Kkachi Corvidae
(19/Misfortune/Tages: Morzone Morzone )

"10"

Kkachi smirked. The b#####d could fight. He had experience and followed his own rules. Unpredictable, a terrible ally to be honest, but perhaps an opportunity for a rival.

The world went dark as he slipped into unconsciousness. He was close. He could have charged through another wall, or taken out the spider thing. One firm punch could have ended the whole fight in his favor.

I guess I really do have the worst luck, he thought, slipping into the void of rest.

Rowan's guard finally fell back into rest, his muscles relaxing. All his illusions vanishing, he walked over to where Kkachi lay on the floor, unconscious.

"Kind of a bummer, really thought he was going to charge there. I was all ready to use my new technique as well. Ah well." He muttered to himself, squatting down by his opponent. Holding his hand over Kkachi, he could feel the heat coming off his burns. "Oof he took a lot. Pretty tough guy here. Still seems a little light for ending up knocked out though. His ability must have some real backlash. Well, better get this guy to that nurse."

Shifting Kkachi around, Rowan lifted him over his shoulder in a Fireman's carry and head back toward where the others who'd finished their fights were waiting. Along the way he had the misfortune to stub his toe on apparently nothing. With a groan he shifted Kkachi slightly on his shoulder and kept going.

Daxter Wicken (Dax)

Dax bit his lip, returning to glancing about the room to distract himself. There wasn't much to pay attention to. He felt weird staring at someone, but the others in the room were really the only interesting thing about it. Maybe-
A taunt dragged his gaze away from the walls. Rowan and the other guy had started. A slight bit of nausea settled in his stomach once again. Time to watch even more people beat eachother to a pulp. Fun.
He wanted to avert his eyes, but it would probably be useful to know what powers they possessed. Besides, the fighting drew his eyes like a moth to flame. It was just instinct to pay attention to where the most noise was to him, coming in handy when he needed to know when to run, what to do, how to escape. Not that he'd be doing much escaping here.
Dax flinched as he watched Rowan charge toward the black haired man, practically jumping out of his seat when he exploded into light. What was that? How did that happen? He squinted against the cloud of wisps, trying to keep the brightness from blinding him completely. He couldn't see a thing through the hoard of... whatever they were.
Soon enough, the orbs of light had frozen, and morphed into a single, burning red wall. Dax blinked, still trying to figure out how the heck Rowan was doing this. Unless it was the other guy's ability? That was possible, he supposed, but still a strange strategy nonetheless.
Daxter jolted at the sudden screech of agony he heard from within the box, as the walls of the container extended. More gutteral screams sounded, and he glanced downward, not wanting to see whatever intense pain the prisoner inside could be feeling. A tinge of embarrassment crept into his mind. Here he was, hiding his face like a little kid when it wasn't even him that was in danger.
After a long moment of pause, he sighed, unglueing his eyes from the floor, just in time to see a dark wave pulse across the arena. He shivered. Whatever it was felt wrong. Like a coat moving by itself. Or a night sky without the stars.
The dark haired guy said something about illusions. Despite being surrounded by strange spider-like creatures, he seemed oddly confident. He shot off something from his fingers, and a few seconds later, Rowan appeared once again. Dax rubbed his eyes as the lights grew brighter than before, trying to remove the blinding sensation. Rowan was yelling. Why was he talking about luck?
Dax only had the time to wonder about this for a few seconds before the other guy collapsed. Rowan didn't seem to respond, and began counting.
After reaching ten, Daxter watched him pick his opponent up and drag him over toward the rest of the finished pairs. He hoped they were okay.

Rowan deposited the limp body of his opponent by the door. After double checking to make sure he was in a safe position sitting against the wall, he stood up and looked around at the people who were there. The first person he spotted was the guy he'd come in with, but Rowan wanted to talk with some of the people who'd spent time in this facility already. Next his eyes fell on a pair of girls - a short-ish one with silvery hair and one with quite an abundance of stitches in them- and decided they were as good as any. He couldn't recall either of them particularly using or showing off their powers during their fight, but the one with silver hair had given off an air of someone who at least knew what they were doing when it came to combat.

As he headed over to where the pair were standing, he considered what he could infer about them. Why hadn't they used their abilities? If he was right about the assumptions he'd made after witnessing the first fight, these people shouldn't be able to have kept anything about their abilities secret so hiding them would have been pointless. In that case, it logically meant that both their abilities weren't well suited for combat to the point that they would act more as a liability than an asset. That would make most sense, though he personally doubted any power could be that non-combative. Rowan generally attributed usefulness to the user's creativity than the ability's properties. Then again, maybe they could be used, but had poor compatibility against the other? That could be possible. There was of course the chance that they had decided a simply not to use them, no matter how useful the ability, and only use their physical strength. That seemed like a pretty risky choice, considering the threats against anyone who didn't use their full potential during the fights. Well, whatever it was it was done and it had been their decision to do it.

"Sorry if I'm interrupting anything, but I was watching your fight earlier and I got curious." He spoke to the two, trying not to sound like some nosy busybody, "Oh, I'm Rowan by the way. Rowan Summers. I'm quite new to this place."

