Billy King
Billy gave a teasing giggle at his cousin’s evident exasperation. Hers wasn’t the only briefcase resting against the bar, but he knew only the truly dedicated came straight to the pub after work. None of this, ‘going home to get changed first’ business. Once he had passed her a well-needed pint, he leaned his elbows on the counter and pouted at her. “Do you wanna tell old Billy about your problems? Turn him into a proper barman cliché?” With a smile, he gave her a friendly pat on the cheek. “You know I have all the time in the world for you, cuz’,” he said, then he clinked his glass against hers and took a long, steady drink.
Nolan’s order put a spark in Billy’s eye and, after pouring him a pint, he turned to face the array of whiskey bottles. Since the man hadn’t been specific, Billy naturally opted for the best. Instead of just one shot glass, however, he lay out several in a row and filled them all to the brim. He grinned at Nolan’s open offer of babysitting his young daughter. “Hey, hey, what you laughin’ for? I’m great with kids. I’d be Charlie’s best mate by the time you get home, she’d forget all about you!” Billy had never much thought about having children himself, but since he was very in touch with his own childish side, he did love being in their company. Out of tact for his brother Alex, he didn’t go on about how much he missed Callum, but ever since Savannah had left and taken the boy with her, Billy had missed his nephew greatly. Despite all the teasing, he really wouldn’t have minded if Nolan asked him to babysit for Charlie.
Nolan pulled him out of his thoughts with a friendly question of how he was doing. “Me? Oh, always, mate, always. And it’s only about to get better!” He was really referring to the shots, but as he passed a whiskey each to Madison and Nolan, his eye caught Erik Snowden walking over to the bar and his whole face lit up. His beaming smile turned to muffled laughter when Erik reached across the bar and placed his hands over his face. “Security!” he called out, though the playfulness of his tone would indicate that there was no serious trouble. “Sit down, you numpty,” he commanded, pushing his friend away. “Well, Erik Snowden, maybe if you came out more than once in a while, you’d see I am actually a pretty fun guy.” It was true that Billy was very attached to his work, and part of that was from getting to work alongside Erik. When Moretti sent one of his employees to work in London with the Kings, Billy never expected to find a friend in him, but the pair got on well together - maybe a few loud arguments here and there, but overall enough laughter and productivity to counteract it. “Now stop actin' like a twat and get this down you." He slammed a shot of whiskey in front of Erik. "Nole's idea - now if any of us end up arrested by the end of the night we can just blame him!" Directing a wink at Nolan, Billy necked his shot of whiskey and slammed it back down on the counter.
