((Evelyn = 16))

Evelyn stood beside Max as he came from under the dragon. Reading his expression through her mask, it was almost she could read what he was thinking. A wry smirk tugged at her lips from behind her mask, “Are we thinking we need to scale the dragon Herald?” she chimed.

Evelyn was doing small damage and fretted she only had so much left in her. But nevertheless, she felt it best to attack the feet. The hope was that eventually, her own weight would be the worst, as she wouldn’t be able to bear supporting herself - or couldn’t. Her eyes landed on where other dagger had become lodged in the dragon’s hide. She would need to be quick, least to be hit by her tail once more;

“If we can cut her down, we can work our way to the top,” her head turned towards Max once more, “Once she can’t support her weight due to injury, it should be a good opening for you to climb on top to deliver the finishing blow.”

Without much more consideration, Evelyn took a deep breath and raced to the dragon’s hind legs once more. Sliding to avoid being stuck by her flailing tail and claws that threatened to slash her in half. Standing to her feet, she quickly grabbed the hilt of her other dagger and pulled it from the Frostback, ignoring the blood that splattered across her attire and through her mask.

Seeing this, allowed the Bard to come to the assumption that this was where she needed to strike. Which she did; delivering a series of stabs and slices all up alongside the backside of her right leg. Once at the top, she held herself in the one blade. The dragon roaring in agony, nearly losing its footing as it stumbled from the inflicted cuts. Her long neck craned back to peer at the Orlesian that hung from her hip. Evelyn took no time to wait to see the outcome and unplucked herself; dropping to the ground below with a thud and having another near miss of her bringing her front claws down. Evelyn rolled out of the way, groaning at the quick movements and rocks scraping against her once more.

The morning was bright, that was for sure and active as well. This was not a usual thing for either the mage or Templar. Neither one had a decent night sleep from their confrontation last night. When Max called out loudly the both of them got up with a bit of a start. Seeing as there was going to be a big battle not too long ahead Serenity chose to wear her full armor for better protection and brandished her twin swords while Tasuki got on his Templar armor and grabbed his sword and shield to help join in the fray as much as he could. The two were quickly separated as the battle begun quickly and while Tasuki was distracted with trying to help the other warriors with wounding the beast's ankles and, honestly, failing a bit.

z8.jpg
He only managed to get a single cut in before he had to back off before getting hurt. He looked around for his one time friend as he had thought she would have backed him up like she used to with her distanced ice magic but without her staff that range would be limited, wouldn't it? Those estimations were shattered when he saw her brandish those swords and don the full armor. He called to her but she seemed to completely ignore his attempts to keep her safe.

Serenity attempted to dodge the flaming cart that came right at her and Alessandro injuring them both. Her quite badly while Alessandro got away with a minor injury. Alessandro got a wound in the shoulder but Serenity was stabbed in the leg by a large piece of wood. She yelped and grit her teeth as she lay on the ground from the wound. She was thankful that the rouge was there near her and set up a smoke screen. She quickly pulled out the large piece of wood from her leg and used a piece of her cape to make a make-shift bind to keep the wound from bothering her too much during the battle. She slowly got up and called back when she heard the spymaster call her name she called back, "I'm over here, Alessandro." she said and made sure she stood upright and ignored the pain shooting through her leg, "Yes, I'm alright. Just a scratch."

Upon seeing her companion she was relieved to see that he was alright for the most part. She gripped her swords tightly and let her magic flow through them. She had to get close to the dragon but she was lacking in speed and stealth but definitely not in power. "Could you cover my back while I get close to the beast?" she asked him before she made her way toward the beast, attempting to get behind the beast where it was a bit vulnerable before swinging her swords and as he swords sliced the air blades of pure ice shot from the swings to attack the beast. After the spell she was a bit tired. That spell took up a bit of mana and strength. It wasn't one she used often but this battle called for it. So once the spell was done she went joined the warriors on the frontlines. Dodging and slicing with her cold blades with them.

Keenan = 5
Blue = 1 (/6)

Keenan struck again, still having very little luck finding weak points to exploit. Everything had weak points. But most darkspawn were humanoid in shape, with similar structures and similar faults. Keenan for the life of him could not match his knowledge of combat to this new foe.
He rolled as the dragon moved, dodging another foot and grabbing Blue by the collar before she became mabari jelly.
They came up close to Evelyn, she seemed battered but standing, and still determined. He heard her speak.
"Right, get the beast down...its a good idea, better chance to reach vital points if we can just get some height on her...but how will we manage it?"
It was clear they were at a disadvantage fighting the creature on level ground, and it was destroying more and more of the town as they fought.
The task of bringing her down was not so easily done however, the dragon was still strong and showed no signs of fatigue yet, but the party had taken hits, Keenan could see that things might soon become dire.
Another sweeping motion from the dragon's tail sheered the roof off a nearby shed. Keenan put his shield up to protect nearby allies from the flying debris. When he lowered it again the docks were in full view before him.
Keenan stared at them for just a moment before a light flashed on in his mind.
"The bay!" He called loudly, so most could hear. "If we drive her into it perhaps our mages could trap her there! At the very least it would get her away from the houses!"
Keenan had seen the boats moored against the stone-walled edge, so he knew the water was deep right up to it, they just had to push the dragon a little ways and she would be in up to her belly, a well-placed ice spell could freeze the water about her, hopefully it would be enough to at least slow her down, and at best it would allow them the height they needed to reach her back without being flung off.
"Serenity!" He called, "What say you? Do you have the strength to freeze that much water at once?"
If she could, that just left the task of forcing the beast in the needed direction and Keenan was flat out of ideas on how to do that. He looked to the others in hopes they might solve it.

Max had fought with mages for some times now and knew that Keenan's idea was thinking like a military man, not like a mage. It was strategic, but magic was more delicate than that. " It's too soon Keenan! She needs time to recover, we have to end this now! If she breaks the wall it'll fall on the buildings on the other side!" With a grunt, he drove his blade into the thigh of the beast, using that to haul himself up onto the back haunches. It was a bold move, but making it up to the wings or neck was really the best way to take down a dragon, everything else was too plated or hidden.

The Ferelden sky was filled with smoke and the sound of shouting as warriors, rogues, and mages alike battled against the great golden beast. Ash rained around them and burned little holes into the fabric of their clothing. Hearts thudded in unison as tattered fighters regained composure for their last drive against the Ferelden Frostback.

She swung her mighty head, letting out a bellowing roar that shook the very bones of the earth, before sweeping forward and grabbing the rebel up in her claws, her talons scratching and digging into the side of the man. "Tasuki!" Vunora yelled in shock, unable to contain her horror. She had never been so afraid, as they were powerless to stop the violent grip on the man. But yelling had been a mistake, the dragons snake like eyes narrowed into a deadly fine point, locking in on the small elf. Hot liquid rage flickered behind those marble eyes as her golden body swirled with black, ached and bled.

Diving forward, the Ferelden Frostback dropped Tasuki and reached out to lock it's jaws around Vunora.

Rashaan had stopped to reassess her next move after Tasuki had been seized. It was painfully obvious, the exact moment when the dragon had sealed the fate of Vunora. Her clansman. The girl she had known since the beginning. She had been so young when the girl was born. She had been there, heard her first cry of life from outside the tent. But she wasn't Vunora's Ashara anymore, she was Rashaan. She had left her petty life of meaningless confusion for purpose and order. There was a moment, where she almost watched. Almost let her last tie to the clan die before her.

