Detectives

Running towards the Hostess who started yelling for the police at the front door Aria quickly grabbed her by the shoulder's and started scanning her for any damages. "Are you okay? Does it hurt anywhere?" She asked concern as she looked at the mark the knife left on her neck. Peeking outside she was that people were already surrounding the place, ambulance, police cars and even some random people who stopped just to watch the whole drama commence. "Okay come go to that ambulance over there.." She pointed towards the nearest ambulance and urged her to check the mark for it already had a few cuts. "Go."

Glancing back at James she saw that he successfully managed to drive the knife away from the perpetrator leaving him weaponless and defenseless against James' attacks. With relief she took a deep sigh and threw James a Handcuff she always had since the Chief handed her 'equipment' earlier this morning. "Here..."

(lol its okay. I thought you just lost interest and chose not to respond. lol)
(@DanDanDan in case you didn't get a notif too..)

James grabbed the handcuffs Aria threw and in just a few seconds he had apprehended the man and had him in handcuffs. Once he was stabilized, James got up and pulled the man up with him. "He's right here," he called out to the police. Even though he was a detective he was still on break and wouldn't be able to actually drive the criminal back to the station to be thoroughly interrogated.

The restaurant had to be shut down for the day while the gas that the man released cleared up. Thankfully no one was forced to pay for their meal, much to the dismay of the restaurant owner. Some people left the restaurant happy after getting a free meal; others unhappy because they didn't get to eat or a free lunch. James was neither. "Well," he said when he was finally able to talk to Aria, "There goes our lunch hour."

Aria nodded in agreement as she stood next to James, and she agreed. There goes their lunch hours, and there goes her first encounter with a hostage taker. She felt rather proud of herself as to how she handle that. Till now it was still a bit of a shock to her how something like that could really happen on random places at anytime. "You were amazing..." She said sincerely without looking up at him, instead she kept her eyes on the ground.

"Let's go back to the office," he said, completely ignoring the comment she made about his action. He didn't even wait for her to start walking, passing her by to get back to the office as quickly as he could. He didn't like to think his work was any more special than anyone else's.

Aria frowned at him, earlier they seem to be getting along. Now what's this? Running towards him she blocked his way again as she spreads her arms to her side. "Seriously what is wrong with you?" She asked with a glare at him.

"What's wrong with me?" James actually smiled, amused. He knew he acted like an asshole most of the time but very few people actually called him out on it, let alone straight-fowardly insinuated something was particularly wrong with him. "Nothing is wrong with me. I always act like this," he said honestly. He basically shut the world out of his mind ever since Mavis's death; Shutting out Aria was nothing special to him. Even though he found her appearance to be particularly captivating, and that certain drive in her eyes really sparked something within him-- he still was determined to keep her out.

Aria couldn't even believe her ears. Its like hearing him admit to himself how much of an ass he really is. How can someone with such personality be known as a legend? Then suddenly she wondered.... What if that personality was the reason for his success? Hopefully not. Aria wanted to believe him, but she didn't. Somehow she can feel him hiding something from her. its either she's gonna find that out on her own, or he's gonna have to tell her soon. "Fine....." Aria said disappointed as she turned her back from him and started walking back to the office. "And by the way when we get back you are not gonna work on that case alone. Were in that together. I don't care whatever the hell is wrong with you but I am gonna deal with it." She spoke without bothering to look at James and continued walking.

"Whatever you say." James said, mockingly. Like most people that had dared been partnered with him after Mavis, he found them more funny than anything and had a hard time taking them seriously. To him, it sounded like a whiny kid, which only amused him more. "Do you think you'll make it far with your attitude?" He asked. He considered himself less professional in that he was able to at least find this kind of attitude more amusing than anything else, but he knew other especially anal detectives that wouldn't take anything less than perfectly professional from their partner.

"How did you make it far with your attitude?" Aria said in a teasing manner as she threw back his question. Aria didn't know why she was acting this way, its either she's just really annoyed by him, or just really doing it on purpose to piss James even more. But clearly if anything he seem more amused than getting pissed off. Aria walked ahead, but made sure that the distance between her and James weren't that far. Judging him by the way she treats aria, the possibility of him leaving her behind by taking a shortcut or riding a cab even though the office is only a few blocks away are pretty big. So Aria made sure that she was only a few feet ahead of James.

