History of Grachion

Since the dawn of time, gods roamed the mortal world. They lived above and among human, superior in all possible ways. They fed off the human's faith, drank in their fear, swallowed their defiance. The gods lived like parasites, inhibiting the void between the worlds, hiding their nature and bending our reality. Until a traveler came, cutting through the kingdom of the immortals to reach our realm, and came with him...

Terms:

  • All of the students are called Altorus (singular and plural) while attending the Academy
  • The teachers are called "Mentor + name" eg. Mentor Rufus Scipio

Academy's System

Master Tavis Rogar is the head of the Academy, running the day-to-day buninesses.

A Council of 5 represents the crown, advicing the Master and taking part in making important decisions.

The Altorian Codex is a huge underground carvern beneath the Academy. It stores all the Items of Power that didn't have a wielder. Only Master Rogar, Mentor Rufus Scipio and the Council members have access.

Osilus jolted awake screaming at the top of his lungs. He clawed wildly at the blanket covering him in pure terror and disorientation, until he got out from under it and fell face first onto the cold hard stone floor. His scream was cut off abruptly as he hit with a thump, knocking the breath out of him. For the next few minutes, all he could do was laying there trying to catch his breath. His shirt was soaked in sweat and his body was fever hot even though the window was opened, letting in the cool night breeze. The room was a mess, papers and clothes discarded accross every possible surface, books were stacked into piles in the corners.

Osilus sat up painfully and rested his back on the wall, absentmindedly stroking his cat, Feral, while staring at his hand. The golden ring on his right index finger were glowing like hot amber, casting deep shadows accross the room. It only did that when it was activated to summon minor gods and bound them to his will. Which meant... . Osilus shuddered violently, and it wasn't from the cold air which had started to soak into his bones through the wet clothing. He could still remember the dream vividly, all the horror, all the fear. He was trapped inside an incomprehensible vastness, lost among the nothingness of the void. And beings a million times larger, a billion times greater than him raged behind a slowly caving in bars of their cage.

The gods were coming back.

Amara cowered in the darkest corner of the room, pulling her legs as close as possible. She was weeping silently, her body shook with every breath. Tira, her Item, was on the floor in front of her feet, vibrating softly of its own accord. "It's not real, it's not real, it's not real,..." She whispered to herself over and over and over again, words distoreted by the trembling voice, her arms covering her heads while she burried her face on her lap. But no matter how much she said it, no matter how much she wished it to go away, she could never shake off the terror in her heart and the feeling of being watched. She knew that no one was there with her in her room, no one was looking at her, but the feeling only grew stronger the more she tried to deny it. It was like that day again, the day she climbed the wall all those years ago, the day it set eyes on her.

Amara kept trying to remind herself that the Academy is the safest place in all of Kelaron. That the building she was in had layers upon layers of Altorian aura that can propel anything that comes out of the Void. That it couldn't be what she thought it was, because the gods are all gone from this world. It did not help her one bit. The truth was in plain sight, only that Amara refused to acknowledge it.

The gods were coming back.

"What is that supposed to mean? And how is that so important that you have to disturb me in the middle of the night." Master Tavis Rogar scowled fiercely, irritation clear on his feature.

"Don't you see what I am trying to say?" Mentor Rufus Scipio said frustratedly. "All the Items in the Codex had some sort of reaction or another! All over 300 of them! At the same time! It either means that there's a terribly powerful Item near by, and I mean as powerful as Altor's personal Items, or.."

"Or the Parasites are lurking again." Master Rogar finished the sentence quietly. The air caught in his throat at the meer suggestion. The silence that followed was tense and uncomfortable.

"I've checked the Globe. There's no such Item a hundred miles around the Academy." Mentor Scipio spoke just as quietly.

"How sure are you, Scipio?"

"As sure as I can possibly be, Tavis." The Mentor met the Master's eyes. "What do we do?"

Rogar started thinking furiously: "Have you spoken to anyone about this yet?"

"No, no, I came straight to you. The reaction happened only an hour ago." Scipio answered hurriedly as Rogar paced back and forth.

"Good. Do not let the Council hear of this. Those damn politicians will make this a public knowledge and the last thing we need right now is mass panic among the Altorus. Tomorrow is the beginning of a new Academic year. Let's keep this a secret until we figure out how to deal with it. Send some of your pages to the Parchment Room and search the Restricted area for more information."

"Will do, Tavis."

Rogar stopped pacing and looked at Scipio: "How about the preparation for tomorrow?"

"Words already passed. All Altorus and Mentors are to present at the Arena by 8.00."

"Good. Good." Master Rogar sighed. "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to finish that speech for tomorrow, which you interupted me from."

Hana had gotten up bright and early this morning. 1: because she wanted to take a shower and such without a bunch of girls and a line. 2: She wanted to see her brother. 3: she wanted to see her brother because they were never parted like this. Just because of the stupid rules, she couldnt room with her little brother. Standing in her room, she put on her clothes and took care of her hair before leaving her room and heading to her brother's dorm which was in the male dorms. Her gear hung from her thighs as she walked down the hall.