Then in a rush of fury, the elf dropped her sword to clatter against the cobblestoned earth and sprinted forward. With a violent shove, she pushed Vunora out of the way as fangs pierced into her sides and hosted her into the sky. It was strange. She could hear the screaming, smell the dragons foul heated breath, feel as the fangs dug the way into her and yet... it all seemed so far away. Like it was someone elses life and she was simply a spectator to the fatal scene.

She let her eyes close, her body go limp. "ASHARA!" Vunora. She was still getting her name wrong. Hmph. At least... at least Vunora lived to say her name, whatever she chose to believe it was.

~~~~
Vunora was frozen to the ground, laid out in the dirt exactly how she had landed. Blood smeared her cheek from where the ground had scratched against her. She didn't move. Couldn't move. Her heart, her blood, her breath, her blinking, everything was suspended in a moment of overwhelming shock and horror that her mind was fighting to process. She hadn't even heard her scream Ashara's name, it was like it had come from someone else's mouth and not her own. But no...her mouth was still open from when the last letter had left her lips. Her eyebrows still furrowed as if in a silent yell or gasp.
She watched from the ground as ice pierced into the heart of the dragon and showered those below in a rain of sharp red shards. It was only when she felt arms grab her and drag her out of the impact zone of the falling dragon that she ever moved. Scrambling, she made her way onto unsteady legs, shaking like a leaf caught in the breeze- clinging to the arm of whoever had grabbed her like it was her branch. The dragon laid dead, its blood spilled onto the earth around it with an unnaturally red glow, but even in death the Ferelden Frostback gripped Ashara in her jaws.
Thus ended the battle with the great,
Tasuki was not the most graceful of people but strong but this dragon was on another level. There had to be something he could do. You know what they say, be careful what you wish for, you just may get it. And he did. He felt the dragon's talons grip him tightly and nearly crush him inside of his armor. He screamed in pain and agony as the dragon attempted to kill him off there. He thought this would be the end but when he heard someone else yelling his name. He recognized it as Venora, though they hadn't had the chance to talk much since the journey began, he still recognized her voice. She was worried about him but if she screams like that the dragon will notice her and she'd be in danger and that's exactly what happened. He was dropped hard onto the ground and couldn't move very much at all.
Serenity took a few minutes to recover her mana and energy. "I just need a minute to get the spell ready again." she said replying to both Keenan and Max. She was pretty strong for a mage but with her added strength as a warrior she was deadly. She watched in both surprise and horror as the dragon lifted her friend and heard his screams something snapped inside her. She would not let this beast take him for a second time. She started casting a second spell, dropping her swords and rushing at the dragon as its back turned to her once again as if it were trying to escape but she was just distracted with the others. This was the opportunity she needed. She ran up and grabbed the tail of the beast, struggled to climb up the beast's back and as it had Rashaan in it's jaws and about to devour the girl she cast her spell. Shooting her hands straight out and large spears of ice shot from her hands and pierced through the beast's back and through the heart and out its chest. It was a hard spell and it takes a lot of mana and concentration and energy. She gripped onto the dragon's scales as it fell to the ground with a very loud and hard thud and roar. She sat there on her knees on top of the beast with a bit of dragon blood splattered across her face and armor, panting from the usage.
The dragon now lay dead under her and she was relieved. She deeply sighed before standing up rather slowly so she would not stumble too badly and hop down so that she could check on her companions. All of them. She made her way to the dragon's mouth to see if perhaps the dragon had roared and let Rashaan go so that her wounds could be tended to. She was not a healer though. She had no clue about healing magic and was more offensive and defensive, not healing. She knew that a few of the others were hurt as well. Who knew how badly. "Venora, do you think you can heal everyone?" she asked a bit tiredly. She used up a lot of mana during this battle and that last spell was a dozy without a staff or sword to channel it properly but they weighed her down and she needed both hands free to grab hold of the beast.
Tasuki had been hurt pretty badly and strained to get up to his feet after the heavy drop and crushing of the dragon's claws. He saw where the dragon was heading and he could not just stand there and do nothing and be completely useless. He ran toward her and just as the dragon was about to crash he grabbed Vunora and pulled her away since she seemed completely frozen to her spot from fear and he would not let his helpless companion to be hurt if he could help it. He held Vunora in his arms as he watched Serenity climb down from the dragon's back, blood splattered across her face and pale blue armor. After a bit and he was sure that the dragon would not get up again he sighed and leaned back a little in relief.
Serenity moved to the dragon's jaws and did what she could to lift the beast's head so that its mouth would open and release Rashaan so that she could be saved and healed. "A little help....would be nice..." she said to anyone that was willing to grab the elf from the sharp jaws. After that she was exhausted so she found a house that remained standing and sat down by it and leaned back against the wall. "Well....one down....how many more to go? I'm tired. I think I'll take a little nap for a bit while others recover." she said mostly to herself and closed her eyes. She had to admit, this was a first. She had never slain a dragon before. She wished she didn't have to. It was a grand creature but way too dangerous to let live. Maybe the next one will be different.
Tasuki was surprised that Serenity had changed so much and just slew a high dragon. It was impressive. Now that the battle was over the people could return and rebuild what was lost. Maybe even make things better than they were before. Redcliff was resilient to say the least and surely this would not destroy them nor even really phase them. After everything they had been through, surely this would just be another small scar to give the land even more character than it already had.
((I'll actually have to leave sooner today, this was my last day to goof off so I'll put up a small post now.))
Keenan heard Vunora cry out and saw the dragon turn towards the sound. Panic gripped him as it locked its sights on the elven maid. With no armour and no time to put up a ward she would be killed for sure, but there was no way he would make it to her in time. He tried anyway, surging forward, clearing debris and flame in leaps. The dragon's head came down and...at the last minute Vunora was pushed out of the way, Rashaan instead taking the blow.
Keenan was struck with shock. He saw Tasuki fall from the dragon's claws, the huge ice spire cut through the dragon's chest and Tasuki, injured as he was, dragging Vunora out of the creature's shadow.
Keenan made it to them shortly after. He knelt by Tasuki and Vunora, checking to make sure their wounds weren't dire, then he went with a sinking heart to help Serenity.
Rashaan lay still and silent. Keenan helped the ice mage pry open the creature's jaws and gently lift her free. He checked for any remote sign of life...nothing. Keenan sat back and looked up at Serenity, shaking his head. Slowly he reached down and closed the woman's eyes.
His limbs felt heavy as he got to his feet again. Death was never an easy thing to face, he'd had plenty of experience to know it. His blue warden cloak had been torn off during the battle, this he found and covered Rashaan's body with it respectfully.
Serenity called for healing, he understood the worry but Vunora was in no shape. "Give her a moment, please," he called, feeling suddenly protective.
He knew he could do nothing to ease any pain, so he sat close by. Blue came up behind him, nudging Vunora's arm with a soft whine.
He took off his helmet and laid it down by him, looking out over the town to assess the damage that had been done. There were fires still burning but for the moment, they did not look out of control. The least they could say was that they had spared the town the full wrath of the dragon.
The beast was slain, and as Keenan's eyes fell on it he noticed the strange red glow. A small fragment lay on the ground beside him and he reached out slowly to touch it, only to have recognition slam into his mind like a hammer.
"Red lyrium." He said darkly.
Numerious Agorix
________
IMG_0287.JPG
