Races


Perhaps there was a time in Fydine when all races lived separately, but no longer. While are those who remain aloof, such as the elves of Nithia and the Drow of Sha'ar, most races intermingle freely in Lansimar and Itaamar both. There are countless creatures of all sort scattered across Fydine in all walks of life. You may choose to be any race (within reason) that you wish.


















  • Mages, or professional magic-users, exist only in Lansimar. To become a Mage, a magic-user must have passed the Mage Exam at the Tower of High Sorcery. Once they have passed the Exam, they receive a Magename and earn the right to wear robes. For the sake of this RP, all Mages will be teachers from the SCME. This means that they earn a salary for teaching apprentices--each Mage is placed with one or two apprentices and tasked with the job of education that apprentice. When the apprentice is ready, he or she will take the Exam.


    An Apprentice is any magic-user that is training under a Mage-master. They are often school-aged children, but sometimes older depending on when their education began. They come from all over Fydine from all sorts of backgrounds to the SCME to be matched with a Mage-master and learn control over their magic.


    An Archmage is an elite mage, chosen from the ranks of the most skilled and powerful Mages. New Archmages are chosen by the current Archmages--the Magical community is small enough that, for the most part, any Mage who is active in it is like to receive due attention if he or she is exceptional. Their ranks are limited and very difficult to join: oftentimes a Mage will be asked to prove him or herself by the Archmages in a unique way. The Archmages reside in the Tower of High Sorcery. It is their job to administer the Mage Exam to apprentices, to oversee magical happenings in Fydine, and to research magic both new and old. Very rarely an Archmage will have an apprentice of their own--though many apprentices apply to be taken in by the Tower, only the most promising are granted that privilege.

APPEARANCE|Bearing a height of around 5'7, Marcella is an intimidating figure in the midst of a battle. Wispy ebony hair graze against shaped cheekbones, roughly chopped just below her shoulders. Mars' muddy green eyes tend to absorb her surroundings in a matter of a few minutes, they are incredibly noticeable against the whiteness of her skin which is almost always behind a polished helmet during training in which she spends the majority of her days doing hence very hale and surprisingly very smooth considering the amount of times she's got bashed about.


Her broad shoulders and muscular figure is to be expected from hours of hauling heavy things, slicing up straw people, shooting arrows and running through rough terrain. Marcella tends to have her hair in a simple ponytail or curled on fancier occasions. The woman is inclined to dress in finery and paint her lips when it appeals to her, one does get weary of being behind armor for so long.



QUIRKS|Sometimes she even wears her makeup beneath the helmet for her own pleasure. It's a secret though.

BIOGRAPHY|With her mother passing away on the battlefield when she was just twelve, Marcella sought to follow in her footsteps and take on an occupation as a soldier in the army situated in the capital city of Nalomi in which she has lived her whole life in. Her father, ever supportive of his daughter, tutored her in the skill of wielding daggers and hand-to-hand combat at fifteen when her aspiration became the youth's driving force. Although he was encouraging toward her, Mr. Kensington would occasionally disappear on her for weeks on end to get drunk with the other fishermen in their city and fish for seafood to sell in order to earn income which slowly trickled in small amounts.


The girl was left to her own devices alone on their small plot of land for farming. With much time on her hands after leaving school at seventeen. Time which she passed by trawling with her father, painting, training and tending to the livestock, her favorite being 'Mint' the family stallion, who remains her faithful steed till this very day.



At twenty-one Marcella enrolled into training in the army as a private, slowly but surely the soldier made her way up the ranks. All the while tolerating sexist behaviors from various male and some female comrades, grueling drills under unfavorable environments and in the end proving herself to be a loyal, trustworthy and brave trooper. Later on, becoming promoted to Lieutenant soldier at the age of twenty-four. Having a history of knightly relatives, and a female knight as a mother their family faced much fire and disagreement against them. Mars is fed up with it all, she has seen too much of the anger and fear in the world despite this her hope for a better world burns brighter than ever.



Now that news of a battle between dark forces has spread like wildfire throughout Fydine, Marissa is ready to cross the river for the first time and fight for the good in the world which she has vowed to protect until death.






