As long as it's not like animals who can live on both land and water. Analette would have to stay away cause they're "impure" in her culture.
but really. . Feral T_T
Joined another rp and I named my companion Haku, as a loving nod to my baby T_T
Sorry for the long delay, this has been...quite a week.
I may have lost 2 more queens...one of the test populations utterly failed, but there were problems with those queens way before we got them...all in all, not great, and our beekeeper got a new job and is leaving, so I've been left to do the work on my own...

Geez. I hope you're able to find some help knowing the work load is no joke. Make sure to keep up with the health.
Oh, Im sorry to heart Silver :/. Are you going to be alright? That seems like a lot to place on one persons shoulders.
Oh oh! But guys! I've been batting the idea about for about 10 months, doing research etc, I've just done the budgeting aaand it is decided that I will be able to get a pair of cats next year.

Pets are just the best when you can get one and take care of it properly. I just have a bird and he brightens my day up everyday without fail~ Speaking of which I'm going to be leaving soon to get him from the vet since we had to leave him here while I went on vacation.
What kinda bird is he?

I was raised with siamese cats. They have amazing characters, they are super smart and always playful. I've made an appointment to interview a breeder for tomorrow, this one just had a cat throw a litter about 2 weeks ago ^^ Likely I won't be ready to take any of these little guys, but they'll be breeding again next spring.
D'aww, just Googled images of them and they are truly adorable little birds.
D'aww, those are adorable cats for sure. I do believe I've heard about them being smart before, too.
Just because I've volunteered at one before, is there no chance of you adopting cats at some nearby animal shelter? I know there can sometimes be complications with purebreds from personal experience and then animal shelters are always trying to find good homes for their furballs. I personally plan on adopting my first two cats from an animal shelter. Same with my corgi, mixed breed or not.
Believe me I've got opinions about adopting first ^^, I adopted my second dog and my bunny, its the best way to go if you're experienced and trust me when I say I put a lot of thought into this choice.
The thing about a pure bred siamese is really to do with reliability of character and the fact that I can meet both the parent animals and make sure the cats are raised in a healthy environment, there are more reasons but that's the short list.
So for these animals specifically, I will likely be going to a breeder, though I will put in a request at the nearest shelters for siamese kittens if they come in. This country is pretty good with animal ownership, shelters are not often full and they are run very well.
I think its really important to try and shift the mentality that pets are disposable: I've met a few people now who think its fun to let their cat get pregnant, raise the kittens and then dump them off at the nearest pet shop when they're not wanted, OR (I love this) my coworker who just got a new kitten, this is her third in 6 months because she lets her cats outdoors when she lives next to a string of busy roads...yeah, she lost 2 to cars and just bought another. There's just so much irresponsibility that perpetuates the situation. Another way is to hit the problem at its source, lobby your local government for stricter pet ownership laws and promote responsible pet breeders with good practices.
Example: I'd never go near a pet shop to buy any animal ever. From experience working at a pet shop, they get at least 60% of their dogs from mills, all of them. They can get away with this because the definition of 'breeder' is VERY loose. Its tragic, we'd get these dogs in and they were bloated and unhealthy and all of them would have diarrhea, 5% would be 'sent back' which is the lie they told us when the puppies were too sick to be sold and were euthanized (same with cats), they also reeked of rotting newspaper and dog poo. Suffice to say after I found that out I stayed a total of two weeks. My obligatory 2 weeks. Then I was out. Now that city has banned the sale of cats and dogs in pet shops, cutting off a huge market for mills and putting many out of business. I cried when that bill was passed.
Sorry, went off on a little rant there, this issue is really important to me ^^'
tldr: adoption is the best, I'm trying to address the 'the disposable pet' problem from all angles and I will adopt whenever possible. But these 2 kittens for multiple reasons will probably be bought from a breeder.
Understandable then. ^^ It is nice to be able to see the environment and know how they've been raised as opposed to animal shelters where you can only know so much about where they've lived in the past.
Yeah, I wish my parents understood that pets aren't disposable. They gave away our last two dogs without my knowledge or any of my siblings knowing since we were all in school at the time. The minute the pets are too much trouble or even damage the house enough, my parents give up on them and essentially toss 'em aside so they can take care of their house instead. I'm pretty sure my parents don't view pets and/or animals as sentient beings. Idk what they think of them, but my parents don't find it hard at all to just get rid of them when they're too much trouble. We only took the dogs to the vet one time in their entire life to do the puppy check and all that first-time stuff, but when one of them got seriously injured, my mom refused to take them to the vet because it'd be too expensive.
I've only ever bought a lizard and goldfish from the pet store. My mom did get our two guinea pigs from a pet store and they did turn out to be very healthy throughout their little lives. They only died because of an incident at their day care place. I'm not sure if I could easily find a guinea pig breeder when I move out, but I would definitely prefer to get a pair from a breeder than from a pet store. Especially since it's highly unlikely to find any guinea pigs at an animal shelter lol.
Yeah, my parents are very similar. They bought me 2 rabbits when I was about six, and when they found they had to actually help me take care of them (surprise) they gave them away when I was at school.
Finding a breeder for small mammals is actually very easy, finding a shelter that adopts them out is even easier. Just a quick google search will give you a few hits in your area, there are a lot of home-run shelters for small mammals. They're often not affiliated with state ones, but they are all over. I don't know if you have animatch in the states, but adoption organizations like that always get calls for rabbits and guinea pigs. I guess because they're small people think even less of being responsible for them when really, they need about the same level of care as a cat.