After long battle waged in combat against the massive foe of fire and scales. Seeing one ally after another injured in one attack after another, feeling his body painfully cooling in the day's breeze as the sight of the Ambassador Raashan fall in battle in efforts to save another in Venora. It was a mixture of emotions, on one hand the beast finally fell to the ice mages unleash while the other told a tale of defeat by the loss of so many lives, homes crushed beneath the dragons weight, walls shattered in crumbles here and there, innocent lives fallen without much a chance to fight back.
While a elven ambassador fell in honorable fashion to save another. It was hard to see this as victory.... It was hard to say they had won when clearly it was only over and true victory was never possible to obtain. Much less would have been destroyed and the laying bodies of motionless form wouldn't be lined up for proper burial at sea or however Redcliffe handled such matters. Though this Tevinter mage was atleast glad it was over, no more shall the dragon harm another, No more shall lives be lost today in Redcliffe. It was now time for others to mourn and care for the dead.
It was time for rebuilding efforts to begin and for one mage to step aside before glances were shared. Redcliffe had a not so distant history with mages, more specifically Tevinter mages. Numerious hadn't the energy to face it and reason with so many should they still harbor resentment and hate for those of Tevinter.
Instead and not taking chance, Numerious thought it best to meet his horse outside the city gates and rest upon a rock. Recover his lost strength and see to his burns that only time and looking would tell of how far they reached. Taking his staff and giving a nod of well done and look of regret as the though she was a Qunari representative and likely opposed to his company. Numerious did share regret in the inability to prevent such a death and the not so sweet sorrow of loss.
Taking his staff and walking toward the gates, passing through them as others celebrated and perhaps helped or whatever they might choose. Numerious elected to await outside the city atop a rock and with his sweet horse, a green dales feral that was more like family to him then his own flesh and blood and species even. It was perhaps odd a name he had given and called her, but it was the first one she ever responded too and it was not even meant for such a call. Just a mention of it through conversation as he cared for her mane and settled her nerves within her own new stable when they first came together after her purchase from a man who sold horses and mounts from all over the world and had a stable outside of his city of Marnus Pell.
But alas that was another tale and one unimportant now. Rashaan lay dead and many left injured after the battle, others were gathered around Venora and the fallen Rashaan. Meanwhile Numerious sat outside the gates with his horse resting beside his presence. He was checking his wounds and though it was more proper to be with the others in the city, he just didn't have the energy to experience the various reactions the people of Redcliffe might have for a Tevinter mage. Much less try to reason with them or other methods, instead restin himself nearby but out of view.
Everyone's voice sounded distant as a sharp ringing dominated her ears. Ashara. They hadn't been close, not really, but they were family. It didn't matter if you were close to your cousin or sibling, watching family die always shook someone to the core. Even if that family was no more than a stranger to you now.
" There was so much I wanted to ask her." Vunora whispered as she sat between Keenan and Tasuki.
It came out more like a whimper first, before the choked sob. Her head dropped, black curls tumbling around her like her own mourning drapes. She didn't even hear what Kenaan said as she cried into her palms. A minute, two, four, she sat there and cried and let the world spin around her. It was only when Blue poked her way inside of the curtain that she looked up with a sniffle. " Hey BlueBell." She whispered to her. " You did good girl." Kissing her on the nose, she pressed their foreheads together for a second. It was what she would have done with another clansman during a time like this.
Max hadn't known what happened until he had slid from the crashing back of the dragon and spotted Kenaan prying an elf from the jaws of the dragon with Serenity as Vunora was being led away by Tasuki. " What happened." The moment he was informed he sighed. The poor thing. But he was accustomed to death, it surrounded his life and he had grown all but numb to it. As much as he wanted to feel for Vunora, he couldn't he had to keep moving forward. He left her to mourn but got busy establishing order amongst the others.
They would come back later and send of Rashaan in a Quinari tradition, but for now there was still work to be done. Thankfully, not many within the city had been affected but there were those closer to the walls whose homes were crushed or caught fire. Some were injured, a few had died, but all in all the city suffered more property damage than anything else thanks to the poor performance of the dragon prior arrival.
Walking over to Vunora he bent down before her. " I know this is hard for you, but we need you right now. You're our only healer."
Sniffling the elf nodded and pulled her hair back into a bun. " She didn't die so I could sit around." Standing she thanked Tasuki for his help, then she looked to Kenaan and offered a weak smile. It was all she could give him at the moment for his kindness.
Just as well because Max quickly was approaching him. " Ser Warden, I want to hear more about what you just said. But later." There was no need to panic the civilians who were now arriving to see the dragon.
Ayen watched as the dragon grabbed the templar, ready to be eaten. As he prepared another spell Vunora called out, grabbing the dragon's attention. The beast threw the templar to the ground and aimed itself at Vunora but someone had jumped bravely in front of her. He could hear the snap of her bones as the dragon crunched down into her body. Before the dragon could devour the body the ice mage gave the final blow.
The dragon came crashing down into the ground. The life slowly drained from the creatures eyes. He watched patiently as everyone gathered around Vunora. Ayen decided to give her some space, to grieve. As she grieved he knelt down to the ground and whispered "Falon’Din enasal enaste". It was a simple prayer for the dead and it would do for now. Hopefully she would be reunited with her family soon.
Overall this had been a successful fight in his opinion. Some civilians were lost and even a teammate had perished but the majority of the village had been saved. They had managed to defeat the dragon before she caused more damage to the village. The fight had brought him back to his Warden days. Now he would be reliving them, but with a much bigger and diverse team.
Soon the Inquisitor was speaking with Vunora. She managed to pull herself together and stand up. Ayen approached her. "Abelas Falon" he said. He looked at the Inquisitor, wondering what they were going to do now. He hoped they would go back to Skyhold and rest. Most likely they would continue to travel into the wilderness, looking for more dragons to kill.
SERENITY/TASUKI
Serenity sat completely drained of mana and energy against the wall of the standing house. She may have been exhausted but she could still hear and very well. Upon hearing that Rashaan didn't draw breath anymore and was no longer living she shut her eyes and banged the back of her head against the hard wood of the wall and grit her teeth, cursing herself under her breath. She cursed herself, the maker, any dieties that could have caused or started all this and she cursed the dragon. The Ferelden Frostback was powerful but how dare it take the life of a trusted ally and comrade. She knew that there was something she could have done to stop it. Something, but it was too late to change it. With the damage done she took a deep breath and begged Rashaan's spirit for forgiveness quietly. "I'm sorry, Rashaan....I'm so sorry....If I had been faster....I could have....I should have....I'm sorry.....forgive me....I failed you....I should have used that spell in the first place....I'm so sorry...." Her voice was quiet and remorseful.
z8.jpg
Tasuki's entire body ached and thrummed with pain as his armor was nearly crushed around him within the dragon's claws. He nearly lost his life there but was traded for Rashaan's instead. He felt horrible for being so weak and all he could do was try to offer the elven girl some comfort by giving her his arm and shoulder to hold onto. He could not imagine her suffering at this moment. He didn't think he'd be able to bear it. The sorrow of losing someone from your past and practically grew up with. He had no idea the pain she was going through and honestly, he knew he was being selfish and not wishing to ever feel it. The only thing the Templar could say softly was, "I'm sorry, Vunora. I hope she finds peace now." he then slowly picked himself up from kneeling on the ground to try and assess his own wounds after offering a prayer for Rashaan, so that, no matter what religion she may have had, she would find peace in the next life. He felt his sides ache and knew that he had a couple of broken ribs and a broken color bone and possibly a dislocated shoulder, nothing that couldn't be taken care of and wouldn't heal over time but they didn't have that time. He went over to see if Serenity was alright and she just seemed tired. A bit of her torn cape wrapped around her bleeding leg to stop the bleeding but otherwise not too badly hurt. He left her alone as he heard her cursing and knew that now would not be a time for him particularly to try and talk to her.
