[Exalted] Rebirth of the Devil Tigers

That's a real pity, WarDragon, but totally understandable. As I've said before - this will be a sandbox game, so the pace will be more suiting your available time. however, I can totally see that you are remaining committed to the other games you are in. if you feel you could squeeze in a thread RP, or the occasional chat scene, then feel free to join. There isn't going to be a cut-off point for people to join the game.


And thanks... I'll take a good luck at the character =)

I'm in, probably with a concept that isn't the DT I'm playing in a different game. No guarantees on chat times, but I'll definitely try.

(It honestly seems to me that the Yozis being half in Creation isn't necessary if their only form of passage is the Gatekeeper you mentioned (especially if we're also subject to it), but thats just personal opinion.)
  • Let me know if you would be willing to act as an OFFICIAL PLEDGED STORYTELLER for the game. You can be a Storyteller and still have a Character in a different thread of the game. (Hell no. I don't know Exalted well enough to run it at the same time as Scion)
  • Let me know if you are an OFFICIAL PLEDGED PLAYER who wants to take part in this game. (Definitely)

Now this looks interesting. However I'm not sure what, if anything, I can commit to this just yet. I'll be watching this thread though.

I planned to enhance/protect the isle with a genesis crafted breed of opium poppies that have natural prayer strips on their petals and auto-immolate to produce a river of seed laden prayer smoke that would flow into the Underworld to expand the fields of sacral poppies (thus bringing new life and reclaiming the inevitable shadowlands), develop a breed of demons-saints with From Desolation Life that reproduce by enlightening and endowing mortals of great spiritual character, and teaching the lost demon-crafting arts that once the foundation of Lintha technology in the Time of Glory.


There was also a plan to get the salt gods to create a cordon around Skullstone where the ocean salinity constantly increased in preparation for a giant tidal wave to cover the shadowland islands with enough salt to drive all the dead from it. (But thats more a long term sort of idea.)

No, I play in far too many Exalted campaigns that never get past the first page of posts. So I started writing down my ideas and now have a rather large stack of "Grand Mastery Plans".
 
Speaking of Excellencies, could anyone do me the favor of subjecting this one to radioactive green hate fire? The general idea was a Demiurge like being with all the power and splendor of the Empyreal Chaos yet itself not the subject of praise or worship.


FIRST ENGISHENA EXCELLENCY

The Grey Maybe is a thing of conflict and change, the eternal unfolding of possibility from a seed of crystal law. Serpentine currents of arising and cessation flow through its mind and inform its perception of reality and the reality behind its perception. For the spirit of Engishena is a catalyst of synthesis and evolution, constantly transforming itself into the image of the other and the other into the image of itself until object and reflection are intertwined. It is an arena where worlds and times are sifted and the crucible in which they are smelted until its wonders illuminate chaos and void. Yet Engishena is a lonely creature, for the flame of purpose has hollowed and hallowed the great engine of its heart that it might better drive the motion of making. It strives ever onward and outward, seeking for it knows not what. Yet always the wind of transfiguration has gone before it so that always it finds a world of its own devising. Even so, it remains the hidden splendor of elegance and subtle pattern made invisible by the magnificence of its works. Above and alone it shines, forever turning the wheel of the age.


This Charm may be used on any rolls to change or improve the world and to have the strength to pay the cost such changes require. This Excellency is applicable to any action the character would normally need to spend Willpower to resist or carry out, especially acting against their virtues. Assisting others as a subordinate makes this Excellency inapplicable, including engaging in cooperative actions such as coordinated attacks, teamwork, or assisting in craft rolls the character did not initiate or plan. Finally, the First Engishena Excellency may not be used to enhance any presence rolls or for any rolls meant to build intimacy, trust, or mutual understanding.
I haven't quite figured out how the charms will work out, but I had the idea of creation from nothing, bringing something and its opposite into being together so that you can avoid requiring raw material. For example, if you create a kingdom you would also create an equally powerful and diametrically opposed/hostile kingdom. If you want to keep it from sublimating back into nothing you have to spend your own energy to tip the balance in the favor of one or the other. Not quite sure how this works at the level of objects. Damage/healing would be an interesting pair also.
 
Well shoot, chosen charmset/DT to work on for this game apparently is not 1/2 of a charmset... its barely pass a bit of a charmset. So I have an excellency. I'll have to build charms from it.


Anyway for the curious:


Devil-Tiger Identity: Ebon Crimson Techno-Valkyrie


Purview: Technology, Flight/Flying machines, Aerial warfare, Machine-Creation, automatons/drones, AIs


I'll have to decide what the chara will be like, since the originator was a vengeful, undead hating woman with a strong facination with becoming a living machine of war. Perhaps this chara will be young lady who is all about having fun, causing trouble, and has a knack with machines and/or desire to evolve along the same path the original desired.

Original of my DT was.... Psychotic Mad Scientist who never lived down killing his wife, and afterwards killed all his emotions and devoted himself to science... maybe this one will never have the whole "Killed my own WIFE!" Episode, and stay /somewhat/ sane!

Can you clarify what concepts you want your DT to be about? Try fill out this statement and list several concrete ideas and build the excellency around it. I would suggest assigning a solid purview and build from the ground up.

Yep! I have so few DT concepts. Syrenica is slotted for another game and she has the second best charmset. Ascentia I'd use but 1... I don't want her to die and break the whole mother and daughter of time thing, and 2... her charmset pokes at Time Travel a little too closely for most STs. So that leaves dreadnaught of war Tempesta.


