Alex gave a small nod and smiled a bit "Thats what I was thinking as well." He murmured softly before kissing her gently

Jake frowned a bit and gave a small nod to him "I'm so sorry dad." He said softly seeing how much this still had a hold on him "But you got us now thankfully right?"

She nodded and smiled laying back with him to put the tv on when she noticed him going a little quiet. “You need more painkillers babe?” She asked him quietly.

he nodded and smiled. “All I want you to know is that your mother and I both love you kids so very much alright? And that’s the most important part.” He told him ruffling his head. @what you want from the Chinese?” He asked him

Jake gave a small nod and shrugged some "My usual, brocolli beef with noodles." He said giving him a small smile "So are you and Max officially a couple now?"

Alex fell silent as he started to get into a painful state again. He gave her a small nod before taking deep breaths

She nodded and got up carefully to go request more painkillers, frowning when she brought a nurse back to find him holding his chest now as well, just staying close by for comfort.

He nodded some and sighed a little. “Uh.. yeah… we’re trying things out one last time. Seeing where it takes us.” He told him as he was putting the order through.

Alex grunted as she left and held his chest feeling a tight feeling "I can't...fuck this hurts.." he panted

Jake gave a small nod and smiled a bit "I hope things work out. Max is really nice, and I like her around. Just uh....no super PDA around me please." He said before laughing a bit.

Carmen frowned and just held his hand trying to soothe him as much as she could until more staff came in and she was asked to leave, stepping outside and calling his mom back.

Jeff nodded and smiled tiredly some “Alright, food is on its way… I’m gonna go get changed into slogs and make the rounds feeding. Call me when the food gets here.” He told him, leaving him to it and taking the dogs with him

Jake gave a nod and watched his dad a bit "Alright." He murmured before turning his attnetion to his phone.

Alex frowned a bit when they started push Carmen out of the room"No...no wai...wait don't.." he panted reaching out for her

Carmen could hear him panicking for a minute before he went quiet and she finally called his mom frowning. “Hey… I know Alex said not to come down here but he’s not doing so good right now and I’m just worried about him…. It would probably help if you came down.” She suggested to her.

Jeff got back inside an hour later, stamping the snow off his boots and got stuff put away so he could go check and see why their food hadn’t arrived yet but he found Jake in the lounge with his food and frowned. “Hey, you were supposed to call me when this arrived.” He muttered seeing it had been there long enough Jake had almost finished his

His.mother frowned when she listened to Carmen on the phone "Oh dear...alright I'll be there soon." She said softly before hanging up the phone.

Jake looked at his dad and went a bit wide eyed "Shit...I knew I was forgetting something. I'm sorry..." he murmured giving a heavy sigh

She nodded and thanked her quietly, moving to sit down once she hung up and just gripped at her hoodie, worried sick about him until they were finally letting her back in and she went straight to sit in the chair next to the bed taking his hand in hers seeing he looked a little out of it.

Jeff sighed heavily and just shook his head, going to heat his food up and stood by the microwave, running a hand over his head, taking his food to the study to get a few jobs done and eventually sent max a goodnight when he was getting ready to head up to bed

Max woke up that next morning feeling like complete shit. She always did on this day, it never failed no matter how hard she tried to get over it. Even 23 years couldn't fully close to wound of her lost child and with her divorce so fresh it was hurting worse than it had in a long time.

Alex watched her as he came in panting softly "Hey...they're running more tests. This time on my heart." He mumbled quietly

She nodded and frowned just giving his hand a squeeze, relaxing only a little when his doctor reassured her that it was mostly as a precaution and they shouldn’t get too worried. “Your mom is on her way.” She told him quietly.

Jeff was still in bed by the time Jake was leaving for school the next day, just feeling run down and stuffy from being out in the cold for so long yesterday.

Alex gave a small nod and frowned more "She doesn't....need to stress." He said softly to her

Max got up to work and smiled softly at her first period. She waved at everyome before starting in on her lesson plan trying her best to keep her mind off of things.

