「 Eric Frieder before the incident. 」

After the incident inside the particle collider, Eric now exists as a bright-green floaty, formless mass of strange matter with no distinguishing features. Without any organs, he no longer requires sustenance nor most human necessities to function. It is only thanks to his special exosuit that he can retain a humanly-shaped appearance. He wears a suit and jacket over his exosuit but what's underneath is something akin to a mummy in terms of looks. Additionally he wears a hat along with his most distinguishable article of clothing: a gas mask.
    PERSONALITY
A sullen and sardonic sort of character, Eric is primarily defined by his deep-seated and ineradicable guilt stemming from his origins as an atomic physicist working under the Nazi party in the early days of World War II. His work of which led to many tragedies and the countless deaths of innocent lives. He frequently suffers "waking nightmares" as a result of this experience, although he's learned to somewhat live with it as they aren't as terrifying or paralyzing as they once were. Working for the U.S. government was his way to lessen some of that guilt; even if he believes he'll always be haunted by it.

Despite being regularly taciturn, Eric is not an unfriendly or disagreeable person. He's a notably loyal individual to those he deems his allies, specifically the other members of the Death Squad. He's also rather non-confrontational when it comes to verbal disputes, preferring to keep his opinions to himself and letting things work themselves out. He finds comfort and meditation in bonsai-tending: a hobby he picked up during a visit to Japan in his younger years.

His demeanor toward criminals, villains, and what he sees as the general scum of society is often, if not always, violent. Like many of his peers, Eric is not above killing—a trait naturally developed during the numerous assassination missions he's taken part in as a member of the Death Squad. He sees it as a necessary tool in order for "goodness" to win. Because of this perspective, he has disdain for methods he views as half-measures.
    BACKSTORY
Born in Munich to well-off parents, Eric's childhood was one of prestigious education and he, himself, was considered to be somewhat of a wunderkind. As he grew, so did his talents in the field of science. At the age of twenty, Eric had become a renown atomic physicist and had won several distinguished awards for his study of the atomic model. It wasn't long before the German National Socialist party approached him for recruitment.

Although at first reluctant, the prospect of an essentially unlimited grant to fund his research was too great to ignore and so he accepted their offer. But he was ignorant to the fact that his dreams would be built on the suffering of millions. All of his research and experimentations were fueling the creation of German weapons to be used in the upcoming war. In the Summer of '38, Eric married a woman named Helen Becker and the two of them had a child the following year whom they named Elise.

Some time later, he would uncover all of the horrors his research had wrought; seeing firsthand how weapons built on his designs were used to experiment on Jewish prisoners including women and children, and that they were being shipped to the battlefields. He wanted nothing more to do with the Nazis but they would not let him go so easily, even going as far as threatening his wife and child.

During one stormy night, a drunken Eric and his assistant were working on an early prototype of a particle collider and, in his despair, Eric locked himself in a glass chamber that was part of the machine—perhaps an attempted suicide. When the machine ran its sequence, so much pressure and heat was created in that chamber that his body was atomized into a formless mass of strange matter. At first, his assistant thought him to be dead, but soon Eric's consciousness came back to life, existing within the green mass.

Over the next few days, Eric's assistant would use that same machine to create a special exosuit which could contain Eric's new, dangerous form. As it turned out, Eric's assistant was a spy for the Allies; his real identity being that of John Avery, the leader of what would later be the Death Squad. He convinced Eric that he could protect his family and help them escape Germany if Eric would be willing to help the Allies. He agreed and, after discovering that his new form granted him superhuman abilities, was later recruited to join the eponymous Death Squad.

But as a trade off, Eric Frieder was no longer counted among the living. His family would be taken care of as promised but he could no longer be with them. He had nothing left but his grief and anger which he would channel in his battle against the Nazis and their allies. After the war, a "man" in his condition had no life to live. The greatest kindness the government could give him was to put him into hibernation along with the others. They built a chamber that would send his molecular structure into a suspended state, allowing him to "sleep" and await the day he and the other members of the Death Squad would be needed once again.

