Episode 2: The Wolf of New York

Jim opened one eye.  "Why do you have to be so creepy..."  He moaned under his breath looking straight at floating scales above someone that was obviously invisible.  "I was wondering who you were, but now that I see you can turn yourself invisible, you're here for my card right?"  Jim said lazily as he estimated where the person's eyes were based on the position of the scales.  The scales didn't seem too skewed... average.  The person hasn't committed any serious moral injustices as far as he could see.  "Well?"  Jim sat up.

"Uh... Well then... No, no I'm not here for your card at all actually. Wait, card? What kind of card? A business card? Credit card? A strange black card with some picture of an ancient god or goddess that came in a weird silver box with a strange letter? Wait, why was I so specific about that? Gah, I'm getting off topic here! Look, I didn't come here for whatever card you're talking about." She says, standing up. "You survived being attacked by the Mangler, so, he must have had a reason to come after you, or at the very least you had to have seen what he looked like when you got attacked! I want to hunt the Mangler down and bring him to justice, like a true superhero! So...Uh...I came here for information. Didn't mean to be creepy, sorry. I kinda thought you were asleep." She says, more than a little confused as to how Jim was managing to look right at her while she was still invisible.

Anastasiya nodded, she did have a lot of info that would help him, and any info that would lead to eliminating the Mangler once and for all was a cause she would definitely help. "Yes I do, but I must know, do you have a black card?" To the second part, she actually already began walking. "Already on that, we should actually check to see where it's blood trail went, also my name is Anastasiya Razuvayeva, but I also known as the vigilante 'Nemesis'. It is nice to meet you Eddie" That's when she happened to hear a whisper again, and as she heard it, it sounded familiar... After a bit she finally put a voice to a face, it was Sunni... The path was faint and hard to track, and she also didn't want to abandon Eddie, so she reluctantly decided to stay with Eddie and inform him of the situation.

Eddie walked alongside Anastasiya casually. When she brought up the subject of powers, he silently raised an eyebrow. A black card..? It must be relevant to her in some way. Perhaps she has one? "I'm afraid I do not have a black card." He looked over at her. "Your Nemesis huh? Been doing some nice work in the streets from what I've heard. Nice to meet you Anastasiya." Eddie looked at the path. It would be faster if they weren't walking, but there wasn't much they could do.

Anastasiya took note of the fact that Eddie had no black card. Thinking to herself she knew that Eddie was walking into a ballpark he had no idea existed or what its capabilities were. She had to inform him. "Hoo boy, you are in for one hell of a rambling for as to what the fuck is going on..." She said glancing over at him. She smirked slightly when he said he had heard of her. "Yes, I have because the police can't seem to bring down true justice because we seem to be the only ones bringing down true justice on those rats... Now I have also heard quite the same about you too, it is nice to meet you too Eddie." She then kept her face straight again. "Well, now I have only gotten and learned about this yesterday... Which just happened to be the day I found the Mangler, which I can guess was the man on the tape panicked with his arm gone... Now these black cards based on what I know, are being given out by a group known as the Olympus Group. They are giving out these 'black cards' that have the name of a god or goddess written on them, and picking them up gives some of the power of that god or goddess, and as it seems conveniently I got the Nemesis card... Now, as it seems the Mangler seems to have a card that causes him to change into that wolf form, it also gives him 6 eyes, but it doesn't seem to give him another arm after I gave it a good whipping and took his arm off... Now about that, the Mangler showed himself up at the apartment of the commissioner, he was after a girl that was orphaned after the Mangler killed her parents in their own home." She decided not to directly reference the fact that it was Sunni, the girl he had actually saw earlier for reasons. "As it seems, he appears to be after people with these 'black cards' which would be his motive here. But I ended up making it to the apartment with the commissioners and another person and after a little fight that caused me to take off the Manglers arm because of some of the power the card gave me, I ended up pursuing him and unfortunately he got away after he went into that mall which is why you saw me on the tape. Now we simply need to know the general direction he went in, because obviously he had to have left a blood trail somewhere..." By now Anastasiya realized her translucency to herself disappeared and with that she mentally clocked in the amount of time it was active at around 5 minutes. Then to count how much time it would take to cool down, she took out her phone quickly and put on a timer to count how much time it would take before she could use it again, which she would try doing again in a little while.

