Fantasy Death Inc.

Matthias leaned up against the handrail on the stairs. As usual it was a pleasant day in Limbo, the millions of spirits that called this place home were out in spades, working, playing, one could almost call it living. Death wasn't so bad if you just made it a new life. He looked over at Nate. He was a good enough partner, a little by the book for his liking but very reliable. He supposed he should try to hang out with him a little more when they were off duty. It could be like one of those old cop movies they had on Deathflix. The officers in those movies were usually friendly with each other and with the people. They had this great motto "To Protect and Serve". Whenever he saw that a niggling thought came to mind, like a loose thread he couldn't get rid off. He had this odd feeling that his own relationship with the law had been different when he was alive. Matthias thought hard but only gave himself a headache, like every other time. He'd tried hundreds if not thousands of times to recall his past, but all attempts to remember it ended in failure. All the records of his reaping and death were missing too. Apparently he'd just appeared in a chair in the recruiting office one day.

He snapped out of his daydream when Alora appeared at his elbow with a huge bowl of ice-cream in all colors and flavors. Matthias was just about to take a bite of the delicious sampling Alora had brought him when an earsplitting shout came from the inside of the building. With a heavy sigh he put down the spoon and turned to face his fellow trainer. "Letty... Hi. Well you see it's really simple. We'd just gotten through self-healing and phasing practice, and I figured the recruits could use a little bite to eat." As usual he rambled to try and get out of trouble. "So I thought why not teach them a little recon as well, and let them explore the city a little bit? I made it a little exercise, and whichever recruit brought back the best ice cream would win. I think this is what they call tangential learning right?" Of course in reality he had just wanted to give everyone a break, himself included. Now he'd be reprimanded for wasting time.

Letty stared at Matthias coldly as she moved closer to him. Ice cream, of all things for her to see... What type of lame excuse could he pull this time? Just hearing his lame and pointless excuse to waste time made her blood boil twice as hot. What appalled her most was the fact that he put in no effort into his excuse, and no one brought her ice cream. Letty sucked in a deep breath, ready to tell Matthias off for third time this week, until a soft voice caught her off guard. She looked over at the small Alora, spying the ice cream she was offering to her.
Letty walked over to Alora, staring down at her and the delicate dairy treat. She knelt down, staring eye to eye with the young trainee. Letty's disturbingly calm face soon turned into a warm, kind smile and her stormy orangey eyes seemed to turn into a beautiful summer sunset.
"I would love some, deary." She answered, ruffling the small child's hair. She then turned at glared back at Matthias. "And don't think you're getting off so easy just because of my love of frozen desserts. The higher officials are already angry enough with your shenanigans." She replied bitterly.

Luciano.jpg
Luciano Valentine {Late Hunter of Beasts}
Luciano attentively focused on how this mistress presented herself, definitely a well-spoken woman with experience behind her although judging from how there’s no sheathe or any kind of material strapped to her back to provide protection against natural rusting or furthermore, he couldn’t help but that blade had magical tendencies behind it, especially being in that sort of condition. Ashlynn continued to explain further in depth about the choreography of her swings and how she was able to predict a foe’s movements and use opportunities to disarm the creature she’s facing off against in order to take control of the conflict, not bad. Luciano took a moment to politely wave at the friendly employee behind the decorative marble counter after retrieving his cups of ice-cream and the bag of sprinkles he placed within his cargo pocket, sooner or later this ice cream was going to melt so he knew that this conversation of theirs would have to be brief. “Interesting technique, adapting to someone’s movements and using your body’s momentum to disarm them, although sometimes you wont be facing off against such a predictable person, a couple of monsters for example that swing and move wildly. Sometimes you have to create a distance between them as to survive such an encounter.” Luciano knew about wild confrontation almost more than anyone, accepting so many contracts in life it’s easy to learn a lot of things such as the predictability of specific creatures, most of all studying them is more important than having an abnormally sharp blade.