PROFILE
The former leader and handler of the superhuman assassination team known colloquially as the "Death Squad". John Avery was an intelligence officer for the United States government and also worked closely with the Allies' joint coalition for Bioweapon development—the creators of the first Superhumans. Like the Death Squad itself, John mostly operated in secrecy with countless successful missions decorating his now-expunged records. Before the war, he worked as a surgeon, earning him the moniker "Doc". Once assigned to lead the Death Squad, he quickly gained their trust and respect; fostering a close friendship with the team. His leadership was considered paramount in the squad's innumerable successes. After the war ended, it was reported that John had retired from active duty; bound to the same strict code of silence as the others. John's current status is unknown but it is likely that he has died of natural causes. John was considered a human with no superhuman abilities.

  • Real Name:
    Rosalie Leblanc
    Main Alias:
    The Living Dead
    Other Aliases:
    Zombie, Ghoul, Undead
    Age:
    101 (physically 22)
    Gender:
    Female
    Date of Birth:
    September 27, 1919
    Height / Weight:
    5'5" (165 cm) / 140 lbs (63 kg)
    Alignment:
    True Neutral
    Personality:
Rosalie, before anything else, is experienced. She's almost literally seen it all, including a couple lifetimes worth of having to leave friends and family behind. As a result. she is a quite private person, with the deepest connection she's held in the past ten years being a store clerk who's seen her drop thousands of dollars on cigarettes over the years. Despite her sour experience with life, she tends to actually enjoy company when she allows herself to have it. There's always a conversation to be had, even if it's in chance encounters throughout everyday life.

When she was still a part of Death Squad, the team knew her as the one to crack jokes, often even if the situation called for something far more serious. She kept things lighthearted, despite their line of work. Most of the team - especially those not directly a part of the field team - put up with what they assumed was simply a humor-based coping mechanism for her line of work, mostly due to her age. However, the test of time would prove that she cared not that they were supposedly on the right side of history. To her, it was simply a promise of being allowed to do whatever kind of research she wanted. The source of the pay didn't matter. There simply happened to be greater job security in working with the "good guys."
    Backstory:
Rosalie Leblanc's early years were mostly accompanied by the "crazy years," or the Roaring Twenties as known in America. Her family had benefited greatly from that time period. As a result, she lived a quite pampered life for her first decade or so. However, she tends to remember very little of that part of her life, given her age and the decade that would follow. During a family trip for her tenth birthday, a mugging gone poorly left her orphaned and without any immediate family.

Despite her family's supposed wealth, Rosalie was left with nothing, and was left in orphan care during the more formative years of her life. Unfortunately, she was never lucky enough to find a new family, and instead left the system on her own when she came of age. She was well on her way to making a career and name for herself in the world of science, when she was approached by the allied side of the war in order to put her expertise to use in ending the conflict.

Initially, she was hesitant to participate in the war effort, but eventually gave into the pressures and promises. After being successfully recruited, Rosalie was set on developing a sort of pseudo-super soldier serum. An enhancement to the body's ability to heal itself. It was never officially cleared for use due to concerns over potential side effects , but curiosity got the better of those who knew about it. Safety concerns got brushed under the rug, and Rosalie conducted the experiment on herself. After all, her own work should be something she's willing to use on her own?

Of course, the serum did not work completely as intended, and knowledge of the project was relatively quickly tossed out as being not viable for large scale production, but the damage was done on Rosalie's body. However, a new opportunity arose because of it, and she was recruited for the Death Squad.

After the war, Rosalie was one who chose not to go under. Her logic was that her mind wouldn't be of much use while frozen. She would go on to continue living a life as a scientist throughout the years, often being a driving factor in the often intertwined fields of biology and chemistry over the years. Oftentimes not for the "right" side of history.

