    relevant history

    (TW: Child abuse)

Jared and Eileen were an odd couple, so to speak.
Jared Dreyfus was a new community college graduate, struggling to find work in the turbulence of northeastern Massachusetts. Eileen wasโ€ฆ confident. Put-together. A promising secretary at a local business. Jared counted himself lucky when she met him at an art show and they got along right away. From there it was off to dinners, community theatre productions, evening walks by the ocean. It was no surprise that two years later they were happily married and settled in a quiet apartment in the small Boston-area city of Lynn. And for six years, they and their two new daughters were enjoying a modest but practical life. Money was tight between the four of them, but everything seemed to work out in the end. The two daughters were healthy and bright, now two and four years old. A strained, but overall happy and content little family.

Then, one late summer night, came the third child: their first and only son. Right from the start, he was welcomed to the world with fear and repulsion. Still exhausted and delirious in the hospital after the birth, his mother sobbed and refused to take him in her arms, saying over and over โ€œno, thatโ€™s not mine. Thatโ€™s not my baby. Something is wrong. Look at it, itโ€™s sick.โ€ Eileen had never had such a traumatic postpartum experience. Even after she recovered, took her child home, and resumed her normal activities, she continued to feel as though there was something not quite right about her newest child.

And time seemed to prove her right: it quickly became apparent that Oliver wasnโ€™t developing typically. He struggled to gain motor skills, failed to react and respond to social stimuli by copying eye contact and specific gesturing, and didnโ€™t start talking until he was nearly four years old. He had poor balance and an unusual, impractical walking stride. Normal everyday situations seemed to agonize him, often without a clear trigger. It took a long while for both parents to be convinced to have Oliver evaluated, in no small part due to the fact that Eileen was sure her son was just the product of her personal nightmares.

She loathed the autism diagnosis with every fiber of her being. In her eyes, she simply couldn't have a disabled son; that was impossible. She had a stupid son, a difficult son, a son who acted up and hid and bit himself and didn't know how to behave in social situations. Subconsciously at first, she started shunning him.

She was wrong to think this about Oliver: in fact, most kids at his level of functioning, provided they were given the right therapy and support, would go on to live fulfilling and independent lives. With early interventions and caring, attentive families, theyโ€™d overcome the majority of their challenges and gain skills.

Oliver didnโ€™t get support, though. His diagnosis was the last time he ever saw a doctor.
He didnโ€™t get supportโ€ฆ Instead, he got punishment and anger and blame from his mother, who now saw him as the source of everything going wrong in her life.

From then on, anything that went wrong, no matter how big or small or out of anyoneโ€™s hands it was, she would blame on him. And her lashings-out grew more ferocious and violent by the day, creating a deadly feedback loop. Constantly walking on eggshells throughout the day, fearful of doing something wrong and getting berated, had Oliver under such extreme distress that he would slip up more often and anger his mother even more.

Kids just arenโ€™t built to be stressed out and terrified every minute of every day. By age 10, he was showing signs that he wasnโ€™t capable of handling the stress he was under. The verbal communication skills heโ€™d managed to develop over the past 5 years, heโ€™d almost lost. He barely spoke anymore, and when he did it was mostly in disorganized sentence fragments. Heโ€™d developed a stutter and a lisp that seemed to get worse instead of better. He would hit and bite and scratch himself, pull at his hair, scream until his throat almost bled. He seemed incapable of sleeping normally; instead he was having brutal nightmares, wetting the bed, waking up disoriented and unsettled.

His mother failed to realize that it was her constant terrorizing of Oliver that was causing him to falter in his development. And as Oliverโ€™s condition regressed, soon it wasnโ€™t only his mother who was treating him like an embarrassment and a liability.

His sisters and father never harassed him the way his mother did, but they certainly were never affectionate towards him either. His father especially became more withdrawn and inattentive as the years went by, retreating into his work and his cigarettes and his long nights out.

Then, one day, he disappeared altogether. He got on the train to work and never returned.

That was a breaking point for Eileen Dreyfus. Of course, in the midst of her grief and anger, she found a way to pin it on her son. This was all his fault, wasn't it? His fault for tearing the family apart by being such a burden and an annoyance.

It wasnโ€™t enough for Eileen to despise her child. The deep resentment that ate away at her was too strong for that.
She needed everyone else to despise him, too.