Only the best option when going against a beastly abomination that swings from all directions is to get in its blind-spot or distance yourself. Banshees, Rugarus, and Qareens, all prime examples of dangerous entities that require an immense amount of concentration to slay, underestimation of them would surely lead to death. “Yeah, that’s me. Not sure, but they must’ve found redeeming qualities in everyone. I use to hunt monsters for a living, taking on numerous contracts. I have a wide variety of experience when it comes to the unknown and even this place still puzzles me, i’m sure they know what they’re doing though and Ashlynn huh? Luciano, Luciano Valentine, it’s a pleasure.” Despite his calm and warm-hearted voice his expression was unchanging, almost as if it were frozen in place with an always serious demeanor carved into his very face. Unknowingly this was his norm, he wasn’t very close to his emotions for that matter and is often regarded as lacking them but in rare occasions they do tend to show. “Well, we should probably get back to the group we should probably get a move-on.” Luciano suggested as he made a b-line for the entrance/exit of the Grim Gelato’s parlor, taking a step out before taking a light-jog to where the other trainees were residing as well as his instructors. “I’ve gotten what you’ve asked for, Mint-chocolate and Vanilla. Hell, I even brought sprinkles for extra-measures, no means to rush but when will we be receiving our first real contract?” Luciano had just arrived with a few other students that have already made it back without any time to waste but then again he had taken extra-precautions when it came to finding a very select ice-cream and even getting sprinkles in a separate bag if they wanted it.

Unfortunately, it looked like everyone was distracted by the red haired woman, who scolded Matthias like he was a small child. Hearing Matthias fumble over his lame excuses gave Freya second-hand embarrassment, so she took her frozen yogurt and sat down on the ground to eat herself. Freya didn't feel like putting forth the effort to converse at that point. Alora seemed to garner everyone's attention with little to no effort at all. I get she is a kid and everything, but still... Freya delicately ate her frozen treat as she slowly started to become more and more bitter. Despite her interactions with people thus far, she was realizing she would have to be loud and disrespectful to get anyone to bother speaking to her for more than 5 minutes.

In a distant time, this may have bothered Freya a lot. But at this point in time, Freya merely recognized what was happening, and made the decision to just keep to herself. Freya was so used to friends "ghosting" on her, people she thought she could count on. Everything was always perfectly normal one minute, and then the next minute they act like they don't even know her. Freya decided that instead of risking this happening and putting forth too much effort, she would just close herself off. It was a much safer option. She continued eating her frozen yogurt as she listened to Matthias and the woman named Letty exchange words with each other. She looked up as more and more reapers-in-training began appearing with delicious looking treats in their possession.

Ashlynn sighed, seeing as he was not going to be much help in finding out why this group of seemingly random souls were chosen to become new reapers. After Luciano had left she sighed yet again as she stood up. She stood up and put her sword onto her back. There was a sheath-esc part of the back of her clothes that was for the sword to rest. It was a relief to have something that seemed normal to her in a world that she was not used to. Ashlynn was sure she could start a new life here, but she did not know how.

She followed Luciano back to the beginning only to see Matthias being yelled at. She laughed a little as she saw this to be somewhat funny. Ashlynn then saw Freya eating by herself. She walked over to her with a friendly smile. "Hey... I.. I never really got your name during our 'Orientation.' My name is Ashlynn." She said as she sat beside her. She had her vanilla in her hand as she scooped some out and ate the frozen treat. "Soo... How are you liking this so far? I mean, this place... seems a bit unreal huh?"

Freya was not expecting anyone to approach her and smiled cautiously at Ashlynn as she introduced herself and sat down. "I'm Freya," she responded. "I honestly don't know how I feel yet." Freya shoved another spoonful of frozen yogurt in her mouth. "It is honestly surreal. I feel like my fantasies are starting to become reality. At least, the fantasies I had when I was alive." Freya smile at the far off memory. "What about you, Ashlynn? Do you like it here so far? How have you adjusted?" Although Freya tried to close herself off, she found herself pouring conversation out of her mouth like an endless stream. She couldn't help it, she just loved people, regardless of how many times she got hurt.

Ashlynn laughed a bit. "Well, it is a lot different than the gang life I had back when I was alive." She said as she ate a bit more. "But to be honest, it is sort of a relief to know there was something else after life. A bit relaxing if I can even say that." She said as she ate a bit more. "Of course, we have to work... but hey, we are a team. I am sure we are gonna be on a lot of missions together Freya." She said as she smiled. "Hopefully we get to be partners."

???