Personality: Rash, good at nothing but violence but still sitting there dreaming of a better world she can help create. She feels fiercely, loving and hating with equal intensity and little in between. It's a trait that's always been with her, same as her need to be taken seriously and her penchant for doing stupid things knowing full well just how stupid and suicidal they are- She can't see someone suffer and not put her neck out to save them if she can. She couldn't live with herself if she didn't do everything she could to protect those around her. She believes strongly, hopefully, but not naively. It's hard to be naive when you've seen the horrors she has.

personality
.
Matt is charismatic, charming, and he loves being in the spotlight. He's a bit of a people pleaser who has a strong desire to be liked by absolutely everyone.
But he also doesn't shy away from confrontation when he feels like something isn't right and he has to speak up about it.
He can be very stubborn and hot-headed and he needs to get his way in an argument.
Matt is an incredibly competitive person, as well as a really sore loser.
He has a bit of an ego and it's easily bruised. Despite his occasional arrogance and cockiness, he is a very empathetic person who feels devoted to helping people whenever he can.
Even though he practically feeds off of the public's adoration and gets off on trending hashtags on Twitter about his latest heroics, he's genuinely passionate about wanting to make a difference in this world.
Matt has a cheerful disposition, cracking jokes at every opportunity and generally keeping things light-hearted.
He has an extroverted personality and can be described as thrill-seeking, fun-loving and energetic.
Sometimes he struggles with keeping his mouth shut and he has a bit of a problem with not thinking before he speaks, saying whatever pops into his head at any given moment.
He's been blessed with an exorbitant amount of confidence, one might even say it's a bit too much for his own good.
He seemingly never gets tired of talking and can go on about any given topic for ages if not interrupted.
He has a very optimistic outlook on life and tries to see the positive side to everything.
He lives by a very strict moral code about what's right and wrong, to the point where he unfortunately sees some complex issues as pretty much black and white.
When fighting crime, he's really a "punch first, ask questions later" kind of guy and he does get enjoyment out of giving criminals a good ass-kicking.
But he's never... k-worded anyone before.
The rules of conduct for being a member of the Minute Men strictly forbid it. And even if it weren't for that simple fact, it would never in a million years even cross his mind to take somebody else's life. Even the thought of it makes him shudder.

Speaking of the Minute Men, he's starting to grow more and more disillusioned with the group.
Being led by the government, it's bureaucratic and restrictive to the point where he feels like he doesn't get to do as much "saving people" as he would like... but it's also a cutthroat environment where if you don't deliver in a fight like you used to, or don't say what they want you to say in a press interview, don't kiss up to a superior superhero or member of the board enough or, god forbid, drop out of public favor, let your stats drop... there will be consequences. Deviation from the rules will be punished accordingly, no exceptions. It says so in the contract he signed.
Unfortunately, that's exactly what Matt did.
He got into a heated argument with the leader of his group, questioning the morality of a mission in [classified] and why they won't try and help out [redacted] instead, because not helping would mean certain ■■■■■ for those people.
For that offense, Matt honestly thinks that they went easy on him. He's been assigned to a special task; apparently, there's a secret group of superheroes who were cryogenically frozen at the end of WW2 and they're going to be getting defrosted soon. And who better than him to help in the process of reacclimatizing the dinosaurs.
But, there is still a chance for him to return. His official title as a member of the group has not been revoked and his managers have made it abundantly clear that he just needs to do a good job on this assignment, prove that he can still be trusted and bring value to the group, and he can easily get back his coveted spot on the team with no issues. They've even refrained from telling the public about the details (turmoil in the ranks of the MM? Unthinkable.), instead opting to go with him being sent on a secret "special mission" of dire importance.

