When Alex pulled away, she met his gaze with her own glistening eyes as he desperately asked if he should have gone to the hospital. He fretted about getting in the way and worried about causing more issues. "Alex, no matter what you and Harper have said to each other, you'd never be in the way. Despite everything, I know you two care about each other. You Kings are so close and supportive of each other that it would take a hell of a lot for any of them to want you to stay away." When he eventually said he thought Harper would be okay, Kerry nodded in agreement, wanting to fill both of them with hope and optimism.
Kerry felt Alex's hold on her tighten as he began blaming himself for what was happening with Harper and what had happened to his mother. "Alex, you can't sit here blaming yourself. Of course a big brother would want to protect his sister, but you can't always be there. There's only so much you can do to protect her before it becomes suffocating to her. You lads have done more than many siblings would do and you certainly haven't failed her. You can't change what's happened and put yourself in a different place, but we can choose how we act now. As for your mother, you were just a child, Alex. That was never something you should have been through and it wasn't on you to protect her, nor was it on Spencer," she reassured him. Regardless of whether Harper had come to accept her father, Kerry was under no illusion about Trevor. She'd heard enough about him over the years to know the blame for Laura's death should fall on his shoulders before any of it could land on the King siblings.
Kerry carefully shook her head when Alex apologised to her, their foreheads still pressing against each other. When he said they could go to the hospital to see Harper, she pulled away so he could see her as she nodded. "Yes, let's go see her," she agreed with him. When he returned her words by saying he loved her, she met his lips to softly kiss him. Slowly pulling away, she took his hands in hers and helped encourage him up onto his feet. "Come on, Alex. Let's go to the hospital," she told him. "There'll be time to clean this place up before she comes home. For now, you need to be with Harper and the others."