PERSONALITY|Thought to be rather stoic and obedient toward commands, she is largely despised by lower ranks for apparently trying too hard to please the commander. Which is partially true only because she is determined to prove her worth. Her courageous, enchanting soldier of a mother forever standing as a figurehead and role model whom she holds in her highest esteem.


Despite nasty rumors that she is fully aware of, Marcella does not pay much attention to their hearsay and instead reinforces her stone barriers day by day, behind which a gentle, fragile soul really lies.



She's afraid that one day those walls might just be torn down.






Never one to shy away from challenge and becomes easily angered by those that insult herself and those of lower status. Evidently, only she is permitted to do so toward the newly enrolled. The Lieutenant will not hesitate to defend those she feels deeply for and on days where she is in a pleasant mood will happily engage in conversation with people she finds intriguing.

William seems to possess a fairly fit physique in terms of man of his age. Time took his toll, as he seems to be, in some aspects, not as fit as he was in his earlier years. However, this doesn't hinder his swordfighting skills, not will it restrict the limits of his actual strength. In a more concise way, he's quite balanced, but leans on the muscular side a bit. He can be seen as quite an intimidating, seeing as his height is about 6'3", whilst his approximate weight is 196 lb. He can be easily identified, aside from his facial appearance, by a rather long scar running down from the uppermost areas of his left arm, which runs from his wrist to to his elbow. It was seemingly inflicted by a bear, or so he claims. Ironically, he received the injury whilst he was out hunting bears for sport, and his guards proved to be quite incompetent, and the rest is quite obvious.



WEAPON


He carries your typically long zweihander, mostly used by mercenaries of an European descent, some people find it odd for a man in his age to use such a heavy weapon, however, he considers it as a weapon he's connected with and knows how to properly use, seeing as he's been using this same weapon since he started his military career. And to top that off, this weapon isn't actually that heavy, seeing that it's manufactured from one of the most effective steel in the lands. Other than that, he seldom seems to use a bastard sword, with a scabbarb of course, coupled with a kite shield which is slung on the guige strap across his back when not actively in use.





BIOGRAPHY


(This excerpt was taken from a short biography he had written in a personal journal, few soldiers have knowledge of this, and are either high-ranked or close friends.)


I'll try to keep this fairly brief and short, for I don't want to riddle whomever reads this with unsightly burdens, that is, if anyone ever manages to read this. I do know, that there are better writers out there in this lands, but I do not happen to he one well-versed in the art of literature, yet I'll do my best to keep up with this year's literature significance.


I was born in the Lansimar district of Fydine, to two people, whom I consider my biological parents, of course, that's quite obvious. If there was a distinct separation or racial differences of people in Fydine, I'd be classified as a hybrid of both Itaamar and Lansimar. Although in more depth, I'd rather be loosely classified as a elve-human hybrid. Seeing as after my in-depth research and analysis of my ancestry, has led me to believe that some of my ancestors in a time long past, have been elves, which somewhat dictates that I have elve blood running in my veins, although to a somewhat lesser extent.



My parents have told me, that I was a fairly vigorous and ambitious kid who had dreams of becoming a general, and that happened to be true, but I won't dwell on that matter for too long. My childhood wasn't riddled with any dramatic errors or problems, and I must say, it did go fairly easy and good, with only a few simply bumps here and there, pretty trivial matter. My dreams of enlisting in the army, had moved on away in my more later years, growing an appreciation for the more artistic careers, and a love for music. My parents were fairly disappointed at my future life choices, seeing as my father wanted me to be exactly like him, a military soldier, not a scholar or a historian. My figurative pathway took a drastic drift, as I took on to enlist in the army, at the bright age of 21.



My time in the military was quite long. At my more earlier years in this career, I was often touted by many to be most confident and cheerful person, seeing as most people that surrounded me were war veterans, experienced soldier, or if talking about recruits here, they were brats and misfits at their best. I fear I may have been dragging this matter for way too long than what I first planned on writing, and as such, I'll proceed to a more tense part of my life. My years in the army took a mental toll on me, I lost my cheerfulness, which was soon replaced by a bold and straightforward attitude, coupled with a bitter rage. Even my fond appreciation for music steadily withered away.



