I play females mostly cuz
1:There's so much anime girls with gun and tact gear so action rps rock XD
2:The anime dudes look the same while the girls are always unique...

I used to be apprehensive about Male characters because "If I'm not a man, how can I play one?"

Well...turns out 13 year old me was wrong! The first time I made a male character happen (not just an NPC - a "main" or something like that), I had fun and got some positive feedback about him. He was a full character, not an idealization of what I think a "man" should be (he wasn't even my "type" if you're wondering if I wrote for him because I'm a repressed teenager). He had enough personality flaws and enough virtues that some thought he was okay, and others didn't agree. It wasn't a mindblowing experience or anything, as I was still playing as a human being. He had all the emotions, the hobbies, etc. You get the idea.

It just went uphill from there. I got more comfortable playing males and females. It also helped a lot to think of characters as human beings rather than their genders. It just either happens to be a male character or it just happens to be a female. Yes they have differences but they're still humans. I understand people may be hesitant about playing opposite genders or outright uncomfortable, but it's still something worth trying.

As far as Quest RPs go, I have male characters that are important to the plot, but I'm yet to write for a male protagonist.

So yeah. That kinda went on. "Characters aren't their genders" is what I see, so...they just happen to be male or female.

(Chances are I'll usually play at least 1 female though. It's still easier for me to write for them.)

It depends on the RP, story and most of all pairing. But I guess I play the opposite gender more often than not.

I started out playing male characters, then tried female, then I switched between the two if needed. Mostly guys still, because most of the people I RP with tend to play as females (which I don't mind. It is for balance after all.)

As for preference? Hah, androgynous characters . . .

Although I'm non-binary I'm AFAB, and while my earliest characters were girls because I was more inclined to make characters "like me," once I started getting into adult RP I actually only RP'd men. This was around the time I got into yaoi when I was like... 13 or 14, and I was more comfortable with a sexuality/gender identity totally alien to me at the time than one involving my same parts. Sexual content I'd run into involving females (porn) looked violent and uncomfortable, and I didn't want to RP that.

These days my cast of characters casts a wide net, including men, women, transgender, nonbinary, gender-queer, agender, and intersex individuals. It's way more interesting for me this way.

I see RPing as a way to kinda escape things for a while. I am a Male IRL and have problems with said life, Im kinda a cold person who subdues the fuck out of my emotion minus anger and depression. And thats why I generally create female characters. I always put a part of myself into my characters so I use Female characters to express the emotions that I lock down. I give them upbeat or loving complexes that are hard for me to show but I know I have. Though I also seem to always give my characters (regardless of gender) some tragic backstory, to which I dont have a problem doing but if I can I wont do said story, but more times than not the circumstance kinda calls for it

I have to say that it's FAR easier to find female character concepts and art, especially if you're using anime stuff. All the male stuff looks the same

Do I prefer it? I wouldn't say I DON'T prefer it, but all my best characters period have been male and all my best female characters have been pets subordinate to my main character, usually as a familiar whose personality contrasts a lot, making for a fairly cute dynamic at times

It is actually easier to write with the opposite gender, working with female characters would be very hard, and not really interesting for me, i mean, female characters are oftenly potrayed as the same (being cute, being romantic, being attractive)..
, while male characters provided lot of ideas and motivation.

by the same, i played as a lawyer(Phoenix Wright), angel(Pit), archeologist(Hershel Layton), robots (Clank, Baymax and the giant from Iron Giant), Natsume Takashi, Zoro Roronoa.. etc!

All my roles are males, i don't do exceptions, because i'm not comfortable with it, and i like to be comfortable in a role.


Is it a preference? yes, that was like that since 2014, i don't plan to change that, unless if i trust a person enought to do so.

also, i am uncomfortable with girls because of the exagerrated in proportions ones, thanks to the harrassers who does nothing but that, ugh..

I play as both. Sometimes guys are easier, it just depends. I don't think one's own gender should limit them to who they write as but maybe that's just me.

I play male characters all the time. I prefer a good balance of both female and male characters. What I don't like with playing the male character sometimes for example is if I see the person I'm roleplaying with will turn their female character into a damsel needing to be rescued from some danger every time or what was once an action adventure plot has turned into the female seven posts in trying her hardest to get my male character to notice her and fall in love with her. Er no, I would rather chuck my character off a cliff than deal with instant romance. No. Noooo!

I play both and I can't say I have any strong preference.
Maybe when I was just starting to rp I had a slight preference to my own gender because it was easier. But I still played both.
And now it's equally okay. I play whatever I want to play at the time and whatever my partners want me to play.

I always prefer to role play female characters, but I don't have any problems role playing male characters as well. I can just relate to females more.

I play many gender and non-gender characters. Before I came out at trans, i used to pretty much exclusively play male characters. but since coming out, i've actually been more comfortable playing different gendered characters due to discovering new terminology for my community. i still, b default, play men, but certain aspects of them i keep fluid.

For the longest time, I always preferred playing the opposite gender and that was typically as a means to ignore straight men that wanted to play with other women who only played women. Then after awhile, my writing style used to be quite gender neutral, almost masculine. So when I started to go back to playing female characters, it was just . . . an experience.

But for the most part I actively enjoy it and encourage it. I never understood people that played one gender and one gender only and then would try to persecute others that would rather have more flexible partners. It's so . . . weird to me?

TL; DR: I play dudes because they're fun.

My main character is male. 100% I role-play as a female only as a sub-character, and only if it supports the plot/character in some sort of fashion.

In written RP, I do both genders equally, as I prefer to adjust to what my partner likes to write against.
It's a bit different during 'in person' RPs, as it can really strain the voice if you overdo it.

I prefer muchly to play a male character. Not saying I can't play females; but males are a preference.

I definitely favor playing female characters, but I have absolutely no quarrel with playing the opposite gender. Heck, I even get urges to play as male characters, and I have a much easier time creating and establishing male characters.
