Futuristic Fear the Night: Planet Nox

Jenson 'Niner' Dewitt

Jenson laughed lightly as he continued through the caves, swerving around a stalacmite before scanning his light across the large networks of pitch black caves and rock formations which cast eery flickering shadows around the cave. He stopped tensing slightly at the partially peaceful image until his flashlight rested on a shifting figure of a banshee. Just what he needed. He instantly lowered his rifle and placed a hand partially over it as he backed up and rose an arm across Daisha's chest as he stepped back.

"Banshee, 1... Probably more nearby." He hissed.

He watched quietly as the half reptilian half dragon creature scurried around and in between the stalactites before it came to a stop curled in a defensive stance with it's tail and wings wrapped around the length of a stalactite. The alien creature stared down at the two intruders and let out a gurgling noise which began to grow into a shriek.

"Sorry about this." Jenson said to Daisha.

He quickly rose his rifle and shone the light at it before releasing a burst of shots into the banshee which wriggled and writhed in a hope to get away. With luck, a few of Jenson's bullets hit the banshee and dislodged it from it's position around the stalactites, sending it tumbling to the floor where Jenson quickly jogged over to it and placed a firm foot on it's undamaged wing. He then turned to Daisha.

"Okay, before you put your boot up my ass, despite the fact that they're not really boots, it was calling to it's little friends so..." He shrugged weakly.

Daisha hurried over as fast as she could, thinking of ways it could have gone if this Banshee was able to screech. "Hmm, well Banshees do run in groups of three to five, from what I'v seen, so silencing one could have prevented some killings of either us or the Banshees. Nice job" She nodded to Jenson and crouched down by the Banshee that struggled to dislodge its wing from under Jenson's boot. "Also, if I were to shove by boot or what have you up your ass it wont be in the pitch black darkness. I dont want to kick a wall. Plus your the only source of light and ammo" She added with a small laugh. She pulled some rope from her side and tied the Banshee's mouth shut. "Good thing they have holes to breathe through on their neck." She said.

Jenson 'Niner' Dewitt

Jenson calmed once Daisha congratulated him instead of yelling before nodding and watching as Daisha tied the creature's mouth shut with regular rope. He sighed as he drew out a grenade and held it close to it's neck, setting it to crowd as he released the gases but covered the spark. Soon the beast stopped struggling and fell unconcious, Jenson slipping the now empty grenade into his pocket before smirking and looking at Daisha.

"Thermite, may not be the safest material but it can stand in for chloroform."

"Sweet! You just have all the neat tricks up your sleeve" She said, now that it was asleep she untied its mouth. "May need the rope for later" She said to herself, petting its head. "They are so cute" She added, smiling under her mask. "Wait, if we found one then more is going to be nearby. I have to think" She sat down, 'hmm'ing to herself for a minute or two then began speaking again. "These creatures are social, each little group is like a different pack. If one strays, like this one, there has to be a reason. A Banshee shed its skin not far from here, meaning a growing Banshee. Its not this one, or its plating would be a lot softer. Its a guard, coming back to protect something... At least from what I believe. For all I know it a rouge, but like wolves a lone wolf does not survive for long. The idea that makes sense right now is either a stash of food or a nest of eggs" She said, looking up at Jenson. "A juvenile always sticks by the nest until their fifth molt, in which they hunt with the pack or die trying."

Jenson 'Niner' Dewitt

Jenson watched as Daisha removed the make shift muzzel from the beast before twisting his face as she made a comment about their 'cuteness'. He sighed at how strange the woman was before watching as she plopped herself on the ground and began to hum to herself before explaining the whole reason this one was out here. He nodded as he understood what was being said before looking down at the creature.

"So, for all we know we could be next to a nest of sorts ?" He shuddered at the thought.

He eventually removed his foot from the creature and bent down, lifting it's other wing up as he inspected two neat little bullet holes in the thin flesh. He sighed before searching the rest of the creature and noticing a black substance dripping from it's tail. Acid. He instinctively backed away from the creature before looking at Daisha once more.