In my mid-30's, I was already a bright captain by then. I met a fine woman, with whom I acquainted myself with for a year or so, before finally marrying her. If I may be as bold as to be frank, I finally ended up with two sons.



My experience on the field had greatly increased, having been on the job for a few years, not that I ever left my career to retired, no. Most people tend to do it rather quickly, but I clung onto my job with great determination. As I'd foreseen, I quickly grew up to the rank of general, a fine rank it was, but my hopes of becoming a battlemaster were quickly extinguished, as the position was already taken. I choked my hopes down, before just aspiring to be a good general. Seeing as there was a rare moment of peace in the lands, I finally came to grow a more better personality, or if I more precisely described it, a more composed nature. I wasn't the aggressive and hot-headed man anymore, I had indeed outgrew my shell, but I did retain that confidence, idealism and vigour, all of which were the better virtues my old self fervently held.



But as the years moved ahead, which is the present, or that of the time I'm writing this now, times of great distress flood this lands. The coming of a greater evil is sensed and directly shown, as I wait with bated breath for its disappearance, although I do know that it cannot be done without a few sacrifices, and for which, I'm greatly distressed, knowing that I cannot foresee the future for the fate of Fydine now lies on the abysmal depths of the unknown.






PERSONALITY


If he was to be described within a sentence, he'd best be distinguished as a vigorous and energetic individual, who's brimming with confidence, and doesn't let his age get in the way of his endeavours. Nevertheless, he's a really benevolent individual, who isn't lacking in terms of magnanimity, and who has reformed rather quickly from his old attitude, an aggressive and hot-headed nature he did possess in his earlier years. He's also quite composed and cool-headed, taking time to decide an action and planning it ahead, and as such, he may also be a bit slow in decision making, but he's also careful not make a choice that's completely reckless. He also has a cheery attitude whenever the time doesn't require it, or when he's near his close friends or families, but otherwise, he has a pragmatic disposition, yet, he also seems to be quite idealistic of the future and his numerous endeavours.


He's quite patriotic to his nation, although not overtly to a crazy extent. He's also quite a quick learner, and a bit on the witty side too, however, this side of his personality is one of his lesser shown ones. However he may be calm, everyone in this whole world is prone to anger, and as such, he gets quite blunt whenever he's extremely irritated. Other than that, he also seems to have a, and as mentioned above, a very energetic and enthusiastic personality.

MAGIC: Reiner’s curse grants him much enhanced physical capabilities, especially in regards to strength, agility, and durability as well as granting him the ability to see in the darkness and a sort of slow physical regeneration.The curse also grants him many characteristics of the undead. Poisons and spells designed to harm, specifically through the use of dark or demonic magic, heal him while healing spells and potions, such as light magic, are deadly. The main ability the curse grants Reiner is the ability to suck the life and mana out of other people in order to heal his own wounds or further increase his physical abilities. By varying the rate of absorption Reiner can make this an immensely painful experience or a nigh-unnoticeable one. He can also use it to incapacitate rather than kill should he so desire. Due to this, Reiner is unable to use magic himself. If a mage or other being that is well in-tune with magic were to stand near him for an extended period of time they would feel as if they were being tainted by the curse, kind of like if they were standing in a bog filled with poisonous fumes but in regards to magic. That said, it is just a highly unpleasant feeling and does no lasting harm. Reiner is, because of the curse, physically unable to eat, drink, or sleep and no longer ages. Instead he is kept alive by the curse itself. His sense of pain is also incredibly dulled by the curse. In fact, due to him not needing to eat he also has no need to breath, though he does so artificially so as not to arouse suspicion. Also, should one check, they'll find that he had not heartbeat either. Should Reiner be struck down he will be resurrected by the curse about a day later unless very strong, as in archemage level or higher, holy magic is used to purify him within this time. Should weaker magic be used it will at most delay his resurrection.


COMBAT STYLE: Reiner is incredibly skilled in many forms of combat due to his long life but he is primarily a close-up fighter. He has also, over the years, become accustomed to fighting mages and as such is quite skilled at it, though he often finds it very troublesome, especially in the case of light mages.