So, in an intentional move to uproot the family and wipe the slate, she collected what little money sheโ€™d saved, got on a bus with her children, and set course for the most affordable West-Coast city she could find.
Joplin was perfect for her needs.

She realized there was much social capital to be found in her uniquely sympathetic positionโ€ฆ she was now a single mother, struggling to get by on a low income and raise her four children, including one with a developmental disability. Oliver: Eileenโ€™s golden ticket to swaying the minds of Joplin against him so that nobody would ever be the wiser as to how cruelly she treated the boy who ruined her life.

Eileen only rarely would bring her son with her and the rest of the family outside in the city. And whenever they were seen together, she took great care to manipulate the way he was perceived: always firmly holding onto his hand, as if he would run away from her if she let go. If anyone talked to him, sheโ€™d answer for him, giving the impression that he was unable to speak at all. And on the rare occasion where he did have something to say, his motherโ€™s gentle but pointed laugh would tell everyone around them that he was foolish and not to be listened to. The way she treated him in public was painstakingly calculated to ensure that everyone saw him as unintelligent, untrustworthy, and erratic.

    And everyone believed it.
She loved the attention that being his mother gave her. Finally, sheโ€™d found a use for him.
That didnโ€™t stop her mistreatment of him, thoughโ€“ just palliated it a bit, perhaps.

She had set him up to fail, and fail he did. By the time he hit high school, he was sorely underprepared for the social demands he was suddenly facing. Almost instantly, he found himself getting hounded by bullies and belittled by his teachers despite his decently good grades. He had no idea how to behave himself in these new situations, and quickly became overwhelmed and began acting out aggressively and inappropriately, which only further cemented the reputation that his mother had carved out for him.

Around this time, his mother remarried an equally dysfunctional raging bastard of a man named John Park, hence Oliver's hyphenated last name. Eileen and John were a match made in Hell, in every sense of the phrase, but at least Oliver gained a new stepsister from the ordeal: Ashley Park would be a great friend to him in the years to come.

So, like a weed caught in a pavement crack, he grew sideways instead of growing up. There were things about life in Texas that were surprisingly good for him. He was able to sneak out of the house a little more often now that he was older, which gave him a chance to learn and experience things without his mother sabotaging it. He discovered his passion for turtles on a class trip to the aquarium, and through that, through raiding the library for every book he could find on the subject, he slowly found his words again. He had a passion; something he could always talk about and was always aching to learn more about.

Turtles became his key to interacting with the rest of the world. Everything else he learned that he could relate back to turtles, it stuck with him and he was able to grasp more complex and nuanced knowledge. After about a year, unbeknownst to his mother or his siblings besides Ashley, heโ€™d finally cracked his way into making friends and talking to people on his own.

tumblr_inline_osdyiqiOv11s2djns_250.gifv

16 years old // bisexual // Photographer // Yearbook
Sophmore at Highgate
Likes and dislikes ~ +Photography, flowers, Y2K fashion, Tumblr, volleyball. -Negativity, caffeine, religion, chocolate, dark spaces.
Appearance ~ Aly is 5'3" and weighs around 190 lbs. Her body is curvy and her skin is porcelain white. She has freckles all over and she sun burns pretty badly sometimes. Her hair is dark and about mid-length, and her eyes are dark brown. Her style is very Y2K, she doesn't know why the style resonates with her but she likes the colours and patterns that she can work into her everyday wear and not feel like she's standing out.