"Have you considered it is you that has an attitude?" James said, just trying to tease Aria. "Obviously my attitude didn't hinder my work, since I'm still well known with not many enemies. Perhaps you are the problem to get along with, rookie." James put his hands in his pockets, trying to keep warm. It had gotten chillier suddenly.

Aria tightened her hand in a fist as she found his teasing rather effective, she then wondered how he can make a point out of almost everything he says. How can he always be right? "Trust me as far as I can tell, and from what I saw in the office regarding how almost everyone knew who you were and how you treat your new partners. Its you with the attitude." Aria spoke keeping her eyes up ahead as she walked.

"I think I treat my partners better than most." James said, but he knew it wasn't true. His inner self was actually giggling at the ridiculousness of the statement. "They just know I'm a really good-natured guy, that's why they know of my attitude. It's laid back." Okay, James couldn't take it. He actually smiled; he knew how stupid he sounded. He thanked the heavens that Aria was walking in front of him so she couldn't see him smiling at his own childishness.

As he looked ahead, he found himself mesmerized by the swinging of Aria's ponytail. He didn't know why, but his gaze followed the hair swinging to the left, then to the right, left, right, left... it was relaxing, making him almost forget that he hadn't had lunch and was still starving. Almost. His stomach growled, so he made himself a pact to just get a salad from the cafe right next to his office and eat it as his desk. It wasn't like anyone was going to tell him he couldn't.

As Aria walked straight she made sure to make slight glances behind her to check if James actually still there. Soon enough they arrived at the office and was now walking inside the hall to take the elevator. Aria was the one to press on the 5th floor and waited seeing the elevator was still on the 10th and they were on the ground floor. Standing there she looked around finding it awkward that she and James aren't even saying anything to each other and instead just stood there waiting. Suddenly she wondered whether taking the stairs would be a better idea than this. The silence was just killing her.

"Montgomery, Jarr...." The deep familiar voice of the chief called from behind making Aria flinch. "The interrogation room... Now. A wanted person has been captured, we need you too interrogate him Jarr. Make him talk, we need to know everything he's hiding. From the weapons, stocks, and business partners, may it be politicians or not we need to know. Go. Take Montgomery with you." Quickly the chief turned around and left leaving the two of the once again.

Aria on the other hand was excited to witness a live interrogation. "You heard him right? Take.Me.With.YOU."

James sighed. There go my plans of eating at my desk, he thought to himself as his stomach growled again. "What's the alleged crime? I can't interrogate him without knowing anything about the case." He sounded annoyed, but this time it was genuine rather than the facade he had up earlier. was everyone losing their minds today?

James rolled his eyes at Aria. "Yes, yes, I know, I know. We are partners after all," he said, making air quotes at Aria when he said 'partner.' He didn't realize how childish he got when he was hungry, since no one ever really told him.

Aria smiled realizing how cute he can be when he's pissed off. "Let's just get to the IR. For sure someone there will tell us." As if on cue the elevator door opened and pressed on '9'. The elevator ride was a few second of pure awkwardness since from the ground floor until they have reached the 9th, no other people entered leaving her and James alone. Thankfully that didn't last long or Aria would have started tearing the door open just to get out.

A young man in a black shirt and faded pants handed Aria a file considering she was walking ahead and James was behind her.

"Here are his records mam." Quickly the rather attractive boy walked away but giving Aria a smile first before going, before he entered the door next to the IR he gave Aria another glance. Well so much for that. Aria opened the folder and looked at his records. "Drug dealer." She said handing James the folder.

James leafed through the file, trying to get as much information out of it before he had to go interrogate the alleged drug dealer. The man's name was Thomas "Pepper" Yancy, and apparently has been stopped for speeding by an officer. The officer noticed a particular smell associated with marijuana, and further investigation of the car with dogs revealed many other drugs had been hidden in the back. However, there was no physical evidence, and therefore not enough to convict the man.

'Well this should be a simple investigation," he said, handing Aria back the folder. "The evidence is already contain enough proof to convict him, at least of possession if not dealing. Although we may have to investigate his alleged friend later, since, according to the testimony, the car was driven around by the friend as well."