APPEARANCE: Reiner has messy black hair with bangs that go down to about his eyes shoved off to the side. His eyes are a dark blood red and seem to glow and flicker slightly as if on fire. He has a light dusting of stubble on his face, but it isn’t too thick. He stands 5’9” (175.26cm) tall and weighs 172 lbs. (~78 kg). That said, he is built rather lean and thus his frame doesn’t really reflect his weight. Reiner is an handsome man in a rugged way, but his looks are often marred by the nigh-constant lazy, mocking smile on his face. On his back is a large red and black rune wheel (think Norse runes) that glows in the same manner as his eyes. A serpent, with the same sort of runes on its body and the same coloration, extends from the rune wheel and wraps around his right arm arm, ending with its mouth open halfway between his elbow and wrist. He also has a tattoo of a sword with the words “All will be made well” on the blade on the inside of his right arm. He wears a black coat that extends to his knees and is belted at the waist. He also wears a grey shirt and pants and black boots. He wears fingerless gloves under his gauntlets as well as a metal ring inscribed with runes on a cord around his neck.


WEAPONS: Reiner carries a one-handed bearded axe on his back. He also carries a boot knife in his right boot as well as a large knife with a knuckle guard, almost a short sword, on the back of his belt. Finally Reiner wears dark metal punching gauntlets that go to his elbows and have short pyramidal spikes on the knuckles over the sleeves of his coat. The gauntlets are made of an extremely strong yet light metal that is also highly resistant to magic.

BIOGRAPHY: Reiner was born to Thomas and Cassandra Fulke, a pair of mercenaries who traveled with a band made up of other mercenaries in Itaamar. However, when Cassandra became pregnant the pair left the band and settled down to raise their son, his father working around the village as a village watchman As soon as Reiner could hold a weapon his parents began to teach him to fight, something that Reiner proved to have a knack for at an early age. They also taught him other skills such as how to survive in the wilderness, basic cooking, lockpicking, essentially all the skills a mercenary needs. Predictably, when Reiner was old enough in their eyes (he was 15) they began to take him out on jobs with them, starting off with easy ones before progressing to harder and more rewarding jobs as Reiner got more and more experienced. One thing to note is that at this point Reiner and his family travelled a lot, going across the river several times. As such, Reiner never developed a fear of magic like many of his countrymen as he was able to see that it was a tool, whether it was used for good or evil entirely depended on the wielder, just like a sword. When Reiner turned 20 he broke off from his parents and began his own career as a mercenary. However, on his second job on his own Reiner was contracted to enter a cave and bring back an amulet for a noble in Lanismar. Even though the pay seemed too high for a job that seemed to be very easy Reiner didn’t question it due to both greed and inexperience in actually choosing jobs. As such Reiner set out, finding the cave in a very remote area and entering it to find what appeared to be a tomb. Blinded by the thought of his payday Reiner disregarded the carvings around the tomb which admonished potential grave robbers and warned of a great punishment should anything be taken. He quickly found the amulet in question on a skeleton, presumably of the owner of the tomb, and grabbed it. Due to the fact that nothing happened immediately Reiner figured that the carvings were just a bunch of bullshit designed to scare people and thus turned to leave. The moment he stepped out of the cave though, he felt a searing pain in his right hand in which he was holding the amulet. He tried to drop it but he found that he couldn’t. Looking down he saw, to his horror, a line of red and black runes began to snake from the amulet and wrap their way around his arm, moving up towards his body. As this happened the pain grew and grew until Reiner’s voice became hoarse from screaming, at which point he blacked out. Once he awoke he saw that the runes remained on his body and the amulet was cracked. Terrified he went back into the tomb and tried to give the amulet back but there was no response. Getting unsteadily to his feet he left the cave and tried to see the noble again but was turned away at the gate. Not knowing what else to do Reiner went to the tavern to try to drink himself piss drunk. This endeavor failed, for when he took a drink the ale simply vanished in his mouth, he could neither taste it nor swallow it. Reiner then tried frantically over the next few days to find someone to tell him what the hell was going on but was turned away at every door, the noble having spread the word of what had happened. Eventually, Reiner, terrified and hopeless, was at his wit’s end and tried to break into the house of a sorcerer to demand answers. He was caught by the guards and when he fought back, injuring one of the guards, another stabbed him in the chest, killing him. Imagine Reiner’s fear and surprise when he woke up the next day in a grave. He clawed his way out and ran for days, neither eating nor sleeping as he felt the need for neither. He thought about contacting his parents but decided not to for fear that they would reject him too. He spent the next 10 years searching all around, never aging, for a way to lift the curse like a man possessed. It was only when he learned that his parents had died during a job, thinking that he was dead, that he stopped looking. During his mourning Reiner realized that he didn’t care about lifting the curse anymore. His search for just that had deprived him of the chance to see his parents one more time before they had died. Collecting himself Reiner began to experiment with the curse in order to learn more about it and, eventually, he came to accept it as a part of himself. He then went back into mercenary work. Eventually, a prophecy came down to the people, boding of war. Figuring it was a good chance to make some money Reiner began to head to where armies were gathering to find work.