"Uh... Well then... No, no I'm not here for your card at all actually. Wait, card? What kind of card? A business card? Credit card? She says, more than a little confused as to how Jim was managing to look right at her while she was still invisible.

"Superhero huh?"  Jim said after listening to Jenny.  He grit his teeth and stared at the wall with grumpy eyes.  "Just because some card gave you powers doesn't mean you are a superhero.  This is real life kid, you ain't no Tony Stark or Captain America.  The Mangler is dangerous, don't get involved with it... If you keep pursuing it, you will put yourself in danger..."  Jim explained

Lavernius tried to piece together the information. "So what we know is that the killings tend to happen in late afternoon to night. The victim's were commonly in secluded places with no one around. Were you guys able to find anything on any cameras that might have been at these locations? Say Starbucks or the apartment building? The spacing between kills is interesting as well. The person has a card. But, maybe they can't fully control it? Or it somehow compels them to kill?" LA was just pitching things, but the possibilities were make his blood boil in anticipation.

@IamNotLoki

Mark nodded about the victims all being killed at night.  "That's true... but then again it's perfectly logical for a criminal to commit his crimes at night time, less witnesses, less activity, less chance to get caught..."  Mark explained.  "We don't have any camera footage of the Mangler in those areas unfortunately..."  Mark added.  "I'm not sure how the cards work but you might be on to something ..."

"Tony Stark's not really a good example of a hero. Sure, he saves people, stops criminals, whatever, but at the same time he's selfish, narcissistic, and undeniably the bad guy at times. I know it's off topic, but, just saying. And, either way, I know it's dangerous, I just don't really care! Sure, I could get hurt, possibly injured, hell, possibly killed, but, at the same time I could stop a dangerous serial killer who has killed multiple people! Someone like that needs to be stopped!" She says, shrugging. "Think of it this way, what's better, sitting around and letting more people get killed because you're afraid of being injured or even meeting the same fate as previous victims, or trying to stop the killer, even at the risk of your own wellbeing? I know my answer, Mr. Irons. Wait...how did you know I got powers from a card anyway? Sure I mentioned cards earlier, well, no, you kinda did and I rambled on a bit after you mention a card or something, but, I didn't mention anything about powers, at least I don't think I did, did I?"

Jim frowned and looked at the sheets.  He didn't really know where to look because the young woman was playing games and kept herself invisible.  "I know I'm not the only one to get  a Black card... the mysterious phenomena that are happening right now are caused by these cards.  I can confirm you are here because you are talking to me, and I can see that you are invisible.  The only logical answer is you are using a black card... there's no other explanation that can explain why the wind is talking to me... unless I'm going crazy..."  Jim laid back down and covered his face with sheets.  "If you're not gonna turn visible and cut the games, I'm gonna take back my nap, thanks..."  Jim said under the sheets.

"Erm. I would have turned visible again by now if I knew how to. I'm not staying invisible by choice you know, since really there's no reason for me to. Once I turn invisible I just...kinda have to wait it out I guess. I mean, I ended up figuring out how to turn invisible kinda by accident, and haven't really found a way to, you know, turn it off at will. Look, I'm new to having weird powers, ok? Also, I'm not playing games, so...don't know what you mean there. I've tried to be pretty straightforward here. I want information about the Mangler. You, however, ended up getting me off topic, which is entirely your fault and your doing. So, can you please give me some info on the Mangler? Anything, appearance, any leads as to where he is, anything?" Jennifer asks, starting to get a bit irritated. She was starting to feel like she'd wasted her time coming her since she wasn't getting any answers out of this guy. "That's the only damn reason why I came here in the first place, after all, and I sure as hell am not leaving here without some answers, so at least give me some sort of lead." She says, crossing her arms and muttering something rather rude under her breath.

Sunni was completely lost in her thoughts, only half listening to the conversation. She found herself thinking back to her parent's death, when she saw their ripped bodies sprawled on the ground. Ah, red. How Sunni hated the colour red now.

