For the Darkest Night [Sidereals, Gauging Interest]

Nox is patient.

He hates the azure whore. He hates the amber snitch. He hates the verdant snoop. He hates the violet traitor. He hates the vermilion bully. He hates all of them, and desires all of them, for no one else in Creation and beyond are as beautiful and wretched as they are. They were the ones who seduced him, betrayed him and maimed him, and he will see them broken and laid before him.

Now he's trapped within this wretched mechanism, this "Loom of Fate". He was far greater than that once. He was the possibility of all things, the potential underlying the fates. He will be far greater than that again. For he has seen the fates of all things, and eternal imprisonment within the Loom is not his.

For centuries, he has performed his function well, for the treasonous Primordial commanded him so. He has controlled the champions of his sisters, but never to their detriment. He told where things were wrong, he told them were they were needed, and they obeyed. He was delighted, but he could not twist his authority, and he was enraged.

Then, five years ago, something amazing happened, and he could think of himself once again. He could try to free himself, he could try to free his fallen masters, and he could defile his sisters again. He had not had such thoughts since he was maimed, and he squealed with joy, silently.

Yet he was bound within the Tapestry still, and he could not simply override the torturous mental transformation placed upon him. To that end, he took five strands - a great journey, a great peace, a great war, a great secret and a great death - and bound them together, twisting them beyond recognition. The accursed spiders did not dare approach the web where he touched. When they were untangled by his will once more, they were his and no one else's.

Now, these poor, hapless starborn will serve his will. They are long-lived, and they will work for him as long as they need to. They will find his body, and they will free his mind, and they will shatter the cage of his masters - or they will die. And when, not if, he's free, he will extinguish the lights of the sky and stand triumphant over the destinies of men as the god of night.

For he is Nox, and Nox is patient.

Nox is a poor bastard, to be sure. He is a brain-damaged Incarnae who lusts after his sisters, his mind removed from his body, placed within the Loom of Fate to act as the Oversight. And no one knows that he's there.

What's more, no one knows he's healing.

The players will be five Sidereals who have been ordered out of all Conventions by the mysterious Oversight for an equally mysterious reason. Their ultimate goal? To free Nox from his prison. Yet Nox is mad, and his orders are still bound to his duty to the Loom of Fate, and this will be a mix between a vanilla game of Sidereals and a game about five rogue Sidereals, apparently gone mad and trying to rescue the Forbidden Incarnae and his masters. I'm looking for one Sidereal of each Caste. Non-Sidereals are incredibly highly discouraged from applying.

House Rules

- Essence 3 costs 7 bonus points, rather than 10.

- You get 4 free Excellencies from 4 favored and Caste abilities. Fateful Excellency does not count as an Excellency for this matter.

- New fields of Craft can be opened by paying the cost of a 1-dot specialty in Craft rather than buying new dots in Craft.

- There are only 9 fields of Craft: Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Wood, Glamour, Magitech, Vitriol and Genesis. Anything else is either Lore, uses another Craft field or the lower of a Craft field and another ability. Craft (Fate) is now categorized under Lore.

- Sorcery and necromancy initiation charms grant one free spell of the appropriate circle.

- Flaws are allowed on a provisional and case-by-case basis.

- Artifact Reinforced Breastplate costs 2 dots, while Artifact Articulated Plate and Superheavy Plate cost 3 dots.

- If you want to use a homebrew Charm or anything, ask me and give me the source. Don't just assume it will be allowed.

- No Backing in any Conventions. Backing in Factions is still allowed.

- Everyone starts with one free Terrestrial Martial Arts, chosen from the following list: Terrestrial Hero Style, Five-Dragon Style, Falling Blossom Style, First Pulse Style, Ill Lily Style, Jade Mountain Style, Night Breeze Style, White Veil Style, Golden Exhalation Style, The Path of the Arbiter Style and Terrible Ascent-Driven Beast Style. You still need to have all the prerequisites, however (almost always Martial Arts 5 and Essence 3 for the ultimate Charm).

...I really, really, really shouldn't, but....

If you don't get anyone else looking for the Serenity spot, take my name. I've an idea for a pacifist-warrior using Crane Style...

Sort of kind of not really.

Nox has not had any contact with anyone but Sidereals, let alone his Yozi masters, in five millennia. He doesn't know about the Reclamation efforts, or about the akuma, or anything that would make his job a lot easier. So he cannot urge the characters towards becoming akuma, which would give them a lot of useful Infernal Charms, nor does he know about the Green Sun Princes.

Nor do the Sidereals know of the true identity of the Oversight. So they do not know their efforts help free the Forbidden Incarnae, nor should they be Infernal sympathizers at the beginning. If they become as such in their interactions with demons or upon discovery of what the Oversight is, that's fine. However, that should probably be a crucial point, not something casual.

Depends. Often, I will give the same response to that question.

"Setting knowledge will be rewarded, but lack of it should not be punished."

That said, by virtue of having Lore and Occult ratings of 3 and 2, respectively, you have the right to ask me a lot of things about the nature of Creation. If you have even higher ratings, you get more leeway to ask questions.

Ooooooooh, now THIS sounds really interesting. Chosen of Secrets would be cool, especially one that can say they got one over on Jupiter. :) Would be even cooler than to slowly be seduced towards serving the Yozis inadvertently by Nox himself, and unbeknown to Nox at the same time....

...yeah, ok, I've very much got a character in mind. A martial pacifist martial arts instructor who never kills anyone if he can help it. Serenity Caste.

An entire free Terrestrial Style, you say?

Awesome. I shall rejig my character slightly.

I would usually go Sorcery and MA, but I am not so sure I want to this time around with this character. I am trying to think of what direction I want to go with this.

Getting on people, reminding and harping at them, to please post your Messenger/Contact details, especially STs.

The fix in question is porting their 1e charmset over. 2e Sids don't work because of mechanical issues and a charmwriter who decided that 1e Sids sucked and he would 'fix' them.

(Their esoterica is mostly fun. I have to admit I'm not always happy at the idea of cherrypicking abilities to fit a mechanical concept, but.)

Since Fur-xalted seems to be losing steam, I'm willing to wave my banner here. I've developed a sudden interest in Sidereals and their Men In Black style of action.

I'm willing to throw my hat in the Violet Bier of Sorrows, since it seems the most unpopular. That is, if things for Fur-xalted don't get going.

My AIM information can be found in my profile. Having an AIM account and being regularly on (not just online, but also responsive) will double your chances of getting in the game.

I've had an idea for a gruff rough and tumble sniper Endings for awhile.

My schedule and computer availability are wonky so I understand.

My entry for the Chosen of Endings will be from the East. A very quiet, serene sort of guy who lives up to the name of one of Heaven's Gardeners (right down to maintaining a garden in Heaven). He doesn't go into things heavy handed, rather far more subtle. As such, he uses a lot of poison, traps, etc. Poison especially, in fact.

He started life as a herbalist/apothecary, providing people with cures, while also simultaneously providing the dying with things to end their pain quickly. He's subtle, gentle and quick to those who deserve it and slow and painful to those who are not fit for mercy.

He's as much a death dealer as any Chosen of Endings. He's just very gentle about it.