Serenity's amethyst eyes opened as she heard voices and footsteps of villagers that wanted to see the dragon dead. They were curious and scared and that was understandable but still. She hoped they would show some restraint and respect for a little while as they lost one of their own and he villagers lost some of their people. Loved ones that could not be replaced. Hearing Keenan ask that she give Vunora a moment to grieve earlier made her remain quiet and just rest where she sat. Honestly, she wouldn't mind terribly a bit of help to stand up. She was already bleeding through her make-shift bandage. Armor protected most of her but she still had vulnerable spots and that damn flaming cart got her in a spot the armor didn't protect as much as she would have liked but she needed more movement so it was bound to happen. As the voices of the villagers got closer, "And here come the spectators to give us criticism of the battle. Yay." she said sarcastically with a sigh.
Keenan smile back faintly, admiring her strength at rising so soon to do what needed to be done. It was inspiring. He rose as well, preparing himself to go help the townsfolk. On his way he overheard Serenity. His brow furrowed and he stepped over, taking her shoulder gently.
"Hey, hey. You cannot blame yourself, all right? You must not. Guilt for things beyond your control is slippery slope...and it leads to nowhere good." His voice carried the weight of experience. "Rashaan made a choice, so take comfort in the fact. She was brave, and we will honor her sacrifice, as she would want."
After tending to Serenity Keenan took Blue out beyond the gates, he removed her armour and bade her fetch the rest of the mounts, wherever they had roamed.
He waited for her by Numerious and his own steed and felt a bit like an intruder. The battle had taken a toll on everyone it seemed, physical and emotional.
"Why is your horse called that?" He asked, the first question he could think of that would take them away from the battle. He knew Numerious cared a great deal for the steed, he'd often seem him tending the mare. It was a trait he did not associate with most of the well-born and that intrigued him, much like the Tevinter's reaction to Blue.
After hearing the answer he added, "you can walk back with me if you like, if anyone even looks at you funny I'll have a word with them...of course, if you'd like to help me put out a few fires, I'm sure you'll earn some more grateful eyes."
Keenan couldn't deny that the job would go infinitely faster with the power of a mage behind it, however he also knew the people here, and he was confident Numerious would be welcomed-- Tevinter heritage and all-- if they saw him help.
It was then Blue returned, the horses and hart trotting diligently before her. He took a moment to gather their reins and began to lead them slowly back into the town and to their riders.
Another victory but with a costly price to pay. Another death, another sacrifice as the Dalish mage Rashaan passed away after the battle. Sandro himself had already got used to the sight of dead soldier on the battle. Back in Antiva, on many operation again the Crow, he witnessed many of his comrades killed in one of the most terrifying ways ever known. Yet death is different from many other experience, as many that you've seen in your life, it doesn't make it any better than the last time.
But despite of all the hurtful feeling of seeing a falling comrade, Sandro knew too well that he had many things to do. He walked toward Rashaan's body, where many of his companions were to weep for her. She was so young, an amazing magic fighter and surely a willy character if Sandro had more chance to know her... It's useless to have such thoughts now.
They traveled back to Redcliff to rest and heal their injury, welcomed by the chant of the citizens inside. Sandro himself never liked the crowd as he had always been a man who work behind the curtain, unlike the Inquisitor. Ignored the crowd, he reached Vunora, who was just spending more time over with Rashaan.
"- I am very sorry, Vunora." - Sandro spoke slowly in his low Antivan accent - "I think since you're her only relation. You should bring her body back to your clan ?"
Despite how it may look Numerious took to his horse outside the gates, minded himself and seen to his burns the best he could manage. Though truthfully healing magic wasn't his scene, he was your blend of necromancy, elemental magic with lightning and fire with limited earth based and the school of spirit with wards and barriers mostly. But simple treatments he might know a few tricks, nothing magical but common herbs and non magic related healing tricks.
But aside from that he saw to his horse... easing her nerves from the dragon and chaos, treating her mane after caring for his injuries lightly. Before long a familiar voice spoke on approach toward him. 'Why is your horse called that?' The voice asked causing a amused smile and soft shake of his head in intial response.
"It's all she would respond to when we first came together. It was mere accident through trying to talk with her..... I simply asked her to give me a chance, called her my sweet.... Suddenly she turned her head and came to me. Thus I call her My Sweet." Numerious answered in kind it was a funny tale to the Tevinter mage. He never intended to call her by that name, merely a try to reason with the horse nicely. He never knew what he might have called her but the stubborn feral chose her own name and there by making the decision for him.
He then looked between his horse and back toward Keenan. Giving a thought over the idea of heading back into the city. Truthfully the idea was curious, Redcliffe held grudges like others, no? It wasn't long since the ordeal Corypheus caused and what certain Tevinters took part in. He hadn't the energy to chance some comments and responding with reason was not always done well nor was responding with the same attitude. The latter would only fuel the fire and get no where good in foreign lands.
Numerious smiled gently at themoffer and what Keenan said. Though it raised the question of 'Was it gratefulness or the repaying of another's debt?' The idea was necessary either way he supposed. If the path forward meant starting here then Numerious would see it done.
"It's a kind offer Keenan. But I can manage through potential comments, it's part of things I suppose. Thick skin and experience. Anyways if another pair of hands would help, I can pull away from burns and My sweet here."
Numerious replied then noticing Blue come forward with the mounts. A renewed smile at the sight of her with the mounts with her going into the city. While he rose from his position prepared to head into the city with Keenan and his horse.
" Thank you, Keenan." Vunora said with a tired sincerity in her voice. She was thankful that she had so much support and love surrounding her from those who were hardly more than strangers, but were becoming quick friends despite their differences they were able to put them aside for the cause. There was no better example she could think of than when she watched Keenan excuse himself from her company to go speak with the Tivinter Magister sitting on the cusp of the action. It made her feel just a tiny bit better, despite the numbness.
Soon another Dalish arrived and greeted her in her own tongue. This was a cause for true excitement and she even mustered a small smile for him. It wasn't the normal reception he would have got from her had he arrived at any other time, that would have been overflowing with enthusiasm. "Ma serannas, as lam ara asa'var'lin. Nuvenan ma son?"
Alessandro had approached while she spoke Elvhen and her accent clung for a moment when she had to shift over so quickly, but it was no problem. Actually, she found great comfort in the arrival of the man as she always found his presence to be a very calm one. " I appreciate it Sandros, truly, but...she was with the Quin. It's not what I would like to do, but a burial under the Quin is what she would want...once I learn how such a thing is done, that is."
Max looked over at the crowd and sighed someone needed to say something. As much as he loathed it, this always fell to him. So he found purchase on a large rock from which he made his public address. He informed everyone who they were, and of their mission before addressing the conflict. " Today many of us have felt loss, even we mourn one of our own fallen in battle, but the work is not over yet. Behind you in the city, men and women still fight flames or have already begun the process of healing their scarred home. You must stand strong around your neighbors, and tonight when the fires have died and there is no more daylight to work when, then we will celebrate. For the dragon can plague you no more!" With a fist to his chest, he saluted the people before climbing down and sighing. Rubbing a hand over his short hair, happy to be freed of his helmet. At least addressing his own would be easier.
