Fire emblem fates Birthright

Graphics are gorgeous from what I've seen, sadly I'm broke, dying to try it out though. ^^; FE:A was lovely, so I expect nothing less here!

Oh, me too! So jealous. Have you gotten revelations yet? (The additional content, i think that's what it's called). If it's worth it let me know? I'm iffy on the extra $20.

Did you get Conquest or Rebirth?

Haha, alrighty then, I'm definitely going to get it then. For the memorable characters if nothing else!

Yess! I also love being able to create your character and their fate at the beginning! Makes me pretty happy!! Was able to dress the character, name, color the features and give them their personality and voice type!!

Oh, really? So do I! I love customization so much, getting to change the clothes is awesome compared to before.

Definitely!! Birthright has to be one of my favorites

/played all the FE games. FE's my childhood whereas KH/FF/Pokemon are others'.

General opinions on the newest three~

I greatly approve of the changes they made to class changing and levelling. Newer players may have found themselves grumbling a bit but damn I enjoy the extra challenge of knowing which units to put your resources into. Birthright made that somewhat null, but there was still the RNG aspect where you could get absolute shit stats and can't do anything about it.

In terms of the three games, I actually found Birthright the worst of three. Lackluster storytelling, rather bland characters, and maybe a bit of bias because I personally found it too easy. I'm definitely Nohrian scum! LOL Revelations beats both in terms of storytelling, but I loved the challenge presented in Conquest. It felt a lot more like the FE I grew up with, which gave me an additional nostalgia blast as I played through it. In terms of overall enjoyment, Conquest all the way. Their cast is love <3 I may love Ryoma more than Xander, but my heart still goes to my adoptive family ; w ;

I wish I'd gotten a shot at the older FE games just like I wish I had for FF. Only played the recent but your response makes me really want to try the others. Pokemon, however, was indeed my childhood, got into the beauty of KH a tad late, but I've been in love for years!

I think I'll definitely be getting Conquest, then. Considering the last two games I got were very boring story wise I'd had to be disappointed a third time. ^^; Thanks for sharing! Helped my decision as well.

@tinkerbell

I've tried picking up all three, they just didn't appeal to me. @ v @ ;; I'm familiar with the stories and mechanics of most of them though. I might pick up the newest FF though just because HOLY SHIT THOSE GRAPHICS. Gameplay is fucking cutscene level.

Haha, I recommend it if you've found yourself craving more FE. Definitely play Rekka no Ken (Eliwood and Lyndis' game) for starters. The difficulty curve is just right and is honestly the best introduction to the older games in the series. It was my go-to recommended introduction to FE before Awakening came along. c:

I might just be biased regarding Birthright, as the story for it is extremely similar to the older FE games. I would say more but that's a spoiler, haha. In comparison to other games not within the FE realm, I'd rate it as somewhat average? Not the best but it's definitely not the worst. It does its job well enough, but it's definitely lacking in comparison to say... Awakening. o:

Right? Absolutely breath taking. Square Enix never ceases to amaze. I purchased one, of course it was farther into the series than I'd realized and the disc decided it wasn't going to work, so I've not had the best luck. But like you said, so worth it, I'm a sucker for smooth cinematic moments. Super immersive.

Thank you for the advise! I'll make a mental note of that for when I'm not broke!

I'll take your word for it, considering you have far to compare it to. Regardless of history I'd probably be aware of the lack luster too!

I am close to the end of Birthright. I can't wait to try Conquest some day though! Leo is such a cutey.

But as far as Birthright goes, already got my hubby, Kaden.

I've played all three. While I enjoy all the until on Revelations, and the lack of guilt in Birthright. Welp. Conquest just had the best narrative personally.

I played conquest and Revelations. Out of both I chose...Awakening. It's child system actually made sense. No matter what class you were. All weapon types could go to A. And even if they brought back the S weapon rank from the gba games and I'll admit fef used it better still no matter what class you were every weapon could go to S. Plus, every character besides the nobles are just Copies of awakening characters. Odin totally not owain. And don't even get me started on rajhat. But besides my rambling I still bought it and I still played it anyways and I had fun with it. I'm just a pesky little knat gnawing away at a game which outsold the game before it in a week. Bzz bzzzz

FE Fates was pretty fun though I do like some of the previous games more, mainly Rekka no Ken and Radiant Dawn(which had a horrible support system... though I heard the Japanese version had much more but got cut out in the English version). Conquest had the best story/gameplay in my opinion(Have Conquest/Revelations and borrowed Birthright from friend). That's more or less because I like the idea of 'no grinding', but that's mostly since it amps up the difficulty a lot. Conquest enemies are actually naturally stronger too I believe. It's especially noticeable at the end-game. The the new systems for weapons with 'stronger' weapons being unwieldy wasn't that good. Especially those S ranked ones though Silver weapons were really meh to in my opinion since it only made the system gimmicky. Certain units/classes/situations gave those weapons a niche but normally, it wasn't all that good.