Aria nodded in everything James said and noted them. It wasn't a surprise to Aria anymore, the way he talked just now proved how much he already knows about his profession. Somehow Aria felt envious, soon she hoped she'd be as good as him. With a nod, Aria turned the knob and went inside the Clear cell. Inside was a table, two chairs on the other side and one on the other. The man seated was Caucasian, early 20's. She seats on the other side and let's James seat on the one across from Thomas. Placing the folder on the table Aria sets its aside and waited for James to speak.

"Well hello sexy..." Thomas said as he eyed Aria, his words totally catching her off guard. But she knew better, she wouldn't let him get to her. 'Asshole' She thought to herself as she cleared her throat.

"Well thank you, you know you're very attractive yourself," James knew he meant the comment to be for Aria, but he wanted to be facetious. He chuckled lightly as he stuck out a hand for Thomas to shake. "My name is James Jarr, and this is my assistant Aria Montgomery." he said, knowing exactly what he was doing calling Aria his assistant rather than a partner.

Aria raised her eyebrows as she heard him say 'Assistant'. But she chose not to argue, not now anyways but later, he is gonna get it. "Yes. Mr. Yancy, I am his assistant, which by the way till now was only notified." She said teasingly, unlike James she didn't held her hand out for Thomas. Instead she stepped on James foot from under the table.

James tried not to flinch at being stepped on. "So, Mr. Yancy, I'm sure you've already been made aware of your predicament, and sadly, the evidence is readily stacking against you. The urine sample has been taken, yes?" He said. He knew this sample would either make or break the case, since it would prove or disprove that Thomas had at least done drugs recently.

Instead of answering James' question, Thomas crossed his arms on his chest and leaned back against his chair as he kept his eyes locked on James.

"He asked you a question Mr. Yancy." Aria spoke sounding dryly as she eyed the suspect. She was more like 'studying' his every movement and as far as Aria can tell he showed at least a few physical signs of drug abuse. His face was rather puffy, blushing yet really pale, he has this habit of rubbing his nose at least twice a minute, and not to mention the frequent twisting of his jaw back and forth. Even if all of those were obvious, they still needed the test to be 100% sure.

"Please don't try to be difficult; all it does is make you look guilty." James said, actually sad. With him, is was always innocent until proven guilty (which was hypoctitcal of him since he judged all his past partners as annoying and wastes of human beings and treated them with contempt at best depsite not knowing anything about them), and it saddened him whenever someone just didn't even try to be innocent. He looked back at the file, wondering if he missed something. "So, I know you can't be silent the whole time, so I'll just keep asking questions until you answer them." James said, smiling a little, trying to be friendly. In reality, he knew if he asked the right questions, he could easily read Thomas's body movements.

Aria rolled her eyes at James and his friendly facade. Reaching over for her own copy of Thomas' records she read through some of it and made notes to herself mentally.

"Whatever." Thomas answered lazily. Still keeping his eyes on Aria he leaned his arms on the table and stared at her. "Are you like. Goin out or nah? If not then you and I can hook up aight?" Thomas said with a wink at Aria.

Aria in return cringed her nose at the sight and at what she was hearing, guys like him are what keeping her away from dating. And no not the oh so obvious druggie type, but the over confident assholes who would almost say anything they want to the girl their hitting on. "Just answer the coming questions please so we can get out of here."

"Actually, she's my girlfriend." James said, making the lie up on the fly. He realized Thomas was one of the types that liked annoying people, feeling superior to others, so he wanted to stroke that ego a bit. If he let him think he was annoying them, he might drop something. James's expression turned a little defensive. "I'd appreciate if we talked about something other than my significant other slash assistant."

"Actually, she's my girlfriend."

The moment James spoke those four words Aria found herself coughing in surprise and clasping her hand to her mouth. She stayed like that for a while till in finally escalated to her, as if nothing happened she sat back up straight. From surprised and shock she was back to her serious, emotionless expression. She can tell though that it worked, Thomas then sat back again leaning against the chair with his arms crossed over his chest, his face went bored and serious.

"I didn't do shit." He spoke, this time looking at James. At least he had the decency to back off if the girl is someone's girlfriend, Aria thought.