" Inquisition! Those of you who are not still recovering and wish to volunteer yourself, let us make our way into the city and help where we can. For the rest of you, take your time and rest." He knew Vunora should really have been healing rather than chatting, but he did not have the heart- or lack of- to ask her to do so. None of those in their party were mortally wounded, and those who had suffered wounds could afford to rest and wait a moment until the Dalish got her bearings. Nodding to his representatives, he then turned and began making his way into the city.
||Evelyn Faux||
How terrible it is to love something that death can touch.
Evelyn’s eyes widened as she saw the golden beast turn it’s head to clamp it’s jaws around her; razor-edged teeth, glinting in the light - what would be assumed the last sight the young Dalish would see. Blood spattered across the ground, just inches away from the Bard’s heels. Though the blood had not belonged to Vunora. A cry of anguish left her lung, piercing the awestruck silence that had befell the group as they watched Ashara hang limply from the Frostback’s teeth. Evelyn had to admit, even in that moment - she couldn’t move. Had it not been for Serenity’s magic, she wasn’t sure how many more of them would have made it.
It had all happened so fast.
The aftermath was not that of what was to be expected. The townspeople of Redcliffe began to slowly creep from out of their shelters, eyes falling upon the dragon that had caused them so much heart ache. One could feel the tension that was lifted as one by one, whispers began to bustle; looking for loved ones.
Evelyn’s heart ached for Vunora.
The Orlesian maiden found herself tending to the villagers. Not far behind Max as he made his way into the village. Looking for those who were deemed lost in the rubble, to reunite them with the loved ones. She insisted that the rest of the group be tended to before herself. She could manage on her own for the time being. Besides, the image of Ashara was still fresh in her mind.
In her line of work, something as such wouldn’t phase her. Blood and a life usually came with the position. She too believed even one day she would fall victim to the same fate. However, it was in instance of seeing another throw away their concern for their own well being for another. Such selflessness - it was a rare gem. Many claimed to have it, but when truly put to the odds, selfishness will overpower that drive. Those, like Ashara, are what a true hero was. And like the best kind - would not be able to see their heroism played out. There were no words to describe the admiration that whelmed the songstress.
Such traits made Evelyn rather envious.
Though they were able to save most of the town’s structure, there was still quite a bit of damage dealt. It would take months to clean up and rebuild. Of course, that would be after their mourning. Evelyn stood on the docks staring out across the lake hearing the gentle ripples cast against it. With the stillness, it was almost hard to believe a dragon had been slain just hours ago. Her eyes glided over to the boats where the bodies of the deceased had been laid and covered. Bodies that she’d help move. Bodies she’d watched other’s sob over. Bodies that just hours ago were so full of life and courage as they tried to take on the Frostback only to be charred in that liveliness. In the morning the would send them off;
“Oh deary.” an elderly voice cooed from behind, catching Evelyn’s attention. “You were one of the warriors from earlier?” Before she had time to answer, the woman continued, “I’d like to thank you. Not many people would have done what you and your friends did. In fact, most of us wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you all.”
Her words were kind, but they rang empty to the blonde female. Evelyn forced a delicate smile, allowing the woman to take her hand in hers, “We’ve arranged for you all to stay at the Chantry when you’re tired - We insist of course. Maker knows you all deserve a good night’s rest.” Her frail hand gently patted the top of Evelyn’s. A small part of her hoped Max would take up the town’s offer, but she’d hardly felt deserving of it. With another careful shake, the woman’s eyes seemed to sparkle with an unknown appreciation to the rouge.
Speechless.
There was a genuine kindness that Evelyn couldn’t process; let alone return. Her eyes followed the elderly woman as she made her way back up to the Chantry. There was no way she was getting any sleep tonight. Maybe a brisk walk would help calm her nerves. Her mind flashed to Vunora once more;
For there was a different bravery that came with grief.
The Orlesian couldn’t bring herself to face the group - much like Serenity, she felt a pang of guilt. Had she been better equipped, or even faster; maybe - just maybe - they wouldn’t be burying one of their own. Her heels clicked against the docks as she made her way back into the town, where people were dousing their homes and land in water to extinguish the remaining fire.
The town’s people clamored; rumors beginning to spread like wildfire. The dragon’s attack had them roused, but it was something that caught Evelyn’s attention at the mention of ‘Red Lyrium’. Something she would brush off as superstition after such chaos. The attack likely brought them back to Corypheus. Though, she’d thought she did hear Keenan say something about such a thing. She’d hoped there was no cause for alarm - but should something as powerful as ‘Red Lyrium’ be involved, the problems with the dragons could be more dire than thought originally.
Evelyn continued to through the town in search of Fiona. Her mind elsewhere as she aimlessly walked;
Keenan nodded at the tale. "Its funny, some animals just have that sort of stubborn streak," here he glanced critically at his dog.
"
You're surprising Numerious," he said thoughtfully. "Not a thing like any Magister I've met, and to answer your next question, yes, my sampling does extend beyond Venatori."
He regarded the mage sadly when he resigned himself to the inevitable judgement of the people. "
It doesn't have to be 'part of things' if you have the will to change it." The sentiment was idealistic, but Keenan believed it nonetheless. "If the wardens had just accepted their disgrace they'd likely be all still at Weisshaupt...and I wouldn't be here."
The warden took a moment to consider Numerious' injuries carefully before reaching into his horse's saddlebag and removing a small wooden container. He handed this to him with a slightly sheepish expression, "
I will not claim any proficiency at healing, but I found fireleaf along the way from Skyhold, and my mother taught me how to make a salve of it that soothes burns. Its lumpy, and I think I used too much water, but it will help, at least until Vunora has time and strength to heal you properly."
As they made their way back into Redcliffe Keenan spotted Evelyn walking on her own.
"
Lady Faux." He addressed her courteously, and held up the reins of her Fiona. "Shall I stable her with the others for you?"
Wardens--it may have come as a surprise to some--were not just good at killing darkspawn, they were also good at the relief efforts that were needed after an attack. After the inquisitor's rallying speech Keenan gathered a group of the villagers and anyone in their party that wanted to work with him and taught them how to pull down burning rooftops and soak standing structures properly to prevent the fires from spreading. He taught them how to make levers to lift debris and rescue people without causing a collapse that would do more damage. Any magic users at his disposal he directed efficiently so they had the most impact for the least amount of mana spent. He dressed wounds and persuaded the least affected to part with blankets, food and other supplies. He joked with the youngsters, and, trying to lift their spirits he made them 'honorary wardens' through the majority of the work.
For the more somber task of laying out the dead he was silent and careful, a symbol of strength for those who had lost it, gazing down at the faces of loved ones. For all the work he had done he was want to neglect his own needs. He fed Blue and made sure the mounts were stabled and watered, but went straight back out after that.
Ayen could tell she enjoyed talking in her native tongue. He was enjoying it too, since it had been a couple years since he spoke it. He was pleased that he managed to make her smile briefly. Before he could reply a human male approached her, offering his condolences and inquiring about the body. He was surprised to hear that the Qun had sent an elf as their ambassador. Of course his knowledge of the Qun was limited so he wouldn't question why they picked her.