Personality ~ Aly is overall a positive girl. She likes to make people happy, even if it's at her own expense sometimes. She's not the best at making friends, but she's the best at keeping them. She will be the most loyal person that you can have in your life. If you're down, she'll bring snacks and cozy blankets or she'll plan spontaneous adventures. As long as she can bring a smile to your face, she's happy.
With some pretty harsh expectations that her family keeps on her, being the odd one out and all, Aly does her best to keep herself busy away from home, whether that's volunteering for whatever extracurricular activity she can, or planning photoshoots for her friends. There are times when she doesn't feel the best about herself or the way some people in her life make her feel, but the thing about Aly is she is always able to push through it. While that may not be the best coping mechanism, she is happy with the way things turn out in the end. Over everything though, she is excited to move to New York to become the best photographer she can be.
History ~ Aly's family aren't the best people out there. Though almost always away from home, her parents somehow managed to pop out 6 kids, Aly is one of the two middle kids. Of course, everyone turned out perfect. With beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes, athleticism born into them, how did Aly have brown hair, brown eyes, and a curvy body? Probably because her mom cheated (big scandal) and had Aly from a different man. While this almost destroyed her parent's marriage, the couple somehow pulled through and had two more children to complete the family.
Of course, being the odd one has its disadvantages. She never has felt a connection with her siblings. They all play sports, they all have the best grades, and of course, they all get along. Aly's dad is especially indifferent to the girl. Sometimes he loves her and treats her as her own, but most of the time he acts like she doesn't exist. She thinks it's just to make himself look better. Her mom is the only one who loves her, despite her mom being gone a lot of the time for work. Aly uses the times that her mom is gone to get away from her siblings and her dad. Spending most of her time at the school or with friends.
Though she has two more years until she is in college, she's been applying for early scholarships and such that involve her photography. New York is far enough from her family that she won't have to deal with the siblings, but it's also where her mom works a lot of the time. So, even though she'll be far away from home, her mom will be with her more often.
Extras ~ Is a pretty rad photographer.
Loves using disposable cameras.
Has an emotional support dog named Binoo

Favourite Song

  • Yuri Choi
    E2hagnQXMAQyVei.jpg:large

18/Male/Homosexual/Senior at Highgate/Singer and Football Player

Synopsis: Known at Highgate as the "Soulful Voice of Highgate", Yuri has made a name for himself by uploading videos online of him singing covers in his free time. Even though he joined the football team because his father pressured him into it, Yuri still manages to walk his own path. Yuri was born to a Caucasian Mother, a well-known actress, and a Korean father, who owns numerous multi-million dollar businesses. His father is an extreme sports fan, particularly football. Yuri grew up understanding just how important football was to his father. His mother didn't care much for the sport, and he loved hanging out with her, but his father definitely started harnessing his son's strengths in sports at a young age. His mother nurse his vocals and enrolled Yuri in martial arts classes, which Yuri showcased great talent in both.

Yuri is as kind as they come, but he can be a huge flirt. He likes enjoying life, shopping, and singing, but he doesn't like bullies, especially what he calls "keyboard warriors" which are people who use the internet to bully and offend and hide behind their phone or computer screen. He doesn't like liars, and he doesn't appreciate people who talk down to others because of their status. He's not one to be involved in the rivalries between Highgate and Eastway. In fact, he has a childhood friend who attends Eastway and they hang out whenever they can.

When he made it to high school, he immediately applied for football, and because of his speed and athleticism, the coach felt he was a great addition. His position includes cornerback, wide receiver, and punter; although, the coach has switched him several times to different positions each year. Now in his senior year, his coach has really honed him in the positions mentioned earlier. When not playing football, Yuri helps around the school and sings for different events like the national anthem, or the annual school concerts.

Yuri currently is single. He's friends with a few students at Highgate. Because of how flirtatious he is, and how promiscuous he can be, he has had many encounters of the wild kind. Now in his senior year at high school, he's ready to graduate and move to college. He currently has a couple of scholarship applications submitted, but the conflict comes when figuring out if he wants to continue playing football or focus on his music. Due to his good looks, his mother has already received requests for him to model different brands, but he has not pursued it yet.

Lacey has that fall cardigan style all year round. She enjoys cute and soft ones, but during spring/summer will opt for a lose one and leggings. She enjoys more lose clothing, especially if her dress twirls very nicely as well. She has about 400 different purses, as she never wants to have one that just doesn't make the outfit. Her hair is typically curled and down, but she tries to not use a curler...she's had a bad experience with curlers so she likes to do non-heat options.