"By the way, this one won't be flying for some time."

"Banshees use their wings mostly for gliding, rarely for flying. The skin will heat over time" She said, beginning to get up. Daisha was so excited about being near a Banshee nest she didnt look where she put her hand to push herself up and pulled back quickly as she put her hand in the acid. "Ow, fucking hell son of a bitch!" She snarled, shaking her hand. She stood up, "Ugh, tripping now this." She sighed, shaking her head. She checked her suit for the medicine to put on burns like this, when she didnt find it in its usual place she began to panic. "Did I misplace it?" She asked herself. "I know soldiers arent required to carry stuff like medicine and all that but is there a chance you may have some?" She asked Jenson.

Jenson 'Niner' Dewitt

Jenson nodded as he absorbed that information before watching as Daisha winced and stared at her hand. He stared at it for a few seconds before looking up at her as she asked for the antidote. Of course he didn't have any. He shook his head grimly before standing and flashing his light across the area to see if anything was there. Seeing nothing, he grinned slightly before looking down at Daisha and offering her his hand.

"C'mon... Can you make it to the sheddings or will we havve to go back and get the treatment."

His words were cut short as a small com crackle in his ear, HQ must have been watching. He paused before placing his free hand to the ear of his helmet which he tapped to activate the com. He stared down at Daisha as he listened to his orders before sighing.

"HQ says to bring the Banshee back to base."

Garrett was looking over data on the holographic screen in his lab. It was information pertaining to the Bellators. Fascinating indeed. Of course, the data was just his compiled speculations about the mysterious species. He was currently reviewing his theories on the possibility of the Bellators possessing a natural exoskeleton rather than simply wearing armor.

Now and then he would mumble his thoughts out loud, a habit for which he often got weird looks in public.

Daisha shook her burnt hand again, "We came here to do a job, we sure as hell are going to finish it. It'll be fine" She said, looking around as he shined the light around the cave. Upon seeing nothing, she looked back to see his outstretched hand. "Cant wait to see whats in store!" She smiled, using her good hand and taking his hand.

@The Jackal

Fred was chilling out, sitting where he was left. He was leaned back against a structure with his hands behind his head and eyes closed. He thought he had heard something and sat up, seeing the scientist walking and muttering to himself. "Hey doc, watcha lookin at?" He asked.

Garrett was startled by the sudden voice. He turned around. Then turned to the screen, then back to the soldier. "Oh, this? I'm just looking over some theories I've come up with regarding the Bellators."

Garrett was kind of taken aback because people rarely took the time to ask about his scientific theories.

"Anything to help us learn how to kill them faster?" Fred asked. If Daisha was there to hear that, she would force his words back down his throat. "Those bastards are tough, and very annoying"

"I believe their toughness is due to their possessing thick, sturdy, yet flexible exoskeletons. This allows them to be agile and durable, which is one of the reasons they're as deadly as they are." Garrett pulled up a diagram of a male Bellator, in a style akin to da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man".

"Well damn son, you got all this figured out" He said. "You and tree hugger would have a hayday discussing that sort of thing. I have a question though, these guys are freakin huge. The two genders look nothing alike, what the fuck?"

"Well, sir, it's not uncommon for separate genders too have differences in appearance. This is called 'sexual dimorphism'. We humans exhibit: Men are usually taller than women, and we grow facial hair. Basically, the Bellators seem to exhibit a more advanced form of sexual dimorphism, to the point where females and males look like completely separate species." Dr. Salazar pushed his glasses a little further up the bridge of his nose after finishing his explanation.

"Being taller and growing facial hair aint the only difference between men and woman. I mean, you got the basics. Woman have the whole boobs thing going on, us guys obviously dont have those. But it doesnt really make sense, if they look like complete different things then how in the hell do they get attracted to each other? If a woman looked like a dog or something there aint no way I'd be willing to take her to my place." Fred said.