"Vin Ir abelas tas mas ma serannas." Ayen replied. Then he switched to human tongue. "I am Ayen, I represent the Circle of Magi." he introduced and slightly bowed. It was a habit to bow as a sign of respect. He offered a small smile to the both of them. His attention was half drawn to their Inquisitor who was giving a speech to the villagers. Urging them to either rest or to join them back at Skyhold.
Some of the members of their group were heading into the city. He decided now would be a good time to check on his horse and then check on the village. The last thing Ayen wanted the Inquisitor to think was that he was lazy or not helpful. "I should see if the villagers need any help. Please excuse me." Ayen explained and headed into the village.
He noticed a fellow Warden helping with relief efforts. Ayen simply followed the orders he was given. He helped put out the flames and with the heavy lifting. The moral of the village seemed to rise with the Grey Warden and the Inquisitor around. After the warden returned Ayen decided now would be a good time to introduce himself."We have not had the chance to meet. I am Ayen, I am the ambassador for the Circle of Magi." Ayen introduced and offered his hand.
Serenity only sat there and scorned herself for a little while until Keenan came to talk to her and told her not to blame herself as it was not her fault nor could she really have done more but it still did not ease her heart. She nodded her head a little and let the warden leave. Now she was alone again and slowly recovering what energy and mana she could for the time being. After a little while she got up from the wall and treated her leg wound a bit before she moved and began to help with the relief effort after removing her full armor and got down to her traveling clothes for more free movement.and less weight to pull and slow her down. Some of the villagers were a bit weary of her and for good reason. She took down a dragon with powerful magic, so she was definitely dangerous and she was tired on top of that and she was still young so she was a bit more susceptible to emotions and lack experience that other aged mages did. She did what she could where she could and pushed herself quite a bit. She would fall asleep easily tonight but it was certainly not going to be a peaceful slumber. She tended wounds where she could until Vunora could get to them, help to respectfully prepare the dead and helped put out the fires with her ice magic as well as helping to rebuild to a point the people could attempt to get the homes back running within a day or so. She kept working till the sun went down and even then she didn't really stop. She would run herself ragged if she was not stopped.
z8.jpg
Though Tasuki was in pain and could hardly move his arms properly he got up and started to work with the people as best as he could. He ignored his injuries and helped out where he could as a strong arm and offered prayers when he was asked. He wasn't much of a complainer but still, this was a bit of a drag and he was hurting pretty badly so he was not going to be able to keep going through it like Serenity was doing. She was going to get herself killed if she kept going like this but he knew she would not listen to him, especially not now. He had to ask someone to keep her from pushing herself too hard. He knew his own limits and how far he could push beyond them to get stronger but Serenity just didn't know when to stop. Her youth made her a bit blind to that. He had trouble with his arm and breathing a bit but he knew he would be fine once Vunora had a chance to see him. If she was able to help him then he could help the people a bit more and easier. He wasn't much good if he wasn't able to use his body at its fullest.
Max greeted the mage, returning his handshake and introducing himself in turn. " Glad to have you aboard, you showed up at a most fortuitous time for us." There was not a great deal more conversation than that, they didn't have the time to chatter. Max busied himself establishing a line of buckets of water from the bay up to the burning buildings. Other times he was helping to haul rubble or instruct the citizens on how best to re-organize. It seemed he was still their Inquisitor, even if that didn't mean the same thing as it used to.
Vunora knew she could not mope forever. So she allowed herself to speak with Alessandro for only a few moments more after the Circle mage had left their company. Then she went about hunting down those of her team that had been injured, as well as any citizens. There had been far more injuries than casualties, thankfully, and she was happy to help as much as she could. Sometimes it was not in the manner of healing, but also instructing others how to treat their own wounds so that she was not spread so thin. In the city there were only two other healers, as Redcliffe would be little more than a large village if not for the keep. She was certainly thankful when
It was wonderful seeing everyone working together like this. Like one big clan.
That night they bunkered down inside of the Chantry with those who had lost their homes during the fight or were injured and could not fit within the walls of the healer's room. The Inquisition were allowed one of the prayer rooms to set up their cots in, at least it would be warmer and drier than sleeping under the stars. With far fewer bugs.
Vunora had taken to sitting amongst the children who had been fascinated by the elf as if she were a living legend. Many had never seen a Dalish before, only whimsical tales that either painted them as savages or sprites. Instead here was one before them, and she was singing.
Max had removed his armor and was now wearing only a pair of trousers as he sewed over the holes in his clothing. He was fortunate to have suffered no punctures in his armor, but not everyone in his crew had been. Those with damage would just have to go without armor until they made it back to Skyhold. He would not bother the local smithy. He looked around at his different representatives, all busy with their respective things and he found his gave on Alessandro. " Sandro." He called with a friendly smile, motioning him over. " Tell me, is this more or less exciting than your work as a spymaster?"
"Where would we be without our stubborn animals...." He chuckled as Keenan looked toward Bell as he commented in reply to Numerious's tale. But this was not where shock of small proportions took place but instead followed with the next comment. 'You're surprising Numerious,' The words could be rather positive he imagined as compared to other high born mages and folks, the Tevinter could be surprising perhaps or had it to do with his Tevinter blood?
"Oh? I could expect worse things. But in how do you mean?" The man replied with a short smile before listening to Keenan continue with what he meant. "Ah I see. You've met another Magister in your time and beyond those radicals? Either way I'll take it as another compliment. Magisters tend to have certain reputations that extends back through a thousand year history. I'd gladly be different then what you may have experienced or thought about other Magisters. A different point of view perhaps." The mage continued
Next came the ideals of the warden. A kind and honorable set of ideals, it was true you hadn't need to let it be part of things as it were. Though in some cases a long history and continued aura about a nation was much to contend with, it dictated how one must act politically and publicly outside of Tevinter. Guarded but open enough to appear worthy of trust and alliance. Or in other cases simply to prevent a unnecessary scene.
"But does one 'will' have enough time to change it?" Numerious countered simply to remind and perhaps let know, it was not his will that lacked but time and opposite minds that stood in his way. He was but thirty and one years old.... A single mage, a Magister from Tevinter and Tevinter had a long and storied history mostly filled with slavery, blood magic, Andraste and the black city itself. Quite the history one must contend with if they wish to be successful in one nations transformation and goal to reform Tevinter with his own visions for it and his ideals. "True. I've survived Tevinter politics for some years now, fought my own flesh and blood to simply reach this point, withstood more comments of judgmental people and at times hateful, spiteful of men and women then I'd care to count. It's not my will Sir Keenan, it's time and much history to which I must contend. My road is far from reaching the end I wish to achieve..... The wardens have not accepted their disgraced moments to guide them and set their ways. Nor have I..... But I'm just a man, a single Magister looking to make great moves and fought to where I stand now. Literally. I've no intentions to give up , but even the strongest of patience tires and grow weak without rest. I pace myself at times to prevent a temper to rise within me, that'll undo everything I've worked to achieve up until this point with a single action and loss of control." He explained though perhaps his timing of retreat to isolation from villagers was poor. But it was a moment of tired state and decision he felt best at the time. Perhaps too strong and unfair a prediction of how others might act. But Redcliffe was caught within a terrible situation at the hands of another Magister.
