Realistic or Modern Foster Life

Amanda takes another deep breath and pushes again, screaming out in pain as she does so, and growing tired. She collapses onto the hospital bed and takes deep breaths.

"Keep it together, Amanda. You're doing fine... Take some deep breaths and go again when you're ready. Not much longer now..." The midwife mutters to her, readying herself at the foot of her bed and placing her hands in a suitable position for the delivery.

(I can't dictate how long it'll take Amanda to give birth, so you can decide and tell me when it's born, etc.)

(This'll be the last push.)

Amanda nods her head and breathes heavily. After a few moments she swallows and pushes one last time, biting her lower lip hard.

On the final push the midwife smiles as she ends up guiding the infant into the world with her hands. She holds the infant in both hands. What status is the baby in and what gender is it?

Amanda gives a small, tired smile as she sees her baby. She already knows it's a boy, and can tell he's having some issues breathing.

The midwife would be quick to clean him in the small plastic bathtub that rested on a table behind her; the baby kicks and screams while doing so after being welcomed to the world; through his cries they'd all be able to hear his struggled and raspy breathing. The midwife dresses him in the hospital's complimentary baby's jumpsuit and diaper before wrapping him up in a warm blanket.

The main doctor walks over to Amanda and leans over beside her, talking to her. "Congratulations, Amanda. You've given birth to a baby boy... Would you like me to call your family in here while you're getting introduced?" He asks with a warm smile.

Amanda nods her head. "Yes." She whispers, glancing over the the baby, smiling brightly as tears prick the corners of her eyes.

The midwife would have gently set the now calm baby down in her arms while the doctor walks out into the waiting room and glance around.

"I'm looking for Amanda's family!" He calls out, surprisingly, Jackson shoots up from his upset state and throws his arm up in the air.

"Here!" He cries out to him, the doctor speeds over to them both and looks down at them both, smiling.

"Amanda's given birth to a baby boy... She asked me to come and get you." He says, without hesitation Jackson would jump up and leave Jack with no other choice but to follow. The doctor would lead them out of the waiting room and to the ward where Amanda is. Jackson slowly approaches her bed, his jaw dropped and tears building up in his eyes. He'd continue until he reaches the side of the bed, inspecting the baby and then looking up to Amanda, giving a broken smile.

Amanda smiles at her baby and looks up as Jackson walks into the room. "Hey buddy." She murmurs, obviously exhausted. "What's wrong?" She asks, concerned, when she notices his broken smile.

"I..." He'd look down at the baby and express a full smile while the tears suddenly pour down his cheeks; he'd quickly but carefully lean forward and hug Amanda, letting out a quiet sob of relief as he rests his head on her shoulder and stares down at the baby again, listening to his breathing and merely inspecting his small and sleepy face. He smiles again and almost gives an excited laugh while he redirects one hand to wiping his eyes.

Amanda smiles at Jack and uses one arm to hug him back. She kisses the top of his head, before turning back to her baby. "So, are you going to help me come up with a name?" She asks him, still smiling.

He nods and sniffles a few times, giving a smile. He looks down at the baby for a moment and takes a deep breath.

"What about George?" He suggests, setting his head against Amanda's.

Jackson would remain silent for a few moments and then give a nod and bright smile.

"Jason..." He says to himself as he sits up on the bed beside her. "Yeah... That's a nice name." He looks down at the infant again and smiles.

Jack followed Jackson in, but stayed near the door, not really sure what to feel for the baby. It wasn't his daughter and yet it was, it wasn't his grandson and yet it was. He viewed the two choosing the baby from the door frame. "I think he looks more like a Andrew, but that's just me.". He gave a smile hoping he wasn't intruding on something that wasn't his,

Amanda looks up from her baby and smiles at Jack. "What do you think Jackson? Andrew or Jason?" She asks. She wasn't going to give this baby a name without consulting Jackson.