Lena Daubney

Lena had nodded to Hitomi with a small smile, acknowledging the other girl's remark, before she had turned her attention to the last fight. Rowan and Kkachi were the two boys' names, though Lena didn't know which of them was which. She had been reminded once more how lucky her own pairing had been - she couldn't even tell what exactly the powers used in that fight had been, but especially in the case of the boy conjuring these... illusions of some sort, Lena knew that she would likely not have stood a chance.

A small crease formed between her eyebrows when the blonde boy headed in her and Hitomi's direction after depositing his opponent's unconscious form. Was he actually coming to meet them? And why? Lena's puzzled expression persisted until the boy reached them and introduced himself.

Did Rowan mean to say he had noticed something off about their fight? That could mean trouble. Lena sat up straighter as a slight shadow of anxiety passed over her face before she caught herself and changed it into a polite smile. If Rowan was really going down that direction, she'd just have to pull him on their side before he had thoughts of telling on them. She wasn't too confident in her charisma or skills at persuasion, but maybe it would work out somehow.

"Oh no, it's fine, right?" Lena replied, shooting a glance at Hitomi to affirm her words. "I'm Lena Daubney, nice to meet you." After a moment, she remembered her exchanges in the cafeteria and extended her hand for Rowan to shake. Right. Manners. "Actually, I'm quite curious about your fight, too," she ventured, moving the subject away from herself and Hitomi. "Your power looks impressive. Were those lasers or something?"

Though Lena hardly knew anything about natural sciences or technology, even she had heard tales of focused light powerful enough to burn or cut through various materials, and what had happened to Kkachi had looked at least a bit similar. Also, she figured, the more questions she asked instead of answered, the better for her. If this day had taught her anything, it was that learning by, well, learning was at least as important as learning by doing, which had been her primary method out in the city.

Rowan nodded, shaking Lena's hand. "The lights you saw aren't lasers, but I can do something like them. Unfortunately my partner didn't hold out long enough for me to use them." He said, shrugging and looking somewhat disappointed he hadn't been able to use all of his techniques. The subject redirection had not gone unnoticed however, and Rowan wasn't about to let her get away with asking all the questions.

"Your powers must be pretty unique, I didn't see you use them once during your sparring match. There aren't many abilities that don't have a use in a battle." he said, casually switching the conversation back in the other direction.

'Not long enough'? Lena raised an eyebrow. In her opinion, the fight between Rowan and Kkachi had gone on for quite a while, and from what she could tell, Rowan had done several different things with his power during that time alone. What else could he do, given time and opportunity? One thing was for sure, Lena didn't want to make an enemy of this guy.

She relaxed a little, however, as Rowan specified his question about her and Hitomi's fight. If that was all he had found odd, there was no problem at all.

"Oh, I did use mine, actually," Lena replied, her smile taking on a hue of amusement. "There's just nothing to see, I guess. I can change air pressure or density or whatever a little," she explained. "But I don't really know how to use it properly yet, so my best shot is still 'normal' fighting." Lena shrugged and left the detailing of her power at that. If Rowan was interested in hearing more, he'd certainly ask, anyway - even though there wasn't all that much to say, Lena felt.

The scientists here had originally promised they'd help her figure out more about her power - uses, limitations -, but most of the time, there were other activities scheduled or 'training' that didn't really deserve the term. Thus, her grasp of what she was able to do and how to do that was only a little bit better than at her arrival here.

"Air Pressure huh?" Rowan said, habitually holding his chin as he thought the ability over. Wasn't that what caused wind? He'd dealt with wind a lot back when he'd done construction work, but that had been mainly how to deal with it, rather than the science behind it. He was fairly sure air just moved from high density to low density, the larger the difference the stronger the winds. Plus there was the whole breathing thing that could be manipulated. He supposed Lena really wasn't used to using it like she said. It wasn't too surprising, he had to consider himself lucky that he'd been able to practice his own abilities relatively freely from early childhood.

"ah-sorry" Rowan brought himself out of his musings back to the present. "That's a pretty neat ability. It probably works pretty similarly to my own. I control the refraction of light, then amplify its effects after I condense it into a single color." Rowan glanced over at the other girl - the one with all the stitches- wondering what her ability was. he wasn't going to push her to talk about it now, learning about Lena's ability would be enough, but he had every intention to find out in future.

Refraction, amplify, condense... Lena had to focus to even keep up with Rowan's explanation. She believed she properly understood these words, but they were difficult, unfamiliar terms and it took her a while to recall their meanings. "So basically like a rainbow, but the other way around?" she finally asked to make sure she wasn't completely off the mark. "I think that light and air are two completely different pair of shoes, though. But you seem fairly skilled with your power. How did you, I don't know, figure it out?" Lena shifted to a different line of inquiry. Rowan sounded fairly educated about both the use of his ability and the principles behind it, and if the Facility's scientists wouldn't teach her, maybe Lena could learn a thing or two from him.