Aelia was staring at the mirror in her dorm.

"Mmhm. Sexy." She commented, flexing and wiggling around. Aelia grabbed her sword and slung it on her back. "Ooh now I'm deadly! Bwahah!"

She laughed and kicked her door open, nearly slamming into a girl walking down the hall.

"Ah! Sorry Hana! You are Hana right? My name's Aelia. Aelia Vahlour. You can call me Aelia. Wanna be friends? Friends are good. What do ya say? Friends?" She said, patting Hana on the back, laughing.

Andrew was up early, looking outside his window. He didn't sleep well. Andrew wouldn't admit it, but he slept easier if he knew his sister was nearby. When he was younger, he'd sleep in the same bed as his sister, but as they got older, he figured it was deemed inappropriate. That made him sad and irritated.

He left the room and wandered down the hall. Andrew was utterly lost without his sister. Literally. He was actually lost. He had no idea where he was.

Hana instantly ran into a girl in the hall. She backed off a bit, watching as the girl rambled on about Hana's name, then went onto being friends and patting her back. Hana spoke "We can if you want." she said before continuing her way down the hall and out the door. I'm coming Andrew, dont do anything stupid. Knowing her brother, he always either hurt himself by falling, or just getting lost. She sighed softly, approaching the door and sliding inside.

It looked a bit different but the girl's dorm. But Hana didnt care. All she cared about was finding her brother. Thats when she began her quest on finding her brother.

"Where you going? On a quest? Ooh the boys dorm? Got a lover huh if ya know what I mean." Aelia rambled on, following her. She noticed that Hana didn't respond.

"I talk too much. I get it. We should be friends though. Oh we can be friends? Good! I can help you find your lover. Is he hot? Or is it a girl. To each his own as they say if you get my drift."

Hana looked at Aelia, listening to her talk on and on. Personally, Hana didnt really care if she was talking a bunch. She felt less alone "He isnt my lover. He's my brother." she simply said before looking ahead "I dont seek for a lover right now. That is not my first priority. My first Priority is my little brother." Finding someone to love really wasnt all that important to her. The only person left that was important was her brother. No one else could ever take his place.

"Ohhh! A little brother. Boy was I off the mark. I get it. How cute. Is he? I mean cute. If you get my meaning. Don't worry I don't intend to date him. I'm uh..yeah I'm kinda older than him probably. You're 18? Yeah I'm older than him. Still. Is he small? Cute? Like a bunny? I like bunnies." Aelia said.

She looked around the boy's dorm.

"Helloooo? Hana's little brother? Come out come out wherever you areee~" She sang out, following Hana.

Surprisingly, Andrew heard a woman's voice calling for him. Not his actual name but it was close enough. However he was unsure if he should go check it out. Curiosity won and he went to go find the voice. He found Hana with a rapid-speaking girl. Andrew ran to her and stayed far away from the other girl, who gave him a curious look.

Merek stirred as he heard a female voice speaking in the boys' dorm hall, somewhat muffled by the door. He opened his eyes, noticing a large book right in front of his face. He had fallen asleep at his desk while reading--a common occurrence no matter where he was. Sitting up, he stretched his aching muscles before letting out a sigh and looking out the window. It was still fairly early in the morning; maybe he could get to breakfast early so as to get a good seat.

He changed into his day clothes and cleaned his glasses before placing them back on his nose. After grabbing the book he had been reading and glancing over the room to make sure he didn't need anything else, he left his room and shut the door behind him.

Dahlia flipped another page of the book in her lap silently. She was sitting in a corner in the library, as far from the door as possible. She'd been up almost all night, reading and occasionaly dozing off. After realizing that tonight would be another sleepless night, like many before, she'd headed to the library, the only place she truelly felt safe. She sighed and glanced up, blinking at the bright light pouring in through the windows. I should probably go get something to eat. Her eyes fell back on one of the many books at her feet. "Eh, eating can wait." She settled back into her corner and picked up another book.

When he reached the cafeteria, the food was still being prepared. Merek sat down at a table in the corner, intending to wait it out, but it wasn't long before he finished his book. He glanced back over to the kitchen; by his estimation, it would be at least another half hour. That would be more than enough time to go to the library and return the novel. He rose from his seat and made it to the library.

Merek handed the book to the librarian and headed toward the back, intending on searching for some of the older books. He slid his finger across the spines as he read their titles, and although many of them looked interesting, there simply wasn't one in that aisle that would satisfy his current craving for an archaeological work. He reached the end and started to turn when he accidentally nudged something on the ground. Glancing down, he realized that he had seemed to have intruded into someone's reading spot, where his ankle had nearly toppled over a stack of books.

"Ah, sorry, I didn't notice you there." he apologized.

