to admit any sort of apology or acknowledgement of their proctor. Listening to the approaching black void faced person. Rios nodded in agreement, not wanting to expend any more energy on conversation. Watching the pair of the void face one and the alchemist girl make their attacks. Rios brought himself onto his feet and took a few deep breaths. His other sword had been shattered, leaving him with a broken blade. Choosing to wield it alongside his remaining sword in place of a wakizashi. Rios timed his own attack for when the flashbang potion had reached maximum brightness. Triggering his [Appraisal C] to get through the bright light impairing his aim. Close to death and feeling a fire spreading throughout his body. Rios grit his teeth and put more of his strength into his attack than normal. Unlike before, this was a power type attack. Crossing his blades over his head. He quickly brought them down in a similarly cross slash targeted at the golem which was attempting to batter them all. His survival and continued participation in this trial hinged on whether or not he could properly battle these increasingly dangerous threats.

Aedrianna and Rios's teamup with Hope did not prove effective. The flashbang was not bright enough to blind anything. Rios has one, and only one, sword. Hope's ability triggered the defense response in the construct as it attempted to do damage and bind the target (despite the description of the ability. need non-lethal). By the time Aedrianna and Rios scampered up to the golem to launch their attacks, it released a massive lighting aoe that covered the arena. Aedrianna and Rios would not be aware of their bodies exploding. Only Hope and Hiruq would know, Hiruq in particular remaining in a particularly agitated state even as Aedrianna (and her tools) and Rios (and his ONE sword) are restored to full health to the land of the living with only the memory of a flash of light preceding them reappearing in the center of the arena. Hiruq would paw and sniff at Aedrianna fervently. Hope's catalyst had been damaged once again as a kickback from the spell she had cast, but the catalyst had been restored as it was before.

Ralph carefully and swiftly passed to the final stage of the trial without further injury.

Winrey passed managed to navigate to the far island with Ralph on nothing but luck and a prayer, but a win is a win perhaps.

Lauren wasn't so fortunate. (characters only have 3 actions max per turn for world rps.) Her method was careful, but she only got 1/3 of the way across, and despite her caution, a gravity anomaly appeared where she was. Her island pulled her out of it before it could take full effect. Her limbs had felt like they were getting ripped from her body. It was intense enough that there actually was some separation tissue from metal. (1hp damage, 1hp remaining)

After passing the floating islands, battered and wounded the trial takers would arrive at the final island and location of the last trial. A massive landscape of fire and ice stretches out before them. Standing in the middle of the field is a huge titan of the fire and ice. As the titan noticed the approach of the trial takers, its core on its chest would turn an icy blue. A booming voice would echo across the plain.
"When you are ready, step forward and face your final trial. Know that there is no turning back once begun and you'll need to leverage all you have learned, as well as each other, to overcome me."
The breeze blowing over the field was both hot and cold, smelling crisp and clear at times and filled with fire and brimstone at others.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

When Lauren was caught by the spontaneous appearance of the anomaly an intense pain ran throughout her body, shrieking out in pain as it pulled her metal limbs and the sockets they were attached to off of her nerves. When it was over the pain lingered and her limbs were shaking uncontrollably, feeling the warmth of her blood trickling down on her shoulder and hips as a glance revealed that it only would have taken an extra few seconds to tear her limbs off completely. She slowly tried to stand up despite the intense throbbing pain, only to collapse back onto her hands and feet as she watched Winrey continue forward to the next trial. Her second attempt was more successful as she managed to stay upright and avoid falling back down again, though the pain was now more intense from her weight pressing down onto the torn nerves - tears gushing out as she tried to focus on completing the trial. It would only be a matter of time before the island would run straight into another anomaly, and the newfound fear she developed from the intense pain they caused only intensified her growing desperation. If they could spontaneously appear wherever and whenever at random, she needed to minimize her chances for that to happen. And so she decided to revise her plan, taking a few moments to try and let the pain subside before taking action again.

Using her knowledge of [Physics] she continued jumping from island to island, taking an educated guess as to where they would be after she jumped. The first jump after the anomaly was painful, with the landing even more so as the loose metal sockets stabbed into her body with the force her body took to slow her back down. She nearly screamed out of pain again before throwing one of the pebbles in the direction the island was moving, before quickly running towards where the next island would be. The revision to her plan was simple: Minimize her time on each island to the bare minimum, and she could easily do that by jumping between islands without checking. She was more likely to run into another anomaly, though it was either that or risk being torn apart again at any given moment. She didn't have time to take it slow in this trial, though she couldn't afford to be careless either. Each jump she threw a pebble to where the island she would land on would soon enough be, giving her just enough time to make it past to the next island... Hopefully. She couldn't afford to screw up again, as the sky seemed to be growing more restless.

Actions:
  1. Used [Physics] to predict where islands will be when she jumps, alongside better maintaining her momentum.
  2. Throw a pebble to where the next island will be a few seconds after she lands on it.
  3. Minimize her time spent on any given island to avoid spontaneously appearing anomalies.

Somehow, Ralph would have made it to the final trial in one piece, having caught up with the rabbit who was ahead of everyone thus far. She did seem a little beaten up from the third trial though. Shifting his gaze over, he'd find a giant elemental titan looming over them.

“What the hell is that thing even? We’re supposed to beat that?” He asked Winrey incredulously, before regaining his composure. “Anyways, I’ll be going ahead first. Try and see what it’s capable of, perhaps scout out some of its moves.” After saying this, he’d waste no more time, charging straight in for the titan. “Let’s do this then, big guy!”