PERSONALITY: On the surface Reiner is very sardonic, cynical, and facetious. These traits, coupled with his disregard for authority and good manners can make him rather difficult to get along with. But if you manage to gain his trust and friendship in order to see below the surface you will realize that he is a somewhat lonely man with a wry sense of humor.


Due to his long life and many experiences Reiner tends to take most things in stride and is rarely fazed by the occurrences around him, though he tends to be more surprised by good events than bad ones. Reiner likes peace and quiet and is more comfortable at night than in the daytime. Reiner has come to terms with his curse and accepts it as a part of him, though he does occasionally miss being able to eat. Reiner tends not to associate with people of his own accord but doesn't go out of his way to avoid it.



Furthermore, Reiner doesn't especially care about the fate of either country and the people therein, in fact Reiner doesn't really much care for people and generally does what he wants. Furthermore, Reiner has no special respect for mages, treating them like he would anyone else. Reiner also has no fear of death, having lived as long as he has. That said, he has no desire to go out easy and will thus not throw his life away. Rather, he intends to go kicking, screaming, and dragging someone else down with him.



Reiner also tends to keep his distance from healers, light mages, and paladins mainly due to the fact that they make him a bit uneasy due to his curse. He has nothing against them and their work, so long as there work doesn't involve him in said work that is.

  • Biography


    The student is reluctant to give details about her life prior to S.C.M.E., previous profiles note a strong aversion to having her wings touched or approached, suggesting previous wing-related trauma.*


    Previous student interviews were able to determine that Lindzi was some sort of changeling, and that the humans she was left with became hostile upon discovery of her true nature. Considering the average growth patterns of pixies, it's believed that problems arose upon wing growth, which typically occurs around the age of four or five. Coupled with her above mentioned trauma and taking into account that her medical profile lists no wind injuries since she arrived at S.C.M.E., it is believed that one or both of her human parents attempted to tear or rip her wings off.



    Wings, specifically those of a membrane or skin like texture, are often quite fragile. The wings of pixie's for example rip quite easily, especially in younger patients. Pixie wings are covered in small veins and connected to the rest of the body by much larger ones. A rip or tear in a wing is considered a life threatening and catastrophic injury. Without treatment, a patient can bleed our in a matter of minutes if the damage is severe enough. Further reading can be found on page 348 of this text.

Weapon of Choice: A katana made of holy steel which is extremely dangerous to daemons and the like. An ancient blade that was once an heirloom to his family - now, he wields it as it was originally intended to be used.


Alternate Weapons: The wakizashi that completes the daishō pairing with his katana. While the katana has not been altered since its completion many centuries ago, the wakizashi was reforged by the Vatican. Special grooves along the blade connect to a hollow compartment at the base of the hilt; vials of holy water, oil or blood can be inserted into this compartment. A tiny mechanism is triggered when a point on the hilt is pressed, which breaks the vials and thus coats the blade with a continuous drip of blessed material.Gil has a collection of small fighting blades which he switches out regularly. He is capable of fighting Mages though he finds it troubling as he can only heal.


Magic: White Magic: 100% Healing


Combat Style: It is said that Gil's strongest fighting style is when he uses both blades simultaneously. It is ALSO said that if he reaches for the wakizashi, it's best to keep out of striking range... better yet, just leave to watch from somewhere far away. Because of his age he is extremely skilled in combat and even managed to go toe to toe with a King of Hell (though he didn't WIN) for a long period of time. He is the church's ultimate weapon, this also earned him the alias- The Vatican's Dog.