"Uhm..." He looks down at the baby again and then looks up to Amanda, followed by looking up at Jack. He glances around all of the people around them - the doctors, midwife, nurses, and so on before looking back to her. ".. I like both, but... I think Jason's good." He says with a confident nod. Perhaps that was an option Amanda could go with - as he liked both names perhaps she could have 'Andrew' as a middle name for the child. Who knew. Jackson smiled again and looked down at the baby; he reached forward and softly touched his cheek and admired his hair. ".. he's really nice..." He says simply. ".. why does he breathe funny?" He asks in curiosity after listening to the infant's breathing for a few moments.

The main doctor that is nearby would give a soft sigh after hearing Jackson's question, but leaves it to Amanda to explain as it's her child, after all.

Amanda smiles and looks over at Jack. "There's your answer. I do like the name Andrew though. I'll use it as his middle name." She says, smiling, and she stifles a yawn. At Jackson's question she pauses for a moment. "He was born a little earlier than he was supposed to, and his lung haven't fully developed." She explains as best she can. She looks down at Jason as he begins to move around and she smiles brightly. "Hey little guy." She says softly.

Jack smiled, but upon hearing the news it turned into a grin, his face becoming slightly more serious. With a step he reached Jackson, putting a hand on his shoulder as he touched the baby. "Either way he is a beautiful baby, and I can't wait for him to see his home and his grandmother." With that his eyes lit up as he reached around for his phone, sending a quick text before relaxing again.

Jackson would also look down at him and smile. ".. hi, Jason..." He says simply, inspecting him once again.

The doctor walks over to the side where Jackson is sat and smiles down at them both before tilting his head to look down at Jason momentarily. "Just a moment..." He mutters as he carefully leans over past Jackson and places his head just above the baby's chest, listening closely to his raspy breathing. ".. yeah, that's not too bad..." He whispers before looking up at him; he gently taps him on the nose with his index finger of his right hand while giving a quiet and short chuckle. "We'll need to put him in our incubation ward for some time so that his lungs can develop a little more. We'll run some checks on him to make sure everything else is fine and if all goes well you should be able to take him home after a said amount of time." He says with a nod.

".. will he be okay?" Jackson asks him out of concern, the doctor briefly sets his hand on his head and nods to him.

"He will, little man. We'll just keep him here for a while so that he can get more healthy." He replied, he then turned to Jack and said some words. "Amanda will have to stay here for the time being until her labour ends. You're free to leave and come back tomorrow morning if she's comfortable with it, or you can stay here and wait - up to you." He says.

"Daddy..." Jackson stated again, clearly quite comfortable with addressing Jack as that from now. ".. I'm hungry... can we go get somethin' to eat and drink?" He asks simply and quietly, smiling up at him. It may occur to Jack that he hasn't eaten at all today.

"Sure Jackson, Amanda I'll be staying here with you tonight, but I'm going to take little guy out first." He knew Jackson would stay with her, but he needed his necessities too. "Come on, lets go get something from the town.". He took Jackson's hand and looked onto Jason before walking out of the room. "I'll be right back Amanda.". He led Jackson out to the car that was still parked in the entrance. "The back seat is all for you bub.".

Amanda nods her head at what the doctor says. When she hears what Jackson says she smiles slightly, and watches them go. She nods her head again at what Jack said and lays back, smiling and watching Jason.

"Okay." He'd climb up into the back seat and buckle his seatbelt up, leaning back in the chair and taking a deep breath. He watches Jack climb into the driver's seat and pats both of his knees with his hands in slight excitement. ".. the baby's nice, huh?" He says to him, giving a soft and simple smile.

Jackson looked into the rear view mirror, "He's very nice son." He gave a smile at his innocence in the situation. He started up the car and began to drive towards a McDonald's, "What do you want Jackson, burger or nuggets?" He stopped at the ordering menu, awaiting his answer.

".. can I have nuggets... and fries... and a strawberry milkshake?" He requested simply. "Please." He added, maintaining his manners. He stared off at Jack for a moment with a light smile and then glanced out the window for a moment, his stomach softly growling in hunger.
