Professional Argentine
Almost a year ago, after the unexplained annexation of the United Provinces of Argent, several important members of the Provincial government and army had to abandon their home nation and seek shelter to the only nation that was capable of helping them in their direst time. The nation of Greater Sumatra. There was only one condition, the remnants of the Provincial army had to serve in the Sumatran army, in exchange, they would be allowed to stay in the Sumatran isle of Nihas.
Instead of being granted an autonomous region as once promised after the pacification of Aceh, the Provincials were reduced to nothing more than common grunts, living in a small island which was home to mercenaries, militias and other type of undesirable characters. But thanks to the leadership of commander Juan R. Sanchez and of the ex-Vice President Melissa Medeiros, the Provincial people managed to thrive, pushing their influence in the island and inserting their dominance over the various militias and mercenaries living in it, some of the outlaws respected it, others despised it. There are rumors of the Provincials trying to create an autonomous government in the island, it is unknown if they are actually true but the Sumatran government does not appreciate these rumors.

It was a normal day for the Provincial people in Nihas, the men patrolled the island, sometimes striking conversation with the more friendly mercenaries or get scornful looks from the less friendly ones. In the base, as the men relax and prepare for future work serving under the Sumatran army, a sudden and unexpected phone call causes commotion, a young soldier rushes through the base to speak with the people in charge of the Provincial base, the young soldier violently opened the door to the office where the ex-Vice President, the General and even the son of ex-President Alejandro Usariaga were working in. The young man’s eyes were wide open and tried to speak between heavy pants.
Soldier: Ma’am! We’ve got a call from him! The President is alive!
The soldier exclaimed while trying to catch his breath. Marcelo, Alejandro’s son, did not waste any more time, he jumped out of his seat and rushed to the phone in the main office, he was soon followed by Medeiros and the General. When Medeiros and the General walked into the room, the young man was having an emotional talk with his father, the two talked for almost thirty minutes before Marcelo handled the phone to Medeiros.
Marcelo: He wants to talk to you; he says he’s got important news for you.
Melissa: You have a lot of nerve being alive. Jokes aside, I’m glad you are alive Ale, but we have a lot to talk about, first of, where have you been? Where are you now?
• London, Herrera •
On the other end of the line, Alejandro was standing in the middle of a quite expensive café in London; he was wearing casual clothes and looked like a normal person. To the naked eye, it might seem like he was alone and unprotected, but the truth is that he always traveled with ex-members of the Argentum Occalatus, the Provincial secret service, who remained loyal to Alejandro even after the disbandment of the organization by the Argentinian government.
Alejandro: Nice to speak with you again after so long Mel. To answer your first question… I’ve had to move around, from embassy to embassy, had to move through half of South America to reach the Samogitian embassy in Brazil, avoiding Argentinian spies and even some assassins.
He took a sip of his dark coffee before speaking again.
Alejandro: And right now? In a Herreran Café in London, enjoying what little free time I have before I have to muster up the courage to speak with our Majesty.
Medeiros was quiet, trying to process what Alejandro was talking about.
Melissa: Why do you want to speak with her?
She asked with curiosity. Alejandro took another sip from his coffee before speaking again.
Alejandro: Isn’t it obvious? I want to take back what is ours but we can’t do it alone, we need our old allies to back us up.
Melissa: What are you talking about Alejandro? We lost everything, taking it back from Argentina would be impossible!
Alejandro: Aren’t you supposed to be the one that never backs down from a good fight? If it was impossible I wouldn’t be here, I’d be with my son and my loved ones somewhere in Tchvonia, making a garden or something. Melissa, I’ve got in contact with those still loyal to us in the Argentine army and government, I am talking of at least forty thousand men, maybe more, if I manage to convince some more high ranking officers and, if we get help from Herrera, Tchvonia, Samogitia or Sumatra we will be able to not only take back what we lost… but maybe even get rid of the Argentinian threat once and for all.
Melissa was silent; she gently rubbed her fingers against her temple, trying to process what Alejandro just told her.
Melissa: I don’t get this, I don’t even understand how this happened to begin with. Everything was so sudden and we didn’t even get time to do anything, I find it hard to believe we can do anything to take back what we lost.
Alejandro let out an audible sigh while sitting down, far away from any of the café patrons.
Alejandro: Well, I suppose you deserve an explanation… what happened is that there was a high ranking member of the army that allowed the Argentinians to crawl right under our noses, the Occalatus had actually found evidence about possible treason in the army, but they never expected anything like this… So! The Argentinians were marching on Plaza de Mayo, soon enough their army started to pour in through the borders and we were forced to leave our home. Don’t worry about the traitor though; I’ll handle that one as soon as I can.
Melissa looked perplexed, how did their best secret agency not act in time? There had to be more to this story, she couldn’t believe that the Argentinians would be able to pull such a scheme even with the help of a traitor, it took her a second to think of her next question.
Melissa: And what is your plan?
Alejandro was quick to answer her, he sounded confident, like usual.
Alejandro: First of, I need to get more men through my agents; I won’t rest easy until I get every single possible loyalist in army to help us… Second, I’ve to gather support from our old allies, although things are not looking well on that front, when I approached the Herreran chancellor, he told me that the… ‘Empress’ wasn’t really amused by our mysterious collapse, understandable to be honest; we fell like some unstable South American junta, after all.
Melissa: What about the Grand Duchy of Samogitia?
Alejandro: Haven’t you heard? The Duke is dead, in fact as soon as I am done here, I’ll head to his funeral and use the opportunity to talk with the guy that’ll take his place. not sure if it'll be his son or someone else but maybe we can agree on something. And before you ask, yes, then I’ll head to Tchvonia, I am sure they’ll help us, after all me and Veselov are still good friends and they certainly miss a good trade partner... after visiting Tchvonia, I'll head to Sumatra and see if they are willing to support us. We've got the american option, honestly I’d rather not get their backing, but as you know, you can’t say No to Uncle Sam. I’ll have to negotiate with the Man himself, we will see.
Melissa: ...then what do you want us to?
Alejandro: Right now I need you and whoever is in command there to train and get ready, we are going to face something we've never faced before Melissa. We are not going to act as world police and help a dying nation like Turkey, we are not going to be the poster boys for Sumatra or the pets of Herrera. We are fighting a war of our own, a war for our democracy -- a War for Independence.
And so start the first steps for the Provincial Revolution.