โ€ ๐—ก๐—”๐— ๐—˜ ๐— ๐—˜๐—”๐—ก๐—œ๐—ก๐—š - Guinevere name derives from the Cornish โ€œGwenhwรฟfar,โ€ composed of two elements: From the Proto-Brythonic โ€œ*gwindos,โ€ and Proto-Celtic โ€œ*windos,โ€ meaning โ€œwhite, fairโ€ plus from the Proto-Celtic โ€œseibrฤ (hwyfar),โ€ meaning (phantom, spirit). The name means โ€œthe white fay, white phantom, white spirit.โ€ In Arthurian legend, Gwenhwรฟfar was the wife of King Arthur. It became a common first name for females in English-speaking countries during the 20th-century. The name Jennifer has been in use since the 18th-century. Before 1906 the name was relatively uncommon, but it gained some recognition after George Bernard Shaw used it for the main female character in The Doctorโ€™s Dilemma. name derives from Latin โ€œpetraโ€ (Petrus), from the Ancient Greek โ€œpรฉtrฤ โ€Ž(ฯ€ฮญฯ„ฯแพฑ) Pรฉtros (ฮ ฮญฯ„ฯฮฟฯ‚),โ€ from the Aramaic word โ€œkephas,โ€ which in turn derives from the Syriac โ€œkefa,โ€ all words meaning โ€œstone, rockโ€ (figurative meaning: reliable, stable and resolute). Saint Peter, according to ancient tradition, was a prominent early Christian leader, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, according to the New Testament. He is venerated as a saint and considered by the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and Oriental Orthodoxy to be the first bishop of Rome and the first Pope. Roman Catholics believe him to have been the first Pope and all subsequent popes to have been his successors, and therefore sometimes refer to the Pope or the Papacy itself as Peter.

Of course she's also compassionate, forthright and insightful, but they're far less prominent, especially compared to impulses of being narcissistic as well.
Her loving nature though, this is what she's pretty much known for. Friends tend to count on this and her intelligence especially when they need comforting or support.
Nobody's perfect of course and Guinevere has plenty of less favorable characteristics too. Her perversions and insulting nature sour the mood many a time, though more on a personal level than for others.
Fortunately her romantic nature helps prevent most of these grievances.

Calvin is largely used in the English and German languages, and its origin is Old French. The name is of the meaning little bald one. Calvinus (Latinized) is an older form of Calvin. The first name is derived from the French surname Chauvin, which is ,from a diminutive of the Norman and Picard 'calve', itself from the Old French adjective 'chauve', cognate with the Latin 'calvus'. The given name was first adopted in honor of Jean Chauvin (John Calvin) (1509-1564), a French theologian and Protestant Reformation leader who gave his name to the Calvinist movement. The name was taken to America by early Protestant settlers and adopted by English speakers from the 16th century. It is also known from the imaginative boy character in Bill Watterson's comic strip Calvin and Hobbes (1985-1995). The name Calvina (Italian) is the female equivalent of Calvin. Boris has its origins in the Slavonic language. It is used largely in the English, German, Russian, and Slavic languages. The name is often taken to be from the short form of Borislav and thus of the element boru (meaning 'fight, battle'). It is more likely of Tartar origin, from the nickname Bogoris. The name has been borne by three Bulgarian rulers, including the 9th-century King Boris I, who converted his kingdom to Christianity. Saint Boris was a 10th-century Russian saint and prince who was murdered along with his brother Gleb; their festival is still being observed in Russia. Boris Godunov was a 16th-century Russian tsar and son-in-law of Ivan the Terrible; he became the subject of Alexander Pushkin's play (1831) and Mussorgsky's opera (1872) bearing his name. The name has long been popular in Russia and Hungary. Among English speakers, it has been made known by Boris Karloff (1887-1969), the horror film actor best known for his role as the monster in the film Frankenstein (1931). The baby boy name Clark is pronounced as KLaa-RK โ€ . Clark is an English name of Old English origin. The first name is derived from the surname and job title reserved for someone working in the clergy, who earned his living through his then unusual literacy skills, reading and writing records in religious orders. The job title is itself taken from the Old English 'clerc' (meaning cleric, clerk), and the Latin root word is 'clericus' (cleric, clerk). The given name was first used at the end of the 19th century, and mainly in the USA. In the 20th century, it was popularized by the actor Clark Gable (1901-1961) from the successful film Gone With The Wind (1939), and by the name's appearance in the Superman comics (1938-).

His persuasive nature though, this is what he's pretty much loved for. Friends frequently count on this and his efficiency whenever they need help.
Nobody's perfect of course and Calvin has less pleasant traits too. His crude ways and amoral nature cause plenty of grievances, both personally and for others.
Fortunately his calm nature shines brighter on most days.