Personality:

On duty and off duty: Alcide is a man whom separates work from play. In battle, he's been able to stash away the parts of him which make him a decent man, The battleground does not require sympathy for the wicked and it is well known that Gil's fighting competence is nay on par with the best. An unspoken vendetta lives within Gil. He harbors great hatred for all daemon and eradicates them with something akin to vicious glee at any opportunity. The fire of a warrior burns brightly in him; likewise, Gil's been ruthlessly molded to the church's will. He obeys his orders without question, gives no qualms if his life is put at stake and makes no fuss if a task is menial/below his station.


Luckily, he is not a mindless brute. His sizzling intellect devours manuscripts and books as though they're a means to calm restless, energetic spirit. However, he detests typical teachings (or the methods used to teach them, maybe) and is barely educated past middle school level in basic math and science. Demonology, history or literature? He's all over it. The former is a particularly strong interest of his, not unusual given his past and capabilities. He has a mind for tactics and economics, but prefers to let others work out the finer details unless he's mid-battle.



Gil looks after those around him like a Shepherd would his flock. Fair, protective and even genteel, there's no doubt that Gil enjoys company but finds it difficult to connect beyond basic acquaintanceship. His rapid rise in ranks has left him somewhat awkward at social functions, for all that his master tried to smack sense into him. Blame his obsession with training and fighting; his high rank and relative youth puts him oddly between the stage of teacher and student. Not that he's a total loss: he can dance, carry on small conversation and recite old, funny stories like most. Sometimes, he'll even give in and play an instrument when begged long enough. He'll open up over a good ale or vintage. More so when bribed with some of his favorite foods. His appetite is as tremendous as his fighting prowess - he'll eat five meals a day if he can.



Gil is especially gentle and kind around children, whom may crawl all over him without worry of reprimand. They remind him of a past he can only see in glimpses now. He yearns to overcome a growing demon living inside him, something born of fear, hate and sheer loneliness. He seeks peace and solitude when his duties are fulfilled; meditation has grounded him in recent years.

Perhaps it wasn't the significant clustering of Umbra and the continuous certainty of a Demon Beast outbreak that doomed Cirio Mendi, but the preparation for its destruction. The Vatican had been monitoring the seaside village for years. Twelve years passed and nothing out of the ordinary occurred - the village was peaceful between the occasional sighting of lesser daemons. Those dispatched by the Church all reported that while Umbra presence was very high, little changed from year to year. So, the watch lessened, the vice grip of fear loosened and the villagers felt relief. They were all refugees, those of Cirio Mendi. Brought together over the past century after their homes were forced out or devastated by daemons. This place, they thought, would be safe despite the Vatican's wariness.



And for a lack of better description, on a dim and foggy winter morning, all Hell broke loose.



Sacerdos Millius Mark Alcrombe III, first son of the esteemed Viscount Alcrombe II and one of the greatest fighters of the time, was the first to reach Cirio Mendi after the word of an attack was heard. He arrived in time to watch red flames touch the sky and black smoke spread across the horizon: the village was all but razed to the ground. Reinforcements arrived, but there was no hope of saving the village. It was gone. Man, woman, child - all presumed to have perished by the hands of a single, but brutal daemon. A Greater Daemon, possibly Level C, but even now the Vatican won't say whether it appeared on its own or not. When Alcrombe emerged from the battle, he was short a hand... but he was carrying a limp, nearly-dead child. The child, scarcely six years old, clung to a long parcel wrapped in burnt silk. He didn't wake until eight days afterward, surprising everyone but Alcrombe, whom had stayed at the boy's side each day for several hours. Many had believed smoke inhalation or his injuries would send him to join the rest of Cirio Mendi in heaven. Lo and behold, he woke and Alcrombe soberly relayed the news of Cirio Mendi's destruction to the child.



The boy spoke only once before falling unconscious again. After, Alcrombe reportedly sent a notice to the Vatican. He would be returning to headquarters, but he wouldn't be returning alone.
