Fire emblem fates Birthright

I have played through both Birthright and Conquest, about to start Revelations. I had started my FE campaign back with Eliwood, Lyn, and Hector. GREAT GAMES. Kind of skipped over a few, as I didn't have a Gamecube at the time, but the games I have played have been excellent!

All I can really say about this game, aside from the glorious graphics and (admittedly different) combat system, is: MY HEART, MAN. MY HEART. IT BREAKS.

(I have an unhealthy love of FE:A and FE: B/C/R)

What was wrong with awakening?

Nothing wrong with Awakening. More B/C/R. They changed up the combat system. Now they didn't do much, but I loved it in the old games when I could see the actual stats and compare on the battle screen. (I can't remember if they did do that in awakening or not actually. I don't think they did though.) In short: I'm an old fart and got confused at first by B/C/R's new battle system display.

Plus now there are like. 15 different types of weapons. Each with their own weapon triangle. It was hard to follow. And after I even beat the game I still couldn't tell the difference :/

Back when it was first announced, Fates got so much flak for the new game mechanics. I waited until I got my hands on the game to pass judgment, and I really enjoy Fates' combat compared to Awakening. The Stances and signature skills added yet another factor into how to manage my team.

I'm still working on Birthright before I do Conquest (which the version I bought) and Revelations. Thank goodness for being able to download all three routes.

The only small problem I had with Fire Emblem Fates was the lack of scouting in Conquest. The second game was already harder than Birthright thanks to a low amount of gold recieved between each battle, so I wish they had given players the opportunity to grind their weaker characters up to a higher level.

I also missed the weapon durability rating, but for a game like Conquest, especially if you're playing it on classic mode on hard difficulty (like I have), having to replace items every few battles would be a little too much to deal with.

On the other hand, the ability to capture enemy units, send them to prison and then recruit them was one of my favorite features in the game. I hope to see a mechanic like that in future Fire Emblem games as well.

Hi all! I'm fairly new here, but I'd love to contribute to the conversation!

I've been a Fire Emblem fan since around 2005 when Path of Radiance came out on Gamecube. I saw it on the shelves of Best Buy and thought, "Eh, why not?" I grabbed it, went home, played it, and was hooked ever since.

In terms of what I think of Fates?

I think the Japanese version is gorgeous. The English version leaves a bit to be desired, what with censorship and all. I mean was it really necessary to take out the petting mini game? What harm is there in letting kids see, using a stylus and screen, the illusion of rubbing the cheek or face of someone you love when you're bonding or marrying them? Really? What harm was there in leaving that alone?

... I digress.

Overall I think the English version of the game is still fantastic. I just wish they didn't censor it. There was no need. But the gameplay is smooth, the battle sequences are superb, and the supports are just adorable!! Seriously! Some of them are just do die for!!

That, and as a wannabe composer and musician, the full English of Azura's song sung by Rena Strober just gets me every time. The arrangement and music are beyond amazing, and her voice? Oh... If it were possible to fall in love with someone on their voice alone then Strober had me at "You," the first word of the piece.

I love the music of the game so much! I can't describe why or I'd be here all day. But you get the idea. Big music nerd. Lol.

But yes, Fates is one of my all time favorites. However, the one thing which bogs it down for me is the grinding for stats and levels. In order to move forward smoothly without losing anyone on Classic Mode, there is a bit of grinding to be had in Birthright. But still, that aside I still love it. The grind becomes worth it and then some when your characters are actually strong enough to survive and push the story forward at a decent pace when the grind is over.