"Maybe we should figure out who this person is," Sunni said quietly. "We won't find anything out if all we know is that he acts like a typical criminal. Like I dunno, go to where he was last seen."

"I don't know anything either... even If I did... I wouldn't just give the details of the investigation to a person I can't even see..."  He sighed under the sheets.  "If you really want to risk your neck trying to catch the Mangler, you gotta find your own clues..."   Jim stated.  "I cant help you here..."

"Even if you did know something you wouldn't- Wow, you basically just stated that you refuse to someone who just wants to do one thing, help stop a criminal, which is something you police officers seem to constantly do an absolutely shit job at doing, even with criminals that aren't as elusive as the Mangler! Probably because most police officers are probably just corrupt bastards payed off to look the other way, and hell, it wouldn't surprise me if you were one too! At the very least I can understand why superheroes don't get along with cops! I'm no damned detective, and even if I did try and find my own clues do you really think some random citizen would just be able to find something?! If so you're just plain stupid!" She angrily rants. "If I wasn't a good person I'd probably have tried to use force or blackmail you to make you divulge information, but I'm no Punisher, I'm more of a...erm...nevermind, screw that metaphor. Oh, and by the way, I'm not done with you yet. You'll be seeing...erm...hearing from me, again soon. I can't say seeing from me again because, well, I'm invisible right now, so technically- wait, why the hell am I explaining this to you?!" Jennifer shakes her head, leaving the room and slamming the door behind her. "Damn that Irons guy. I bet he has some sort of info, but isn't telling me... might just be something trivial like what the Mangler looks like though, but still...damn it, I'm going to have to start searching for clues myself..." She mutters to herself as she takes the elevator back down to the first floor.

True Justice? Eddie looked the woman over as if seeing her in a different light. He could practically see the strength of her belief in her own personal brand of justice. She's heard of me? I did build a bit of reputation from being a cop. The Closer. I remember when I used to like that name. Eddie rejected that useless thought and focused on the matter at hand. "I understand the situation better now." Was his only response to Anastasiya's ramble. "Let me just ask you one thing? How do you think a hand gun would do against this thing?" He had made a purchase this morning that he was hoping would help him.

If I don't answer, It means I'm caught up in something..."  Mark said as he put on his coat.  "I'll see you guys later..."  Mark left Sunni alone with LA.

Anastasiya smiled a little bit when he said he understood. "Good, you're going to need that info." She was concerned although with the fact that he had no black card to utilize. So honestly in her opinion she said. "Honestly, the Mangler is quite powerful, the commissioner struggled to fight him off even with him himself having a black card. I would say you're going to need more than a small handgun to take him out. You are also going to need to plan it out... Now that's all I know about this whole mess right now, I think it would be best to get each others numbers or something that way if any developments come up we can inform each other about them and utilize it."

Eddie nodded his head at Ana's assessment of the beast. " Here's my number. Now, i'm curious. I picked up two clips of full metal jacket rounds this morning. Do you think that would help?" He had already had a plan in mind for this Mangler. Two through the legs and one in the head. God. I sound like.. Eddie stopped his thought and let out a deep sigh. "Let's continue. We need to find this damned thing."

Lavernius waved Mark off and looked at Sunni. "So.. wanna go chase after the Mangler?" He wasn't sure what to do with the girl. She was still afraid of him and he wasn't sure how to change that. "Looks like there's nothing else. So we're gonna have to take our chances."

"Okay!" Sunni said, unable to meet Mr. LA's eyes.

Red eyes. Red blood.

Sunni wasn't sure why, but she had formed some sort of anger. It was strange. She was still terrified of the monster. She was still miserable about her- She didn't want to think about it. But she was also filled with some sort of passion. Sunni had felt this feeling before, when she was in elementary school.

"Where do we go?" She asked.

Sunni realized she had no idea where the Mangler was. That could be a problem.

