[Custom] Charms, Artifacts, Manses... whatever... [Walking with the Darkness]

Essence grenade huh :)

I need a few things cleared:

- Area of Effect

- effect of motes / rating on damage

yeppers

someone had to do it

Basically I took the rules for the explosion straight from pg 215 of the abby book where it talks about the different sorts of essence storage crystals, and modified them slightly for use as a thrown weapon....

Area of effect is based on motes in crystal, a 3m or level one bomb has a radius of 3 yards though with diminishing effects the further from the blast one gets,

Within 1yard, the attack roll has 3 auto successes.

Outside of 1 yard radius but still within 2 yards, there are 2 auto successes.

In the last yard of the blast radius, there is only 1 auto success added to the attack roll.

Damage is base 5 dice for all sizes but the auto successes on the attack roll more than make up for it.

As a second example here is a level 3 explosion.

Within 1 yard, the attack roll has 15 auto successes.

At 10-11 yard radius, there are 6 auto successes.

In the last yard of the blast radius, there is only 1 auto success added to the attack roll.

While this may seem powerful, keep in mind that this is a level 3 artifact that is one shot.

Oh yeah, the damage is double to structures as per the book....

I am trying to remember where I saw it but I am pretty sure Essence Grenades, albeit possibly under a different name, already exist.

Scroll of Fallen Races does indeed still have them, Essence Pulse Grenades mountain folk p26-27. They're reusable and everything. Scroll of Kings has firedust and alchemical type grenades also.

True, and I like those reusable gernades.

As far as a level 2 artifact goes, I think they are nicer than my own level 2. Though, I think the increasing damage (due to number of automatic successes) and increasing radius keep level 3 and up as useful items, as well the ease of construction (at least for me) of level 1s keeps them as feasible weapons....Provided they are approved....

Also... why bother building essence grenades when you can shape plant grenades ?! ^^

true, and I will eventually, I'm going to try and go slow with the Alter Plants power.....I eventually of course intend to create floral nightmares that may chakra orchids, Tendriculi(DnD reference), and slaver sunflowers(ringworld reference) seem like dandelions.

Besides, I try not to rely too heavily on constant use of a power that requires willpower....

Hmm.....Though, I can already see a tree-ent style warstrider in my future....

Oh yeah, it's kind of a custom thing, kind of a rules thing, since paths don't require combos, could I use Shape the earth and empower crystal with empower cultivation and empower plants to make level one plant artifacts that require orichalcum or white jade...? Or crystal artifacts that require green jade...?

Trying to come up with a custom hearthstone for Rasheel to acquire. Rough description here.

Gem of Tempered Flesh - Earth 2
Despite the great resilience and hardiness of the Chosen in Creation, even the toughest individual can resist the forces arrayed against them for so long. An arrow finding its way through a chink in armor, the deflected blade grazing across the brow, the sheer impact of a crushing blow rattling one's body.

The Gem of Tempered Flesh resembles a prism of smokey quartz, with metallic highlights along the edges. When set in an attuned artifact, the gem grants the bearer Hardness equal to half their soak not based on armor (rounding up). This does not combine with other charms that grant similar, or artifact armor with a Hardness rating. In these cases, only whichever effect grants the greater level of protection is used.
Don't have a thread to put IC requests for this chapter/act yet, but might as well see how this is received as being allowed or not in general.

So you mean Hardness from the gem = half natural soak round up.

This would be a level 2 gem IMHO. Okay I get it, for lunars, it's uber since they can increase their natural soak, but for non lunars, it kinda sucks (I mean take a solar with 4stam, his hardness is set at 2B... no one has a raw damage of 2B  )

I don't believe the soak provided by Iron Skin Concentration is explicitly described as "soak from armor." I'd lean more towards it being natural myself. And while Iron Kettle Body can't be used with armor, there's nothing that says it actually counts as armor. While of course my interpretation of this technically means little in this game (unless you [cyl] share it), I figured that voicing my opinion wasn't necessarily bad either :P .

I can also see possible custom Charms out there that would increase a Solar's natural soak (allowing you to soak Lethal with your full Stamina is an easy one, adding [Essence] to your Stamina for calculating natural soak values is another, even natural Hardness like this Hearthstone).

Just thought I would bring this up once more as it seems it was missed the first go around....

As long as you can make the artifact and have the ressources available... why not.

About the gem: I was just proportionating the effects of the gem for any other kind of exalt than lunar... and it's rather crappy unless you use a charm boosting natural soak, which lunar can with various options, while other exalts are largely limited.

But yeah, soak from charms (unless forming a mystical armor) shall add to the natural soak.

So I'll knock it down to level 2. Should I leave it as Earth, or change it to Lunar since it's powers favor their charms?

Consuming Void Stance

Cost : 1+ mote

Minimums : Melee 4, Essence 2

Type : Reflexive (Step 1 or 2)

Keywords : Combo-Ok

Duration : Instant

Prerequisites : Any Melee Excellency

The abyssal moves, his anima consuming the weak essence of those he faces. Certain and strong blows emasculated as they go awry, defenses giving way before the abyssal's forcefulness.

The abyssal may spend motes to reduce the die pool of his opponent's attack at a cost of 1 mote (up to a maximum equal to his essence) per die. The abyssal may reduce the DV of his opponents at a cost equal to 2 motes (up to a maximum equal to his essence) per static value reduced.

At essence 4+, the abyssal may spend as many motes as he likes.

***

Relentless Entrophy Strike

Cost : 3 motes, 1 willpower

Minimums : Melee 5, Essence 3

Type : Supplemental

Keywords : Combo-Ok, Mirror, Obvious

Duration : Instant

Prerequisites : Consuming Void Stance

Charging the entrophic essence of the Underworld into her weapon, the abyssal strikes but once. Her opponent may attempt to dodge, only to fall short, parries are simply shattered in the face of the abyssal's essence.

The abyssal's attack is supplemented by the charm, and will always hit. Resolve the attack as normal. If the attack would have missed without this charm, then it hits, calculating its raw damage based on an assumption of 0 attack successes.

Mirror - The solar mirror charm "Divine Warrior Technique" functions identically and has "Infinite (Melee) Mastery" as its prerequisite charm.

***

Obsidian Shrike Technique

Cost : 2 motes or 4 motes

Minimums : Melee 4, Essence 2

Type : Simple (speed 4)

Keywords : Combo-Ok, Mirror (Iron Raptor Technique), Obvious

Duration : Instant

Prerequisites : Blade Summoning Gesture

To advance the cause of the Neverborn, the abyssal learns to let go and accept risks. Throwing her weapon at her opponent, the abyssal strikes at range. Expecting nothing in return, it is only by the grace of the Neverborn and the essence within her does the abyssal's weapon return in a blazing arc.

At higher essence, the exalt may spend more motes and throw arcs of dark entrophic energy from her weapon instead of the weapon itself. This technique is known as the "Black Moon Fang".

Current charm request. :D

Abyssals already have a Charm that does exactly what Consuming Void Stance does with DV (Five Shadow Feint). You probably could just make CVS a permanent add-on to FSF, or perhaps just remove the DV effect and just keep the dice-remover.

EDIT: I just remembered that Five Shadow Feint is Supplemental, so I suppose that makes a permanent add-on an impossibility.

CVS: would have FSF as a prereq.

RES: Oki

OST: oki too

I'm in a generous mood today

Excellent, I already have FSF. I just wanted a -better- version.

Main difference would have been this charm is reflexive. It works as a defense and offense, almost like a reverse excellency. 8)
