Tende altum, volare altius
Keenan watched Blue'a antics and Venora's reaction and couldn't help but laugh.
"I'm sorry." He said, still chuckling. "I can't help much, she barely listens to me as it is, but she definitely likes you."
When the dog rolled back and Keenan caught a glimpse of what Venora had been working on his mouth parted in surprise.
"Blue, hold." Bluebell tilted her head but remained still, seeming to catch the reasoning behind the command. Keenan knew mabari were smarter than your average dogs, sometimes though he wondered exactly how much Blue did understand. The flowing strokes coiled about her grey body, infinitely more striking and elegant than the brutish stripes he'd painted before.
"I don't mind at all." He rushed to say it. "In fact, I'm honored you'd share that part of your culture with me...well, with Blue."
The mabari seemed honored too, because she leaned over in an effort to give Venora a thorough face-licking.
This renewed Keenan's laughter.
"Mabari warpaint, or 'Kaddis' as it's called is also a fairly important part of Ferelden culture. It's painted on so that the dogs can tell friend from foe. My mother always wanted a mabari, she's my Ferelden half...you know, come to think of it I haven't been back home since I joined the wardens."
He waited until Venora had finished her work and then sat back to admire it.
"She looks beautiful." He said with an approving nod. Blue lifted her head higher, as if enjoying the compliment.