Anastasiya took out her phone and put in his number into her phone. She then looked up at him with those cold eyes of her's and said brushing her blonde hair back. "Maybe, I cannot tell for sure." She said shrugging her shoulders. Then she noticed he dwelled off into thought for a moment and then snapped out of it so she decided not to mention it. "Aye let us continue. And hello..." That's when she noticed the distinct crimson that both had seen many times. Blood... That meant they were on the right track, and as it seems it lead right out of the mall somewhere. "Well, I think we found the trail that will lead us right to our prey... Hopefully, that son of a bitch didn't get too far..." She said as she analyzed the trail and took another look at the direction it was heading in. Now following it slowly forward to see if there was anything else that jumped out at them.

The blood trail led to a dried up puddle of blood near the East River.  Small drops of blood stained the concrete leading to a small hole in a wall restaurant.  Noises can be heard inside.

"Looks like the game is afoot." Eddie said with the faintest visage of a smile. He took a clip of FMJ bullets out of the inside of his coat and slid it into his glock. Eddie's mind was already zooming to the confrontation with the Mangler and how to deal with it. "This will be interesting either way."

Sunni liked the idea of winging it.

"If you're calling Ms. Ana, don't tell her about me." Sunni said quickly when Mr. LA took out his phone. She didn't need more anger upon her.

"Yes, it is..." Her piercing gunmetal blue eyes growing evidently determined. Anastasiya then set on the course to follow it, she mentally and physically prepared herself as she got ever closer to where most likely the Mangler was, or his human form. As they got closer she noticed it was leading to a restaurant, and as she got closer she began to feel the empowerment, the same type of empowerment she felt just that night earlier, except she was also feeling a little more powerful, some people in there must have committed crimes as well. Then as they neared the restaurant she said "And yes this will be interesting now let's g-" she was then interrupted by a phone call, Anastasiya chuckled and said with dry sarcasm as she saw who the caller ID was "Oh well isn't this perfect timing..." She then brought the phone to her ear accepting the call and asked "Hello? Yes, what is it?"

Eddie kept his gun hidden as he approached the restaurant door, he took up position on one side of the door as if they were breaching it. He waited patiently trying to hear what was going on inside the place.

Sunni liked the idea of winging it.

"If you're calling Ms. Ana, don't tell her about me." Sunni said quickly when Mr. LA took out his phone. She didn't need more anger upon her.

Lavernius smiled at the sound of Ana's voice. "Don't sound so happy to hear from me, Anastasiya." He said teasingly before becoming serious. "Where are you? Have you found anything out about the Mangler?"

Anastasiya nodded, as she similarly put herself on the other end of the door to keep an eye on Eddie's blind spots she similarly had one arm on her phone and her usual whip hand by her side at her whip, ready to uncoil and strike at a moments notice, ready to deal out justice. She had no true experience in breaching and did not look like a total amateur but had much room for improvement.

Turning her head away from the door to let less noise come through, though to be sure she said in a quieter tone. "Yeah, because I am always not happy." She retorted teasing back. But then she went back to being serious herself and determined stating. "Me and someone else followed the blood trail, it lead us to a restaurant known as the Cajun Cave, I already feel empowered so there is no doubt in my mind he is in there, if you are going to help us you better come quickly, because we are not waiting on you." She then hung up to her phone, looked back at Eddie and said. "Someone who was at the apartment with me last night assisting in chasing the Mangler away is going to come to assist, but I am telling him we won't wait for him. Now, I feel really empowered right now, the same way I felt the night of the mall incident. Except slightly more powerful since some others in there must have committed crimes as well, so there shouldn't be a doubt in my mind we found him." Her cold eyes had never looked more determined than they were until now, she was hyper-focused on the situation and was preparing for almost anything at this rate. "I will go on your signal."

@IamNotLoki We are here and ready for what may be the final battle, well of this chapter. I am also ready when you are ready.

Eddie acknowledged Ana's remark about more potential targets. He adjusted his scenarios to be more flexible and fit more people. "Guess it's nice to have back up. Hope he's reliable." Eddie slid a little closer to the door. He gave it the tiniest of turns to see if it unlocked before resetting position. "Here's what's gonna happen. I'm gonna count up to three on my fingers, when I reach three I'll throw open the door and you run in. I'll follow behind you to provide cover. Or we can flip it. Doesn't matter to me."