He desperately wants to get back to the top of Mount Olympus, to where he feels like he belongs. Granted, it's not because he misses the other group members so much.
They're not the kind of colleagues he had envisioned before he joined the team. To the public, they are pure, selfless, virtuous heroes. But behind closed doors, there's ugly fights, bitter rivalry, drugs, manipulation and abuse.
Maybe that's the kind of person you need to be to make it in this game.
He still naively thinks that he can change things there bit by bit or at the very least stay true to his morals.
He's scared of becoming like them, callous, cold, ruthless, but maintaining a perfect PG, family friendly facade, as soon as the news cameras are on their faces.
He's not like that... or is he?
No matter what the answer is, he can't bear the thought of being out of the team forever.
Needless to say, he's in for a rude awakening when he finds out about the true nature of his protegés.
They're quite the handful and it seems like Matt is in way over his head.
But nothing an entitled call to his manager can't fix, right? Wrong.
Seems like he's on his own for this one. One thing's for sure, it's not going to be an easy task.

background
Matt was orphaned at only three years old due to tragic circumstances, their exact nature remain unknown to him.
After an evaluation testing mental and physical fitness, he was selected by the government to undergo their Stellar Program.
Thankfully, the clinical portion was short and pleasant and his powers developed without complications.
From then on, he lived in a home for the genetically enhanced. There, he learned all of the important skills needed to become a superhero and was taken care of fairly well.
He was fed, clothed and warm, got to be with other children his age, play a lot and learn from the best tutors in the country. He had a room to himself with all the toys a boy could desire and a big garden to run around in. But still, it wasn't a normal childhood by any means.
He never had parents as far as he could remember, only caretakers who did their best but went home to their own children at the end of their shift.
He didn't hate it there per se, it definitely had its upsides. The biggest probably being that he gets to live every kid's dream and be a successful superhero now.
But as they got older, the children were increasingly pitted against each other to develop their powers more and more and outperform the others in order to land a place in the advanced programs.
And to this day, he constantly feels like something about him is off, like something fundamental is missing from deep inside of him, something valuable that's been replaced by a black hole, but he can never quite put his finger on what it is.
black hole
noun [ C ]
UK /ˌblæk ˈhəʊl/ US /ˌblæk ˈhoʊl/
PHYSICS • specialized
a region in space where gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape.

an imaginary place in which things are lost.

With this kind of background, it's crystal clear where some of his less desirable qualities stem from. For isntance his intense need for attention and validation, his clinging on to a purpose and his competitiveness, among others.

Sometimes, when he lies awake at night, he starts to think about his past, but he pushes those thoughts far, far away as soon as they come rearing their ugly heads.

Matt did well on all his exams and graduated from the Academy with good certifications. He became a sidekick to a C-class hero at 18 and he started working his own neighborhood at 22, then branched out to a slightly bigger area. Typical trajectory. But he got immensely lucky and hit it big when he stopped a major building from collapsing thanks to his powers, saving hundreds, and was scouted for the Junior Minute League. (Alternatively called Minute Kids or Mini Men. He absolutely hated that.) After serving his due time there, he started rising up through the ranks. Now he is living a superhero's dream, being a fixed member of the main eight Minute Men heroes.
The Minute Men? They're only the greatest superhero group in the U.S. and thereby, in the entire world.

Orbit's public polls are exceptional and he truly loves his job. Giving inspirational speeches, beeing seen volunteering in a soup kitchen / children's hospital / retirement home or hosting a charity event at least bi-monthly are all part of the job description. Unlike many of his coworkers, he does get enjoyment out of that. There's something about the way a kid's face lights up when he meets his hero in the flesh. But what Matt loves most is the good feeling he gets after having saved the day once again. That good feeling is partly the rush of grandeur, owed to the adrenaline from getting to fight evil and the glory of being adored by everybody. It's like being a rockstar on steroids, what's not to love about it?
He has his own merch, comics, action figures. A bestselling autobiography. Go on TikTok and scroll for a while and there he is saving that kitty from a tree. He's been in the latest Minute Men Cinematic Universe ensemble movie and even had his very own MMCU feature film come out the previous year. Granted, he's a better superhero than actor, but audiences don't go to see these movies for Oscar-level performances, but to satisfy a need for gratuitous violence and epic, but cliché'd stories, basically to see more of their idols in action.
He would never admit this to himself, but despite what he promised to himself when he was younger, the fame did kind of get to his head and leading this life has turned him into a little bit of a self centered prick with a superiority complex.
Of course, having based his entire identity and self-worth around his position in the Minute Men has just made his fall from grace hurt all the more.
Superpowers
- - -
He can manipulate gravity and create gravitational force fields.
He is able to lessen the gravitational force on objects. Thus, he has the ability to move and pick up even heavy objects with relative ease and make lighter objects and even people float.
He can immobilize an opponent by keeping them pinned down by a g-force of up to 3gs (anything above that would be deadly). Or make them float up, throw them through the air, slam them against a wall... there's definitely some variety.
In addition to that, he can repel and attract objects by inducing a gravitational center around himself.
Also, he is able to decrease gravitational pull on himself, thereby levitating.
But about 7 feet off the ground at the most is as high as he'll get. This is mainly useful for leaping great distances, surmounting walls and barriers, dodging attacks etc.
As an added plus, he can walk on walls and ceilings by altering gravity.
Abilities & Paraphernalia
- - -