It was strange that they mashed all the magic into one. That very act seemed to have nerfed them pretty badly(though Awakening didn't do much better with balance since Thunder tomes early/mid-game were best. Afterwards, Nosferatu was pretty much... no). I liked the entire Fire > Wind > Thunder > Fire system with Anima > Light > Dark > Anima over it from Radiant Dawn. They should've done that again along with height advantages. I do kind of miss those awesome robes/cloak mage classes use to have. The fluttering clothing and all. Magic user's critical animation was really weird though. The entire power floating/vibrating... oh well.

The two nations having separate classes was a pretty unique idea. Don't have much to say on it though. Interesting that Nohr has most of the original classes though. The Capture system was something I always wanted too. They're not all that viable though since their stats/stat increases are low. Aside from that, I'm glad they fixed the broken pairing system. Oh, and WHY CAN WE SHOOT THROUGH SOLID WALLS? I guess I can kind of forgive that. AND WHY CAN PAIRED UP MELEERS ATTACK THROUGH SOLID WALLS? WHYYYY? xD

If I had to say the game's ranking compared to the others... I guess this would be it.

1: Rekka no Ken(I just liked the story and gameplay a lot. A shame that the Tactician and Lyndis' involvement dwindled in Eliwood/Hector's parts though they didn't have much of an impact in the first place.)

2: Radiant Dawn(Gameplay was the best in my opinion, but the story/character development was hit pretty badly with nothings. The support quality and quantity was pretty meager. Micaiah's character development got mashed by Ike's appearance not to mention her... odd decisions. Oh well, Ike is Ike. And all third promotions are awesome. Trueblades especially.)

3/4: Sacred Stones/Conquest(I have nightmares on Hard mode Chapter 10. Oh god... no... the unending waves of enemy reinforcements.)

5: Revelations

6: Awakening(A bit too broken with pair ups and Nosferatu. I guess that's 'technically' fixed in Lunatic+ mode, but that mode is stupid in general. It's really beginner friendly though which is good I guess. Others love it though, usually making number one on their list.)

7: Birthright(Fite me. I thought the story was the weakest though Conquest's entire 'magic gem showing Garon's true form blowing up fantastically was pretty bad too.)

Haven't Played: Shadow Dragon, Path of Radiance, Japanese only games

That isn't to say Revelations/Birthright/Awakening are horrible games, but I just don't like them as much as the rest. They're all fun, and you should play them all.

Did someone say...Fire Emblem!?

I've only played Awakening and Fates, but I very much love them all! Writing for FE is very much one of my favorite things to do! The characters are very lovable to me. Admittedly, I'm more picky towards characters than I am towards plot. While I liked Conquest's characters more, I did like Birthright's plot better? If I had to chose either Conquest or Birthright, I'd chose Conquest because more of the characters there are to my tastes. However, I don't like the child system.

I would have rather had more information on the world's lore. And more supports for more characters, especially characters like Izana, Ashura, etc, because they can only support with Kamui. This isn't to say that I don't like the child characters, because I very much love them. I also would have preferred more depth in certain characters, like Pieri, who seemed to be one of the more one-dimensional characters. I could be wrong with that, because I haven't seen all of her supports yet. I feel like some effort was focused in the wrong places in Fates? Which is why I'm going to say I liked Awakening's base plot better. But Fates still has found a very special place in my heart. Despite its flaws, I can still say that I love it very much.

I recently got conquest aha! When it came down to it, the characters design spoke to me more in Conquest xD and I am right thus far, although I already died at chapter 5 ;-; ugh I suck, wah. I really can't wait to play more of it because the story is fairly decent, there were some aspects that I already saw coming, and I've made more assumptions but I like it nonetheless. Since this is my first time playing FE, I can't judge on the gameplay but the gameplay doesn't bother me at all. I like it, I feel like it's very unique to FE compared to some of the other games that are out there. Although, I probably should have spent more time making sure that my character was better made, I'm wondering if that's going to bite me in the butt in the long run, considering all that could go wrong, aha. But nonetheless I'm very excited to go through and play it and finally experience Fire Emblem. Probably should've gone with Awakening first, as a few people have told me, but oh whale, I saw conquest and I figured why not just jump in with both feet. But go Nohr ;-; I'm assuming things are gonna be okay in the end and they won't always be the bad guys... but perhaps I am too optimistic.

I don't have Fire Emblem Fates, but its next on my "Games i have to get" list, You will never guess which version though. :P .

Ahhh.. I still play the old GBA Fire Emblem games! Can't wait to try the latest one though, because Awakening was amazing!

Man I love these games but holy heck am I getting my butt handed to me. I beat blazing sword back in the day but conquest is kicking my butt, rather than pull my haqir out over it I broke down and bought the DLC that lets you grind, figure my first playthrough will be for experimenting with units and stuff and then I can take a stab at a not for babbies run through when I know how to optimise properly.

I'm not enjoying the support convos as much as I did in awakening though, they just seem a bit... flat? Especially a lot of the parent/child ones