Upon closing the distance, he’d swing at the titan’s massive foot, before bracing himself, doing it all together with [Attack and defend].

Actions:
1. Charge towards the titan
2. Attack it
3. Defend by bracing

[Attack and defend] - Super strength F, Appraisal E - Ralph strongly swings his axe at the foot of the titan. He then braces himself by flexing with tons of strength. - Grade E - 1 Post Cooldown

Brown Rabbit | Enigma | "Ugh...Tests are so bothersome..."

Winrey did not find the final test to look appealing at all, and so promptly sat himself down by the entrance instead of going straight in. He was surprised to find that another person had made it at the same time as he did. "Are you sure that's a good-" Before he could warn the Catkin that ran straight into the fray, he was gone. "Idea....? Oh well. I'm sure he'll be fine. Maybe." If there was anything left of Ralph after his fight with the monster, Winrey would try to see if he could "borrow" any of his remains for future experiments. It's not like he'll need any of them afterwards anyways... But he could deal with that later, Winrey placed it from his mind, and worried about recuperating. The first thing he wanted to fix was his damaged body. He wasn't an expert in healing magic at all, but he at least knew Alchemy that could reverse some of the bruising on his body. He also wanted to refill all of his holy water vials. Earlier he'd prayed to god to help him through such a horrifying ordeal, and truly the Lord of Death must have been watching over him then. He refilled the vials using some of the melted ice the monster up ahead made that had trickled past the threshold.

After that, he sat down, took his book of Alchemy out and began to read. He was certain there was something in it earlier about mending your own wounds with Alchemy, though it was nothing close to Healing magic. (And just sitting for a while to rest would also help him recover, albeit slowly.)

Wounds, Illness, and other annoying ailments!

Have you picked up Alchemy with the idea that you can't recover or help yourself heal at all, since you're not really using magic? Well dash that idea from your mind immediately! There is a simple way to help one recover with Alchemy!
Of course, this book will not help you recover a lost limb or bring someone from the brink of death. But reversing small patches of bruised skin, or numbing pain or an ache in your body is doable. You will just need a shrub from the parthenium family, or in layman's terms: A weed! Submerging it in water will be enough to continue the act of transmutation. With one motion, you can create: Feverfew.

Feverfew is a breed of parthenium that often helps with all sorts of ailments, and depending what you mix it with, you can create different efftects such as: numbness, lower blood pressure, and lower fever (just like the name!) Of course, too much of anything is a bad thing. So make certain you don't ingest or touch too much Feverfew. It can cause the opposite to happen, like headaches or rash.

Winrey looked around his surrounding area and was relieved to find just the common weeds he was looking for. Though the monster for the final test heralded ice and fire, it's power seemed to only encroach so far. The short area he rested in was still somewhat verdant, although it was hanging on by a thread. With the weeds in hand, and a vial of holy water now freshly refilled, he calmly followed the instructions in the book and created Feverfew. He dabbed some on the parts that hurt the most, and then decided he'd rest for a little while more, at least to see if anyone else would come to fight the monster.

Actions:

Refill holy water vials
Read-"Novice's guide to Alchemy"
Create-"Feverfew" (Alchemy F)

Hope Mitchell
Hope.jpg

Hope clicked her tongue as another deluge of lightning showered upon her and the chosen. For a split second, she felt her catalyst shatter before a familiar light filled her eyes, everything resetting before she could fully process what had happened. It was evident enough teamwork hadn't helped her pass. "What now...?" She closed her eyes and scoured through her mind. She remembered her first attempt. Not bad, just unfocused. Hope peered down at her catalyst. That may be the answer. She'd just have to do it again - the right way.

Nodding to herself, Hope dashed forward, raising a hand and whispered a familiar spell, slinging a barrage of [Unfettered Chaos - E] strictly at the golem. Then, with her feet planted, she collected herself, conjuring another glob of [Anarchy - D], sending the ball of magic hurtling toward the golem as well.

  • [Unfettered Chaos] - Affinity (Chaos) F + Magic Range F + Magic Targets F + Magic E + Continuing F + Homing F + Energized E + Selective E + AoE F + Focus E - Hope concentrates her magic into five unstable globs of chaos, which home at targets within 30ft, exploding in a 15ft radius on impact and dealing continuous damage. It can be manipulated to avoid harming certain targets. - 0 post cooldown - Grade E

Hope's efforts were valiant, but it was too little too late. Her anarchy spell was not one she could perform without remaining stationary for a time or with enhanced focus. As such, her Unfettered Chaos also failed to properly activate. There was simply not enough time and focus to do all that she wish and both her spells wound up fizzling. The construct did not react to her efforts. There was nothing to react to. This was the end.

"Your efforts are commendable. However, your trial will end here....and know you are capable of even greater things, Daughter of Source"

(there's not enough time for hope to complete the trial. Thanks for participating.)

Lauren carefully and persistently made it off the islands to the final battlefield on the far side. She would be able to join up with Winrey.

1701034459373-png.1126966

Ralph bravely stepped forth to contest the titan alone. His attacks connected with the Titan and he had a moment to note the frosty hand of the titan pass over before he was no more. In the distance, Lauren and Winrey would witness Ralph disappear in a storm of giant ice shards that would leave anything caught beneath them in frozen shreds. (Thanks for participating. Rewards will be posted at the end)

Nothing about Winrey's rest, alchemical concoctions, or holy water would offer any healing or relief from the harshness of their trial, but it was an effective way to pass the time and practice mixing.