ABILITIES:
He's been trained in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts.
He can play the guitar fairly well and he's a pretty good cook.

PARAPHERNALIA:
His super suit, perfectly engineered to go with his powers and look amazing at the same time.
Weaknesses
- - -
- His powers require a certain degree of focus, will power and strain, which means after long, drawn-out fights he starts becoming weaker and weaker as time progresses and when it's done, he often crashes for some time.

- The scope in which he can manipulate gravity is limited to his immediate surroundings.

- Wonder why not many superheroes grow old? Sure there's an occupational hazard, but mostly, humans aren't meant to go 200 mph or shoot lasers out of their eyes. Or hands. Or other body parts.
Thus, Matt feels that his body's not quite the same as when he was younger.
Back then, he could take a lot more. Now, he can feel the wear and tear that he's put his body through. His joints and muscles ache after a fight, his entire body hurts, right down to his bones. He gets terrible migraines and fevers, almost like his body overheats like a machine. Sometimes, usually after a lot of exertion, when he is resting, he "glitches" out, his gravity shifting without him having control over it. Suddenly he feels intense pressure on himself like an anvil pressing down on him and he's almost crushed by it. Or he floats up to the ceiling in his sleep and only wakes up when he comes crashing back down. It's scary and painful and it happens more often now. It's begun to happen randomly, when he's feeling well and rested, and it's occuring at closer intervals. And sure, that sucks major ass, but what's even worse is that recently, these "glitches" have stopped being limited to himself and he's started unwittingly messing with his surroundings with little to no control over it. So far, it's only lasted a couple of second at the longest, but it ain't getting better. He doesn't want anyone to find out about this and is willing to do anything to hide it.
He has witnessed some of the older heroes' slow decline and he's scared of the same thing happening to him. But he tries not to worry too much, he's still got time after all.

PROFILE
The leader of the federal-funded Superhero team, the Minute Men, the Patriot is widely considered as the world's strongest Superhuman. The man born Patrick Smith is one of the first heroes to be introduced to the public in the late 90's. Back then, he was a teenage crimefighter under the moniker "Golden Boy" and, within a short time, rose to prominence despite criticisms of the government's experimentation on an underage individual. With the formation of the Minute Men in the mid-aughts, Golden Boy was primed to lead the team after a change to his public persona, becoming none other than the Superhero we know today as Patriot. His popularity skyrocketed as a result and, to this day, Patriot remains America's favorite Superhero and a huge star internationally as well. Although he appears as a friendly, compassionate icon of moral goodness to the public, his colleagues within the Minute Men know him to be something entirely different: a shrewd and strict authoritarian figure who rules the team with an iron fist. He disregards most other heroes as nothing more than incompetent, reckless buffoons, especially those abroad. He is very much beholden to laws and procedure to a fault, even allowing the loss of innocent lives if his orders demand it; he expects his team to do the same or face humiliation and persecution within the organization.