The air around Mathias, Letty and Nate began to become cold. Very cold, enough to match that of the temperature of a freezer. A figure approached them, very slowly. However, his face, and most of his features were covered by a veil of snow that seemed to circulate the figure. The figure extended his palm, and then flicked his fingers. A spark of blidning flame erupted underneath Alora's ice-cream that she was sharing with Mathias and the others, and it flew into the sky, before being caught by the chilly wind that circulated the figure. The ice-cream landed in the figures left palm. He grabbed one of the cones, and using the chilly wind, froze it dead-solid, using it as some sort of spoon to eat the ice cream. The figure turned his back to everyone, before heading back to where he came from.
Thanks for the ice-cream. You kids can all count on Mathias on hogging all the fun for himself.
He said, while pointing -the finger- at Mathias, and possibly everyone else.
Oh, and Letty, stop scolding Mathias. He already gets sexually harrassed by the creepy-ass white haired person. Katarina, was it?
The figure appeared to have pronounced Katerina's name wrong. As a matter of fact, he probably mistook her name for that of another character from a FUCKING VIDEO GAME. He soon disappeared back into his office, along with the massive bowl of ice-cream...

Kaine Windfallow Heir of The Elder Lich (who died a miserable death not even worthy of a hobo.)

Kaine had finished most of his fanta before he had found a suitable ice-cream parlour. He stepped inside, and looked at all the flavours. He didn't even know what half of them were. Like, what the fuck was 'Rainbow'? Was it ice-cream on coccaine or something? He wished Mountain Dew flavoured ice-cream was a thing... He looked the shop-keeper dead in the eye. And said:
Give me cookies and cream. With oreos. TONS OF OREAS, STACKED UP LIKE A TOWER.
What he got was definitely not what he had expected though. The shopkeeper, quite literally gave him one sccop of cookies and cream, with oreos stacked on the ice-cream, ALL THE WAY TO THE FUCKING ROOFTOP...
What the living fuck?

Was all that Kaine muttered as he walked out of the store, barely manging to get the massive stack of oreos out the door. Needless to say, he felt like a total moron as he walked back to where he was meant to give the teachers ice-cream...

Alora Smile grew even brighter as the reaper accepted the ice cream she offered. Though, it didn't last long as the large bowl of ice cream and cones was removed from her grasp and taken away by some sort of magical force. Alora looked toward the strange figure with a shocked face. "Hey!" She tried to object. "That's..." She couldn't even finish what she was saying before the strange figure disappeared with her frozen treat. "...not yours...." The last of the words barely trailed out of her mouth as she sat on the ground beginning to sadly pout. Arms wrapped tightly around her bunny she held it close feeling the tears form in the corners of her eyes. Alora's started to get the hiccups again then hid her face in the back of her stuffed rabbit as she began to sob softly, the tears slowly soaking into the bunny.

As Ashlynn mentioned being partners and going on missions together, Freya's heart jumped in her chest at the thought of having a close friendship with someone. I can't let my guard down though. It always happens when I am most vulnerable...Freya turned her whole body to face Ashlynn so that she knew that she had all of Freya's attention. "You were in a real life gang??" Wonder and disbelief filled Freya's eyes. "I would love to know more about you, Ashlynn. I feel as though I have been quite...sheltered." Freya's attention was grasped by something happening off to the side. She looked on as a large ice cream bowl magically flew through the air and landed in the hands of an icy-looking silhouette. Not long following that, the sounds of muffled sobs coming from Alora filled the air. Freya immediately felt awkward. "Umm...."

Ashlynn chuckled a little. "Yea... father led the Kazuki gang so I had no choice but to grow around the gang life." She said as she sighed. "Of course... it isn't what I wanted to do, but god damn I was good at it." She said with a small laugh. "Died at the pier while un-loading a shipment of our goods. Enemy gang members came and both sides traded lives." She said with a sigh. To be truthful, Ashlynn missed the gang life. It was the only one she knew. she was pulled out of her semi-depressed trance with Alora crying. "One second Freya." She said as she stood up and walked over to Alora.

She pulled out a soft serve Ice-cream from a small bag she had had at her waist. "Hey, I was going to eat this, but it seems I got more than I needed. do you want it?" she asked with a smile as she produced a vanilla soft serve with some chocolate syrup and rainbow sprinkles. "I think we should try to make our first impressions here better than in our old lives. We were given a second chance for a reason, we just have to find out why." She said with a smile to both Freya and Alora. "Hey, Alora's your name, right?" she asked with a smile. "Why don't you sit over here with Freya and I?" She asked with a small chuckle. "Seems you could use some company."
