Earth After Dusk

A roleplay involving the supernatural

It happened suddenly, no one was able to stop it. The video had gone viral before anyone could even discern where the video was originally from. People tried to debunk it, prove that it was false. Scientists and the more left-brained type people couldn't believe it. Religious people thought it was a bad omen. No matter what they thought of it, no one could deny what the video was no matter how hard they tried. The legends were true. They were real. It was... A werewolf, and a vampire. They were fighting. Soon after that video appeared, so did others. Vampires feeding. Werewolves transforming. Footage appeared showing what looked like an odd kind of Order, slaying the supernatural beasts. Videos and photos started popping up everywhere in social media, from all across the globe. It caused a divide, for obvious reasons. Some people were afraid, they wanted the supernatural dead. Some of those people joined the slayers, others just voiced their angry opinions from afar. Other people... Were ecstatic. They were soon dubbed the "Supernatural Sympathizers". It's caused war.

How will this affair unravel? Will one species defeat another? Will the world come to form a peaceful unity?

You shall decide.

Werewolves

Lýkos:

Backstory

The stories always talk about people turning into wolves, the horror of being trapped in the body of a savage beast. They never stopped to consider the fact that maybe it wasn’t people turning into wolves, but rather wolves turning into people. They were originally created by an unknown tribe, thousands upon thousands of years ago. It’s said the tribes’ people mated with wolves and performed weird magical rituals… The end product were the beasts known as Lýkos.

Race Overview

The Lýkos create packs and pass on a hereditary werewolf gene. They mate for life, give birth and are born in wolf form. Life is hardest for them whilst pups as they cannot yet control the Change. One minute they’ll be learning how to hunt, happily tearing the flesh off of their fallen victim with their sharp and powerful teeth. The next, they’ll be a human toddler, covered in blood and screaming next to an animal carcass. Believe you me, it takes their parents for a real spin… Compared to Feenix or Mutts that begin life as humans, the Lýkos age quickly. As it only takes one year for a wolf to become of mating age, thus at that time a Lýkos in human state is around the age of 18 in human years. One a fully matured wolf, they normally gain control of the Change and usually end up spending more time in human form. Their aging then slows down to a more human-like speed, although compared to the average human lifespan the Lýkos still live much shorter. Just like the other werewolf races Lýkos have heightened senses, superior athletic abilities, the ability to shift, and they fall to the mercy of the full moon.

Feenix:

Backstory

The Fenxi have been around since the dawn of mammals, but only in recent centuries have the mystery behind the Feenix been revealed. In early society Fenxi were murdered for being demons by human civilisations. Fenxi were also used by humans up until the more modern warefare area as weapons of war, the earliest use being with the Byzantine use of Greek Fire due to the Feenix strong tolerance to heat. Legend says that the Feenix was born during an eclipse, when lightning from the storm struck a warrior’s body, causing him to burst into flames that were not affected by the heavy rainfall.

Race Overview

Fenxi share many attributes with Lýkos and Mutts, heightened senses, superior athletic abilities, the ability to shift, and they fall to the mercy of the full moon. But, unlike Lýkos and Mutts, Fenxi can only half shift, causing them to become much more wolf like, but they can never transform into a full wolf. Fenxi also have a strange ability during an eclipse. An eclipse causes Lýkos and Mutts to lose their ability to shift into wolf form when fully matured, where a Feenix is not affected by the eclipse, allowing them to fight and defend a pack from attackers. The Fenxi also have a special ability to summon the shadows. Once a Feenix is in full control of the humanoid and supernatural parts of their body and soul, they can begin to use their shadow. This power allows them to (with much training) summon up to four shadows of themselves to fight alongside them, though only in darkness. Fenxi can also survive strong electrical currents and temperatures that could melt human flesh. But, the Fenxi are extremely vulnerable to the cold, any temperature below -10oC will cause them to lose their powers, and then lose control of their body, leaving their souls to freeze. Becoming a Feenix is very difficult. Only a human can become one, and they must either be bitten during a lunar eclipse, or bitten during the night of a new moon on the arm of their dominate hand, and even then, ⅕ fenxi bitten will burst into flames and die as the bite sets in instead of converting. This makes Fenxi very rare and big commodities for a pack, two fully mature shadow Fenxi can protect a whole pack during an eclipse.