"But I see your point, Keenan. Perhaps my timing was poor and assumption based off recent history unfair. Hardly better then those I'd oppose, no?" Numerious agreed. Before rising to a full stand and straightened his posture in a stretching manner. While his eyes moved toward a small container handed to him by Keenan. "Fireleaf? It appears either way your prepared for anything, Sir Keenan. My thanks.. Your mother must have been a wise woman. Salves are no easy task as far as I'm aware." He nodded before following Keenan inside the village.
From there he placed the salve away for safe keeping as the man entered the village and would begin working with others to repair the village. He used his magic to move larger sections with more ease then physically lifting. Saving time and expelling effort carefully to help the village and move things along without too much strain.
Meanwhile he spent the time quietly and continually working. Until the time came for the chantry rest, using the night to enter the chantry along with the others moving inside the prayer room, taking a view advantageous but furtherest from the doors. A corner spot near the back of the room.
He was without his robes that a elder woman kindly offered to repair. She took them from his hands and left to have them repaired leaving Numerious with only his trousers, socks and boots. He took the time to read a old book he found, while listening to others from afar.
||Evelyn Faux||
The Orlesian’s attention was captured when she heard the Warden calling to her. At the gate, her aquamarine gaze glanced up to the voices ahead of her. Quickly she cast away her distracted facade and flashed a small smile in the direction of Keenan and Numerious. At the Warden’s gesture Evelyn shook her head, “No, that’s alright. I thank you for retrieving her for me.” she took the reins from his grip, “I was actually thinking about heading out to look for some herbs. With only two healers in the town, we don’t want them exhausting themselves. I’ll be back before nightfall.” she assured the two as she mounted Fiona. To which she nudged Keenan gratitude.
Pulling her reins back, she kicked her heels gently into Fiona’s side. She scoured the hill’s bases and around any large rock formations. Evelyn delved in poisons - not exactly what she was looking for, though she was running low on stock, but had an extended knowledge of said potions and tonics to counteract those poisons. As well as herbs for injuries and ailments.
‘Elfroot seemed to be plentiful out here.’ she thought thankfully. Coming to an opening, Evelyn dismounted Fiona, seeing several of the plants she was in search of bundled together. Plucking the stems from the earth, she packed them away in her satchel. Making sure to collect more than enough. “Probably wouldn’t hurt to find some Embrium for Vunora and Serenity, hm?” she spoke out loud, thinking more to herself than anything, but Fiona whinnied happily at her suggestion. “Of course.” Evelyn giggled at her mare’s vigor.
Once collecting what she’d hoped was enough, Evelyn made her way back to Redcliffe. The sun had begun to fully set and soon the nightfall would set in. Even in the distance, one could see the heat that embers that still faintly flickered around the dragon's remains, sizzling as they bounced into the shaves of ice.
Taking Fiona to the stables, she dismounted her once more, and lead her into her stall making sure to grab her extra bag. Doing so without hassle, she plopped down with a thud. Evelyn rolled her eyes, “You’re being dramatic.” The horse merely shaking her head as if she could understand her rider, snorting in the Bard’s direction. Stick her hand out, Fiona patted her snout against her palm, “I’ll see you in the morning - do not go sneaking out...Again.” And again the horse retorted with a sassy snort.
Sitting outside of the Chantry, Evelyn began to make the healing tonics. It would only work short term but hopefully, would alleviate the pain for long enough to get a good night’s rest. Pulling several small vials from her bag, she poured in the liquid. Giving them a little shake as she did so. It was then a familiar red-haired fire eater caught her attention; looking a little worse for wear. Standing to her feet, she approached the former Templar;
“Tasuki!” she called out to him, “Here. It will help - I hope.” a coy smile formed on her lips as she extended the small flask to him. However, his attention seemed to be focused elsewhere. Following his wandering eye, she noticed Serenity at the other end of his gaze. Feeling his concern, she handed him another vial - one containing a mana regeneration potion. She quickly turned on her heels, clasping her hands together behind her back as she made her way into the Chantry.
Stripping herself of her armor, she changed into her more casual attire from her bag. Oh, what she wouldn’t give for a hot bath right now. Her body had ached, but she felt she could sleep it off. The Chantry sister had been eternally grateful as she handed over the potions. There, of course, were people who needed it more than she did.
The prayer room had been offered to them for refuge. It was small; quaint even; comfortably spacious. Evelyn’s gaze landed upon Vunora who sat among the village’s children, who in turn took a keen interest in her. She’d hoped it was a more pleasant turn of events as she listened to her sing what she assumed to be a Dalish lullaby.
It was beautiful, though sounded sorrowful.
With her bag over her shoulder and notebook in hand, she continued on her ways. Biting her lip as she did so. Expressing compassion was not a skill trained to Evelyn. Where she wished to give her condolences, she worried it would come off as feigned - as the part she is supposed to play - as the pawn she is. There was an innocence to Vunora that she’d wish not see squandered; not by her, nor anyone else. If anything, she reminded her of what she’d missed in herself growing up.
“Numerious,” Evelyn’s accent chimed as she looked down to the mage, “May I sit with you?” She’d suddenly found herself standing beside the Tevinter.
Numerious took to quiet rather often when it seemed easy. Something about travel quieted him at first leading to his moments of isolation and reading, meditation and wandering the fade with guarded but keen presence. A mage no matter the skill and power could unleash a demon but books were a pleasure in more leisured times. A story of adventure, history, romance and perhaps politics while quietly entertaining ones mind and soul as the time passed.
The salve helped ease his burns just as Keenan had told before. Allowing for more relaxed reading during the duration it lasted, while he sat in the corner and propped his one arm atop his knee that was raised and at eye level as he sat quietly in the corner.
Time seemed to escape him though as before long after undressing from his robes leaving him in trousers and socks, boots too. While his robes were being mended by a kind older lady who Numerious helped earlier in the day. But it seemed to pass without his notice whilst reading the old book, as a voice chimed reaching his ears from not so far away, as Venora sang to the children and others were scattered about the cozy little room.
"Numerious," He heard at first before he lowered his book to a near close and looked up toward the voice, seeing Evelyn standing beside him. Suddenly his silence of reading turned into a brightened but soft smile as he set the book near his staff. While meeting her eyes with his own giving a small nod and gesture to join him.
"Of course Evie..." Numerious began politely to respond. "I'd be delighted to share in your company. How was your ride into the hills? I recall herbs being your main goal." The Tevinter spoke asking after the Orlesian woman's pursuit of herbs.
||Evelyn Faux||
A relieved sigh brushed past Evelyn’s lips as she took a seat beside the Magister. Her legs crossed as she placed her notebook in her lap, “It was quiet. Hard to believe we were just fighting a dragon merely hours ago.” She rested her chin upon her knuckles, her elbows resting on her journal, “I just hope what I found was enough. Such things aren’t exactly - my specialty.” Her lips wryly pursed.
Her gaze hovered over in the direction of where the children lay. Slowly one by one, they began to fall asleep - soothed by Vunora’s voice. Evelyn found herself quietly humming along. It was lovely, far more so than any of the songs she was accustomed to. Bard’s had many songs - past tales and conquest, grief and sorrow, life and romance.There was a certain charm that Bards were held to. It was a part of the allure. With song, they were able to bring the words alive with melody.
“So, I guess that makes two dragons now?” she quipped with a whimsical smirk though it quickly fell as she continued, “Though, the cost leaves the victory feeling...empty?” her voice lingered as she searched for the right words. “I can say I’ve never seen anything like it.” Her glossed gaze turned to look at the brunette male, taking notice of the cinder marks that shone under an applied salve. She straightened her posture with her growing concern;