Garrett laughed a little. "That's a good question. Sadly, I haven't quite thought of anything regarding their mating behaviors. I'll have to get back to you on that."

"You know, actually I really dont want to know how these things work. I dont need a alien sex ed class, how's about I just stick to shooting the fuckers and you can find out about their sex lives. Scientists be scientists, findout out things for science and all that right? I dont think soe of the things ya'll learn is worth it" He said with a small laugh. "But hey man, you do you"

Jenson 'Niner' Dewitt

Jenson sighed and shrugged, rolling his eyes under his mask as he helped Daisha up and looked down at the Intruder. He perked up slightly as he bent down and took hold of the very end of it's tail that wasn't bleeding, standing as he began to drag it along. As he dragged he turned to look at Daisha, unfastening his flashlight from his gun and handing it to her.

"Keep an eye on our rear... Oh, and tie up it's mouth before it wakes up."

He continued to drag for the following hours before looking behind them into the darkness that had a small beam of light keeping it illuminated in small patches. He then looked at Daisha and continued to drag the creature with one hand.

Daisha did as she was told, tying its mouth and keeping watch for any other Banshees. She was rather impressed with Jenson, Banshees weighed a lot and he was dragging the thing with one hand like it was nothing. "Your so much stronger than Fred, Jenson. Its quite impressive, to say at the least" She commented.

Jenson 'Niner' Dewitt

Jenson glanced over his shoulder at Daisha as he watched her slow progress of tying the beaked beast's mouth shut. He turned and made his way back to the cave while giving the beast a little extra tug to get it over a downwards slope before spotting the lights of the blast doors up ahead. He grinned at Daisha's comment before looking over his shoulder at her.

"Thanks... But they're not that heavy."

"Actually, these things can weigh up to 300-800 lbs depending on their size" She said. She moved ahead to type in the code on the number pad to open the doors. Once selecting the right code the doors opened. She depressurized her helmet and took it off, shaking her head to shake her hair out. "That was fun!"

Jenson 'Niner' Dewitt

Jenson nodded as he continued to drag it through the camp with his helmet on, looking around for the officer who would most likely tell him where to go. He was soon greeted by just that, a tall man with a goatee and jet black hair. Jenson lifted the creature a little in view of the officer who glanced down at it and removed his glasses just in case before nodding to Jenson and pointing to the holding labs.

"Leave it there, we'll have scientists waiting to research it." The man instructed.

Jenson nodded and continued to drag the beast past Daisha and into the lab where he placed it one of the tubes before looking at the scientists who crowded around in fascination. Jenson rolled his eyes and exited the lab before removing his helmet and looking at Daisha, grinning as he looked around for Fred.

"Well, despite the fact that you got burnt on the hand, you should go get some antidote for that, it was quite enjoyable."

Daisha scoffed at the scientists crowding around the Banshee. "Amateurs" She muttered, before looking back to Jenson and smiled. "A little burn wasnt going to stop me. Too bad we didnt get to find what we were looking for" She said. She stepped forward, hugging Jenson. She was a very open person, obviously. "Thanks for taking me down there man, Fred kept telling me he would take me later and never does" She said, stepping back and looked back up at Jenson. "He's such a little prick" She laughed. She looked back to where the Banshee was and sighed in irritation, "Hey! Dont do that! Its plating- Ugh!" She snapped at them, turning to look at Jenson with an apologetic smile. "Sorry but I gotta jet. See ya 'round" She said, jogging over to the crowd of scientists.

Jenson 'Niner' Dewitt

Jenson watched as the scientists all crowded around the caged in container like a bunch of seagulls spotting some chips on the beach. He looked down at Daisha as she stared at the scientists before looking across at the scientists again. He simply kept his regular blank face when Daisha came forward and hugged him for a few seconds before she stepped back.

"Yeah, don't forget man child." He grinned.

He glanced at the group of scientists as they prodded childishly at the still unconscious creature, nodding as Daisha explained her need of absence.