Mutts:

Backstory

Mutts, the werewolves most stories talk about. They are created by humans being bitten by a Lýkos, at any other time except a lunar eclipse. They were originally created because Lýkos numbers were dwindling, due to mass executions performed by ancient civilizations who thought the Lýkos were demons sent by the Devil to possess and torture humans. The Lýkos needed more wolves to mate with. Nowadays they’re usually created because a Lýkos has fallen in love with a human.

Race Overview

Mutts can only be created by a Lýkos bite. The chances of a human being bitten and surviving their first transformation is slim, especially if they don’t actually want to transform. That’s the trickiest part of creating a Mutt. They have to truly want to become a wolf, with their entire body and soul for it to work, otherwise… When the first transformation takes place, instead of flesh and bone constricting and expanding into the new body, the limbs and organs will distort in unnatural ways. Ultimately, this will lead to an excruciating and slow death. If the first transformation goes smoothly, the human is officially a Mutt for life. Unlike Lýkos and Fenxi, Mutts must eat human flesh to retain their human side, otherwise the wolf will consume them and they will turn into pure wolves. Just like the other werewolf races Mutts have heightened senses, superior athletic abilities, the ability to shift, and they fall to the mercy of the full moon.

Vampires

The Old Ones / Mors:

Backstory

The Old Ones… They have been around longer than almost every single thing on Earth today, except maybe the rocks. Yes, they were born shortly after the rocks, born from a love affair between a Goddess and the stars. They’re not very different from you or I, except we leave… The Old Ones don’t. They live forever. You can try to kill them, though I wouldn’t if I were you. You may think you have succeeded too, but they’ll come back. They always come back. Watch your back, fellow prey, because among us walks a darkness that no one would ever wish upon their worst enemy…

Race Overview

The Old Ones, commonly referred to as the Mors in vampire society, were the first race of vampires. They are a symbol of the everlasting love between a Goddess and the stars. The Mors cannot go out into the sun because the Goddess hated the day, it took away her glorious stars. The Mors are the only race of vampires that can successfully have full vampire children, thus they usually only marry and mate within their own breed. The Mors don’t drink blood, rather dim the souls of others. When a Mors hunts you they take your very essence, shortening your lifespan and diminishing the number of times your soul will reincarnate. Likely, if a Mors has preyed on you in a past life, they will hunt you again. The Mors have heightened sense of smell, vision, and super strength. The Mors are the only race of vampires that are truly immortal. Yes, their bodies age and give away like any humans would but their soul… Their soul never dies, eternally burning bright as any star. When a Mors child is born, in reality they’ve just given birth to not their own child but to most likely a long lost friend. The parents decide which soul they want to bring back, and when the baby is born that’s the Mors to arrive. Throughout their lives the Mors get flashbacks of past lives, learning more about themselves and those around them, rediscovering old passions and old skills. They are the eternally learning, the eternally growing. The eternally loving.

Inedia:

Backstory

The Inedia… The stuff of nightmares. These are the vampires talked about in stories. The ones who sneak into fair maidens’ rooms in the dark of night and bite their necks, draining them dry. They were created by the Old Ones. A Mors fell in love with a human and couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to spend the rest of eternity with them, as when or if a human soul will reincarnate is always questionable. The monstrosity created was almost… Too beautiful of a disaster. The creation held no love in its soul. If it even had a soul anymore… It turned on its lover, killing the Mors swiftly and feeding from the dead body. Friends, believe me. If you’re ever alone in the dark and what seems to be an angel appears before you, scream. Scream. Then pray that someone heard you, otherwise your fate will likely be painful…

Race Overview

The Inedia are vampires that can be created by a Mors or another Inedia. They must be drained to the verge of death, and then filled with the blood of their creator. Just like the Mors they cannot go out into the sun, but unlike the Mors the full moon weakens them slightly. Typically when an Inedia is created their personality from their human life completely changes, at least until they learn to control their bloodlust. Unfortunately this can take centuries… Even after learning how to control the bloodlust their personality is usually still very aggressive, cold and merciless. Unlike the Mors, the Inedia are not truly immortal. Their bodies do not age, which means they can live for centuries upon centuries but once their flame is extinguished, they’re gone for good. Inedia hunt for blood, whether it be human, werewolf, or even other races of vampire. Just like the Mors the Inedia have heightened sense of smell, vision, fast healing and can move incredibly fast.