She nodded. “I know but I think that makes it a good thing to get her over here. So she can see you. She’ll worry more til she sees how you’re doing.” She pointed out to him, smoothing his hair back.

Jake got in to her class for third period and sighed quietly, “Hey, my dad hasn’t called you today because he’s given himself a cold by being out in the snow til late last night. There was a vet emergency and he was out there in a T-shirt and pyjama bottoms.” He told her shaking his head some

Max frowned softly at Jake and gave a small nod "Thank you for letting me know Jake. 'Ll talk with him later, please sit down." She said quietly not really even looking at him

Alex nodded some and sighed softly "You're right." He murmured before kissing her gently "I love you."

“I usually am,.. get some rest okay?” She smiled and pecked his cheek, getting him to lay back against her again, just gently soothing him until he was asleep. It was only a short while later that his mother arrived though and she carefully got up so that he wouldn’t wake up, going to hug her. “He’s doing a little better.”


Jake just nodded and frowned some, going to take a seat and shook his head some not about to pry but ready to tell both her and his father that he was done being their messenger.

Max had sent Jeff a message while the kids were busy on the computers asking how he was feeling. She sighed softly as she tried to keep herself distracted and upbeat but as the day progressed the harder it got.

His mother got in and gave a sigh of relief when Carmen said he was doing better "Oh thank goodness. Is his chest okay? It wasn't a heart attack was it?"

She shook her head went with her to get a coffee. “No they’re running a few tests as a precaution but his doctor is sure it’s just him being stressed and his body reacting to the pain a little.” She sighed quietly. “I was giving him such a hard time about it but turns out it was serious after all.” She frowned.

Jeff finally responded by the time the school day was over and sent her a text that he was sick as a dog but if she wanted to come over so they could open a bottle of wine he was happy to drive her to the school in the morning.

Max gave a soft smile when she read his text at the end of the day. She came to his house around 5 holding his favorite sick snacks that she remembered. She gave another smile as he opened the door "Hey....I brought some snacks for you." She said softly still not fully there.

His mother sighed softly and sipped her coffee as it was given to her "Don't beat yourself up. I wouldn't have known either and would have thought the same."

He just nodded and pulled her in close, “I’d you get sick tell the school it’s my fault but I need cuddles.” He grumbled, as big a baby g as he always was when poorly.

She sighed and nodded taking her coffee as well and started walking back to the room with her to go see him.

Max laughed lightly and gave him a small nod "Fair enough." She said softly before going inside with him. She went to the couch and pulled him to lay between her legs while running her fingers through his hair.

Alex groaned quietly as he woke up giving a small smile when he saw his mom enter the room "Hey there ma...how are you doing?"

He grumbled some and just held onto her. “You need cuddles too. It’s a shit day.” He mumbled. He hadn’t forgotten, he just couldn’t let it hurt the same anymore.

Carmen smiled and went to ask his nurse a couple questions, giving them a little privacy.

“Oh Alex… and this is why I always say I worry about you…. How you feeling?” She asked him quietly, smoothing his hair out of his face.

Max nodded some taking a deep breath before letting a few tears fall "Yeah....very shit day." She said softly kissing the top of his head

Alex gave a sweet smile to her "I'm okay ma, I promise." He said softly pressimg his face to her hand

He grumbled a little, coughing some. “Donkey got its leg stuck. Ripped all the skin off the front so I had to go out and be there waiting on the vet.” He mumbled. “DONT go in snow in just your pjs.” He mumbled, playing with her hair.

She nodded and smiled some. “I’d still like you both to come to Aspen. Long as you’re good to travel. That way you see the family and carmen gets a break looking after you and you get a break from the stress of moving house.” She told him quietly.

Max laughed a bit kissing the top of his head "I'll make sure to remember that. Is y9ur donkey okay?" She asked softly

Alex gave a nod and smiled more at her "Yeah that sounds good mom, I like that idea a lot." He said softly