"How are your burns?"
SERENITY/TASUKI
For the majority of the day the group did their own thing and things went pretty smoothly. Tasuki got the medical attention he needed and was properly on his feet after a while but he was tired now and Serenity hadn't stopped to really give herself a break and time to heal. She didn't even let any of the healers see her, not even Vunora. When everything finally started winding down Serenity was finally able to rest and sit down to tend to her leg that had started to get infected. It would scar if she didn't tend to it soon. She figured now would be the best time. Tasuki was to busy making sure that other people were taken care of before he really settled down. Things were pretty quiet now but soon the hall was filled with song as Vunora began to sing. It was a lovely tune and almost haunting. It soothed the soul and made some lips curl into small smiles. Even the mage could not resist the urge to smile and even sing along as she had heard this song once before and added some harmony toward the end. Only a little though. She didn't want to interfere nor overpower, only to bring out the true beauty of the girl's voice.
Tasuki was busy trying to figure out how to hide his remaining aches and pains from the fight earlier as he had only been healed to the point he could move and would heal properly but the pain was not going to let him sleep. It wasn't until he heard the lovely Orlesian accent from Evelyn that he put on a big smile as if to hide his pain. When he was offered the potion he could not help but feel relieved and sighed happily. "Evelyn, you are a saint. Thanks so much for this, fair lady." he gave his best and most thankful smile and tone but when the Maiden gave him the blue potion he looked like he wanted to cry he was so thankful. "My lady, your kindness rivals that of Andraste. Thank you." he was a sweet young man and very earnest and grateful for any help he was given. Though he was ten years younger than her he still recognized her beauty both outside and in even if she had been trained in the game plaid in Orlay. He smiled as she left him there to drink the potion and now he only had to get the blue one to Serenity without ticking her off. That may prove to be a challenge. After everything he went into the chantry and got ready for a good night's rest that he really needed. He left the blue potion where Serenity's cot had been set up and a small note explaining who gave it to him and an apology for something he had no idea the reason.
Serenity's amethyst eyes glanced over where the lovely elven song was being sung and smiled a little as it lifted her mood. She loved music and it just happened to be one of her hidden talents. She can play certain instroments and had a lovely voice of her own. She didn't feel like taking the spotlight and instead all she did was add harmony to Vunora's song to give it a final polish toward the end. She had heard the song once before and remembered how the melody and harmony intermingled and enhanced the beauty of the melody. She had to admit, the way Vunora held up and was in such spirits that she could sing for the little ones amazed her. However she didn't want to be found out and just kept her back turned and her voice low enough that it would only slightly echo in the temple and make the melody more pronounced and keep her hidden as the second singer. After the song she smiled a little to herself as she made her way to her cot and found the mana potion and the note attatched. She drank it and it allowed her to recover a bit faster and she could do a lot more now. She was thankful to Evalyn for the gift and now she could relax herself. She carefully unbraided her long golden hair to brush and maintain the long locks of silken thread that sprouted from her head. She had never once cut it and to her it seemed that the longer and stronger it grew the more confidence she had and eventually it became a useful tool when she needed it. For now though it was time to brush and clean the long tussles of hair. She started a song of her own. A melody she had written herself when she was appointed as ambassador for Rivain by her father's order.
"The stars are very beautiful above the palace walls,
they shine with equal splendor still above far humbler halls.
I watch them from my window but their bright enchanting glow,
reminds me of the freedom I gave up so long ago.
The royal circlet of bright gold rests lightly on my brow,
I once thought only of the rights this circlet would endow.
But once I took the crown to witch I had been schooled and bred,
I found it heavy on the heart though light upon the head.
Although I am the head of state in truth I am the least.
A true queen knows her people fed before she sits to feast.
The good queen knows her people safe before she takes her rest,
Thinks twice and thrice and yet again before she makes requests.
For they are all my children, all, that I swore to defend.
It is my duty to become both queen and trusted friend.
And of my children, high and low, from beggar to above,
the dearest are my heralds who return my care with love.
The dearest are my heralds swift to spring to my command.
Who give me aid and fellowship, who always understand,
That land and people first have needs that I may not deny.
So I must send my dearest friends to danger and to die.
A friend, a love, a child, it matters not, I know indeed.
That I must sacrifice them all if there should be the need.
They know and they forgive me, doing more than I require.
With willing minds and loving hearts fall straight go grasp the fire.
These tears that burn my eyes are all the tears the queen can't shed.
The tears I weep in silence as I mourn my heralds dead.
Oh gods that dwell beyond the stars, if you can hear my cry,
And if you have compassion....let me send no more to die...."
Numerious Agorix
________
There was a seemingly relieved look about her expression. It was in the lips for a brief moment as Numerious kept watchful in attentive gaze toward Evelyn. Nothing odd just mindful attention as they spoke and she sat crossing her leg and setting her notebook atop her lap. "The passing of time never surprises, but always reveals new beginnings..." He softly phrased in reply to the pale blonde lady next to him. "A quiet ride in the evenings setting, the breeze brushing against you..." The mage continued but soon cut himself off realizing he was starting to ramble one and envision the scene playing before him. One of luxuries he often missed but also often did himself. "But I see my thoughts are caught onto a single topic... I recall herbs could spread to numerous quantities of salves without the same number of herbs required to make them. It's not my area of expertise either, though I reckon your efforts were more then plenty, Evie. The people will appreciate surely..."
He soon paused to listen to that which Evelyn took her gaze toward. He noticed the children drifting off one by one to the sounds of Venoras lullaby, while thinking he could hear another softly humming, giving a soft smile in turn and nodding along to the tune. Only returning his attention upon the hearing of Evelyn's voice and witty sound of her words.
"Yes, I suppose so..." He nodded with a small smile, recalling the first dragon he encountered and spoke of the other night to the fair woman next to him. "I'm not sure if victory such as ours..... Ever comes with a true sense of it. It seems like only the greater good after the meeting of a terrible evil and all it brought before a timely intervention." Numerious added feeling a sense of regret for his lack of success against the fearsome beast. Not a single use to prevent such loss. He too began to linger a bit before hearing Evie speak. "A hollow feeling... Victory without harm, the true quest of those adventurous and willing. Innocents needn't be caught in the middle.." His mind wandered aloud before softly offering apology for his Ramble. "A dragon? They are treasured by some. But their beauty though Marveled is often met with its power and anger.... A sight few can say they have seen. Least while living to tell of it, Rashaan's sacrifice was heroic and noble. I shan't forget it."
Before he could say any more his eyes met hers and gave him pause, her posture straightened and he could gather she noticed his burns underneath the salve. Numerious gave a soft nod of reassurance with a gentle smile and closed eye, slowly sitting up a bit and lowering his raised knee. "It's hot, uncomfortable in truth.... But I'm okay. Thanks! The salve Keenan offered me was useful in lowering the pain. Now it's more like a remnants of a sunburn, perhaps?" He assured aiming to ease any concern for him. "What of you? You weren't hurt during the battle or anything of the kind?" The man asked out of concern and honest concern at that. He hadn't known her long nor the others. But they were allies and perhaps friends? He dreaded the thought of another death or injury plaguing them.