Who you are is a brand, how you market it is up to you

Son of Rome

Name: Giovanni Conte
Nick Name: Gio
Age: 17
Sexuality: Homosexual
School: Highgate
Grade: Senior

Personality:
Giovanni lives up to the stereotype of the โ€œpassionate Italianโ€. With a fragile temper at times, itโ€™s caused him to get into a few scrapes growing up. However, just like his temper he also cares a lot for his family, close friends etc. Growing up as gay in his big Italian family has made him somewhat defensive of his sexuality and as a result this can cause him to sometimes see an insult where none exists.

Gio is also very charming when he wants to be, coupled with his good looks and family money means there's a bit of an ego surrounding him. This is inflated further by the fact that he is one of the few popular kids in school not affiliated with the football team in any way. While not usually prone to stress, Gio is beginning to feel the pressure in his life regarding his social life, family life as well as hobbies and interests.

Clout is King

History:
Giovanni is the only child of his mother Donnatella โ€œDonnaโ€ Conte. Coming from a large successful family, Giovanni was spoiled like any other son would be in his family. Not knowing his father did have an effect on him growing up, however he did not lack for male figures in his life. Between his grandfather and multiple uncles he grew up in a large family. However, any questioning of his fathers identity often resulted in his mother becoming upset and his family telling him his father was a wicked man and best not being discussed.

Giovanni showed no interest in the cult of football, instead becoming interested in video games and the business of becoming a streamer. Of course, being denied nothing he was gifted with the most up to date hardware as well as a wallet as deep as any ocean for his needs and requirements. Being as charming as he was paired with being considered attractive, it did not take long for Giovanni to start establishing an online brand for himself.

Giovanni came out as gay when he was 14, a surprise to his family. It definitely made things rocky for a while between Giovanni, his mother and his extended family. But it did not take long to go back to normality. A few cheesy jokes and references to finding a good italian boy and it was more or less accepted at that point.

Now Giovanni is looking into getting a marketing degree in college to continue to build on the brand he has started building for him to make something sustainable for the future.

Name:
Cole Casablancas
Age:
14
Sexuality:
Still figuring that out most likely straight
Personality:

Cole is a dedicated individual, when he gets involved in something he see's it though until the very end no matter what the outcome is. Cole is a generally nice kid, even though his father was strict with him and his older brothers and it could be a hard life sometimes, Cole always tries to keep a good attitude and always tries to treat people with respect. Sometimes especially when Cole is in a competitive mood he can become a little show offish especially with things that he excels at like football for example. Usually though he tries to keep his emotions in check. Cole is protective of the people he cares about and though he will try to keep his emotions in check, if he doesn't like you, then you will probably know it.

Background/History
Cole comes from a football family. Cole's parents especially his father have been involved in football their whole life. Back in the day Cole's father was a big time football player in high school. He was supposed to have a full scholarship to play in college but the last game of his senior year he got tackled hard which caused him to have a bad injury and he had to stop playing football. He now has pushed his dreams onto his four sons Cole being the youngest of the four Casablanca boys. Their father was tough on them growing up, expecting them all to excel at football like he did and expecting them to turn into men. Their father was no easy to please either, no matter how well they did it never seemed to be enough to satisfy their father.

Even with all the pressure from his father, Cole loved football ever since he was a little kid and watched his older brothers Preston, Jesse and Gavin all play. When Cole was old
enough his parents signed him up for pop warner football and just like that all four Casablanca boys were playing football. From an early age Cole wanted to be a star quarterback like the one's he would watch play in the NFL on Sunday's and it seemed that Cole had a natural talent to throw the ball. Even when he was a little kid he was just as good as a quarterback as kids that were older than him. Cole even went on to break a few passing records for their town's middle school team. Now as a freshman Cole has a lot of pressure on him as a lot of people are expecting big things out of him in the future. For years he's been seen as the next great highgate quarterback but even with all of those expectations on him he is just the 2nd string varsity quarterback this year as a freshman. There is an older player ahead of him. So for this season Cole is the starting quarterback for the JV team and is the backup for the Varsity team and will only get his shot if the starting varsity quarterback gets hurt or starts playing poorly.

While Cole's relationship with his father is rocky at best, his relationships with his older brothers are good. Even though the pick on him sometimes since he's the baby of the family he still looks up to all of them a lot, though he couldn't ever let them know that. They all look out for each other as best as they can.