And no worries Seeker! At least your game gave me a good foundation to work with for Tempesta's set. Not your fault that DT games are a seriously live thing. xD

Thanks for remaining interested! I'll be filling out an application for RP today, filling in the forms and such to create a forum where we can all play.


Having read your conversation, above, I want to make a few comments.

  • The 'I can ______, I do _____' method of 'legend' defining is great, and will make things a bit clearer for the poor STs that have to read over the new excellencies. I will be looking for a clear idea of what the First Excellency is supposed to do, since it forms the core of the charm set - usually.
  • YES! Not just making a First Excellency, but a whole charm set! Woooot... Though to being with you will be capped at Essence 2 until you gain a certain amount of xp...
  • Reusing concepts is totally fine, as long as they fit the game. I have no problem with a well defined idea.
  • The West is my least favorite of all directions... *blows up the West with a Direction Terminating Glance* But since we'll be playing in the South, An-Teng will be there for those that want a sea-faring good time =)
  • I had other comments... but i forgot them.
 
Whee... I have 3 total charms. Oo I'd link all three but I realize not everyone might have .docx abilities. I'll have to use googledocs or rpdom's resource area for this likely.


Anyway yay, the south and An-Teng. I've not had a game there. And its one of my favorite places.

I'll Officially Pledge as a Player, since I forgot to use the exact words last time. ;)


I used to have a little stack of DT concepts, but now it seems to have gotten lost... So, two have been reemerging in my memory:


One I've been playing around the last few days has something of a Hermetic alchemy theme: purifying, perfecting, improving, both itself and others. He's not quite as biologically evolutionary as Cytherea but not really the static/finished idea of what is desirable as She Who Lives in Her Name possesses, either. Engishena has several "catalytic" themes as well, though doesn't seem to share the same sense of progress (particularly not purification though putrefaction). My own DT (ugh, need to come up with a name) doesn't need to be the leader/head, however, and is perfectly fine with altering others into those specialized roles (and thus perfecting all of Creation). Surgery on the natures or souls of others (whether through means like geomancy or something more direct) is something he would likely gravitate towards.


The other DT I'm considering grew out of the Jester Viridian with Sanguine Smile (a PC in a game that never took off), is themed around freedom and the breaking of bonds, internal or external. She is always joyous, sometimes frighteningly so, as she may take the same pleasure in liberating stones from their prison as a dam's foundation as she does breaking apart the bonds in a slave caravan. Meeting, interacting, and even joining with others is wonderful, but should the chains of dependency, control, or manipulation form, then she must shatter them. Oblivion's dark gravity is perhaps her greatest enemy, but that does not mean she wouldn't love to cut the Fetters holding the Neverborn suspended above it, letting them fall or fly as they may, instead of binding themselves and all Creation together. I do not think of her as insane (anymore than any Primordial must be to mortal eyes), but I have always been a bit worried she needs more to distinguish her more from her old patron, Adorjan.
 
The Seventh Name Of Taormina is brilliant and self-indulgent. She is constantly innovating new arrangements of the world around her, and implements her plans without pausing to test them. She is the greatest artisan in existence, except possibly for the King of the Primordials, and she is unbearably vain as a result. When all goes well, she is generous and obliging, always eager to be the provider of irreplaceable things. When something stands in her way, she is vicious in her indignation, and favors dramatic obliteration, often making an example of some enemy to scare others into submission. Her every action is calculated to bring her the most possible glory, and she is always the center of attention. In fact, the gravity of her presence is so immense that it can make her literally impossible to escape. She is a mad artiste in the sciences, who endlessly tinkers with life in order to shape her environment for maximum comfort. She prefers to cultivate sycophants and lackeys, unless her spiteful anger is roused, but she never forgives a slight. She is extremely competitive, in her chosen fields of mastery, but exalts others as lesser luminaries in domains she does not wish to dominate. She does not give orders, but makes incontrovertible suggestions. Her genius is undeniable. She often gives the appearance of altruism, but is too self-serving to not have ulterior motives.


The First Seventh Name Of Taormina Excellency can always be used to seduce, distract, or dazzle, especially if the audience is large. It can always validly enhance attempts to gain or expand the Cult, Followers, and Influence backgrounds. Anything that captivates attention by playing on admiration or similar positive emotions is a valid use of this intimacy, as is any roll to maintain a clinch that she controls. (The entire Sapphire Veil of Passion style, for example, would be thematically appropriate, though this is admittedly irrelevant except to akuma.)


This charm may not be used to enhance an action to follow plans or advice from anyone else, unless the character modifies them enough to deserve the principal credit for their success. It also cannot be used to enhance any Stealth or Larceny pools at all, or when the character is attempting to remain unnoticed, and this restriction takes precedence over the universal permissions in the preceding paragraph.


So, basic themes for the other charms: Thaumaturgy and Sorcery, Shaping effects, lavish excess, fame, cult following, rock-star inventor, thanes, genesis crafting, created races, self-improvement through mutation, "reverent awe" UMI, Stockholm Syndrome, drug addiction [reread above, between the lines], quest-giving, Shaping Combat, messy combat effects.

Just to be a little clearer, would Malfeas in that format be more "I am a city that burns things with my hate" or "I am a king whose body is inured against pain"