Daímonas:

Backstory

The Daímonas are atrocities, according to vampire society. Bunch of hypocrites, if you ask me. The Daímonas came into existence when a child was conceived between a Mors and a human. They’re half-human half-vampire beasts, often born with odd mutations, such as double sets of fangs. They often end up killing the human parent shortly after birth if not careful, which is rather sad considering the Daímonas are usually very affectionate children. Once grown the Daímonas are often enlisted as fighters and hunters because they are the only race of vampire able to go out in the daylight. There are Daímonas sympathizers among vampires though, thinking them to be more than the mistake they’re often seen as. All I know for sure is, don’t underestimate the child with peculiar sharp teeth or else you can come to regret it…

Race Overview

Unlike a pregnancy with a human baby the child is born after only four and a half months, although Mor scientists and doctors aren’t entirely sure why. Some say obviously it’s because they’re only half human, so they only need half the human amount of time to develop. Once born the child can survive from either human food or by draining souls. As children the Daímonas either age rapidly, reaching adulthood after about two years of life or age slowly, reaching adulthood after about seventy years of life. The Daímonas with long childhoods often use and abuse their outwardly innocent appearance… Once adulthood is reached though the Daímonas stop physically growing/aging. Although their body stops aging, their mind does not and therefore after being alive for more than about 300 years their minds start to fail, falling prey to human diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia. The Daímonas themselves are infertile, meaning they cannot breed with humans, or other types of vampires. They are the only race of vampire that can walk around during the day, often making them the messengers, protectors, and hunters for the rest of the vampires. What better way to lure an unsuspecting prey than during the day? That way they’ll never think that they’re about to become food for vampires... Just like the Mors the Daímonas have super strength and can heal incredibly fast.

Slayers

The Followers of Solis:

Backstory

The Followers of Solis are an ancient order of humans devoted to eradicating any and every supernatural race.”They’re vermin! Preying on us, taking the lives of any who cross their path!” I think maybe they should stop and look at what the human race has done throughout its history… Either way, they’re absolutely hell bent on destroying the supernatural. They worship the sun, as they see the night to be the creation of everything evil. Not necessarily an incredibly religious group, they are definitely fairly devout in their beliefs. Come, one and all. Pick up your blade, your gun, your poison. Help us free ourselves of the menace of the unknown, free us of the evil of the night. Join the Followers of Solis if you dare! Mankind needs heroes like you!

Humans

Friend, I’m sure you know what a human is. Supposedly the ruling creature of the Earth, they like to believe that they’re invincible. I say watch your back though, because you never know what’s out there…

Humans may turn into any race except the Lýkos or the Old Ones / Mors at any point during the roleplay.

Note: I know it's not the most original roleplay idea but I tried to put my own spin on it.

woah this is so cool, but that Feenix one is so neat and original, how did you ever thing of something so awesome and original??

...

i wanna join but... writers block oml

lol my characters are shit anyways but still

I'm so tempted to start as a human :P

(Maybe like a journalist trying to get a story out of this)

Honestly I was kinda worried people wouldn't want to be a human so this gives me hope actually! Being a journalist would be a cool occupation and relevant to the plot line so I think that would work well :)

I am very interested. I like the idea of playing a slayer but we will see.

I wanna join. I can't even decide to be a slayer or a mors! Or a mors that is a slayer? Because she doesn't know what she is? And people thought she was captured as a kid and that's why she was with the Mors? And she gets flashbacks and is all confused?

Ohhhh! I wanna do that! May I?

I'm interested in joining. If you'll have me, I'm quite interested in playing a female Daímonas (long childhood).
