Dreams of the First Age pushed back (?)

Yea, I am pulling it out of my ass...some

Dont know of you all remember, but around 96 WW had a huge layoff and rumors were it was clse to shutting down.

But here is to WW staying viable!

Uh and again much talky talky without having a clue.

The layoffs of '96 were caused by White Wolf starting their fiction lines, but many book chains like barnes&nobles were closing down their mall stores to open superstores. Bookstores can return books to the publisher for credit and they of course did when they closed down the shops, which cost WW money for a time, which caused the layoffs. That had nothing to do with white wolf actually losing money though or anything being wrong with the company, that just was bad timing and eventually got solved.

... for fucks sake, am I the only one on this forum who is tired beyond all tolerance of that word and all the ways it seems to pop up in idle conversation around here?

I wish a new Exalted novel would appear at some point' date=' but unless I write it myself, I'm dreaming.[/quote']Well, then get to writing! I've enjoyed your other pieces on Lore5 and encourage others to read them as well.

Hmm, well, I am speaking of such things because I do have a clue. I have been personally been involved in these kind of meetings were you review financial performance,  every quarter [and every company in the world does this]. You review the forcaste, you review the performance to the forcaste, you make adjustments to your spending accordingly. You can not run a company beyond the income you generate, you will fail [Economics 101].  Unfortunately, I have been in the situation where I had to determine headcount reduction, and the people who would be affected: nothing sucks more.

In 96 WW had hired a lot of people they thought they could support based on their forcaste, and in the end, they couldnt do so. This resulted in headcount reduction.

That said, I dont have any special forsight into WW financials, just like you dont; my statements were hypothecal, and I stated so. If you dont think forcastes, and performance to those forcastes dont effect business decisions, get a clue....

So you were doing a forecast about something that happened 1996... right.

I hereby predict WW I to end 1918... let me check... whoa. I predicted right.

You know what the difference between me and you is? To continue the metaphor of predicting the end of WW I after it happened and using what you said about WW in '96:

Malekith: I am pretty sure WW I will end 1950.

Oh, and for the record. Trying to show off on the internet with your "mad business skillz" and how you "totally were in the same situation" and therefore you got "the clue", while not being able to spell forecast or hypothetical is just ridiculous.

Indeed.

(I just HAD to do it)

Haha, there's a reason I re-wrote Hush, it sucked so hard. Two-year-old writing usually does. That and the inability to use Spellcheck on Wordpad originally. >.>

But my new Hush on Lore5 is infinitely better.

I can take short story requests if anyone wants something like that. PM me.

Inquiring minds want to know what kind of laundry folding leads to lesbian stripper ninjas!

I daydream most of the day away, my body works on automatic :P I just had an idea about a bar, dancing girls and pirates on shore leave.

Once again, you miss the point; did you even really read the posts?

You can't get past the desire to try and attack someone and make yourself look cool.

Looking back on your posts though, this seems to be a pattern; I shouldnt have taken the bait.

Yeah of course. I do it to look cool and not because you are talking out of your arse.

Kid, it is the internet, nobody looks cool here. When I log off there are no groupies waiting and screaming "dominik, it is sooooo cool how you ridiculed,  that malekith dude".

So, no... I am not doing it to look cool. You were talking bullshit, I have a problem with that and corrected you.

You were the one trying to look cool by invoking your "credentials", it is certainly not my fault that it backfired. But then, invoking mad skillz on the internet always backfires ^^

He probably does "martial arts", too... maybe he even is a ninja ^^

No, I am just a low level manager in a moderately sized company; due to the situation of this economy, the declining US auto market, and some delayed launches, we are in the scenario I quoted above.

Wasnt saying that "this is absolutly what is going to happen", was just stating possibilities.

See, you talked out of your arse, I called you out, and from that point onwards you were evading the discussion and throwing your credentials at me... over the internet. Nobody minds you stating possiblities, it is just that you did quite a bit more than just stating.

You say that it all happens because they didn't meet their forecast, that's bullshit. When a small business says "we forecast that we will make 3billion$ next year" and don't meet that forecast, then they are not bankcrupt all of a sudden, they just did not meet an unrealistic forecast . Not meeting the forecast is a symptom, for a cause, the cause was, a lot of bookstores closed and were able to return the books to the publisher for credit. And the cause is the only thing important (one could make a case for companies handled on the stock market and being somewhat dependent on it, but that is prone to exceptions, too), bad forecasts or forecasts not met don't kill your business. People banging on your door and wanting money from you, kill it. Or people not buying your products or whatever.

So, to come back to the present day. White Wolf has not published something for exalted in quite a time? Why is that so?

You go on about forecasts and how bad it is to be not publishing something for a big line etc. etc.

Is it? Scion and Changeling are a runaway success right now, perhaps they needed those developers to quickly do some supplements to make some more money with this success (seems to look plausible, there are a few new supplements there).

Then you go on and talk about the eve developers overtaking white wolf, because that is surely a bad thing... ... how? Really, provide us insight with you mad manager ninja powers.

In the past WW has stated that they will reduce their book output per month because people actually buy all their books and they were getting to a point where people could simply not afford everything therefore the company lost money. Could it have something to do with that?

No... of course it has something to do with not meeting an ominous forecast.