Osilus changed his clothes shakily, looking at himself in the mirror. Last night had shaken his usual self-assurance greatly, and he had to fight the urge to stare at his ring all the time, waiting for it to glow. It took him another 10 minutes to compose himself before stepping out into the hall. It was early morning but the place was already filled with Altorus. It wouldn't have been such a big day for him, who had been in the Academy for 3 years, if he didn't catch sight of Mentor Scipio. Weird, the Mentor was usually the less than social type, who showed up only once or twice a semester. Unless it was related to what had happened last night. But he was still not entirely on his feet yet, so he decided that investigating could wait. Osilus turned and head for the Cafeteria.

"It's fine..." She said quietly, not even looking up at the boy. The boy..? "O-oh!" She glanced up in shock. She'd barely even registered that someone was talking to her. "I was about to leave anyways. Um, I'm Dahlia. Bellerose." She resisted the urge to slap herself as she made the awkward introduction. She picked up all of the books that she'd kidnapped for the night and put them in a neat pile. Dahlia stood and dusted herself off, smiling kindly at the boy.

Damon Miller had been awake since the crack of dawn, several hours before. He was so used to his schedule as a farm boy that he always woke up early. He had been quietly exercising, doing push-ups, sit-ups, and chin ups on a bar in his room. Being idle in during the day was what bothered Damon the most about his new life at the academy. Worst yet, he really couldn't leave his room without causing a disturbance, like the girls were doing outside.

Upon hearing noises he wiped the sweat off his brow and picked up his scythe to begin the day. He commanded the ribbons to wrap around his torso like a holding strap, and stepped out the door to see what was going on. He was wearing a plain white shirt and hide pants, just like he would at home. They were dirty, but with a fresh smell like the fields, not one of body odor.

(OOC Note: I have chosen power over the wraps of the scythe as his power. One could almost say the ribbons are technically the magical item, but they are bound to the scythe anyways.)

"I'm Merek Restault. It's nice to meet you." he politely returned, and then gestured toward the books she had moved. "I see that you are also a fan of the academy's library. It's an incredible place, isn't it?" It was nice to learn that someone else shared his love for reading, even if it wasn't necessarily the same genre.

Dahlia blinked, and then smiled. "Yeah, it really is. To be honest, I've never seen so many books in one place before. It's kind of amazing." Back at her Grandmother's house, she'd only had three books to read, and here there were hundreds. She'd made it her personal goal to read all of them. Dahlia pushed her dark bangs out of her face, and turned back to Merek. "I should proabably go change..I spent the night here." She rolled her eyes at herself. "Oh, and it was nice meeting you!" Dahlia smiled once more before leaving the library to go to her room.

Merek nodded his farewell as she left. He started looking down the aisles again before finally settling on one and checking it out. Closing the door behind him, he left the library and headed back to the cafeteria. As long as it had taken him to pick and choose, it seemed that breakfast had already started.

He paused at the entrance to the cafeteria to see who was already there.

Hana mentally sighed and she listened to Aelia before she spotted her brother. Who seemed to went from curious, to happy to see her. She crouched down and hugged him tightly "Andrew, This is Aelia." she smiled softly, kissing his head "I know she's a chatter box, but she is good company." she looked at Aelia "This is my brother, Andrew."

Damon paused in the hallway, seeing the young boy and the sister hugging, along with another girl. He didn't try to hide, but he did not actively alert them to his presence either. He leaned against the hallway wall, listening and watching the conversation. Breakfast was nowhere near over anyways, and he was admittedly curious (being a 15-year-old boy away from his parents for the first time) about the girls at the school.

Dahlia quickly changed her clothes, then stood in the middle of her room, feeling lost. She sat down on the bed and held her necklace in her hand. It had been a while since she'd talked with her mom-No. I can't risk it. She quickly dropped the diamond as if it burnt her, and stood. Dahlia hadn't had real sleep for about three days, and summoning ghosts took so much of her energy. It could cause devastating effects. "Food. I need food." She decided. Dahlia quickly made her way to the cafeteria, holding a book tightly against her chest.

Rin pushed him self upright as he awoke from a good nights sleep. He shook his head, realizing he'd slept in slightly. He shrugged, figuring he hadn't missed breakfast. He stood up, stretching as he made his way across his dorm room. Rin grabbed a shirt and slid it on, then made his way back towards his bed where Timid lay. He picked it up, still as light as a feather in its sheath. He put it on his back then made his way out his dorm room.

Rin looked down the hall way either way. "Come to think of it, I don't know which way the cafeteria is." He sighed, and started down one of the hallways blindly. Looking around, he saw a girl holding some books, yet she seemed rush. Rin's stomach growled. Ugh, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask. Rin rushed to catch up to her. "Excuse me, dumb question, do you know where the cafeteria is?" He said, smiling stupidly.

Dahlia raised an eyebrow at the boy and slowed her pace so that he could keep up. "I do actually. I'm heading there right now. Just follow me." She smiled at him and loosened her death-grip on her books. She shook her head slightly, trying to move her bangs out of her face. "I'm Dahlia Bellerose." Dahlia moved the book into one arm, cradling it against her side and reached up with her free hand, forcibly pushing her bangs away. They were annoying, but made it easier to hide her face.
